AAA posted a news update, confirming the Rey de Reyes bits we’d heard elsewhere – Rey Misterio to appear, 4 teams in the final (though they still don’t explain how).

Tonight’s the Tijuana Box Y Lucha commission banquet.

Fantastic piece of gossip which I believe came from the Observer, but I don’t recall 100% off the top of my head, so let’s just source it to Steve Sims: Recall how Latin Lover complained about Intocable and Elegido stealing his gimmick, and refusing to come back to AAA unless they were gone? He kinda got his wish. Those two guys are still with AAA, but AAA’s promised Latin that any show he’s booked on, they won’t be. Check for yourself – Latin’s worked the 03/03 taping and will work Rey de Reyes, and Intocable and Elegidio have the night off.

One other newsbit I’m sure came from the Observer – when Mistico did his WWE tryout, besides working with Dean Malenko, he also worked with Jamie Noble. That sounds like the greatest thing ever; Noble could SO be WWE’s Averno. Of course, I probably think way to highly of Noble – if you told me Mistico would get buried for 2 years in WWE but have a series of 10+ min matches with Jamie Noble on Velocity Redux, I’d strongly consider it – so don’t listen to me

Recent (and not so Recent) Box Y Lucha Articles

Box Y Lucha posted many magazine’s worth of articles at the end of last week. Let me try to link to everything for no good reason:

CMLL Owner Slightly Upset

Francisco Alonso is a somewhat angry man. Apparently, after the CMLL vs AAA match on the telethon, someone on air suggested they do a show together – the CMLL owner says no way, and the last time they did, AAA ended up hiding in it’s locker room at the end of the show, and he doesn’t want to deal with that again. He’s also very unhappy with Arturo Rivera coming to CMLL for a few weeks and Alfonso Morales going to AAA for a few weeks. He notes that was out of his control, but states that they have at least 50 new faces they want to get over (QUE?) and has no time for helping out other companies.

In a completely random and seemingly unrelated note, Alonso sounds very enthused about how the CMLL Bodybuilding event and hopes it becomes an annual event. I would be worried about such a statement, but if it’s anyone added more muscle, it’s Olimpico, and he’s got absolutely no push out of it. This fits with the general belief Alonso is divorced from the day to day decision making.

Year End Voting

– Rudo of the Year: Black Warrior (CMLL) and Chessman. Both have new legions of fans – Warrior’s surprised, but Chessman figures people just started using common sense.
– Mistico’s listed as wrestler of a year on the cover, but that article wasn’t posted. If they’re doing split ones there, I’d assume Cibernetico would be the other one.
– Four Man Team Of The Year: Los Mexican Powers. They do have the belts. Juvi says all of us who thought they were an imitation of the Mexicools were wrong. I’m going to hang my head in shame.

Inexplicable
Mil Mascaras bio, which is explicable. The crazy section is where they discuss the idea of a Mil Mascaras Jr., Mil’s all “no one else could live up to me” as you’d expect Mil to be, and then mentions a conversation with Rey Misterio Jr. the other day, where Rey explained to Mil that there’s another international guy who’s a copy of him – Tiger Mask.

(what?)

Mil also gives a thumbs down to Nacho Libre, in case you were waiting to find out.

Feud Hype

– Before their match at Guerra de Titanes (that’s how old some of these are), Muerte Cibernetica and Cibernetico cut promos on each other. Muerte thanks his fans, who obviously recognize him as he truly is: the messiah. Cibernetico is nicknamed “The King Of Pumping Iron”. That’s an opening for like 500 jokes and I’m not going to make any of them for some odd reason.

– Mistico wants to fight Averno for masks because it’s a match the fans want to see, and Averno doesn’t want to wait to the anniversary show to do it. They’re very much pushing that the match is agreed to, just not the date.

AAA pretty boys angry, still pretty

Remember how Latin Lover claimed AAA wrestlers were ripping him off and wouldn’t go back unless they were ditched? Yea, well, Intocable and Elegido took that one as well as you might think.

Intocable says Latin Lover has hated him from day one and Super Calo and Winners were the true innovates of dancing. Unlike Latin Lover, Intocable notes he didn’t abandon his wrestling fans one he found a little bit of mainstream popularity. Intocable would actually NOT like to face Latin Lover in a match – they’re both tecnicos and the fans wouldn’t want to see them fight, but he’s defintely not scared of Latin Lover. Intocable notes Latin Lover isn’t coming back to AAA any time soon, so he must be totally scared.

Elegido also goes with the “Latin’s abandoned his fans” idea. Elegido states that he’s not imitating or stealing from anyone, he’s got his own unique style. Elegido notes that he came to AAA to take Latin Lover’s place, which kinda makes Latin Lover right, but I shouldn’t be arguing with a professional stripper who just wants to share his talents with the public, as he proclaims. (I imagine Elegido bellowing all these quotes for some reason.) Elegido, AAA historian, says Latin Lover didn’t know how to dance and didn’t have a good body until Antonio Pena made him into the man he is today – Elegido knew all that stuff before he started wrestling, so he couldn’t be ripping anyone off. It took Latin Lover 14 years to get the fans Elegido’s gotten in 7 months, which proves something. Elegido ends by thanking Latin Lover for leaving AAA.

Bios/Intervews
= Blue Demon Jr. talks about wrestling in Arena Mexico for the Teleton show and whatever, but the real thing I took out of this one was the 11/20 Teleton show was supposed to be CMLL vs UWA! Maybe I’m just dumb for taking two months to understand this, but I think that’s topped by CMLL doing an interpromtoional rivalry angle like 13 years after the other promotion died. If AAA dies this year, we can look forward to a big AAA vs CMLL show in 2020. Anyway, Demon does say some noteworthy stuff – he was 70% sure he’d be wrestling in Arena Mexico to start ’07 (not yet) so he can prop up attendance, he’s hoping the CMLL vs indy show becomes an annual event, and he’s thinking he’s not still a member of the Perros.
Konnan states it was never even a consideration that he would run AAA, but he’s just there to help – like by bringing people with actual talent fron TNA. (LANCE HOYT!)
– Coloso Colosetti, who debuted in 1963 and claims still to be wrestling occasionally, had testicular surgery on 12/20. He says he’ll recover in three months, and then go on a farewell tour.
Alex Koslov! talks about wrestling in Mexico. He’s learned more in the time in Mexico than the 4 years prior; he chalks that up partially to wrestling guys with a lot more experience, rather than the young men of similar age you’ll find on the US indy scene. Alex loves Mexican women and is looking into making one his fiancee. Also, Alex’s lost his hair while in Mexico – but not in a match, he just had a barber who had no idea what he was doing.
Octagoncito talks about the death of his father last November and his goals for 2007.
Mano Negra talks about winning the mask. When the referee raised Atlantis hand, Mano Negra was not sad. He knew, inside, he was a winner who just lost a battle, but not the way. (How’s that war going against Atlantis now?) He’s been wrestling for 36 years now.
Brazo de Plata Jr. talks about joining AAA. His mother was a little bothered by him changing his name to Kronos, so he’s happy to be back to Plata. He sidesteps any real talk about why he changed names in the first place.
Flash which is basically the same one elsewhere I posted a week ago.
Sergio Iván Angulo, Arena Coliseo Ring Announcer? I mean, they say he is, but I don’t remember ever seeing him. I’ll look closer.

Random

thoughts on recent Tijuana news
Bio of Golden Boy, who’s real name is Alfonso Morales but isn’t that Alfonso Morales. Unless this is an elaborate prank.
– Various wrestlers share stories of Dia de Reyes when they were children. For Nemesis and Super Fly, this may have been last year. They ask Alex Koslov about Dia de Reyes in Russian, and he’s like “we never had it – must’ve been too cold!”

AAA 11/18 Results

AAA TV (SAT) 11/18 Lienzo Charro, Cuernavaca, Morelos Results
1) Hombre Sin Miedo, Nemesis AAA, Pegasso b Angel Mortal, Policeman, Toxico
2) Rey Cometa, Super Fly b Alliens, Gran Apache [AAA TAG, 1st]
3) Alebrije, El Brazo b May Flowers, Pimpinela Escarlata [AAA TAG, 1st]
4) Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Juventued Guerrera, Psicosis II b Chessman, Cuervo, Escoria, Ozz [MEX ATOMICOS]
5) Alan Stone, Chris Stone, Scorpio Jr., Zumbido b Brazo de Plata, Brazo de Plata Jr., Elegido, Intocable
6) Head Hunter I, Konnan, Muerte Cibernetica b La Parka Jr., Mascara Divina, Octagon

The big story from the show involved some who weren’t even wrestling – Cibernetico announced the formation of “Los Hellbrothers.” Chessman and Charly Manson, who originally said he was staying in the Vipers just until Cibernetico was back, are the other members of the group, and they’ll usurp the top tecnicos spots in the never ending AAA vs Foreign Enemy feud.

As noted earlier this week, the Mexican Atomicos titles changed hands. After all the title matches with Chessman and the Dark Family not getting along, Chessman finally got the bright idea to give up his share of the title (to be replaced by Escoria.) We’re told he changed his mind; Muerte Cibernetica pressured him, but because he’s getting a relative face here, it was Chessman’s “professionalism” which caused him to compete. And lose.

The main event had every run in, and Cibernetico’s group was formerly announced at the end.

AAA’s results mention a the Intocable/Alan Stone and Brazo de Plata/Scorpio Jr will be one four person match. Not clear if it’s a tag or a four way or if it’ll be one hair on the line or two. The best way for future success might be having everyone but the winner lose their hair – Scorpio and Alan Stone can screw Porky to be eliminated (he’s lost a ton of these anyway), and then Intocable can beat the odds by taking care of Alan and Scorpio by himself. Intocable is exactly the type of guy Konnan is not high on, so I wouldn’t expect that, but it’d be neat.

Oddly, AAA’s news section seems to contradict this, setting up a direct Porky/Scorpio match. Strange. Porky’s appearing for that to be a super libre match, since Scorpio cheats to win every time anyway.

After first being an 8 team tournament for AAA Middleweight Tag Team Titles, then being a 16 round robin tournament for AAA World Tag Team Titles (with no blocks declared), AAA is now listing their tag team tournament as a standard single elimination. That’s a lot less interesting, but much more possible for them to actually pull them out. As always, we’ll have no idea what the complete tournament picture looks like until all the matches have been announced, but I’ll try to put together tentative brackets after the next taping (11/30.)

09/17: Title Change, AAA, Accion

(As mentioned by Alexis before – gracias!)

Averno is your new CMLL World Middleweight Champion, beating Negro Casas tonight. I’m shocked and pleased. This means the (arguably) best current tag team in Mexico has two singles titles; Mephisto is still the CMLL Welterweight Champion. (You gotta figure they’re going to do a Negro/Mistico vs Averno/Mephisto match soon.)

The Anniversary card is also due out tomorrow. Tomorrow’s going to be interesting.

VdE is finishing up right now:

AAA TV (SUN) 09/17 El Toreo de Cuatro Caminos Results [Yosoyelkiss]
1) Laredo Kid b Kaoma Jr. and El Apache [dream, toreno, final]
2) Cinthia Moreno, El Elegido, Mascara Sagrada, Pimpinela b La Diabolica, Mini Abismo Negro, Pirata Morgan, Polvo de Estrellas
3) Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Juventued Guerrera, Psicosis II b Chessman, Cuervo, Escoria, Ozz [sf]
Joe Lider was carried out after a move gone wrong. Shocking.
4) AJ Styles, Homicide, Low-Ki, Samoa Joe DQ Abismo Negro, Charly Manson, Electroshock, Histeria [sf]
Charly Manson is either a permanent new Viper, or the biggest name they forget to put on the card and taking up the first empty space. Whichever, his team still lost when Abismo Negro used a martiente on Homicide. Given Homicide’s close friendship with Konnan, I expected a better profile debut for him here.
5) Cinthia Moreno, Estrellita b Tiana Ringer, Traci Brooks
The woman isn’t supposed to be a mystery, but I’m completely blanking on the women who was supposed to replace Christy Hemme; I’d assume she was here as she was supposed to be, though I’m not sure anyone would know the difference.; Update: Thank you to Tiger Driver for allowing me to sleep tonight. Tiffany was supposed to be here, and I didn’t read a reason why she wasn’t. Mexican women won (as they really should), but Chessman kidnapped Estrellita post match. Cibernetico was taken out near the start of the show, so he couldn’t make the save here. Chessman (and not Muerte) grabbing Estrellita doesn’t seem to make any sense, so it could’ve been a mistaken report, or it could’ve just been AAA booking.
6) Alan Stone, Hator, Scorpio Jr., Zumbido b Intocable, Oriental, Super Porky, Zorro
KrisZ reported Porky was in a car accident earlier this weekend, but he did end up making this match. Hator replaced Shocker, and who knows if that is a permanent deal. Zumbido did show, as did a mystery masked man who attacked Intocable. I guess he’s getting a new feud.
7) AJ Styles, Low-Ki, Samoa Joe b Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Juventued Guerrera [final]
I guess Homicide was out of this match selling the martiente, but I’m not sure why Psicsois wasn’t wrestling instead of Joe Lider, if Joe Lider got carted out before. Tons of run ins and TNA guys won. If you are a ROH fan marking out about seeing those three names together, you do not actually want this tape. (I can only imagine the things the Mexican trio tried in order to get in good with the US guys.) People were leaving after this match.
8) Gronda II, La Parka Jr., Octagon ?? Abyss, Jeff Jarrett, Konnan
Gronda was the ‘surprise’, which caused the recapper to leave. I’ll try to find a finish tomorrow, as well as any other missing details.

Accion

CMLL: Atlantis vs Mistico. Mistico’s Mexico themed outfit looks good, and both of this dives here. Nice camera angle on Atlantis’ tope. Atlantis actually got the visual victory, having Mistico in the Atlantida while Warrior was talking to the ref for god knows what reason. The finishing sequence did not look particularly good – it was an up and over sunset flip which never got over, and they had to improvise..

AAA: La Parka Jr., Octagon, Intocable vs Muerte Cibernetica, Chessman, Charly Manson in Hidalgo. Storyline here were La Parka/Muerte feuding, Charly/Intocable feuding, and La Parka reversing a whip on Muerte, which led Muerte to get accidentally chair shot by Chessman. That’s not going to help! MUERTE CIBERNETICA CAN SELL A STUNNER! Obviously, it’s just a Mexican thing. Pierroth was right about Puerto Rico all along!

There are scattered notes about the RXLL show on the box y lucha board. Sounds like the same basic show, but attendances was down (they moved people in from the cheap seats), with Vampiro and Nosawa doing the hardcore main event. Teddy Hart appeared, but did not wrestle.
