Santo/Wagner/Park, Consejo vs Wolves/Tomahawk, Titan/Averno, Charly Manson

indy (SUN) 06/30/2013 Arena Solidaridad [KrisZ, LuchaMania]
1) Caballo Dorado, La Coronela, Solovino b Black Hanibbal, Destructor, Mini Hator
2) Atomo, Crazy Demon, Demonio del Caribe b Dark War, Norteño, Norteño Jr.
Demon used the ropes to win.
3) Ciber Payaso & Mortifero b Ángel o Demonio & Obett and Chamaco Gurrola & Galactar
Less extreme than you’d expect (maybe because of Santo?) Payaso used the ropes to get the pin.
4) Diluvio Negro II, Orquídea Negra, Silver Star b Koko Viper, Mongol Chino, Sergio Romo Jr.
Romo fouled Silver, Diluvio fouled Mongol, ref counted that second pin.
5) Trauma I & Trauma II b Cerebro Negro & Dr. Cerebro
Best match of the night. Trauma II beat Cerebro Negro with a Canadian Destroyer.
6) LA Park b El Hijo Del SantoDr. Wagner Jr.
Complete brawl, into the crowd and mark ripping. LA Park complained about Santo getting involved in a match with Wagner & Park before the match and warned him he’d pay if didn’t back out. Santo didn’t back out, and LA Park gave him a martinete. Wagner got the pin somehow. Santo was strechered and taken to the hospital. Park powerbombed Wagner thru a table after 10 more minutes for the win. Wagner was also strechered out, though not before LA Park mimed burying him.

The latest on the Hijo del Santo injury storyline is he says he went under surgery this week and will be back in the ring in September. Pretty good turn around on neck surgery to be back in two months. Despite this, his Record column is still coming out tomorrow. For his part, LA Park blames Santo for getting involved in his fight with Dr. Wagner Jr.  Park doesn’t try to pivot the feud to Park vs Santo, which is peculiar because Santo seems to be setting that up as the replacement match. Easiest explanation is a Santo/Park/Wagner/??? four way with the fourth guy losing their mask.  CFan Deportes uses the opportunity to write about famous martinetes in lucha libre.

FLM (SUN) 06/30/2013 Auditorio Siglo XXI, Yucatan, Merida [Estrellas del RingR de Rudo]
1) Angel Vengador & Torino b Mensajero del Diablo & Rebelde Punk
Announced match had been Fly Warrior, Shadow, Tornado (DF) vs Belial, Fly Metalik, Metaleon.
2) Ángel del Misterio, Niño Hamburguesa, Psico Kid b Dragosth, Golden, Juana La Loca
Psico Kid’s team represents ICHIBAN, the other team are members of Demencia Dorada. Gargola, Nino Hamburguesa and Dave the Clown dropped from the ICHIBAN side.
3) La Magnifica & La Sádica b Demasiado & Faby Apache
Demasiado replaced Keira. Magnifica was Sadica’s surprise partner. Juana La Loca distracted Demasiado for the loss.
4) Argenis, Fenix (AAA), Yuta b Argos, Crazy Boy, Pentagón Jr.
Nino Harmburgesa will be with Crazy Boy
5) Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Silver King, Texano Jr. b Davey Richards, Eddie Edwards, Tomahawk T.T.
Foreigners took fall 1, Consejo fall 2. Referee Copetes fouled the other referee (who was helping the foreigners) and helped the Consejo team win.

CMLL (TUE) 07/02/2013 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
1) Molotov & Oro Jr. b Apocalipsis & Camorra
2) Hijo del Signo, Nitro, Nosferatu b Hombre Bala Jr., Soberano Jr., Súper Halcón Jr.
Nitro replaced Disturbio. Rudos took 2/3, helped by a Soberano error.
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Sagrado, Tritón b Misterioso Jr., Puma, Sangre Azteca
Tecnicos took 2/3. Phantom Attack on Misterioso.
4) Virus b Bushiroad [lightning]
Virus won in six minutes and looked dominant.
5) Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Tiger b Fuego, Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr.
TRT took 1/3, won with a Tormento Guerrero.
6) Máscara Dorada, Titán, Valiente b Averno, Pierroth, Volador Jr.
Tecnicos took 1/3. Titan beat Averno again, and Averno finally conceded to a title match.

Averno accepted the challenge over on YouTube. Titan says he’s still the real champion.

CMLL (TUE) 07/02/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Esfinge & Smaker b Évola & Exterminador
Tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Artillero & Súper Comando b Leo & Sky Kid
DF rudos beat GDL tecnicos, taking falls 2/3.
3) Dalis la Caribeña, Goya Kong, Silueta DQ Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit, Zeuxis
Tecnicas took 1/3. Blanca dropkicked the ref by mistake. Goya & Blanca challenged each other post match.
4) Shocker DQ Mr. Águila
Aguila won the first with a moonsault, Shocker pinned him in the second, and Aguila tried to sneak in a foul on Shocker but was caught for the DQ.
5) La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush b Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero
Tecnicos took 2/3.

Princesa Blanca took Goya Kong’s mask, but is now stuck feuding with her for the rest of time. A genuine monkey’s paw situation.

CMLL has a press event Thursday at noon. It’s the usual bit of not announcing it publicly ahead of time, but bits and pieces leaked out.

  • The Infierno en el Ring cage match should be announced. We know the participants (the 10 guys in the cibernetico on Friday), and the only thing left is to say if it’ll be on 07/12 or 07/19.
  • Another major show will take place on Friday August 16, likely involving the same group of independent luchadors seen on the Arena Coliseo Anniversary show.
  • Marco Corleone teased a positive injury update which will be announced Thursday.
  • Titan vs Averno will definitely be spotlighted. Guerrero Maya plans on challenging for the Arena Coliseo tag team titles next Sunday, so maybe that’ll be officialized here. That show will probably also be an Arena Mexico one.
  • There should be updates on the En Busca de un Idolo tournament and CMLL’s recent adventures in Japan. It’s possible CMLL may mention their participation in the G1 tournament, since NJPW will be releasing the full list of participants in about 15 hours later.

There’s probably a bit more than that. It sure looks like there’s also a cage match coming in Puebla (on 07/14 or 07/21) and that’s something that should be stated here. Something spotlighting the Estetas makes sense.  Ideally, they’d go as far as announce the Anniversary show date as well.

AAA had a video interview with Electroshock last night, talking about how he got interested in lucha libre, the origin of his character and Charly Manson’s status.  One summary says Charly has still never been formerly sentenced and no one knows how long he’s in for.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

6) Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards vs Crazy Boy & Joe Lider and Hacker & Kaleth

One more DTU show, also supposed to be taped by TVC Deportes. Autolavado = car wash parking lot, but this setting looked great when they showed clips from the most recent DTU show here.

IWRG (SUN) 07/07/2013 Arena Naucalpan
1) Freelance & Galaxie vs Araña de Plata & Fulgor
2) Dinamic Black, Dr. Cerebro, Freeyser vs Apolo Estrada Jr., Oficial 911, Tomahawk
3) Astro Rey Jr. vs Imposible, Dragón Celestial [IWRG IC Light]
title is vacant, final survivors from a three way last week
4) Trauma I, Trauma II, Veneno vs Fuerza Guerrera, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., X-Fly
5) Negro Navarro vs Solar I [FMLL MASTER]
Negro is listed as champion

I’ve seen that match! It’s a good match.

indy (SUN) 07/07/2013 Arena Coliseo San Luis Potosi
1) Galactar Jr. & Vandor vs Metal & Neurosis
2) Dragon Fury, Magnifico (slp), Rey Deimante vs Gemelo I, Gemelo II, Judoka
3) Aster Boy, Meteoro (slp), Turbo Kid vs Cachorro, Kukuxklan, Mensajero
4) Divino, Faraon De La Meurte, Oro Azul vs Black Extreme, Drack Conde, Extrem Fly
5) Bogar vs Virus [CMLL SL]
Virus is champion. Fourth known defense.

For real. Could Bogar become the Super Lightweight champion of the world? He’s got more of a chance than you do (unless you’re Virus.) First known defense of this belt since last October.

CMLL (MON) 07/08/2013 Arena Puebla
1) Asturiano & Fresbee vs Blue Center & Espanto Jr.
2) Leono, Pegasso, Robin, Stigma, Tigre Rojo Jr. vs Disturbio, Espíritu Maligno, Inquisidor, Siki Ozama Jr., Skándalo
not listed as a cibernetico, but ten man tags usually are in CMLL.
3) Bushiroad, Diamante, Tritón vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
4) La Máscara, Stuka Jr., Titán vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión
5) Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Shocker vs Mr. Niebla, Pierroth, Último Guerrero

They teased Skandalo & Espiritu Mailgno vs Stigma this past Monday, so probably more of that here (and no new main event program until that’s resolved.)

CMLL (TUE) 07/09/2013 Arena Mexico
1) Molotov & Sensei vs Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
2) Dalis la Caribeña, Estrellita, Luna Mágica vs La Vaquerita, Tiffany, Zeuxis
3) Máscara Dorada, Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr. vs Namajague, Rey Bucanero, Tiger
4) Averno vs Titán [MEX WELTER]
Averno is champion. First defense.
5) Atlantis, Máximo, Thunder vs Mr. Niebla, Niebla Roja, Pierroth

If you go with the theory that Titan, La Mascara and Rush won the trios titles more by happening to be around the week CMLL decided they needed to do a trios change, then maybe it has little effect on the outcome here. Or maybe Averno just wins to keep the titles spread out. Should be really good either way, and the tercera does not look bad either. Namajague’s worked as a Terrible replacement before.

CMLL (TUE) 07/09/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Metatrón & Virgo vs Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno
2) Leo, Starman, Stigma vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Ráfaga, Skándalo
3) Goya Kong vs Princesa Blanca
4) Guerrero Maya Jr., Hijo del Fantasma, Super Porky vs Olímpico, Psicosis, Sangre Azteca
5) Mistico, Shocker, Valiente vs Felino, Mephisto, Volador Jr.

A show!

IWL (TUE) 07/30/2013 Arena Aficion
1) Lolita, Medics III, Payaso Terror, Peligro vs Pasion Kristal, Pentagón Jr., Perico, Sexy Lady
2) Arkanos, Kid Jaguar, Shadow vs Centinela, Medics 1, Quimico Jr.
3) Argenis, Drago (AAA), Fenix (AAA) vs Freelance, Pantera I, Suicida
4) Infierno Kid, Ojo Diabólico Jr., Último Vampiro vs Aeroboy, Cíclope, Drastik Boy
5) Carta Brava Jr. I, Cerebro Negro, Fantasma de la Ópera vs Loco Max, Tony Rivera, Zumbido and Black Terry, Dinamic Black, Dr. Cerebro
6) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Ángel o Demonio, León Rojo, Obett [IWL TRIOS]

Only 41 luchadors on this show, anorexic by IWL standards. IWL appears to only have one main event. Tercera could be good if given time (and everyone shows up, which is not always the case with the ex-IWRG trio.)

Atlantis/Sombra, Mil Mascaras stamp, DragonMania

CMLL (MON) 05/09/2011 Arena Puebla [Cinco Radio, Porra Fresa]
1) Black Tiger & Centella de Oro b Espiritu Maligno & King Jaguar
Tirantes, working here as usual, was slow counting the tenicos and didn’t want to raise their arms after the match.
2) Lestat, Metálico, Starman b Apocalipsis, Arissma, Inquisidor
Slowest match of the night.
3) La Comandante, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei b Dark Angel, Goya Kong, Lluvia
Rudas took 2 & 3.
4) Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano b La Máscara, Máscara Dorada, Máximo
Rudos took 1 and 3.
5) La Sombra, Rush, Tigre Rojo Jr. DQ Atlantis, Averno, Último Guerrero
Averno replaced Dragon Rojo, and young Tiger Rojo Jr. replaced Toscano (probably means it was a last minute switch.) Atlantis attacked Sombra as he walked into the ring and they feuded throughout. Rudos took the first, tecnicos face the second, Atlantis fouled Sombra in the third.

Mil Mascaras is getting his own stamp. The unveiling of the stamp was last night. El Hijo del Santo, who was on a stamp a few years ago. Black Terry Jr. has photos from the press conference, and there are more recaps here and here. It looks like there are only 3 designs; I want a thousand.

Mi Lucha Libre has a good interview with Fresero Jr. Fresero Sr. was a long time referee, first for UWA and later for AAA. His son explains that one time, attending the matches, he saw Abismo Negro give his father the Black Hammer and screamed at the rudo that he’d avenge his father. Later, he met Abismo Negro and took his lucha classes, and found out Abismo was actually a decent guy. Fresero Jr. actually grew up wanting to be a soccer player, and played for the second division Atlante squad before switching to lucha. Fresero started in the Arena Mexico school (maybe the underage class) before switching to IWRG.

The grand opening for Shocker‘s restaurant (Che Guapo) was yesterday. He’s kept busy while out of action.

Cesar points out AAA bringing in TNA guys isn’t quite consistent with Dorian’s talk about trying to keep out the foreigners from invading Mexican wrestling. The first flaw here is believing anything anyone says on the internet.

The WON talked about the new Hijo de Rey Misterio debuting in Tijuana on May 27. Dave often puts “other lucha”‘ items in the CMLL section, but someone misread that as Hijo de Rey Misterio joining CMLL on that date. That’s not what’s happening, it’s just an indy show.

In other news from the newsletter, the reason Charly Manson was able to do so much damage to the police officers is reportedly because he had stones in his hands. (Might as well use that for a finish.)

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

4) Black Tiger V vs Último Dragón [mask]

Lineup via Mask Mania!

Black Tiger has been haunting Ultimo Dragon for about a year, setting this up.

Someone should hook up Ultimo with some recent CMLL video, so he can find out Sangre’s a good guy now. The mystery man is “carrying on the legacy of Mistico”, so either Magnus or Mistico II (or both.)

Shuri is from Tajiri’s SMASH promotion. Too bad they couldn’t find a way to get Tajiri on the CMLL shows for old time’s sake.

3 more matches to be added, including the usual Dragon Rumble.

Guerrero Maya/photo by CMLL

CMLL (TUE) 05/03/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLL, Record]
***Fan Apperciation Day, May (TUE)***
1) Artillero & Súper Comando b Camaleón & Robin
2) Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito b Bam Bam, Mini Maximo, Pequeño Halcón
Pierrothito replaced Pequeno Nitro. Current champion Olimpico beat former champion Bam Bam.
3) Arkángel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Skándalo DQ Fuego, Pegasso, Rey Cometa
Dr. X was about to submit to the Fuego-lock, but the ref was distracted, so Dr. X tossed his mask to Fuego to draw the DQ.
4) Guerrero Maya Jr. b Metal Blanco [Forjando un Idolo, eightfinal]
Guerrero Maya advances! He took out Blanco with a double underhook piledriver (which was not called one, of course) and faces Angel de Oro on Friday.
5) Diamante, Metro, Sangre Azteca b Misterioso II, Raziel, Virus
Sangre Azteca beat his old friend Misterioso.
6) Atlantis, Héctor Garza, Mr. Niebla b Black Warrior, Máximo, Super Porky
Atlantis replaced Dragon Rojo, and got the win with a surprise small package on Porky.

CMLL already has video up of the tiebreaker match.

CMLL (TUE) 05/03/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) In Memoriam COR Javier Cruz Jr.
2) Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno b Evola & León Blanco
Rudo vs Rudo battle ended with Mr. Trueno eliminated but sneaking back in to foul Leon Blanco to set up the victory.
3) Metálico & Starman b Infierno & Malefico
Metalico replaced Maya, off in Arena Mexico.
4) Ángel de Oro, Delta, Magnus b Cancerbero, Loco Max, Pólvora
Loco Max replaced Euforia. As required, recap of Magnus match points out he’s not very good.
5) Mr. Águila, Olímpico, Psicosis b La Sombra, Rush, Toscano
Psicosis beat Rush with some illicit help from Olimpico. Psicosis and Rush agreed to a title match next week.

I would describe Psicosis’ chances of defeating Rush as “microscopic”, but maybe I’m overstating them. Turnout for this show was said to be poor, which is not surprising with the Invasors on top, but doesn’t say much for Sombra or Rush.

Charly Manson was released on bail last night. There’s not much information; Charly’s brother thanks the AAA and Electroshock (who is also Charly’s brother) and says Charly is well. No info about how Charly got bail or if this means the case against him has changed. Charly’s still not publicly explained his side of the story. Charly’s associate seems to have disappeared from this story. It would not be a surprise if Charly just started appearing back on AAA shows while everyone avoided talking about that situation.

Perros del Mal announced a May 29th TV taping in Mexico City with Los Perros vs Psycho Circus, hairs vs masks. AAA’s under the impression that they’re also doing this match sometime this year, which indicates there’s an out ocming. The specific Perros del Mal included are not named, which is probably really important. They also imply it’s one side losing, but it could just be one person. But who? WHO?

Konnan was on Tercera Caida last night. Retro80s90s posted video: part 1, part 2, part 3. A lot of stuff came up that’s come up before (El Hijo del Santo! CMLL & AAA!) but Konnan did drop the news that AAA would be starting a tournament for AAA trios titles. (Dr. Cerebro, Cerbero Negro, Eterno were mentions as IWRG trio participating – that was the IWRG team that one last time AAA taped in Arena Naucalpan.) Depending on how soon this starts, that could be another match for TripleMania. AAA really doesn’t need any titles when they’re about to hit a year since the Cruiserweight title has been defended, but luchadors love title belts.

The annual Mexico City Lucha Libre La Experiencia Expo will be July 23rd and July 24th. Only two days this year (no more Friday.)

Hernandez is listed on a Nuevo Laredo card next week. Might just be for the show.

Pirata Morgan wants a retirement match with Negro Navarro, “not just a retirement speech, but I want Navarro to disappear forever from wrestling.” He also wants the Hijo del Pirata/Trauma I feud to finish.

Cesar begins a list of the Three Biggest Moments of The First Third of 2011 in CMLL with the Gen 2011 vs Opening Match Types, even while noting there was no real story to begin this feud or any explanation why the Gen 2011 guys are all actually teaming up. Since this feud continue to go on past the May Fan Appreciation shows, Cesar notes this feud could be heading to a major show in June (like the midcarder cage match last year, but with a much more focused build.)

Box Y Lucha has a bunch of video interviews: Poseidon, Star Fire (those two are married), Xena, and Piel Roja (same with those two.)

Rob reviews week 2 and week 3 of Forjando un Idolo.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Dorada still getting wins when it doesn’t matter is a good sign. The only pinfall he personally took on the tour was in the title match.

Fuego & Polvora advance, Charly Manson

walking the dog

CMLL (TUE) 04/26/2011 Arena Mexico [Record (3-4), Record (2, 5-6), CMLL]
1) Bengala & Cancerbero DQ Apocalipsis & Zayco
Cancerbero replaced Trueno. That ended poorly for Bengala, Cancerbero turning on him.
2) Estrellita, Princesa Blanca, Tiffany b Dark Angel, Estrella Mágica, Luna Mágica
3) Pólvora b Ángel de Plata [Forjando un Idolo]
Polvora [9] joins Delta as clean sweeping his group. Angel de Plata [0] was cut down with a dropkick for the loss.
4) Fuego b Magnus [Forjando un Idolo]
Magnus [3] dominated the match, but Fuego [6] caught him in a submission for the win. Fuego advances.
5) Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro, Sangre Azteca DQ Ephesto, Euforia, Raziel
Straight fall win for the tecnicos. Raziel fouled Sangre in the second.
6) Blue Panther, Máximo, Super Porky b Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano
Tecnicos took the last two falls.

CMLL’s slowed down on the Magnus push. He’s not appearing in Mexico City outside of this tournament and the Gran Alternativa. (He’s only barely in the Gen11 vs veterans feud.) The plan all along was to introduce him and then have him get ring work off TV without exposing him; they still ended up exposing him, but I think they know enough not to push him thru the tournament. CMLL has known enough to have Magnus no longer wear the white Mistico-like outfit (just pink) and he’s no longer using La Mistica. I don’t think they’ve given up on him, but they’ve give on him being a star in the next five minutes.

The reason Charly Manson was denied bail is because his medium sentence – not the maximum, but close to the average – is over five years in jail, which makes it a felony offense, and that automatically triggers no bail. Yesterday’s run of articles have the police accusing Charly of using a wrestling move in the fight, “La Dormilona”, which normally refers to a head to head tope. I’m thinking they actually just mean a headbutt. KrisZ has the complete police report, which notes the maximum penalty is 8 to 10 years and it was actually four officers which eventually got in the fight. The latest articles mention Charly is also accused of stealing a radio, which may start to explain why the conversation with the police officers turned into a fight.

AAA’s reaction, as illuminated by Mi Lucha Libre, is we (and they) should wait to believe anything until Charly gives his side of the story. There’s also a sentiment that the police are not to be trusted, but Charly’s still well screwed if that was the case.

CMLL’s report on the last round of Group Charly matches sidesteps the question of who’s the second luchador to advance entirely. Hmmm. It’d actually be a  more confusing situation without the bonus points, since Dragon Lee, Metal Blanco and Guerrero Maya each have one win, and they can’t have known who would’ve gotten those bonus points when they were planning the tournament. Assuming the poll is legit.

a

Charly Manson in jail, Forjando un Idolo, Arturo Rivera, Rey Escorpion?

Charly Manson

Charly Manson will be in jail until his trial starts. He was brought in a front of a judge to be officially charged for attacking three police officers, aggravated assault, and attacking authority figures. He was not given the option to meet bail, will be in prison for now, and could face up to 15 years in prison (thanks Kris). It may be a long time before we see him again.

No word on his assistant, Adrian Lopez Reyes. He’s listed as 33 years old in this article. I suspect he’s a luchador, because luchadors tend to hang with their own, but no one’s mentioned any other identity. Edit: Apolo Valdes says Adrian Lopez Reyes is not a luchador.

The two police officers attacked are still in the hospital. One was in intensive care with a fractured skull, the other underwent nose surgery and a neck strain. That one may leave the hospital this week, the other one is unclear. A police spokesman explained the police officers were not as well trained in melee combat as the wrestlers, which is why they got the worst of the fight. It doesn’t quite fit with the idea that Charly & friend being very drunk; if you read thru comments on at least one article, it’s being alleged that Charly was under the influence of substances other than alcohol. The articles seem to imply Charly thought the police officers had something to do with his car’s disappearance – this is not unthinkable in Mexico – but it’s completely unclear if there’s any validity to this or if it was just the thought processes of a person under the influence.

Last night, AAA took the stance of being against violence outside wrestling (bold) but also said they’d let the legal process play out before doing anything with Charly. Charly’s scheduled for tomorrow’s TV taping, and probably was on the lineup for Saturday’s show. If he’s in jail, it’s not like they can use him regardless, but I don’t know how AAA doesn’t just fire him right now and make a public show of distancing themselves from him. It’s not like they can’t pick him up later if stories change (he’s got no other options), and AAA needs to show that they’re not running a promotion full of scoundrels. I’m sure people in the know could probably clue me in plenty of scandals that got quieted up in time, but AAA ones seems to always find the press: Charly and Metal’s DUI this year, Octagon’s DUI and the Billy/Mesais/Hijo de Tirantes substance fueled fight with a taxi driver in years past are the ones I can easily remember and I may be missing something. If someone (who mattered) started putting these things together, it’s going to hurt AAA’s image when it comes to sponsors and such. Charly was brought back to AAA as a favor to Cibernetico, and I’m sure Cibernetico doesn’t want to see his friend abandoned at a time like this, but they do have to consider everyone else working at the company who did not (allegedly) break a police officer’s skull and shouldn’t have to pay any part of the price for it.

CMLL (MON) 04/25/2011 Arena Puebla [Cinco Radio]
3) Metal Blanco b Dragon Lee [Forjando un Idolo]
Metal Blanco [4] beat Dragon Lee [3]. Dragon Lee was stretchered out.
4) Delta b Guerrero Maya Jr. [Forjando un Idolo]
Delta [9] sweeps the group. Maya is at 4 points.
5) Shigeo Okumura, Virus, Yoshihashi b Rush, Sagrado, Valiente
6) Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, La Sombra ?? Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero
No finish reported. Unknown if Mr. Niebla appeared.
7) Último Guerrero b Hirooki Goto
UG won the first, Goto pinned him with his feet on the ropes (ignored by Tirantes) and UG returned the favor (and Tirantes ignored it again) for the win.

Looking forward to Porra Fresa’s recap.

CMLL confirmed Maya won the second bonus point yesterday, which leads the group standings as
9 Delta
4 Guerrero Maya Jr.
4 Metal Blanco
3 Dragon Lee

The new Guerrero Maya Jr. profile page says he’s advanced and the Metal Blanco profile page says he’s eliminated. That would make sense with Maya beating Metal Blanco earlier in their head to head match. However, there’s still one more bonus point, which would seem to possibly give Blanco the playoff birth. Or, Dragon Lee could win the bonus point and confuse this more.

Tonight’s matches in Group Delta are Fuego vs Magnus and Angel de Plata vs Polvora. The first one is the one that matters; winner advances, loser is out, tie keeps them tied.

Arturo Rivera has left intensive care and is recovering. It’s believed that he’ll eventually be able to return to announcing.

The newest Luchas 2000 teases a new Invasor, which seems like a pointless idea at the moment, but let’s go with it. The luchador is wearing a combo Histeria/Psicsois’ mask. Black Abyss is still hanging around somewhere, waiting to get a new gimmick and a spot here, but the preview mentions international experience. That would seem to point to Durango Kid, who hasn’t been seen under that name in two months. He’s also Histeria’s brother, which makes the partnership obvious.

Speaking of magazines, what do you make of this tweet? I presume we shouldn’t get too attached the box y lucha forum.

Black Terry Jr. has video of Black Terry, Alan Extreme, Dinamic Black vs Bombero Infernal, Comando Negro, Hijo del Diablo: fall 1, fall 2, fall 3

Magnus says his cousin Sin Cara gave him some lessons, which is he has a similar style, but he’s never mentioned the relationship because he feels it’s important to make his own name. Magnus’ father told him he’ll have to work twice as hard to overcome the detractors. Magnus really should take over CMLL booking today, he’ s got a much better handle on it than the people who put him on TV.

Crazy Boy, who’s been missing for the a while, says he underwent knee surgery.

All the mentions of Io Shirai coming in for the Lucha Fan Fest seem to miss that she was actually in Mexico, last year, on TV quite a few times. I don’t think it’s people keeping (very obvious non-)secrets, it’s more of a sign about how little most people seem to pay attention to AAA’s TV.

CMLL in NJPW
04/26: Mascara Dorada (O) & No Limit beat Jushin Liger (X) & Bad Intentions

AAA in AJPW
04/26: Jr. Tag League: Super Crazy (O) & BUSHI [6] b Masanobu Fuchi & Tsuyoshi Kikuchi (X) [4]
Crazy and Bushi are now in 4th, 2 points out of the lead.

CMLL in REINA
Matches announced for the joshi promotion’s (sort of) debut show on 05/08
4) Takako Inoue, Silueta vs Hiroyo Matsumoto & Tomoka Nakagawa
5) Yumiko Hotta & Manami Toyota vs Hailey Hatred & Seuxis
6) Ayumi Kurihara vs Mima Shimoda – winner gets a shot the CMLL Women’s title
8) Amapola vs Marcela [CMLL WOMEN] – assuming Amapola is still champ (she will be)

Suspect they’re setting up Ayumi vs Amapola, which could be great.

Lineups

CMLL UWE (SAT) 04/30/2011 Arena Lopez Matoes
1) Ángel de la Noche, Hormiga Atomica, Rey Krystal vs Halcon Diabolico I, Halcon Diabolico II, Ronny Ventura
2) Gallo Tapado Jr., Robin Maravilla, Sadico vs Hombre sin Rostro, Kilvan, Yakuza
3) Rey Krymen, Sepulturero I, Terry 2000 vs Cerbero Maligno, Epitafio, Herejia
4) Chucho el Roto, Iron Love, Solar I vs Negro Navarro, Trauma I, Trauma II
5) Atlantis, Escorpion, Último Guerrero vs Ray Mendoza Jr., Scorpio Jr., Villano IV

Kid’s Day show. That main event is extra interesting, because Scorpion Jr. has said he’s not happy about Escorpion using that name. Also, the show will feature a Michael Jackson impersonator.

CMLL (SUN) 05/01/2011 Arena Coliseo
1) Camaleón & Freesbe vs Bronco & Disturbio
2) Guerrero Maya Jr., Hombre Bala Jr., Stuka Jr. vs Rayo Tapatío I, Rayo Tapatío II, Virus
3) Rey Escorpion vs Palacio Negro [Forjando un Idolo]
4) Ángel de Oro vs Rey Cometa [Forjando un Idolo]
5) Diamante, Metro, Rush vs El Alebrije, Misterioso Jr., Olímpico
6) Black Warrior, Blue Panther, La Sombra vs Atlantis, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr.

Further complicating the name issue is Escorpion appears to be switching to “Rey Escorpion”. Alexis used the name in his last Forjando un Idolo match, and it’s on the poster here. There is another Rey Escorpion around El Paso – I believe that was the one who was in CHIKARA for a while – but I suspect it’s not a concern here. As for the tournament, the Palacio Negro vs Rey Escorpion match is the critical one; winner advances, loser is out, and a draw is confusing.

Semimain is a pseudo-rematch from this week, Metro replacing Angel de Oro since he’s otherwise needed. The Negro Casas vs Blue Panther bit is dropped here, so it’ll be a Mexican Trios Title match next week for the Fan Appreciation show. (Which also means Angel de Oro’s tournament match can’t take place next Sunday.)

Stuka & Virus in the second match is so odd, but there’s no other place with every other angle they’ve got running here and I’d guess someone wanted to just give them a match, so they and Maya got drafted in the Gen2011 vs Vets feud for a night. I actually have a record of Stuka & Tigre Blanco facing the Tapatios in 2005, but no results was found. Virus actually teamed up with the Tapatios back in 2006 in Arena Neza, and faced them in 2000 Arena Coliseo Tag Team Tournament. (Fugaz was Virus’ partner.)

CMLL (SUN) 05/01/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) ?
2) ?
3) Astro Boy & Tigre Blanco vs Mortiz & Semental
4) Lluvia, Luna Mágica, Marcela vs Estrellita, Princesa Sujei, Tiffany
5) Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano vs Máximo, Toscano, Valiente

Maybe they’re actually sticking with the new trio? Nah.

Panther vs Casas in a hair match, Charly Manson vs 2 police officers

CMLL (SUN) 04/24/2011 Arena Coliseo [Cesar, CMLL]
1) Apocalipsis & RamsteinFreesbe & Robin
Ramstein beat Freesbe with a Michinoku Driver and may have KOed him.
2) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío IIEnrique Vera Jr. & Hombre Bala Jr.
Straight win for the vets: clean win in fall 1, Rayos pulling an illegal switch in the second. Bala wants a mask vs mask match.
3) Guerrero Maya Jr.Dragon Lee [Forjando un Idolo]
Sounds like Dragon Lee blew a shooting star press near the finish. Might have supposed to be the finish, because Lee won with another top rope move soon after. Both have 3 points, and Maya was reported to be injured coming out of the match. Both guys have 3 points at the moment, but Maya will pick up this week’s bonus point – he’s way ahead – and be up to 4. That point might be crucial. Los Rayo Tapatios attacked Dragon lee after the match, but Hombre Bala made the save and they teased that tag match again.
4) DeltaMetal Blanco [Forjando un Idolo]
Delta submitted Metal Blanco. Delta [6] is in control of the group. Blanco [1] isn’t out because of that bonus point, but needs a lot of help.
5) El Alebrije, Misterioso Jr., OlímpicoÁngel de Oro, Diamante, Rush
Olimpico reversed a roll up and uses the rope to pin Rush. Diamante was stretched out after a dive.
6) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Rey BucaneroBlack Warrior, Metro, Palacio Negro
Pesta Negra took the last two falls. Mr. Niebla did appear.
7) Blue PantherNegro Casas
Panther took falls and 1/3 for the win. The two appeared to agree to a hair vs hair match.

Group Charly standings
6 Delta
4 Maya
3 Lee
1 Blanco

tomorrow in Puebla, assuming Maya gets the second bonus point (which seems to be certain)

– Delta advances with a win or a draw

– Guerrero Maya Jr. advances with a win or a draw and a Dragon Lee loss.

– Dragon Lee advances with a win and a Maya draw/loss. If Maya wins and Dragon Lee wins, Delta & Dragon Lee are tied for the last spot, pending the third vote point.

– Metal Blanco would need a win, another bonus point, Delta & Maya going to draw, and CMLL figuring out another tie breaker. So he’s probably out.

Record reports Charly Manson was arrested early Saturday morning. The story goes Charly and “his assistant”, Adrian Lopez Reyes, were looking for Charly’s car and could not find it where it had been parked. They went to two “auxiliary police” to ask for help, and somehow ended up in a fight with the police officers. A third policeman showed up as a backup, and “in his excitement”, shot Adrian Lopez Reyes in the leg. Charly was taken to jail, Lopez Reyes was taken to one hospital, and the two police officers were taken to another hospital. Charly is scheduled on a bunch of shows this upcoming week, including this Wednesday’s AAA TV taping and tonight’s IWRG show. No word if he’s been released.

Manny Guzman, leader of the National Lucha Libre Union in the early 90s (and probably before) passed away Saturday. Guzman’s run as leader is probably best remembered for the 1991 lucha libre strike, where wrestlers refused to work EMLL/CMLL shows after Televisa started airing Friday night Arena Mexico shows in Mexico City. Guzman, and others in the organization, feared more television would hurt the industry and cost many jobs, because people wouldn’t pay to see something they could watch on TV for free. The strike was eventually settled, in part, by also getting UWA/LLI a television slot (on a weaker network.) UWA wasn’t as focused by the bias, and a pre-existing feeling that the union favored the older UWA luchadors over the CMLL guys was increased by the result. The union’s power was broken by the formation of AAA, who formed their own separate union and sped up the (inevitable) decline of UWA. CMLL formed their own in house union in 1994 (run by Brazo de Oro the last we heard) and the old one hasn’t been heard from since.

In the undercard of an AAA spot show at Arena Neza, Mike Segura (as local talent, not part of AAA) beat Neza Kid in a bloody match. They’ve been feuding for a while, and agreed to a mask vs hair match for the next show (not sure of a date.) Neza Kid is very obviously another wrestlers associated with IWRG though not active there now; he hasn’t bothered to cover up his identifiable shoulder tattoo.

Porra Fresa has a good interview with Puebla’s Lestat. Yes, Jeff Hardy is one of his favorite wrestlers. (Also, Rey Misterio and Super Crazy.)
