CMLL FSE #70

You’ll have to excuse me, because I’m jumping out of order to get this one up ASAP. It was quite the remarkable show.

Leono/Mr. Mexico’s third fall was just about everything I thought it could be (though they weren’t just botching spots left and right) and entertainingly horrible by the end.

Maybe this is just one of those things where the customs are different in Mexico than what I expect from US style, but Mr. Mexico’s behavior in the closing moments of this match was picture perfect unhappy loser – making an obvious very casual cover after hitting your finisher because you know they’re kicking out and making it very clear you weren’t actually pinned at the finish are thing you do to show up the matchmakers and opposition. And yet, Mr. Mexico could not have put over Leono stronger after the match. I have no idea what the deal was here.

I also have no idea what was up with the editing. Every single fall in both matches was absolutely savaged by the editing. The opener would’ve been better served by a highlight package than what was shown here, with momentum change skipped or barely shown, and every fall cut down down to little more than the finishes. It was just as wretched for the Leono/Mr. Mexico, with at least one dive cut out, matches “starting” in unexplainable situations and the finishing sequence never show for sake of a replay.

In exchange for all of this, more pointless promos. It’s really nice Mephisto wants Negro Casas’ hair, but I really don’t care to hear about it unless they’re actually feuding and building to a hair match. Stop wasting my time.

This show was horrible and causes me to question why I recap all of these shows.

Leono must’ve been out of it in the third fall, because he was completely off for a whole sequence. Fabian really didn’t have that excuse.

The screwups kept going to the second matches first finish. I was sure it was Ephesto’s fault, but what do I know.

At least Mr. Mexico is aware he’s feuding with Leono, but it was a total nothing match. I don’t think this feud is getting Leono over, but I don’t know if they care all that much. I’d actually just like to skip ahead of to the hair match, get that one fall finish where Mr. Mexico powerbombs his opponent unnecessarily hard and then puts him in a submission while posing, and get the hair cut. That’s the best this feud can offer.

Main event killed some time.

If you’ve forgetten this show, and I recapped it two weeks ago so it’s long gone, let me show you all you need to remember.

Valiente’s probably going to have a far worse fall than that this day, but at least he knows how to save himself if things go wrong. I think most people just presume their dive is going to go perfect every single time and don’t practice dealing with how to turn when your feet hit the ropes on the way over or whatever (because how would you? I dunno)

The main event was a fine tease for a Black Warrior/Negro Casas match that never happened. How many ideas did they try out discard for the main event?

Friends don’t let friends go for moonsaults they can’t make:

I’m not sure if it was Sagrado’s fault or Felino’s fault, but I’m pretty sure it hurt a lot. Misterioso went down in the third fall, so this was about as ill-fated as it could get.

Opener was mostly unremarkable. You know, the thing about the Leono/Mexico feud is even if you’re think giving Leono a big win is a good idea, why would you think beating Mr. Mexico can give you that? He’s not credible on any level. My guess is FSE just asked CMLL to do some sort of program, and CMLL just picked two guys who wouldn’t be otherwise needed.
