What happened:

Rush distracted referee Edgar from a Terrible foul on Caristico, which gave him the ring. Caristico set up a singles match with Terrible for next week.

Thoughts:

I thought the main event was the slightly better of the two very much Tuesday top trios matches because Los Ingobernables seemed to be trying more than usual. The semi-main was sillier and might have connected better with the tourists for that reason. Soberano doing maybe the only pescado of his life because he didn’t rust Bestia del Ring to catch anything bigger was amusing.

Hechicero led a really good Tuesday trios match. Everyone was looking a little bit motivated than usual. You don’t get many belly to belly suplexes out of Misterioso. Hechicero was the standout, making Blue Panther Jr. look great early on the mat and then being there for Audaz’s big moves. Audaz looked great racing around the ring and nailed the tricky headscissors good. This stood out among the usual CMLL b-show fare.

The lightning match was all about Marcela showing she could do anything Reina Isis could do better. Even when Isis got the better of Marcela on the outside, Marcela just took back over like nothing had happened when they got back in the ring. Isis did get in her finish (maybe so Marcela could kick out of it.) This wasn’t as one-sided as the Dalys/Metalica match but was just as much about giving the well-established veteran a meaningless win.

What happened:

Angel de Oro & Niebla Roja asked for a tag title match next week

Black Magic ducked Black Panther during their match and then unmasked him after his win.

Thoughts:

Angel de Oro & Niebla Roja winning was so straight forward in the main event that it didn’t feel like they accomplished something. It was as easy as a midcard trios though it was setting up a big match. That duo and the Guerreros should make for a good title match, but this match setting it up was brief and not particularly memorable.

The advantage of Flyer and Atlantis Jr. teaming with Papa Atlantis is the youngsters are energetic enough to carry 90% of the matches with him and he can be limited to a minute or two. Atlantis limp isn’t getting any better; he was one move and out in the third fall, then back in for another fall. The rest of this was the same Atlantis/Villano stuff they’ve done a lot of already.

Triton looked great on offense, with his moonsault and his rope climb guillotine legdrop looking fantastic. He was weaker at taking Polvora’s big moves, both feeling a little bit off. This otherwise fit the usual lightning match mold, with a few impressive dives and not much of a story.

Black Magic was better this week, but also had Black Panther literally pulling him thru the final cradle Eddie Guerrero style. His dive seemed like it was fine though he seemed quite nervous doing it. (It looked be than his silla.) One thing the Panther brothers have picked up from teaming with their father are effective ways to get the crowd back into the match, a necessary skill on Tuesday shows. I don’t remember Blue Panther Sr. ever having Blue Panther Jr.’s physique though.

The women’s match was worked as a better pace than usual, especially in the third fall. It still featured a lot that didn’t look or took a second try to latch on. They almost got the crowd into it with the near falls at the end, though there was way too much asking the referee to stop counting instead of breaking up pins.

What happened:

The main event was building towards a tag title match, though no one knew enough to make challenges yet.

Thoughts:

The main event was a by the number match with Mr. Niebla acting a bit weirder than usual. I don’t know that he was in no condition, but the sequence where he climbed to the top rope, basically crotched himself, got chopped to the mat and got pinned off that was weird. Someone needs to let the Guerreros know they don’t have to force in the double press slam in every match.

The semi-main had a few second of Hechicero/Stuka fun in an otherwise generic match. Hechicero trios matches are rarely good because he’s rarely in with anyone good, just immobile rudos. This featured Kraneo comedy and not much more.

Everyone was very excited when Blue Panther did his tope in the lighting match, mostly because it was six minutes in and something mildly exciting had occurred. The match was competent but not very exciting. It was more competent than the referee, who seemed to allow Felino say the match was over when he was applying his hold. Pompin was looking at Felino to give up when Felino had the hold applied, and Felino might have tricked him into calling the submission.

The tercera was an ordinary trios match with not much excitement on the rudo side. Audaz looked great in his 40-second run and he needs to get more than 40-second runs. Blue Panther Jr. having to shove Dark Magic in the direction he was supposed to go is not a great sign. Dark Magic will get to tell everyone for the rest of his life that he was a luchador for CMLL and have that’ll be a technically true but I’m not sure if it is true in spirit.

What happened:

This show will be remembered as the strangely long Tuesday show but we’re still not sure why. Dragon Lee beat Cavernario in their match but there’s nothing there more than the result. Polvora and Blue Panther Jr. exchanged mask match challenges but it didn’t seem entirely serious.

Thoughts:

Cavernario going to the top rope against Dragon Lee in the third fall of the main event seemed like a very bad sign, because it was only going to end with Cavernario getting double stomped and that often ends CMLL matches. I breathed a sigh of relief when Cavernario kicked out of that double stomp. Dragon Lee immediately gave him the desnucadora for the win. I shouldn’t have breathed. This is a good match where both men worked hard for the time that it feels mean to degenerate as not their best, but also it was very clearly not their best. They did better than most people would do in a thrown off singles match on an off night but Cavernario & Dragon Lee have raised the bar higher than that. I assume the show length caused them to go shorter than they would’ve, but I’m not sure of that. It would probably be good for us if they had the sense to not go all out on a Tuesday but it’s not quite as good for us.

Often the triple dive spot leads to the tecnicos winning a fall. In this semi-final, it led the tecnicos coming back in the ring, falling down, and immediately getting submitted. That doesn’t seem great. Seemed weird that Gran Guerrero was getting a pin on Caristico to win a match. In between was well-worked match that didn’t really peak but used the time the best of three long trios matches.

The fourth match went long, but it felt like a normal match worked at a slightly more leisurely pace. Angel de Oro, Niebla Roja, and Soberano still make a good trio and the Casas family worked well as opponents. Angel de Oro is getting a lot of screams. Tiger seemed to like working with new people and I appreciate the effort to start something with Soberano even after the match.

The Polvora trios match didn’t feel totally weird until the second fall. The first fall was long but in the way that some midcard matches just can randomly have long falls. By the second fall, there was brawling out to the crowd for a while for no perceptible reason. The reason so had to be stalling. After the match, they let Polvora talk, brawl, and talk more when they’re usually very quick to shut the mics off when things are going too long. Edgar didn’t try to cut it off either, which meant it the weird meandering promos were part of some of plan. The match itself didn’t seem like a plan, something that meandered with comebacks and endings coming with little setup. The whole match didn’t help anyone, but Dark Magic popping up on a stream for the first time in months to lay in some chokes was very much not great. He’s got the most robotic stomps I’ve ever seen and it has to be some kind of messed up stomp for me to notice how bad they are.

The second match was fine for who was involved. CMLL cameras are really good at shooting Super Astro Jr.’s reverse tope. This match also featured the worse version of the front cracker/wheelbarrow suplex spot I’ve seen. The rudos did seem to have teamwork spots, so I believe their desire to be a permeant trio is not just some random thought. It just doesn’t seem likely to happen.

What happened:

Esfinge is wearing Titan matching gear (or Titan’s actual gear) for who knows what reason.

The opener is the debut of Tigre Infante (Metalico) as a referee. By a remarkable coincidence, Arkalis happened to go in to a (fake) seizure after taking the Cholo Driver but Metalico was right on top of it and did all the proper medical procedures as if proving he was ready for his new role.

Thoughts:

The semi-main had the most life of any match on the show but it still left me wanting more. They’ve run this same formula too many times and it could use a different bit. Twenty years from now, we may still be wondering if Black Panther was a good wrestler or just a guy who can have hot runs in trios matches. There would seem to be plenty of chances for CMLL to determine this themselves but they have no interest in doing so. There is a trend with Blue Panther matches where he’s treated like a delirious old man who has somehow accidentally put into a wrestling match but it turns out he can fight well against every odds. This works great for the tourists who have no idea who this graying man is and are very impressed at what it turns out he can do. I know Blue Panther is Blue Panther and I would like to see him just be good the entire match instead of being crazy old man doing topes. I probably should accept that’s not really going to happen at this point.

The CMLL tecnicas winning the first fall is very inspiring, like the Washington Generals winning a quarter. You know it is still going to go bad for them, and it did, but there was a small moment of victory. No Dalys, same story. La Metailca and Avispa Dorada worked the best together of any pair here, especially in the first fall. It’d be interesting to see them get real time in a match. Jarochita’s chops are bad. The third fall was leading to a tecnica comeback that lasted for one move.

Thoughts:

I watched the trios matches and just have nothing to say about all of them. Audaz got to do one interesting spot in a match that was built around Kraneo being big. The main event was dominated by the rudos not doing much and the tecnicos didn’t really make up for in the third fall. CMLL not bothering to do a replacement feud is dispiriting. The fans seemed to be having fun at the show but this is not a necessary show for people who watch CMLL all the time.

Drone wanted to work a fast fluid match and Virus wanted to work slower with some counters. It didn’t mesh as nicely as I thought it might. Drone being way off on a rope flip moonsault and covering anyway was also not great. There are hints and bits of a good match here but it didn’t come together.
