upgrade to MT4.0 (beta)

The upside of the video feed going away is I can do the upgrade over the weekend without interrupting anything. So, I did, and I’m sure I’ve got things to fix. Let me figure out the obvious stuff right now, and then I’ll ask later for anything I missed.

So Far: the tags are broken for sure. That’s first on my list. But comments seem to be working okay, so I don’t think there’s much of an interruption of service.

Site Notes: Roster pages, September, MT4

* I’ve updated the CMLL, AAA and IWRG roster. Corrections, suggestions, additions and pointers to missing pictures are always appreciated.

I’m ditching the old title pages that used to go with these rosters – titles are still listed, but the wiki is much better for listing the titles for a promotion (and much more often updated, since it’s not just up to me.)

I added JAPAN and US (and Canada) pages to move all the guys who show up twice and never again off the Other page, so that’ll be primary Mexican indy guys. I’m not sure I’ve actually achieved this, but I like the concept.

* Are people actually using the Roster? Or anything besides the general events page?

* Speaking off: so the reason I’m going thru everything and making links of September dates is actually a solution to another problem…

What are all the CMLL Anniversary Main Events? Figuring out all the TripleManias isn’t hard, because they’re more recent and well documented. CMLL’s posted a list going back to the mid 60s (anniversary, not year) on their site from time to time, but then that’s still 60 years of The Biggest Match Of The Year (TM) that go unlisted.

It occurred to me that those matches are listed in the luchawiki. They’re not collated in a list, but they’re mentioned in a biography or as the date someone lost their mask or a title change. It’s just a matter of pulling it together.

To get a complete list of anniversary matches – which are usually in the last 10 days of September – I need to look thru everything to find events in September. And while I’m looking thru events in September, instead of making some list elsewhere, I might as well take advantage of the wiki and list everything there. So, we’re ending up with pages of Births, Debuts, Deaths, Stips Matches, Other Events, and eventually I’ll work title matches on there as well (I figure I need a new template for that.)

I’m maybe 1/5 the way thru and I’ve got maybe 5 ideas on how better to do this, but I think I’m making some progress. And this is completely insane, that too.

* We’re still a couple weeks away from getting a fix to the luchawiki RSS feed, I think. This one’s not my fault and I don’t have a fix. Then again, you may be better of not reading 500 updates about September 3rd at this point.

* I’ve tried to download the beta of Movable Type 4 a couple of times and their server has been down. Dunno what the deal is, but eventually I’ll get it, and eventually I’ll upgrade the code here. What that means to you is, at some point, this blog will be down for a couple hours, and then it’ll be up but things may not work exactly like they used to.

I believe it’s going to destroy the code I hacked in to do my dual blog article feed, but it’s supposed to integrate stuff over multiple blogs, so maybe there will be a better solution. What I expect is there will be some nice improvements in the stuff I see/use, and things will be broken in new ways with stuff y’all see and use. Hopefully I’m wrong and everything is awesome.

quick note about comments

If you post more than two links in any comment, my junk filter is putting it on hold, and I don’t always remember to check the hold.

99% of the spam bot posts have a three or more links on them, so the filter saves me time. But occasionally, it’ll catch posts like Chui linking to photos of Latin Lover in Merida. I should probably figure out a way to auto approve regular posters, but we don’t have it yet.

luchawiki down for the moment

Luchawiki is down at the moment, but I believe will be up soon. We’re restoring a backup from early Sunday morning. If you added something Sunday, please check back later and see if was saved, or if it’ll have to be re-entered. I’m not quite sure what happened.

Update: It’s back up, but like I thought, most stuff from Sunday appears missing.

Even more of me blabbing

I’m going to be talking lucha on the next Joe Versus The World, and we’re taping it Thursday afternoon. If you still have questions about lucha libre you’re dying to ask, send them to Joe ASAP.

We probably won’t get to everything, because I’m not the only guest on the show…
