01/27: Mexico, GdR

CMLL (FRI) 01/26 Arena Mexico Results [ova]
1) Tigre Blanco, Tigre Metálico b Calígula, Mesala
2) Dr. X, Misterioso II, Shigeo Okumura b Mascara Purpura, Metro, Virus
3) Atlantis, Eclipse, Sangre Azteca DQ Blue Panther, Sagrado, Último Dragón
4) Lizmark Jr., Mascara Ano 2000, Shocker DQ LA Park, Marco Corelone, Último Guerrero
5) Dos Caras Jr., Místico, Rey Bucanero DQ el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Halloween, Terrible

Three straight DQs. At least they were all different DQs
3) Sangre was DQed for yanking off Ultimo Dragon’s mask and going crazy on him.
4) Marco was DQed for excessive violence on Shocker after already beating him
5) Perro was DQed for a foul on Rey

I think the Sangre one is going somewhere, the Marco one was just to establish him as angry man after losing his hair to Shocker, and the Perros one was a usual Perros one. Ovaciones has a story about a CMLL photographer getting in the way of a Mistico dive by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

There’s a brief article from the Antonio Pena tribute, and Ovaciones also has an interview with Sepulturero, who talks up his (non existent) chances of beating Mistico for his mask tonight.

01/12: AAA, Sangre Azteca, Puebla, Mexico

AAA’s updated their news section with a long article about the new stars of 2006. They say they plan to go to Central America, the US, and possibly even Spain in ’07. Nothing about future TV tapings past the next one.

Ovaciones interviewed Sangre Azteca, who hopes to make his welterweight title reign as strong as the ones of Santo and Blue Demon. Good luck on that. He hopes to continue to feuding with La Mascara, Texano Jr., Sagrado, Maximo, Shocker, and Satanico; that’s a lot of people to fight. This is all hype for his semi-main appearance tonight, so it’s kinda funny he doesn’t mention Volador Jr. since he’s facing him tonight – I mean, why stop naming names?

CMLL (MON) 01/15 Arena Puebla Lineup
1) King Jaguar, Fenix vs Mr. Rafaga, Espiritu Maligno
2) the Tiger, Lestat, Asturiano vs Siki Osama, Fuerza Chicana, Furia Chicana
3) Mascara Purpura, Texano Jr., Stuka Jr. vs Loco Max, Maniacop, Nitro
4) Mistico, Negro Casas, Volador Jr., Ultimo Dragon vs Averno, Mephisto, Efesto, Tarzan Boy
5) Ultimo Guerrero vs Shocker

That seems like a loaded up card for Puebla. Is the AAA taping (on Saturday) close enough where they’re competing here?

El Sol De Tulancingo has a story about the local lucha scene – there isn’t one, there’s no promotions, though somehow there are schools. But they’re hoping for better.

Guerreros del Ring Special #5 is on Atlantis.

Here’s tonight’s Arena Mexico card:

CMLL (FRI) 01/12 Arena Mexico
1) Sombra de Plata & Super Nova vs Polvora & Vaquero
2) Fabian el Gitano, Leono, Texano Jr. vs Arkangel, Loco Max, Nitro
3) Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto vs Blue Panther, Negro Casas, Sagrado
4) La Mascara, Shocker, Volador Jr. vs Alex Koslov, Sangre Azteca, Ultimo Guerrero
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Heavy Metal, Rey Bucanero vs Hector Garza, Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mr. Aguila

Fake storylines for this show
– Main Event is a sorta-#1 contenders match for two factions (Perros/tecnicos), since they’ve both been challenging the Guerreros in non-title matches
– Semimain is continuation of La Mascara/Sangre, and it’s the Alex/Sangre brotherhood. Also, they should be plugging Ultimo/Shocker in Puebla.
– I can’t think of anything to make up about the tercera. Negro vs Averno? Tag titles? Efesto? No, it’s just there
– Segunda is match 230 in the best of 433 series between these two sides.
– opener is just to get Super Nova on the show.

There shall be no Guerreros del Ring notes tomorrow morning (maybe Sunday?), but I may get Arena Mexico results up.

01/04: Coliseo, Monterrey, Flash, Dark Angel

cmll.com

CMLL (MON) 01/01 Arena Coliseo Results
1) Sombra de Plata, Super Nova b Carrona, Cobalto
2) Fabian el Gitano, Leono, Tony Rivera b Apocalipsis, Loco Max, Ramstein
3) Nitro, Okumura, Sangre Azteca b Maximo, Texano Jr., Virus
4) Mascara Ano 2000, Terrible, Universo 2000 b Heavy Metal, La Mascara, Volador Jr.
5) Black Warrior, Olimpico, Tarzan Boy b Hijo de Lizmark, Mistico, Shocker

Maximo pulled a prank on Virus, putting his pink on Virus when he wasn’t looking, and Virus got a kick out of it. And then Sangre beat them! Sangre Azteca doesn’t have time for your games, he’s too busy winning. Lots of rudo wins, with Tarzan and Olimpico using the ropes to pin Lizmark Jr. and Shocker in the main.

indy (SUN) 01/07 Arena Coliseo Monterrey Lineup
1) Burrito, Mini Burrito vs Corazon Adictio, Burrico
2) La Kalaka, Nacho Libre, Mixteco vs Black Sabath, Toro Blanco, Hijo de Sr. Tormenta
3) Androide, Rey Sagitario vs Difunto I, Difuno II
4) Monje Negro Jr. vs Estrella Dorada Jr.
5) Humberto Garza Jr., Golden Boy, Casanova vs Potro Jr., Pancho Tequila, Vudu
6) Konnan Big vs Dulce Polly

Suddenly, I get why Dulce Poly was in the main events.

Ovaciones has a interview with CMLL’s Flash today. He’s originally from Oaxaca, and the only wrestler in his family – his mom wasn’t too thrilled with this idea. In addition to the CMLL trainers he’s working with now, he also mentions learning from Charrito de Oro, Colt, and Skayde. He’s not wrestling enough right now to pay the bills, so he’s also working as a dental technician.

In an earlier interview with El Halcon, Flash said he was born in 1987, but here he says he’s 26. I guess time moves fast when you’re the Flash.

Slam interviews Dark Angel about winning the women’s title at the CMLL Bodybuilding contest a couple months back.

GdR #58

12/30/06

Another just okay segunda match, a long-ish main event – long enough that I should’ve gone back and see if I actually timed it correct – but nothing special here. I predict this will get a 0 for 2 on the F4 show.

Appearances in the last six weeks…
1: Mistico
3: Leono and La Mascara
4: Loco Max and Arkangel
5: Fabian el Gitano
7: Sangre Azteca

I know CMLL’s roster isn’t this small, but it sure seems that way of late. It would improve things dramatically if, instead of showing a segunda with the same guys yet again, they’d mix it up and grab the opening match or the tercera.

speaking of TV: I watched the last half of AAA’s main event today (from the pre-GdT show), and reached two conclusions
– the matches still aren’t good (though seeing Cibernetico Hulk Up, complete with three punches, was entertaining in it’s own way)
– oh my gosh, Cibernetico’s super over. Especially with the girls. Like if there was no one booing Cena.

I mean, it may not be something I want to pay for, but it’s something a lot of people will be paying to see – if they can ride this wave in 2007, they’re going to be doing enormous business. The one missing piece is new opposition if Ricky is gone (or even if he isn’t, at some point it’ll be run into the ground). Shocker would’ve been perfect for this spot if he had stuck around, and Scorpio can’t quite replace him there. Konnan was pushed in a position where he’d normally be next, but obviously that’s not happening, and none of the Sect or TNA guys have built a individual presence that’d make it work. La Parka Jr. ain’t turning rudo. Pirata? Abismo? I dunno.

(FWIW, I think the idea of Bucanero jumping doesn’t work anymore. The spot is gone. Wagner or Silver King might be fun, but I don’t think either of them could stomach working rudo stooge to Cibernetico’s tecnico hero.)

If the Toluca crowd is any fair representation, though, Cibernetico’s so over, it may not matter who he’s facing.

GdR #57

Yay, zero day turn arounds. I thought the title match was good but not great – maybe in the *** range? Or, don’t take my word about the match, and watch it yourself.

The women’s match was a near death experience of Amapola. They’re all going to be back to Top Rope Planchas Only after that one.

12/21: Guadalajara, IWRG

hype picture for Mistico in Pachuca

CMLL (SUN) 12/17 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara Results
1) Neon, Virgo b Flama, Imposter
2) Azazel, Exterminador DQ Danger (Guadalajara), Destroyer
3) Golden, Idolo, Metal Blanco, Metatron b Infierno, Magnum, Mr. Trueno, Rey Trueno
4) Angel Blanco Jr. b Fabian el Gitano [WWA MIDDLE]
5) Alex Koslov, Mascara Ano 2000, Universo 2000 b Leon Blanco, Maximo, Negro Casas

In the segunda, Destroyer bopped Exterminador on the head with a pot. I was sure the tercera was originally announced as a mask match, but it’s on Christmas instead. No report from Tuesday as of yet, but there’s a post on box y lucha saying that Rayman got hurt due to the top rope breaking.

IWRG (THU) 12/14 Arena Naucalpan Results
1) Black Stone b Rey de Corazones
2) Black Jaguar, Comando Mega b Greco Jr., Puma King
3) Cyborg, Dr. Karonte, Estallido b Ave Fenix, Freelance, Kid Tiger
4) Hijo del Diablo, Pierroth Jr., Veneno b Astro Boy, Cerebro Negro, Volador Jr.
5) Alex Koslov, Olimpico, Tarzan Boy b Felino, Negro Casas, Negro Navarro

I think every single rudo side won. That never happens.

IWRG’s running a twelve man mask/hair tournament tonight. The losers from two blocks of six will face in a stakes match.
Block A: Negro Casas, Veneno, Xiblava, Olimpico, Dr. Cerebro, Coco Rojo
Block B: Black Warrior, Felino, Cerebro Negro, Sagrado, Mr. Niebla, Coco Verde

I’d guess one of the Cerebros is going down.

Sangre Azteca talked about his title win in La Prensa. I’ve seen La Mascara hyped as having 24 or 25 defenses; we’ve got 11 recorded on the luchawiki, including the 3 previous shots Sangre was talking about. I think it’s more likely La Mascara’s actually defended the title that many times and we don’t know than them making up a defense number. That also means, somewhere, someone’s keeping track of these defenses.

While in Tulancingo for a lucha show yesterday, Super Crazy received a local award for achievement in sports.

Box Y Lucha #2797 has Corelone and Kenzo bald.
