01/13: Mexico

Konnan had his hip operation. (RFC.) He still needs a kidney, but dialysis must’ve made it safe enough to do the surgery.

CMLL (TUE) 01/09 Arena Coliseo Results

2) Apocalipsis, Caligula, Ramstein b Danger, Molotov, Starman

4) Felino, Satanico, Virus DQ Canek Jr., Okumura, Pierroth

Ovaciones mention that Valiente is looking for any help he can in finding his eight year old daughter, who’s been missing since 12/23.

Pierroth fouled Satanico to end the semimain. Ultimo pulled off his mask and tossed it to Shocker, who got caught with it for the main event DQ.

CMLL (FRI) 01/12 Arena Mexico Results [ova, Alvin @ el martinete]
1) Sombra de Plata, Super Nova b Polvora, Vaquero
2) Fabian el Gitano, Leono, Texano Jr. b Arkangel, Loco Max, Nitro

5) Hector Garza, Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mr. Aguila b Dr. Wagner Jr., Heavy Metal, Rey Bucanero

In the semimain, Ultimo took off his mask, threw at Shocker, who got caught with it. Ever get that deja vu feeling? Ultimo also beat up Ke Monito, who was here with Shocker. In the main event, Dr. Wagner was left “maskless, fouled, and on his back”, so it was a good night for the Perros.

12/28: Mistico, IWRG

IWRG.com

Ovaciones has a story about Mistico jumping to AAA. It’s a joke. (Do not sound the funk alarm.) They did this last year and Dave Meltzer ended up falling for it, so that’s something to look forward to.

Here’s what a random google found, FWIW:

December 28, Day of the Holy Innocents, is a religious commemoration of King Herod’s ordering the slaughter of all male infants in his kingdom, intended to include the Christ Child. In Mexico it is celebrated as day akin to April Fool’s, an occasion for jokes and pranks. The usual tactic is to approach a friend and ask to borrow cash or some object of value. If fooled by the ploy, the victim may be given a candy or silly gift in return, along with much joking and name calling. So beware or you may find yourself titled Fool Saint for a day!

Ovaciones also has a story about Atlantis taking a vacation to Salt Lake City, which if in fact true, is also a joke. Actually, if it’s true, I would hope they bring a camera crew with to tape “Atlantis skis – and is a rudo!” skits. I mean, I guess CMLL shorter matches and AAA’s trend towards ‘extreme’ wrestling and other stuff could be voted as “worst development in lucha this year”, but for me, it’s the lack of wacky skits. I have a problem with show long bits that reveal the man under the Shocker mask to be, in fact, Shocker, but I’d be totally down with show long bits of Shocker and Dr. Wagner Jr. bowling and getting a strike in every frame.

IWRG (MON) 12/25 Arena Naucalpan Results [IWRG]
1) Black Stone b Golem
2) Comando Mega, Macho II b Bacteria, Dr. Karonte Jr.
3) Black Terry, Camorra, Supremo Jr. b Freelance, Halcon Salvaje, Star Boy
4) Freelance, Magico, Tony Rivera b Black Power, Estallido, Mascara Ano 2000 Jr.
5) El Hijo del Diablo, Fantasma de la Opera, Veneno b Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Suicida [IWRG IC TRIOS]

Veneno got eliminated in the third fall, but resurfaced to pop Cerebro Negro with a chain for the winning pin. IWRG’s results list this as a battle for vacant titles.

IWRG’s taking today off. Yay for them.

IWRG (MON) 01/01 Arena Naucalapan Lineup
1) Golem vs Black Stone
2) Bacteria & Ave Fenix vs Macho II, Comando Mega
3) Turbo, Freelance, Halcon Salvaje vs Supremo Jr., Avisman, Black Thunder
4) Suicida, Dr. Cerebro, Cerebro Negro vs Black Terry, Fantasma de la Opera, Camorra
5) Mr. Niebla, Negro Navarro, Leono vs Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Okumura, Veneno

Looks like all the Sunday shows are being moved to Monday again.

AAA LG (WED) 12/27 Unidad Deportiva Miguel Aleman Valdez Lineup [El Sol del Bajio]
1) May Flowers vs Polvo de Estrellas vs Rossy Moreno vs Cinthia Moreno [hair]
2) Zorro vs Charly Manson
3) El Elegido, La Parka Jr. vs Abismo Negro, Chessman

12/27: Monterrey, Puebla, IWRG

indy (TUE) 12/26 Arena Coliseo Monterrey Lineup
1) Burrito b Mini Burrito
2) Nuacho Libre b Sobra Sky
3) Vudu b La Kalaka
4) Golden Boy b Ejecutor
5) Mascara Purpura b Bestia
6) Estralla Doradad Jr. b Potro Jr.
7) Pancho Tequila & La Bndida b Humberto Garza Jr., Dulce Poly

I guess Purpura is back ‘home’ for the holidays.

CMLL (MON) 12/25 Arena Puebla Results [box y lucha via KrisZ]
1) Ares, Karissma b Fenix, Iron
2) Bobby Jack, Espiritu Maligno, Siki Osama b Astro Boy, the Tiger, Zigma
3) India Sioux, Lady Apache, Marcela b Amapola, Hiroka, Rosa Negra
4) Batman, Lizmark, Mictlan, Sagrado DQ Pierroth, Skandalo, Terrible, Yankee Star
Mictlan took a powerbomb on the outside and laid there. I guess they thought he was just selling it big, because it was ten minutes before they checked on him and strechered him out.
5) Atlantis, Terrible, Universo 2000 b Heavy Metal, Negro Casas, Sagrado

This post says someone said Mictlan suffered a Cervical Fracture. All reports on the show say the arena puebla staff was woefully unprepared and unreactive to the injury.

Ovaciones mentions the main event results for the last couple IWRG shows.

on Thursday: Coco Verde beat Dr. Cerebro for his hair in the finals of the cage match
on Monday: Hijo del Diablo, Veneno, Fantasma de Opera beat Dr. Cerebro, Cerebro Negro, and Suicida for the IWRG IC Trios Titles. Those belts were previously held by Veneno, Cerebro Negro and Scorpio Jr., so I guess this was a(n unannounced) decision match for the belts.

12/21: Guadalajara, IWRG

hype picture for Mistico in Pachuca

CMLL (SUN) 12/17 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara Results
1) Neon, Virgo b Flama, Imposter
2) Azazel, Exterminador DQ Danger (Guadalajara), Destroyer
3) Golden, Idolo, Metal Blanco, Metatron b Infierno, Magnum, Mr. Trueno, Rey Trueno
4) Angel Blanco Jr. b Fabian el Gitano [WWA MIDDLE]
5) Alex Koslov, Mascara Ano 2000, Universo 2000 b Leon Blanco, Maximo, Negro Casas

In the segunda, Destroyer bopped Exterminador on the head with a pot. I was sure the tercera was originally announced as a mask match, but it’s on Christmas instead. No report from Tuesday as of yet, but there’s a post on box y lucha saying that Rayman got hurt due to the top rope breaking.

IWRG (THU) 12/14 Arena Naucalpan Results
1) Black Stone b Rey de Corazones
2) Black Jaguar, Comando Mega b Greco Jr., Puma King
3) Cyborg, Dr. Karonte, Estallido b Ave Fenix, Freelance, Kid Tiger
4) Hijo del Diablo, Pierroth Jr., Veneno b Astro Boy, Cerebro Negro, Volador Jr.
5) Alex Koslov, Olimpico, Tarzan Boy b Felino, Negro Casas, Negro Navarro

I think every single rudo side won. That never happens.

IWRG’s running a twelve man mask/hair tournament tonight. The losers from two blocks of six will face in a stakes match.
Block A: Negro Casas, Veneno, Xiblava, Olimpico, Dr. Cerebro, Coco Rojo
Block B: Black Warrior, Felino, Cerebro Negro, Sagrado, Mr. Niebla, Coco Verde

I’d guess one of the Cerebros is going down.

Sangre Azteca talked about his title win in La Prensa. I’ve seen La Mascara hyped as having 24 or 25 defenses; we’ve got 11 recorded on the luchawiki, including the 3 previous shots Sangre was talking about. I think it’s more likely La Mascara’s actually defended the title that many times and we don’t know than them making up a defense number. That also means, somewhere, someone’s keeping track of these defenses.

While in Tulancingo for a lucha show yesterday, Super Crazy received a local award for achievement in sports.

Box Y Lucha #2797 has Corelone and Kenzo bald.

12/13: Guadalajara, IWRG, Toryumon, 12/15 on PPV

4) Fabian el Gitano, Tigre Blanco, Tigre Metalico b Angel Blanco Jr., Hijo de Pierroth, Toxico
5) Averno, Mephisto, Ultimo Guerrero b Dr. Wagner Jr., Gallo, Rey Bucanero

Two Mr. Trueno’s interfered in the tercera – one was Magnum under the mask to cause confusion – and the whole midcard locker room ended up in the ring by the end. This sets up a cage of death match with Magnum, Infierno, Mr. Trueno, Rey Trueno, Golden, Metatron, Idolo and Metal Blanco for this Sunday. Gallo replaced Hijo de Lizmark in the main.

5) Ibushi Kota b Camorra [Young Dragon Cup, final]
6) Ultimo Dragon, Kazuchika Okada, Rey Bucanero b Ultimo Guerrero, Okumura, Hirooki Goto

The big Contract Signing for Friday’s hair match is today, according to Ovaciones. Somehow, Kenzo has already signed, but Marco, Pierroth and Universo will sign the contract today. Guess Kenzo has a booking he can’t get back from. Efesto will also debut at the press conference, and the Perros and the Guerreros will be there to argue about their title match.

The 12/15 show will be on PPV, according to Ovaciones, which means no matches from it will air Saturday, which means the stuff that was supposed to air this past Friday will air Saturday. I tend to believe they planned this out in advance.

Ovaciones also says the 12/15 AAA taping is the last of their year. Whatever the AAA TAG tournament is, it’ll definitely stretch till next year.

12/06: Coliseo, Diablo, IWRG, AULL

CMLL (TUE) 12/05 Arena Coliseo Results
1) Bracito de Oro, Fantasy DQ Fire, Sombrita
2) Molotov, Starman, Trueno b Caligula, Mesala, Ramstein
3) Amapola, Hiroka, La Nazi b Luna Magica, Marcela, Sahori
4) Misterioso II, Olimpico, Tarzan Boy b La Mascara, Mascara Purpura, Satanico
5) Mistico, Sagrado, Shocker b Damian 666, Halloween, Mr. Aguila

Main event was in straight falls. Fans were divided on who to cheer.

two sides: This week’s Figure Four Daily reports El Hijo del Diablo might have been fibbing to Ovaciones early this week. The short version is Diablo tried to hold up the promoter for more money, didn’t get it, then decided to tank the match instead and accuse the promoter of shorting him.

Various different promoters run shows at Auditioro de Tijuana – they all run on Friday, but basically take turns – and the Diablo/Mistico match was run by Baja Star. Baja Star’s been running events for many years – my records go back to 2002 and they’re running then – so it is hard to believe they’d decide just to cut and run. They’ll be due to run another show in January. If we believe Diablo, they ought to have trouble doing that, because the undercards will be upset about not being paid and the commission would be angry for the same reasons. I think that’s the simplest way of cutting thru the he said/he said stories – if/when Baja Star runs another show, and it goes fine, then Diablo’s clearly making stuff up.

No one else has complained about their pay day, as far as I’ve read.

Ovaciones has a quite a bit of good nuggets today
– Efesto (spelled here Efecto) is Hombre Sin Nombre’s new identity.
– Marco Corelone is returning home to Italy (hahaha) to prepare for his big match on 12/15. Marco calls Universo unprofessional in an interview, and those two will not have wrestled in Arena Mexico since 11/10 (though they did meant in Xalapa and probably other smaller shows.)
– AULL’s TV contract with PCTV has run out, so this weekend’s show will be the last one of the “season.” Not sure if that means they’ll be back on TV in the new year or if WCW’s season finale.
– IWRG has canceled this Thursday’s show, citing poor attendance on recent Thursday shows.. They’ll run the next two Thursdays, and then close for the season.

In El Sol de Tampico, Cibernetico vows to send Muerte back to Puerto Rico and make sure he never returns.

Tinieblas and Mil Mascaras were honored in Puebla for – being Tinieblas and Mil Mascaras. El Sol de Puebla has the general story, and La Quinta Columna also has articles: an interview with Tinieblas and Mil Mascaras correcting a story about his past at the press conference. The man telling Mil’s background said he didn’t go to the Tokyo Olimpicos because he couldn’t put the funds together, while Mil claims it’s because he was ill treated and ill fed and decided to go do anything else.
