Carrona and Cholo won! EDIT: CMLL.com says no. SIGH.
Misitca on Averno, Marco plancha on Mephisto for the main event win. Poder Mexica keeps on winning here. Euforia punted Maximo for the DQ.
CMLL announced last night that Arena Coliseo Guadalajara will have an 11 women’s cage match, much like the recent Minis Hora Cero. The participants here are Dark Angel, Marcela, Lady Apache, Princesa Blanca, Goddess, Medussa, La Nazi, Sahori, Hiroka and Mima Shimoda. No date announced, but it’s clearly the next fan appreciation show (02/01?) After you skip the first 4, everyone stands a decent shot. This probably will be the first women’s match to headline a show (they’ve got set up the cage), but still not yet in Mexico City.
CMLL (TUE) 01/20 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [MT]
7) Héctor Garza, Toscano, Volador Jr. DQ Felino, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero
Ultimo tossed Hector behind him and fouled him on the way down. Recap thinks UG could’ve won it clean.
Today’s Ovaciones has an interview with Poder Mexica, who want to win some belts. Warrior is looking at the CMLL Trios titles, Sangre is looking to move to middleweight and wants Dragon Rojo to take on the welterweights. In that line of thinking, Dragon Rojo says he’s done with Mictlan and wants Sombra next.
Ovaciones also mentioned that the 01/31 AAA taping in Mexico State will have Ozz vs Chessman on the card.
NWA MEXICO (WED) 02/04 Xalapa [Arena Xalapa]
1) Pitufo vs Totem
2) Full Contac, Samuray, Tigre Cosmico vs Crazy Man, Eslabon, GMC
3) Black Spider & Pendulo vs Caballero de la Noche & Fantastik
4) Blue Demon Jr. & Huracan Ramriez Jr. vs El Dandy & Scorpio Jr.
No arena mentioned. It might be Arena Xalapa.
The promoter of the indy shows at Arena Neza teased in Reforma that the 01/30 show with Demon/Santo vs Perro/Wagner could set up a Santo/Perro mask/hair match on 02/13. Well, everything is possible. The bigger story is the schedule here is a big indy show every two weeks.
CMLL (FRI) 01/16 Arena Mexico[Ovaciones, ESTO] 1) Metálico & Sombra de Plata b Camorra & Zayco
2) Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei b Dark Angel, Marcela, Sahori
3) Virus b Máscara Púrpura [lightning]
4) Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Villano V b Blue Panther, Shocker, Toscano
5) Héctor Garza, Mark Corleone, Místico b Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero
6) La Sombra & Volador Jr. b Averno & Mephisto [CMLL TAG]
I think it’s too soon, still, but it’s also pretty cool. Ovaciones times the match at 40 minutes (so expect no more than 25), with the first two falls going 5 minutes. Rudos stook the first, which ESTO says was very techinical and booed by the crowd. The tecnicos won the second – except Sombra hurt his arm on a tornillo and Volador had to go it alone to finish off both rudos. Sombra was taken to the back by medical personal, and Volador continued going it alone for “twenty minutes” of the final fall. Volador managed to defeat Averno, but Mephisto crushed him with two powerbombs. Mephisto wanted the belts, but the referees pointed out Sombra had just returned, so the match must go on. They battled for a few minutes longer, and Sombra reversed a cruceta into a pin for the win.
Volador and Sombra are the 29th champions, each winning this title for the first time. This is the first time Volador has won a World title. At age 19, Sombra is a triple crown champion, holding a singles title (NWA Welterweight), a tag title, and a trios title (Mexican National with Sagrado and Volador.) This is the second straight title reign for Averno & Mephisto which has ended without a successful defense.
This obviously puts even more interest in Monday’s title match in Arena Puebla between Sombra and Mephisto – will their be a title swap or will Sombra hold on to all three belts?
The big news in the semifinal is Mistico won a finishing hold that was NOT La Mistica. A new move! Everyone gets to shut up now. Atlantis and Mistico ripped each other’s masks.
Villano V got Panther to submit to win their match.
In Barranquilla, Colombia, El Hijo del Santo does the usual career talk, and also compares himself to Sammy Davis Jr.
No CMLL lineups. Been waiting all morning but again they’re delayed.
NWA MEXICO (SAT) 01/31 Restaurant el Rancho, Tepotzotlan [SuperLuchas]
1) Eragon vs Trauma I
2) Extrano vs Alma Infernal
3) Angus vs Skayde Jr.
4) Pendulo vs Black Spider
5) Último Vampiro vs Mr. México
6) Blue Demon Jr. & el Hijo Del Anibal vs El Dandy & Septiembre Negro
Yes, it still exists. Been a bit quite for a while. They’re saving their money here by running a restaurant and a super cheap undercard. The main event is going to draw whatever they’re going to draw anyway. This is supposed to be the first show as part of a tour. SuperLuchas mentions Demon is headed to Japan from 03/17 to 03/23.
CMLL (FRI) 10/31 Arena Mexico [superluchas, ovaciones, ESTO]
1) Ángel Azteca Jr. & Metálico b Puma King & Tiger Kid
2) Mascarita Dorada, Nino de Acero, Tzuki b Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
3) Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto b Dragon Rojo Jr., La Sombra, Misterioso II
4) Black Warrior, Blue Panther, Último Guerrero b Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V
5) Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero DQ Dos Caras Jr., Héctor Garza, Marco Corelone
Los Perros del Mal are no more in CMLL. Damian 666 and Mr. Aguila are indeed gone, and were replaced by the Triad of Terror. Averno & Mephisto ripped off and ripped up their Perros del Mal gear. Texano’s status is unclear. All the coverage says Averno’s group was “Triad”, which would presumably mean it’s only 3 big, but CMLL.com teases more members to come. I think we’re supposed to forgot about the post-Perros faction announced just last week and be surprised if/when they join up again.
Niebla faked a foul from Corelone in the main event to draw the DQ.
Villanos lost in two falls yet again, getting DQed for excessive violence in the first, then V3 being armbared by Panther for the match. Panther/V3 and UG/V5 apuesta challenged were made by the Laguneros, but it doesn’t seem like we’re getting any closer.
Mistico appeared to let everyone know he’s back next week.
According to SuperLuchas, Daniel Aceves will be the announced as new president of NWA Mexico and tonight’s show. Aceves is a Mexican wrestling silver medalist in the Olympics (in 1984, the only medalist in wrestling in Mexican history). He’s also the son of Bobby Bonales, a 40-50s EMLL wrestler who happens to be a former NWA champion. He’s been in various sports administration jobs in his post-athletic career.
The Gladiatores has a video interview with Blue Demon after his title win.
Hijo del Santo is still telling people he doesn’t think Perro is any more independent than Wagner, but would like to have some matches with him if he could. Santo’s back in Europe at the end of this month and planning the next big show in Mexico on 02/25/09.
Arturo Rivera’s column mostly talks about recent AAA storylines (Cibernetico quitting, what group will Charly join?)
ATTENTION CMLL & AAA: mask/gear makers Deportes Martinez report 50% of their sales are from outside the country via their website. How much money do the promotions leave on the table each and every day because they don’t have a good software to sell their merchandise or don’t have merchandise to sell at all
CMLL (FRI) 11/07 Arena Mexico
1) Ángel Azteca Jr. & Angel de Oro vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Marcela vs Amapola, Medussa, Princesa Sujei
3) Máximo, Mictlán, Valiente vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Felino, Misterioso II
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Mascara Dorada vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Héctor Garza, Marco Corelone, Místico vs Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero
I’m pretty sure they’re trying with this lineup. And we know who Mascara Dorada isn’t.
AAA announced their last taping of the year, the one that usually doesn’t air until 2009, will be on 12/19 in Chilpancingo, about when and where it usually is. That article makes it sound like Guerra de Titanes is the only yet to be announced taping, which means they’ll have two best of episodes to close out the year.
Ovaciones talks to Tony Rivera, who says Loco Max is a dangerous opponent who he’s going to defeat. Tony hopes this win will move him up in CMLL (noting he’s been there 10 years) and would like Satanico next.
Ángel Azteca Jr. & Sombra de Plata beat Semental & Zayco in Tuesday’s opener. Now you know!
AAA (SUN) 09/28 Poliforo Juan Gabriel, Juarez [thanks to albert cerda]
1) Espectro III & Hermes b ? & Rey Halcon
2) Maquina 45 Jr. & Samuray b Chucky & Rey America
3) Cinta de Oro, Pirata Morgan Sr., Rey Guerrero b Gato Eveready, Magno, Takeda
4) Killer Clown, Psycho Clown, Zombie Clown DQ El Alebrije, Octagón, Super Porky
5) Cibernetico & La Parka Jr. b Kenzo Suzuki & Mesias
Show drew much better than the last CMLL show here – this was close to the sell out. (CMLL is back here with Park vs Wagner on 10/12.)
In the semimain, they did a finish where Porky fouled a clown, covered him, and got the three to end the undefeated streak (big reaction), but the referee changed his mind and awarded the DQ.
Sticking with NWA Mexico but on the other end of the spectrum, SuperLuchas has a reall good interview with Black Spider. Spider is NWA Mexico’s “techinical advisor”, which basically means he’s the one in charge of deciding which guys get in their school (of 60 who tried, half were cut) and which of those get on to their shows. Skayde’s teaching at this school, Black Thunder, Turbo and Suicida are among those training here.
Confirming what was mentioned by Suicida last week, they’re planning on running a NWA Lightweight tournament at the next NWA Mexico show. (This would dovetail with Pearce/Demon for the Heavyweight title nicely, because you get to have NWA Officals on hand to make the new title nice and offical.) I am surprised that it’s going to be an NWA *World* Lightweight Championship; seeing as they’re unhappy with the other weight division titles being in Mexico for all time, why would they do the same thing agian?
And yes, there’s the usual “Demom COULD strip the CMLL holders of the NWA titles” bit. Since CMLL has now been using those titles without any concern for the NWA’s approval for decades already, I don’t think they’d react at all if they said anything (and it’d be a confusing lawsuit if they want that route.) The only way I can see this working – besides the obvious of CMLL champions working NWA shows – is if they set some public deadline for Averno, Sombra and Atlantis to defend their titles against an NWA approved challenger. CMLL still probably wouldn’t care, but NWA Mexico gets to publicly act like they tried to make this work and maybe a few days of articles about the promotion if they hype it right. You’ve got to make your empty gestures look like they mean something (that is the essence of professional wrestling.)
Do I get points for naming the NWA champions off the top of my head? I think I do! Does Atlantis even know he’s champion?
Marco Corelone says it’s about time to have the hair mask with Lizmark Jr.
indy (TUE) 09/30 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [RFC]
1) Bom Bom & Dama de Hierro b Angelica & Cybergata
2) Mini Tiger Universitario b Chico de Barrio & Coquito Amarillo
3) Karonte & Panthro b Black Soul & Kahoma Jr.
4) 5X & Rey Apostol b Golden Boy & Papichulo and Hermano Diablo I & Hermano Diablo II [UXF TAG]
This was the final, following up semifinal matches from 3 weeks ago.
indy (THU) 10/02 Arena Olimpico Laguna de Gomez Palacio [el siglo de torreon]
1) Camorra & Oso Negro Jr. vs Aguila Negra & Espacial
2) Brilalnte & Tackle vs Arana Cibernetica I & Arana Cibernetica I
3) Piloto Negro, Piloto Suicida, Sexy Piscis vs Chamuco Trevino, Escriba, Sexy Libra
4) Stuka I vs Mr. Guerrero [Coahuila LH]
Stuka’s defending this title here for the first time, but he’s done some with it in Torreon. The article lists it as the North Light Heavyweight championship but I think it’s the same title. And that’s your day in obscure regional titles.
SCORPIO TRIBUTE (SUN) 10/05 Arena Emiliano Zapata [LuchandoLibre]
1) Mini Flecha Verde vs Babe Star
2) King Dragon & Super Mayito vs Flecha Verde & Macho Jr.
3) Caramelo & Rey Fenix vs Alucin & Coyote Dorado
4) Carta Brava & Carta Brava Jr. vs Rambo Jr. & Super Colt
5) Halcon Diabolico I & Halcon Diabolico II vs Electrodo Jr. & Meteoro Kid [Emiliano Zapata TAG]
6) Emilio Charles Jr., Rambo, Shocker vs Máscara Sagrada, Super Muneco, Villano III
