This one covers the first half of Fantastica Mania, and I watched a DTU show and I watched an IWRG show. And this is the week with the Vikingo/Aeroboy/Aramis/Taurus, which should probably be on this list.

This is up a little bit quicker this week. Maybe I should make it slower to wait for the main shows to turn up on YouTube? I dunno.

The Tryout show seems to have made my rotation, but we’ll see if I can stick with it once the Fantastica Mania avalanche begins next week.

I can see people liking the AAA opner more than the CMLL match, but the CMLL match trios was just a delight. It takes a lot for me to bother to call a match bad and I’m trying to give the Tryout matches some leeway because of what they are, but those matches were so bad. (They’re not rookies either.)

my current problems (just as it correspond to these posts, not the many more in life in general)

• I need to actually post these
• I really need to write down ratings on Tuesday or I’ll forget. Or I need to switch days
• The 3 shows I’m getting in regularly are CMLL Friday, AAA, and CMLL Tuesday. I’d like to get in a fourth. GDL doesn’t work out all the time because I’m writing, most of the indie stuff Mas Lucha is posting isn’t interesting to me (and often feels very dated) – maybe it’s the IWRG tryout show for now? I’ve thrown that in for this week, but that doesn’t work unless I wait until after Tryout to air to post this. I dunno.

The Volcano/Kraneo trios match from last Friday was a lot of fun too, could go higher on that. The CMLL minis are a baseline ‘good’ right now. I was probably kind to the lumberjack match.

I did finally add the 2023 MOTYC page.

Dave Meltzer raved about the Reyes del Aire, to the point where I’m not sure we saw the same match. or maybe my hopes were a lot different. Given the names involved, my hopes were set high on an ending with Soberano or Mistico or Panterita involved. Maybe missing out on that wasn’t as big a deal if you just didn’t have expectations. I liked Suicida/Virus the best of the Friday matches. What we got instead was fine but cold. Might be overrating Stigma/Virus, might be underrating the Tuesday atomicos.

I also watched the 01/14 INNOVA @ Arena Lopez Mateos show, which Mas Lucha posted last week. There’s nothing there I’d strongly recommend; it was fine, crowd seemed to enjoy it, I didn’t get it too much, and it felt fairly repetitive at time. Golden Jr. doing as many Komander spots as possible was interesting. Golden Girl and Princesa Azul stood out a bit in the women’s match, but I’d like to see them in a real match at some point. Hijo del Santo being in the main event was the reason to watch it, but he’s just in touring exhibition match mode and I don’t know if we’re ever going to see him go deeper than that – unless it’s part of a Cassandro movie. The ‘real’ stuff is just going to be the same mat work, gets beat up, does the corner dive, and get the big win. He doesn’t really need to break that formula, the crowd popped big when he just did the tijeras from the mat, and for the dive – the formula works. It’s was more interesting to see who Santo trusts to work with – a lot of Hijo del Fishman and some Herodes Jr.
