06/26: Merida, Puebla, Monterrey

I’m not going to write much more about the Chris Benoit story at this point, but it is pretty much all I’m thinking about.

Black Terry fouled the Tiger in the segunda, causing his team to lose in two falls. Batman may have been hurt in that match.

A couple of CMLL card changes for later in the week. Shocker is out of Gran Alternativa. Valiente will instead team with Dos Caras Jr. Dos will all wrestle on Sunday, as the added match will be a trios rematch from last week – Ultimo, Toscano, Universo vs Rey, Marco, and Dos. CMLL.com says it’s “sin limites”, but I don’t believe it has super libre rules.

In today’s Ovaciones, Blue Demon Jr. says his mask match with Espectro Jr. will take some time in August, and he’s hoping to come back to CMLL after that.

The Tijuana comission will be holding a exam for new wrestlers trying to get their lucha license on Wednesday. They’re expecting about 20 people to tryout, and the test will go three hours.

In Veracruz, a promoter bought the rights to hold AAA’s Guerra de Titanes on June 15. You may have noticed there was no Guerra de Titanes on June 15th. The local promoter dealt with a middle company, not AAA. The local promoter is claiming the middle company lied to them and took their money, and the middle company says they didn’t sign anything. No quotes from AAA at all here.

El Sol de Tampico writes about the 07/04 Auditorio Municipal Tampico show with Wagner vs Atlantis vs Park

dark match wrestlers

I was excited to see Super Comando on FSE this week. Even with now 4 hours of CMLL TV on a weekly basis, the very opening guys (and the minis) rarely make TV appearances. Comando’s spot here was probably pre-planned fill in duty, but it was also the first time he’s wrestled on either b-show.

Super Comando’s made 8 main show appearances since 2003 (the earliest I have CMLL TV indexed at the moment, and help with that would be nice) and also last December’s PPV,. I don’t get to see those shows regularly, and I was kinda surprised to see how much he has been on TV when I looked it up.

It got me to thinking, if the TV universe has been expanded so Super Comando is on TV every other month, than who’s taking his place as a guy who’s on a lot of DF cards but never making it to air? Thankfully, I have a large database of CMLL results for reasons like this.

SINCE 2003-01-01, only including CMLL shows at Arena Coliseo and Arena Mexico
TV appearances include main show, PPVs and both GdR shows, but not the old LA show*

People with 0 TV appearances, at least 15 matches.

19: Mano Negra Jr. – gone from promotion
23: Halcon Negro – ?
24: Meteorix – ?
27: Alacrán De Durango – ?
28: Mini Fantasy – Mini
29: Último Vampiro – regimmicked?
30: Sicodélico Jr. – gone from promtoion
38: Ringo Mendoza – off TV
39: Bam Bam – mini
41: Zetta – ?
45: Explosivo – ?
48: Reyes Veloz – ?
59: Guerrero del Futuro – off TV
77: Sombrita – mini
83: Bracito de Oro – mini
87: Pequeño Violencia – mini, tv match if I go back a little farther
111: Rayo Tapatío I
113: Rayo Tapatío II

I’m sure both Rayo Tapatios have appeared if I go back far enough, but this is a long dry spell.

Most matches with least TV appearances

2: Polvora (132)

12.7%: Apocalipsis (21 of 166)
12.8%: Valiente (12 of 94) – this number looks to be improving rapidly
14.7%: Neutron/Metro II (19 of 129)

93.6%: Marco Corelone (44 of 47)

88.5%: Kenzo Suzuki (23 of 26)
83.4%: Hector Garza (96 of 115)

(Groon is 7 of 8. Kid Tiger is 3 of 4!)

Most TV appearances
184: Ultimo Guerrero (301 matches)
165: Atlantis (289 matches)
164: Rey Bucanero (267 matches)
143: Mistico (222 matches)
141: Dr. Wagner Jr. (241 matches)

141: Negro Casas (281 matches)
132: Perro Aguayo Jr. (149 matches)
129: Universo 2000 (229 matches)
129: Tozcano (229 matches)
129: Averno (243 matches)

* – I don’t know why I don’t have this show in the database, but I should fix it. Weeks were there’s no TV records skew things. Stellar moments are not counted. Matches which air twice (Best Of) are counted twice. Naturally, numbers are as accurate as I can make them, but surely not 100%.

06/13: Monterrey, Merida, Monclova

No Coliseo results on CMLL.com or Ovaciones (which has stopped covering Colisoe shows lately.)

5) Mistico vs Averno [NWA MIDDLE]

Zocalo has a riveting photo of a man holding up a unreadable piece of paper. Anyway, there’s three paragraphs of explanation of why Lizmark Jr. was physically unable to wrestle at the Monclova show over the weekend. I was unaware people cared, but we do get details about his injury (right elbow, won’t be cleared till June 21st at the soonest which makes the since reversed booking for him on Friday awful odd.) After that, the last paragraph mentions Black Warrior no-showed the card and no one, not CMLL or the local promoter, knows where he was, as if that’s just a minor substory. Goofy.

(Ecos de la Costa) The Colima Secretary of Youth sponsored a local lucha show, looking to promote lucha libre in the development of young people. Also goofy!

(El Sol de Tijuana) The Tijuana interschool Olympic games of will have closing ceremonies on Friday, and there will be lucha libre matches for the Kids. Santo, Latin, Tiniebla and Alushe are listed as working the show.

Next news update won’t be till Thursday evening, though there should be a few recaps going up between now and then.

04/29: quick Coliseo results, AAA TV notes, Accion, FSE

As it is the big show of the week, CMLL posted an update tonight with Sunday’s major results.
– Halloween, Damian and Mr. Aguila are the Mexican National Trios Champions. Texano cemented his turn to the rudo side here, and Maximo was sent to the hospital. The tecs had held it since October 05 (though it had pretty much been forgotten since last year). This is Halloween and Damian’s second reign as champions; they were stripped as champions last time when Nicho picked another booking over a scheduled defense. Aguila holds both a CMLL and Mexican Trios belt

– Mistico beat Black Warrior to become the 84th NWA World Middleweight Champion. It’s second time holding the belt, having lost it to Warrior 50 weeks ago. Mistico is now a quadruple champion.

Ovaciones has partial results from AAA’s TV taping. Following the Vipers allying with the Sect last week, Zorro unmasked (with a completely new look – but one fitting of a guy who was stuck under a mask for about a year; there’s a photo on the Satanico’s Mansion board, but it’s down at the oment) and forged a partnership between the AAA tecnicos and the Hell Brothers. I think this is just the two forces agreeing to get long, though others have read this as Zorro and Parka joining the Hell Brothers.

Accion

CMLL: Wagner/Msitico/Sagrado vs Perro/Terrible/Damian. Sagrado got more highlights than Mistico, which is odd. We didn’t see what led up to the finish, but the implication is Mistico took another clean pin from Perro.

AAA: Tinieblas/Zorro/Elegido/Octagon vs Vipers from Veracruz. Mesias runs into interfere, but Zorro wins clean anyway. The Sect stares from the entrance.

CMLL on FSE has
04/22 Coliseo: Diana la Cazadora, Marcela, Sahori b Amapola, Diosa Maya, Princesa Sujei
04/22 Coliseo: Damian 666, Halloween, Mr. Aguila b Maximo, Sagrado, Texano Jr.

04/23: Mistico moves one step closer to holding every belt in the world, Sewage Man news

CMLL (SUN) 04/22 Arena Coliseo [ovaciones]
1) Polvora & Vaquero b Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II
2) Brillante, Tiger Metalico, Tigre Blanco b Apocalipsis, Dr. X, Hooligan
3) Diana la Cazadora, Marcela, Sahori b Amapola, Diosa Maya, Princesa Sujei
4) Damian 666, Halloween, Mr. Aguila b Maximo, Sagrado, Texano Jr.
5) Lizmark Jr., Mistico, Rey Bucanero b Atlantis, Black Warrior, Eclipse

Mistico pulled the ol’ “mask underneath my mask” trick on Black Warrior, so Mistico didn’t drop to cover his face and instead beat Warrior for the win. Mistico wants a shot at Warrior’s NWA Middleweight Championship, and that will indeed be the main event of next week’s Kids Day show. Perros will also be getting a title shot (two straight non-title wins over the champs), so the new card looks something like this:

CMLL (SUN) 04/29 Arena Mexico
1) Sombra de Plata & Super Nova vs Apocalipsis & Ramstein
2) Mini Olimpico, Shockercito, Tsuki vs Mini Damian 666, Mini Halloween, Mini Mr. Aguila
3) Dos Caras Jr., Heavy Metal, Mascara Sagrada vs Mascara 2000, Sangre Azteca, Universo 2000
4) Damian 666, Halloween, Mr. Aguila vs Maximo, Sagrado, Texano Jr. [MEX TRIOS]
5) Alex Koslov, Dr. Wagner Jr., Marco Corelone vs Atlantis, Olimpico, Ultimo Guerrero
6) Mistico vs Black Warrior [NWA MIDDLE]

Mistico’s going to be a four belt champion come Sunday, ain’t he? The odds are heavily stacked in his favor – they can’t have Mistico lose on Kids Day two years in a row, without running a major angle. He’d be champ of four different divisions – Welter, Super Welter (IWRG), Middle, Tag – so I don’t think they’re going to make my dreams come true and unify some of these belts (and knock ’em of existence).

Why not put every belt on Mistico? I’m all for it. The rudos will always be able to punk him out before matches, because how can you walk when carrying all those titles?

I was figuring no title change on this Mexican Trios program before we knew Mistico was in the main event. Since they can send the fans home happy with that, I’m leaning towards the Perros picking up the belts here (making Aguila a double trios champ.)

Magazines
Box Y Lucha 2815 wonders if Mistico will appear without his mask in his upcoming soap opera. (I’m gonna say NO)
Super Luchas #209 highlights the Hell Brothers and the newest Nuevos Infernales.

In San Diego, EarthFair 2007 festivites included lucha libre matches, including a match between Sewage Man and Agua Limpia. I don’t like the rudos chances on Kids Day, I don’t like Sewage Man’s chances on Earth Day.

IWRG’s site is still down.
