AAA #628 (06/09)

taped 05/12

I would’ve really liked to recap the episode before this one, but my TiVo choked on all three recordings. I think I MAYBE could’ve patched something together, but I chose not to fight the fight.

It was a bad call – that episode had to be better than this. The local match opener, which wasn’t more than a six minute basic match, seemed better than most the regular stuff on this show.

Guys were off in the Air Force atomicos – wonder how bad the finish went for Calo that we couldn’t see it, and I have to go back and check my notes to see what the deal was with Super Fly. I’m sure the previous match was better.

Kenzo vs Chessman was everyone Hell Brothers/Legion match we’ve seen for the last month, with Mesias doing Konnan’s interference spots so Konnan could run(/limp)-in himself

Can’t get into the Mexican Powers/Dark Family stuff. Overturned finish only works because it was specified to be a title match – otherwise, the same stuff happened plenty times on this show.

Tecnicos/Vipers was eh. Copetes ruins matches for me, since he’s gotta get involved with the finish if the rudos need it or not, so you know it’s going to be a wild exception if the tecnicos win. Super Astro could’ve been better – I think I remember him being better live.

Head Hunter/Sean Waltman vs Zorro/Cibernetico turned into a US tag for half of it, and so it was weirdly interesting to see if the sudden change in psychology would get over. (No!) Hopefully either “Six Pack” (the guy who’s wearing ab covering gear) watches some of the other matches at the show and gets a sense of what they’re doing, or everyone else adjusts to him. Much like Oz’s notCanadian Destroyer and the non-reaction to it, the point is to do stuff that’ll get over to the crowd, not to just do stuff that’s over with you.

AAA #626

aired in US 05/26, taped 04/27

This felt like a big step towards a US setup, what with the backstage set for promos and tons of them, and people running into other people backstage. I didn’t mention this in the recap, but there was a lot of teasing what’s to come – but they don’t do the big graphics for matchup.

I had no use for the incredibles match, assuming it even was one, or the ladders match. The cage match was booked out well, but it wasn’t much action at times, it seemed. Maybe I’m overly harsh there. The opening gauntlet match was the best thing, but I was so annoyed with Antifaz by the end of that fall.

AAA #625

taped 04/20/07, aired 05/19/07

I’d like to just forget this taping and give them the benefit of the doubt because of the rain. The rain did lead to a great Joe Lider hilarious blown spot/near death experience, so I can’t be angry at the rain. This show just didn’t have much for me.

To recap
2nd match: Runs in mean a DQ (because that’s the plot point)
3rd match: Runs in mean no DQ (because that’s the plot point)

Had to be the same guy booking both matches, so…I dunno. (Maybe it’s the amount of people? Maybe it’s the time they hang around? Maybe there are very specific DQ rules?) I guess they figure the people will accept it. It’s awful dumb to me.

AAA #622 (04/29)

taped 03/25

They probably did one too many wacky spots in Reina de Reinas, but at least they were trying to do something this year, instead of a time killing battle royal. Not that I mind seeing Lady Rabibit, but I kinda don’t get the point of bringing in women for this match (and the cibernetico CMLL did) – everyone knows the people in for one night are not only going to lose, but going to lose quickly, and the match doesn’t mean more for including 14 or 16 women instead of the 10 or 12 who might matter a little bit. Here, at least the amount of people allowed to stretch comedy spots to ludicrous degrees.

I like Tiffany winning it, not because it’s going to go anywhere, but because Tiffany’s gotta be on TV at least every other week by law (it seems), so at least the win will be brought up again.

Main event was all kinds of dumb, but what did I expect? All kinds of dumb.

I’m done with 20 minute Guapo matches that aren’t mostly repeats with a screwjob ending leading nowhere. Did we ever get the Mascot Tag match out of this? I believe no.

AAA #623 (05/05/07)

taped 04/01

So I wrote this blurb, and the blurbs for the other three recaps which I haven’t linked to yet for god knows what reason, and left them in an open window overnight without saving it, and of course Windows feels the need to install updates and reboot my computer.

The paintball stuff was actually disappointing, because they never actually played paintball against each other, you know? Maybe they’ll show that next week.

Let’s go over the scorecard here, and help me figure this one out

Gran Apache: Rudo
Fabi Apache: Ruda? She’s pretty happy with taking free wins, and was ruda against the Morenos.
Billy Boy: Tecnico? I’m sure he’s supposed to be sympathetic, but he’s coming off as a dope
Sexi Star: Would seem to be tecnica, but was hanging out with the rudas at Reina de Reinas, and turned on Billy here.
Barrio Boys: Rudos?

The only good person in this group is totally unlikable. Something went off the rails here.

My first guess is they cut out Cibernetico’s response to Konnan of burying Nicho because he might be back, but I think you’d leave it on in that case, so you’d have something to work off when he did return. I’m not sure what was going on, because you need to have a payoff for the first 90 minutes angle. Maybe this was explained away in commentary?

I don’t understand how anyone is supposed to have ever believed Zorro was going to turn. Missing something here.
