Park vs Pirata (juniors), Averno/Dorada

IWRG (SUN) 02/13/2011 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. (flickr), The Gladiatores, Al Filo del Ring]
1) Imposible & Tonatiuh b Fulgore I & Fulgore II
quick falls
2) El Pollo & Eragon DQ Hammer & Magnifico
Pollo turned on Eragon after Eragon accidentally hit him a few times. Ref waved it off as a DQ. Pollo appeared to join the rudo side after the match.
3) Carta Brava Jr., Comando Negro, Eterno b Alan Extreme, Dinamic Black, Golden Magic
Comando Negro reversed a roll up and grabbed the bottom rope to beat Alan Extreme. Alan shoved the ref for blowing the call. Eterno suffered a wrist injury catching a dive at the end. Golden Magic, replacing the billed Goleador, appears to be a new name.
4) el Ángel, Multifacético, Veneno b Avisman, Destroyer, El Hijo del Diablo
Destoyer’s girl Sherry got involved as usual. She teased kissing Veneno in the third fall, Veneno knocked her away, but Diablo still pinned him.
5) Bobby Lee Jr., Hijo de LA Park, Trauma I b Bestia 666, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, Hijo de Pirata Morgan
Bobby Lee Jr. replaced Hijo del Pantera. Rudos took the first, tecnicos the second, and Park beat Pirata for the win.

Al Filo del Ring has an interview with Los Gringos.

CMLL (MON) 02/14/2011 Arena Puebla [SporTimes]
1) Black Tiger & Tigre Rojo b Sauron & Siki Ozama Jr.
2) Camorra, Fuerza Chicana, Robin b Camaleón, Freesbe, Lestat
Robin filled in for Zayco. Despite being on the wrong side, he still won. This was Camaleón’s debut in Arena Puebla, and he seems to be showing up much more frequently this year.
3) Sangre Azteca DQ Misterioso II, Loco Max, Ares, Vangelis, Stuka Jr., Sagrado, Metro, Fuego, Delta [cibernetico]
Ares replaced Nosferatu. No order of elimination. Much like Tuesday’s cibernetico, it came down to two guys on the same team. This time, it was feuding Sangre Azteca and Misterioso. Misterioso yanked Sangre’s mask for the rare DQ finish to a cibernetico.
4) Euforia, Pólvora, Virus b Ángel de Oro, Diamante, Rush
Virus snuck in a foul on Rush for the pin. Rush demanded a rematch for next week, and Virus accepted.
5) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Super Porky DQ Averno, Mephisto, Volador Jr.
Rudos took the firs, tecnicos took the second, Averno yanked Dorada’s mask in the third fall.

R de Rudo has a really good interview with Heavy Metal about his life long love of music. Metal believes Arena Naucalpan, in the late 80s, was the first lucha libre arena to use entrance music. The building also doubled as an  skating rink (!!) so they had the music and lights already set up.

[poll id=”25″]

Haven’t done a poll in a while. Still not especially sure if this is winner take all or winner faces winner next week, but it’s the Super Liegro championship so I’m trying not to care. You could so easily come up with 10 more that I think that’s what happening but I’m not positive.

I haven’t written much about the tag title match. I think it could be fun, but it seems like a real stretch to build Sombra & Volador up only to have them lose in a title defense that only exists to do a special main event for a fan appreciation show. Rey & Atlantis would not be bad champions, but there are better ways to even do that.

Quite the jam packed lineup of tecnico high flyers.

Ovaciones reports Alebrije and Cuije are out of AAA. Everything you need to know about how the press feels about AAA in 2009 is summed up in this subheadline:

Something is happening within this group and we have no doubt that his departure has to do something Konnan.

Alebrije & Cuije haven’t been on TV since the 01/31 show in Chalco, though they’re still listed as working next Wednesday. Like everyone else who leaves AAA, they’re headed to IWRG. I kinda wonder what’s up with IWRG, because there’s no Thursday Naucalpan show, and there’s no Xochimilco Saturday show until the 25th.

Luchas 2000 #465 has the Brazos – el Brazo, Brazo de Plata, and Brazo de Oro – reunited (for the first time since maybe 1996? – that was the last CMLL teamup, anyway.) I think we can take this as soft confirmation that El Brazo is done in AAA, and I’m kinda surprised UWE hasn’t already announced the inevitable Brazos/Villanos trios match.

Note that cover also mentions Perros getting on TV in May, but doesn’t say where. Judging from the comments, it doesn’t say much more inside.

It’ll be Mistico and Misterioso II who head to NJPW this May for a couple shows. No title shot for Mistico quite yet, and no Dragon Rojo – which is probably for the best, because he’s probably not ready for this spotlight yet, and Misterioso is very deserving of the opportunity. Plus, it allows CMLL to just continue working thru the Hijo del Averno lineup (though they might he skipped to the last guy in the group.)

Matches are:
05/05 Korakuen Hall: Hiroshi Tanahashi, Tiger Mask IV, Mistico vs Giant Bernard, Black Tiger V, Misterioso II
05/06 Korakuen Hall: Hiroshi Tanahashi & Mistico vs Hirooki Goto & Misterioso II

I could not be possibly be more for the idea of Mistico & Tanahashi teaming. Both shows are taped, the 5th for Samurai TV and the 6th for SXW. And, hey, if you’re uploading to matches to YouTube in a month, you ought to add a watermark to the video so we can all see when CMLL uses it on their TV shows.

This week’s Ras de Lona episode features the guys from the Japan/Mexico tour, among the usual half million other things. I think Leono mentions who he was before he was Leono (which explains the mask he was wearing on LATV), but I couldn’t make it out.

DJ Spectro has a three part (1 2 3) tribute to El Solitario, who passed away 23 years ago yesterday.

WagnerMania is helping out with an auction for Grond XXX, with a mask up for bid.

Kcidis previews Guerreros del Ring #185, including his cartoon.

As part of the Los Campeones de Lucha Libre in Atlanta two Tuesdays from now, there’s a free after party at a nearby bar.

El Universal does the What Is Lucha Libre article, framed around AAA’s LA show.

SuperLuchas has added Hector Garza gear to their store. Meanwhile, still no Artillero cap, but I may settle for an Atlantis one. (Well, I would if shipping wasn’t THIRTY FOUR DOLLARS, or the price of three hats.) This reminds me that someone asked me where they might buy a lucha libre lineup poster online; I didn’t know at the time, but now that I see one here, I can’t find that e-mail.

LuchaWorld has Robert on AULL 09/27/06, CMLL 12/01/07, and AAA 11/15/07, plus KrisZ’s news update.

Ultimo Guerrero vs Villano V to face in a mask vs mask match on March 20th

8:30pm: Update at the end of the poast

That’s your Dos Leyendas main event. I’m not sure if that was the plan all along, or if Villano III cost himself (and Blue Panther) this pay day by opting to do the hair match with Scorpio Jr. this weekend in Arena Neza, but CMLL announced a straight singles one on one match for the masks. Tickets go on sale next week.

The talk, when V5 beat Blue Panther, is that V5 would ultimately lose his mask in turn to build up a young wrestler. If you believe that talk, Ultimo Guerrero does not exactly fit the bill as a young wrestler. (On the other hand, one could say V5’s importance has been so diminished, it’s not the boost beating Panther would’ve been for anyone else.)

If Ultimo beats Villano 5, then I think we can definitely say we would’ve preferred this sequence of events to be Ultimo taking Blue Panther’s mask and anyone taking Villano 5’s. But, we need to keep on saying if, because CMLL’s shown they’ll do silly things just to do the surprise.

Other notes from the press conference
– Dragon Rojo Jr. has a new mask. No picture yet, but I’m sure we’ll see it soon.

– Hector Garza is starting a tecnico midcard group again. This time, it’s Angel de Oro, Angel de Plata, Angel Azteca Jr. and Metro. Hmm, who doesn’t belong? Maybe we can call him Angel de Diario.

No one remembers this, but the Angels were actually in Hector’s group last year – they were introduced as Angel I & Angel II at the time. Anyway, no idea if this is supposed to be a separate undercard act or if they’ve forgotten Hijo del Fantasma and La Mascara.

Since Mistico doesn’t like Garza, maybe now he can be free to complain that giving guys “Angel de Plata” and “Angel de Oro” gimmicks is totally ripping off and marganilizing his identity. They really seem like Martha Villalobos knock off Mistico characters than CMLL ones.

Update (1): Box Y Lucha’s take on the press conference does clarify that Hijo del Fantasma and La Mascara are supposed to be part of Hector’s group.

In big news somehow lost in the shuffle, Misterioso II was announced as a new member of Hijos del Averno.  We’re down to just Virus, Vangelis, Okumura and Lizmark Jr. as unaligned notable rudos in CMLL.

06/11: Coliseo, VIP, Monterrey, AOL

CMLL (SUN) 06/10 Arena Coliseo [ovaciones, superlucha]
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II b Vaquero & Zayco
2) Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Nitro b Fabián el Gitano, Metálico, Tony Rivera

4) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone DQ Averno, Mephisto, Sangre Azteca
5) Místico, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero b Damián 666, Halloween, Misterioso II

Misterioso II logically replaced Mr. Aguila – I don’t know why CMLL thought Aguila could work both this and Cinco Magnificos show – and Sangre fouled Blue Panther in the semimain. That’d be a fun feud, I wonder if Panther is still a middleweight.

VIP (SAT) 06/09 Roots Magic Club [Alvin @ el Martinete]
1) Cerebro Negro & Dr. Cerebro b Skayde & Turbo
2) Nino X, Super Muenco Jr., Super Nino b Black Heart, La Furia, La Mosca

(Box Y Lucha Foro) Danger says it was not him who video taped unmasked luchadores backstage with a cell phone. What he really needs right now is someone else to say it wasn’t him.

Magazine
* LUCHAS 2000 #372 has Espectro Jr. deciding if he’ll put up his mask and Mistico winning the LdP.
* Super Luchas #216 has Mistico winning the LdP. Inside, in the last notes column, the magazine notes that AAA isn’t (and shouldn’t) be happy about lineups being leaked. This includes the TripleMania one, which we’re still not sure of – everyone’s only using the original thread as source. I’m thinking the lineup is what AAA has down on paper, but they might not have all the foreign names confirmed at this point.

El Zocalo de Monclova has an interview with (masked) Mascara Ano 2000 and Universo 2000. Things have never been as good as the first couple years of the 90s when Cien had his mask match with Rayo and Mascara beat Anibal for his mask; it’s never like the old days. If this blog goes 50 years (and it won’t), I vow to just write cranky posts about The Old Times Were Better. Universo says he’s talking to two guys about possibly carrying on his name (it has to be two with this crew) – his daughters have no interest in lucha libre and he wouldn’t let them get in the business anyway.

There was also a press conference in Monclova before the first CMLL show there in some time, but the paper doesn’t appear to have results.

El Sol de Tlaxcala has an interview with indy wrestler Astro Aereo. He says he’s been wrestling for 10 years, trained by Tarahumara and is hoping to break into Arena Puebla.

El Halcon #85 is up. Inside
– Q&A with Canek Jr. His favorite foreigner? Dennis Rodman. Well, he did wrestle.
– Second part of their interview with the Kaoma Family
– Interview with Zocar, middleweight champion of Morelos.
– Profile of El Africano, a rudo from the 60s and 70s in Morelos, who passed away last August.

Noticas de Oaxaca profiles Vuelo Espacial, who wrestled a lot around there and Mexico City, including a long tag run with Rayo Tapaito and CMLL wanted to sign, but he turned them down so he could go back Oaxaca and finish his medical degree, and I have trouble believing it for some reason. They mention Vuelo Espacial was winner of the 2001 Gran Alternativa – except that was Psicodelico Jr. I’m confused here.

01/21: Accion, Tijuana, Misterioso II

The big news on Accion is they got a new graphics package. And also matches – neither got as much time as usual.

CMLL: Wagner/Shocker/Univeros vs Park/Ultimo/Atlantis. Universo did his plancha, Wagner did his ramp dive, taking out the Guerreros. This left Park and Shocker in. They set up a spot where Shocker went for a spear, Park moves, and referee Babe Richard takes it, except that Babe wasn’t really lined up behind Park – Shocker had to slightly turn to make it work, and it didn’t look accidental at all. He should’ve got DQed for that, but Park makes a show of getting fouled.

AAA: Park/Octagon/Intocable vs Cibernetico/Chessman/Charly from Puebla. Parka’s big comeback move is punching people in the face. They still seem to be working this the same way as always, despite the Hell Brothers semingly being good guys by now. Parka blatantly fouled Cibernetico (it was Copetes who called for the DQ) and that’s all we see.

Friday night in Tijuana Super Muneco won the mask of Coco Negro. His name is Gustavo Martinez, from Mexico City, but he’s more specifically a random person put under a Coco mask to partner with Coco Rojo and help build the Coco/Muenco feud. [YucaRod on Box Y Lucha, Abraham A. Domínguez Ramirez on el Halcon]

El Halcon also has a reprint of a local article – Misterioso II talks about a fight he got in with a fan. (This is the video in comments, right?) Fan threw a beer, Misterioso was angry, Misterioso wanted to throw a beer back at the fan, couldn’t get one, and so he just slapped him. He now realizes that was not the way to go, but something had to be done, and he feels there’s a segment of fans who don’t respect them.

Ricky Marvin, and partner Kotaro Suzuki, won NOAH’s GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship.
