Valiente & Lyger keep their titles, Cindo de Mayo shows

CMLL (MON) 05/02/2011 Arena Puebla [Cindo Radio]
4) Valiente b Virus [MEX WELTER]
Valiente kept the title. He’d like a world title match with Averno, Mephisto or Ultimo Guerrero. (Mephisto doesn’t actually have the world title.) Virus gave Valiente credit for the win, called him a good wrestler, and said the wrestling connoisseur would appreciate their bout.
5) Rush, Strong Man, Toscano b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
Strong Man replaced Black Warrior.

No results from the early matches as of yet.

CMLL in NJPW
05/03: Jushin Liger beat Mascara Dorada [CMLL WELTER]; 10:04, brainbuster for the win.

Liger’s turned back Dorada and Sombra twice. Liger spoke positively about Dorada, who appeared to have a good tournament, but pointed out he’s beatable on the ground. Liger’s post match comments seem to point to another Sombra match. Dorada will get another singles match with Liger in Best of Super Juniors tournament, which starts up on May 26. Dorada has one more day on the tour, then flies home for Friday’s show.

Cinco de Mayo

Dragon Rojo vs “Angel Azteca” is billed for a NY tequila show on 05/05.

Lucha Va Voom’s shows are main evented by Sicodelico in LA and Casandro in Chicago. That seems unfair to my friends in LA, but they’re certain to get a Lil Chicken who might be Mascarita Dorada on other days. Tickets are $45 at the Mayan in LA (no seats, same prices for everyone) and $25 GA to $150 for booths in Chicago. If anyone’s going, let me know.

Forjando un Idolo

I liked both of them. CMLL’s press release on the tournament says Guerrero Maya Jr. and Metal Blanco will fight tonight as a tie breaker. Winner is second place in Group Charly and meets Angel de Oro on Friday. Press release doesn’t mention it, but the website lists Rey Escorpion with 7 points, having won the final voting point.

Other Stuff

On this past week’s TV, Chessman did join Los Maniacos, but they’re now calling themselves La Maniarquia. Also, Dorian brought up Jeff Jarrett by name, so he’s for sure in. Sting? I’m guessing no, though that’d be a big deal.

Rey Escorpion says his son’s illness is “Legg-Calve-Perthes“, a disease attacking the hip which only happens to young boys. The boy has already had two operations, but Rey Escorpion needs to raise funds for a third. All the guys working the 05/21 show volunteered to work on the show (and Shocker will be signing autographs), and Rey Escorpion is grateful for their support.

Princesa Sujei will appear on the next DTU show. DTU’s only used AAA wrestlers prior, I thought they had announced Chessman vs Joe Lider for the next show, and CMLL’s not letting their people work on the same show as AAA people. Whatever the situation, DTU girls working with someone like Sujei is only good news for them.

Bestia 666 will be on the Urban Wrestling Federation show. For his level of experience, Bestia 666 has been perfectly fine (though he hasn’t been in much of a place to show in AAA.)

Tecnicos took the last two falls.

4) Ángel de OroRey Cometa [Forjando un Idolo]
Angel de Oro finishes with 3 wins [9] and Rey Cometa [0] winless. The first place finishers – Oro, Delta, Diamante, Polvora – all end with perfect records. Cometa, Puma King and Angel de Plata all finished with zero points.
5) El Alebrije, Misterioso Jr., OlímpicoDiamante, Metro, Rush
Rudos took the last two falls, then made the expected title challenge for next week. Misterioso challenges Rush for a mask vs hair match. Keep dreaming.
6) Atlantis, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr.Black Warrior, Blue Panther, La Sombra
Rudos took one and three, Atlantis & Volador beating Sombra & Panther.

Saturday’s Arena Lopez Mateos show, to help Rey Escorpion pay for an operation for his child saw Rey Escorpion, Ultimo Guerrero, and Atlantis beat Villano IV, Villano V and Scorpio Jr. Straight fall win for the Guerreros, Rey Escorpion wiping out Scorpio Jr. with a dive while his parnters took care of the Guerreros. Amo La Lucha Libre has video of this match. Black Terry Jr. has video of Navarro & Traumas vs Solar, Chucho el Roto, and Iron Love: fall 1, fall 2, fall 3.

DTU’s Kids Day show included lap dances, men on women violence, and other lunacy. DTU: Keeping It Real.

Forjando un Idolo

I enjoyed both of these. Seems like the Puebla matches aren’t airing. Just to rub it in, Porra Fresa says Delta vs Guerrero Maya Jr. was the best match he’s seen in the tournament.

Next show is the 05/03 title match.

LuchaWorld has the last two Ras de Lonas.

SuperLuchas #411 has a spiffy new look. Inside is an interview with Hijo del Santo (in full Hijo del Santo, telling us he could’ve beaten Fishman or Villano III for their masks but he had too much respect for them to challenge them, fishing for someone to pay for a Hijo del Solitario mask match, explaining Super Astros set the stage for Sin Cara & Alberto del Rio)

3) Rey Cometa, Sagrado, Sangre Azteca vs Euforia, Pólvora, Vangelis
4) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Toscano vs Atlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr., Último Guerrero

That’s a match to challenge for Gallo’s title. Though I wonder what they’re going to do with Metal Blanco’s title if he’s not going to be around here (and probably isn’t losing to one who’s sticking around.) ACG Drago is not the AAA Drago.

CMLL (SAT) 05/21/2011 Arena Lopez Mateos

This is (also?) a Rey Escorpion benefit show, though he doesn’t wrestle on this one. Really stacked lineup, should be a fun card.

Goto v Guerrero, Forjando un Idolo, weather forecasts

CMLL (MON) 04/18/2011 Arena Puebla [Porra Fresa]
1) Lestat & Stigma b Centauro de Fuego & Siki Ozama Jr.
Lestat had a great dive on Centauro de Fuego to eliminated him in the final fall. Tecs took falls 1 and 3.
2) Bam Bam, Fantasy, Último Dragoncito b Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pierrothito
Tecs took falls 2 and 3, Dragoncito beating Pierrothito in the third, despite Tirantes refereeing.
3) Fuego b Ángel de Plata [Forjando un Idolo]
Fuego [3] submitted Angel de Plata [0] for his first win.
4) Magnus b Pólvora [Forjando un Idolo]
Mangus [3] looked better than last time here and the crowd was behind him. He dominated the match, but got distracted by Tirantes slow count and was rolled up by Polvora [6] for the pin.
5) Rush, Sagrado, Valiente b Shigeo Okumura, Virus, Yoshihashi
Tecnicos took 1 and 3, Sagrado beating Virus after Rush and Valiente dives.
6) Blue Panther, Máximo, Strong Man b Héctor Garza, Hirooki Goto, Último Guerrero
Maximo had an absurdly huge cape. Tecnicos took the first, and Goto and Guerrero had problems leading to the second fall loss (straight falls for the tecnicos.) Goto and UG fought after the match, with UG demanding a singles match.

CMLL (TUE) 04/19/2011 Arena Mexico [Record, CMLL]
1) Bronco & Inquisidor b Leono & Molotov
2) Sensei, Fuego, Metatrón DQ Dr. X, Loco Max, Nitro
Dr. X unmasked Fuego for the DQ.
3) Diamante b Hijo del Signo [Forjando un Idolo]
Diamante [6] pretty much clinches advancement. Signo is stuck on 3.
4) Hombre Bala Jr. b Puma King [Forjando un Idolo]
Puma [0] loses again, Hombre Bala picks up his first 3 points.
5) Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano b Delta, Metal Blanco, Valiente
Rey Bucanero wore a Doble T shirt and the rudos had a bulldog with them for no apparent reason. Ideas! Dog = win.
6) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b Blue Panther, Rush, Super Porky
Rudos took the first, tecnicos the second and the third.

Espiritu, who’s bald most of the time, grew enough hair to lose in an Nuevo Laredo cage match. Hombre sin Miedo was the winner.

Weather report for Pachuca: Partly sunny with a show or thunderstorm the afternoon. (Also, about 50 degrees warming then here.) AAA should get the taping in this time!

Shocker says he’ll be back in action at the end of May. He’s been out since December after tearing his pattelar tendon.

Taguchi defends his CMLL World Welterweight Championship versus Taichi on 04/29 at Hiroshima Green Arena. Also, Hirooki Goto rejoins NJPW on 05/03, so if CMLL is really doing the Ultimo Guerrero vs Goto singles match they’re teasing, it’s gotta be next Friday.

Forjando un Idolo, Super Junior

Forjando un Idolo

Forjando un Idolo will be giving out a bonus point after all. They’re using the poll on the Forjando un Idolo microsite to decide an extra point (one per week), and this week’s point has gone to Metal Blanco, his first point. For what it’s worth, the polling software – free! – does not appear to allow you to change the percentage of votes, but you can set it to allow people to vote from the same computer as many times as they’d like. Doesn’t seem like they’ve reset the votes from last week yet.

There’s no recap of the show, but the CMLL micro site says Polvora [6] beat Magnus [3] and Fuego [3] beat Angel de Plata [0]. That eliminates Angel de Plata, and makes the remaining Magnus vs Fuego a play in match.

Fuego vs Polvora‘s match is up.

Cesar talks about the concept.

Rob reviews all the first round matches.

Other news

In other tournaments, NJPW’s Best of Super Juniors was announced. It’s 18 people, the largest field ever, but only one CMLL luchador: Mascara Dorada. He’s in Block B, a rough road. Opponents include DDT’s Kota Ibushi, Taguchi, TAKA Michinoku, Great Sasuke and Jushin Liger. It’d be a significant upset for Dorada to beat any of them. The other Block B members are Daisuke Sasaki (indy/DDT), Gedo and KUSHIDA, who are at least close to even. 6th place would be a respectable finish.

The NJPW tour runs from 05/26 to 06/10, which means any CMLL Universal Tournament Block with Dorada/Taguchi/Liger couldn’t happen until June 17th. Today, Dorada & Tama Tonga (who’s King Haku’s son and would be interesting in CMLL for a bit) lost to Liger & Manabu Nakinishi, with the heavyweights being responsible in the finish.

Record’s story on the DTU show says Samurai del Sol was not seriously hurt from his dive gone bad.

CMLL (SUN) 04/24/2011 Arena Coliseo
1) Freesbe & Robin vs Apocalipsis & Ramstein
2) Enrique Vera Jr. & Hombre Bala Jr. vs Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II
3) Delta [3] vs Metal Blanco [1] [Forjando un Idolo]
4) Dragon Lee [0] vs Guerrero Maya Jr. [3] [Forjando un Idolo]
5) Ángel de Oro, Diamante, Rush vs El Alebrije, Misterioso Jr., Olímpico
6) Black Warrior, Metro, Palacio Negro vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero
7) Blue Panther vs Negro Casas

A seven match card! Don’t usually get that without a tournament, though I guess that’s sort of what’s going on.

Weird they’re doing the Tapatios tag match on the week where Dragon Lee has a singles match. Or maybe that’s just bad planning weird.

Dragon Lee wins a lot more in Arena Coliseo, perhaps that’ll help him here.

Fifth match is the Mexican Trios champions teaming up (for the first time since winning the titles) and the poster mentions it. Rush is one of those double champions who might need to lose a title. Misterioso is not an Invasor, but he is a rudo.

Palacio Negro in the semimain is surprising, but I guess they wanted him on the card and there’s no other place for him. Should be a fun time, but if there’s any match they could cut from TV, that actually would be it. (Or maybe Forjando matches will be web exclusive? A lot to air here.)

Not sure where Panther vs Negro will air, but I hope I get to see it.

Perro Aguayo, Diamante & Hijo del Signo pick up first wins

Perro Aguayo Jr. is doing well after surgery, but they won’t know until Wednesday if the tumor is cancerous.

Arturo Rivera is still in the hospital, dealing with a fever after two operations to remove a respiratory infection.

CMLL (MON) 04/11/2011 Arena Puebla [Cinco Radio, Fuego en el Ring]
1) Blue Center & Centella de Oro b Aguila Guerrera & Ares
Aguila Guerrera’s return to this building.
2) Artillero, Espiritu Maligno, Súper Comando b Höruz, Milenium, Robin
3) Hijo del Signo b Hombre Bala Jr. [Forjando un Idolo]
Signo submitted Hombra Bala to pick up his first 3 points. Bala has zero. Negro Casas was at ringside for both of these matches.
4) Diamante b Puma King [Forjando un Idolo]
Top rope plancha (450?) for the win. Diamante has 3 points, Puma King has 0.
5) Sagrado, Toscano, Valiente b Negro Casas, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
In the third fall, Negro beat Toscano, Valiente defeated Yoshihashi, and Sagrado clinched it with a casita on Okumura.
6) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Strong Man DQ El Alebrije, Hirooki Goto, Psicosis
Goto fouled Strong Man for the DQ. This was Dorada’s final match before going to Japan.

Shocker thinks this tournament is a marvelous idea. He would preferred to have both tecnicos and rudos in his group (so he didn’t get to pick his group.) Shocker’s mini, Shockercito, seems to have gone missing.

Tonight’s Arena Mexico main event is Ultimo Guerrero & Dragon Rojo defending their tag team championship against La Mascara & Sombra (though this article seems to think it’s Mascara Dorada in the match.) This is the end of the recent run of Fan Appreciation sparked title matches. All of them have seen the champions keep their titles, and I suspect the same here, though it’s not a sure thing.

Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., who had previously said he’d be out a year and then came back in two months, says the doctors were amazed at fast his body recovered, and lucha libre is the best medicine. Hmmm. You know, one of the things about WWE’s Edge retiring last night is he can actually afford to retire; unless he does silly things with his money, he should be living comfortable for the rest of his life. That’s not true around here much.

Somos Luchadors has new lucha libre regulations in Ensanda. These are well worth reading: there are items like “championship fights must be guaranteed to be pay and a half” and “you must wrestle on the mat for at least the first three minutes in the first fall.”

Rob picked the entire Forjando un Idolo. Two for two so far!

5) Delta, Toscano, Valiente vs Felino, Misterioso II, Shigeo Okumura
6) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Strong Man vs Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Volador Jr.

First two matches not listed on the poster; since it’s a Coliseo show, Ticketmaster doesn’t have the info either. (CMLL is now listed the entire month’s schedule on Ticketmaster’s site, though advance shows don’t have lineups.) This is the last FuI group, Delta, to kick off. I wonder if we’ll get a Shocker appearance to coach up his guys?

IWRG (SUN) 04/24/2011 Arena Naucalpan
1) Chiva Rayada I, Jennifer Blake, Sexy Lady vs Lolita, Ludark Shaitan, Zumbi
2) Extreme Tiger & Nicho el Millionario vs Halloween & Lizmark Jr. and Máscara Año 2000 Jr. & Veneno and Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. & Máscara Año 2000 Jr. and Crazy Boy & Violento Jack and El Brazo & Negro Navarro
3) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Bestia 666, Damián 666, X-Fly and Joe Lider, Silver King, Último Gladiador and Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro [cage, mask, hair]
4) Charly Manson & La Parka Jr. vs Cibernético & Electroshock [Relevos Increíbles]

Another Battle of the Promotions show. Cage match is the match they set up last Thursday; Los Maniacos don’t trust Joe Lider to keep up his end of the deal, if you weren’t already sure how that cage match was ending. (How they do determine who wins the trios titles? The second to last person to leave the cage is the best trio in IWRG?)

Chiva finally makes TV, just someone else’s TV (if that match airs on TV.)
