05/23: Coliseo, La Parka Jr., LdP change, NWA tournament, AULL anniversary show, Guadalajara, Monterrey

CMLL (TUE) 05/22 Arena Coliseo [ova]
1) Mini Olimpico & Ultimo Dragoncito b Mini Damian 666 & Mini Halloween
2) Sensei, Stuka Jr., Trueno b Artillero, Jeque, Super Comando
3) Tigre Blanco, Tigre Metalico, Tony Rivera b Dr. X, Loco Max, Nitro
4) Ephesto, Okumura, Sangre Azteca b Fabian el Gitano, Felino, Mictlan
5) Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero, Universo 2000 DQ Dos Caras Jr., Rey Bucanero, Volador Jr.

Main event was all pushing Ultimo Guerrero vs Volador Jr., with Ultimo ripping Volador’s mask and faking a foul for victory. In the segunda, Starman was replaced by Stuka, and Jeque filled in for Ramstein, so the Jeque/Stuka feud was back for at least one night.

In it’s recap of AAA’s 05/20 TV Taping, Ovaciones states La Parka Jr.’s rehab is not going well, he’s not close to being cleared, and will be out longer than expected.

This week’s Leyenda de Plata lineup has changed. As expected, Mistico is out of the tournament itself, moved to the main event in Marco Corelone’s spot (so they can begin teasing Aguila/Mistico for 06/01.) Sagrado takes his place, and since we’re not actually rebooking anything after lineup changes, he’s the heavy favorite to win. Texano replaced La Mascara, who’s out hurt.

Sicodelico Jr. will be part of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship Tournament. (Oddly, there’s a video promo with Nicho challenging for the belt, but not Sicodelcio. Plans change.) It’s a 16 man tournament, and he’s got to face someone named “Roughneck Ryan”, who’s theoretically one of the top 16 contenders in all the world despite being named “Roughneck Ryan”. Also, I’m not sure why two guys from the Texas area are having a first round match in Tennessee, but them there’s the breaks. If Sicodelico Jr. moves on, and gosh I hope he doesn’t lose to Roughneck Ryan, he’ll probably face Claudio Castagnoli and I would totally endorse that match happening. If Sicodelico Jr. wins the NWA Title, I think we’ll have to change the “Did the Gran Alternativa win lead him onto bigger things?” bit on the wiki to a Yes.

The word on the street – people all over the streets are talking about the NWA title tournament, naturally – is Byran Danielson will win end up winning the tournament. (Though now that even I know, it’ll be switched.) In a recent interview with Figure Four, Danielson talked a bit about wanting to do a stretch of wrestling in Mexico to learn how to wrestle lucha – he’s worked one Toryumon Mexico show, but that’s about it. If Bryan Danielson wins the NWA Title, CMLL absolutely must bring him in, because that’d be the awesomest thing possible ever. I’d be cool too if it was Claudio or Sicodelico and I’d understand if Danielson’s NOAH tieup means he’s got to AAA (because that’d could brilliantly insane), but just the concept of Danielson with the NWA Heavyweight Belt taking on, say, Mistico would be so fun, and probably draw. I think the NWA name actually might mean more in Mexico than it does in the US, because the Light Heavyweight title has fared quite a bit better than Heavyweight one over the last 18 years.

4) Damian 666, Mr. Aguila, Terrible b Hijo de Lizmark, Vampiro, Volador Jr.

In the main, Terrible pinned Vampiro once again after a foul. Rayman & Sagrado want a shot at the Cien Caras Junior brothers Occidente Tag titles.

Medio Tiempo has a long interview/biography of Cibernetico on their site. Being an antihero and all, he doesn’t understand how parents would allow their children to be fans of his, though he gets why kids might be fans anyway.

(Notimex) A new lucha libre gym was opened in the Jardin Balbuena section of Mexico City.

Either this week’s GdR review or the opener y’all want to hear about will be posted later tonight – that’s the plan, anyway.

05/02: Coliseo, IWRG, AULL, Monterrey

CMLL (TUE) 05/01 Arena Coliseo [ova]
1) Vaquero & Zayco b Espiritu Maligno & Karissma
2) Bracito de Oro & Electrico b Fire & Mini Mr. Aguilita

4) Ephesto, Texano Jr., Virus b Metro II, Ogun, Sagrado
5) Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca, Ultimo Guerrero b Blue Panther, Shocker, Volador Jr.
6) Atlantis b Alex Koslov [NWA LH]

Alex put up a good fight and won the first fall, but Atlantis took two and three clean. In the semimain, Ultimo beat Shocker with his own move. Sagrado filled in for Maximo, who still out from his injury on Sunday. They might as well change the teased Maximo/Texano feud to Sagrado/Texano feud – that’s what the feud was here. Euforia filled in for a hurt Leono in the third match – I’m not sure where this leaves the hair match for next Monday – and didn’t get along with his teammates. Mr. Agulita replaces Sombrita in the minis match, but I don’t know if anyone was hurt there.

IWRG (THU) 04/19 Arena Naucalpan [Hector Albores @ thegladiatores]
1) Golem & Puma King b Bacteria & Celestial
2) Cyborg & Hermano Muerte II b Trauma I & Trauma II

4) Enfermero Jr., Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Veneno b Esfinge, Hijo de Anibal, Suicida
5) Black Warrior, Hijo de Cien Caras, Misterioso II b Alex Koslov, Mistico, Volador Jr.

Cyborg cheated to help his team win (was eliminated, but held the last remaining Trauma down from the outside while he was being pinned), and it sounds like they’re doing something with him and the Traumas. Veneno got turned on by Enfermero Jr. and Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. after their win, for no clear reason. Warrior snuck in a foul on Mistico.

WWA (FRI) 05/25 Auditorio de Tijuana [rey_misterio_tj @ Satanico’s Mansion]
1) La Mascara, Mistico, Sagrado vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto [WWA TRIOS]

This is Mora’s anniversary show and such, but really – belt #5! Theoretically, the Trio of Terror could win the trios belts, but I see Averno and Mistico in there, so I suspect I know the ending. These belts were last held by the Brazos in ’98, so they’re vacant (and pretty meaningless, but whatever.)

Gililo @ el Martiente has photos from the LLX show in Guadalajara. Meanwhile, amateur @ box y lucha says wrestlers didn’t go on with the next show in LLX, because they weren’t getting paid.

Magazines
Guerreros del Ring #85 has KeMonito as Godzilla.
Box Y Lucha #2816 has Perro beating Mistico

My San Antonio has a review of Dan Madigan’s lucha libre book.

“Mondo Lucha A Go-Go” is a book that is well worth its price in photos alone and one that followers of lucha libre will want for their collection.

04/29: quick Coliseo results, AAA TV notes, Accion, FSE

As it is the big show of the week, CMLL posted an update tonight with Sunday’s major results.
– Halloween, Damian and Mr. Aguila are the Mexican National Trios Champions. Texano cemented his turn to the rudo side here, and Maximo was sent to the hospital. The tecs had held it since October 05 (though it had pretty much been forgotten since last year). This is Halloween and Damian’s second reign as champions; they were stripped as champions last time when Nicho picked another booking over a scheduled defense. Aguila holds both a CMLL and Mexican Trios belt

– Mistico beat Black Warrior to become the 84th NWA World Middleweight Champion. It’s second time holding the belt, having lost it to Warrior 50 weeks ago. Mistico is now a quadruple champion.

Ovaciones has partial results from AAA’s TV taping. Following the Vipers allying with the Sect last week, Zorro unmasked (with a completely new look – but one fitting of a guy who was stuck under a mask for about a year; there’s a photo on the Satanico’s Mansion board, but it’s down at the oment) and forged a partnership between the AAA tecnicos and the Hell Brothers. I think this is just the two forces agreeing to get long, though others have read this as Zorro and Parka joining the Hell Brothers.

Accion

CMLL: Wagner/Msitico/Sagrado vs Perro/Terrible/Damian. Sagrado got more highlights than Mistico, which is odd. We didn’t see what led up to the finish, but the implication is Mistico took another clean pin from Perro.

AAA: Tinieblas/Zorro/Elegido/Octagon vs Vipers from Veracruz. Mesias runs into interfere, but Zorro wins clean anyway. The Sect stares from the entrance.

CMLL on FSE has
04/22 Coliseo: Diana la Cazadora, Marcela, Sahori b Amapola, Diosa Maya, Princesa Sujei
04/22 Coliseo: Damian 666, Halloween, Mr. Aguila b Maximo, Sagrado, Texano Jr.

04/19 (1): Guadalajara

cmll

(More to come as I catch up a bit – splitting it up to make it easier on myself.)

Additonal notes from 04/15, since CMLL’s posted their recap
Opener Result: 1) Estrella de Jalisco & Neon b Fraile de la Muerte & Imposter

After the tercera, Mr. Trueno challenged Metatron to put his Occidente Middleweight Championship on the line next week. Recap says it was agreed on, but it’s not listed on their lineup and those guys are involved in a tag match. Perhaps it’ll be changed later.

CMLL (TUE) 04/17 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara

3) Magnum b Malefico
4) Metal Blanco & Metro II b Nitro & Sangre Azteca

6) Olimpico & Ultimo Guerrero b Rey Bucanero & Shocker

Finish of the hair match was ref bump -> Magica foul/pin -> no count -> Magica checks on ref -> Sagrado foul/pin -> ref counts. Couldn’t just have Sagrado beat Magica clean.

Rudos won main event in straight falls.

Arena Mexico previews
* Ovaciones says Negro Casas may be tired because he just returned from Japan – the NJPW tour ended 23 days ago! Was he hanging out in Mexico for three weeks?
* ESTO – main event, undercard

I’m thinking there’s about a 55% chance of a title change in tonight’s main event. Mistico is the one guy they’d put multiple belts on (and if there’s not a picture of him wearing 2 or 3 belts, I’ll be disappionted.) As that number indicates, I’m quite unsure of how this will go down.

ESTO also has an interview with Terrible. His fall back job if lucha didn’t (doesn’t?) work out? Auto mechanic

(Aca-Novenet)Mistico was supposed to hang out with 50 children, winners of a newspaper contest, before a show in Acapulco yesterday night. However, he couldn’t make the agreed upon time in the afternoon, because he was double booked – he was supposed to be on the beach for photos. So Mistico brought the kids to the show and hung out with them there.

(Radio Formula) Arturo Rivera has given up cigarettes (mostly) and lost weight in preparation to participate in the Phoenix Marathon. If it’s this one, he’s still got 8 months to prep. This is all on a challenge by Televisa Deportes (the network, not the wrestler.)
