Announcers are at four this week. As it turns out, today is a great show – like all of them!
Match 1: Metatrón & Robin vs Disturbio & Zayco
Arena Mexico, 10/22/2013
Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 13:37
Rating: ok
Notes: Referee is Tigre Hispano.
1: Pairs are Metatron/Zayco and Robin/Zavala, neither of which are that noteworthy. Second second thru leads to the finish as always. Crowd is louder than in recent weeks.
2: Robin gets a showcase. Disturbio takes over with a back elbow on Metatron, and not a particular good one. It's okay, but it's a back elbow. Zayco attacks Robin's legs, just for something to do. Corner clotheslines on Metatron lead to Disturbio's usual backbreaker for the fall.
3: Rudos are more exciting on offense this fall. Disturbio beats up Robin at ringside, and drives two knees into Metatron's chest in the corner. Rudos keep doing corner whips until someone finally moves, as required. Tecnicos rally and win within seconds. Metatron clearly plans on beating Zayco with a huracanrana, but Zayco determine it's so bad that he kicks out at 1. He's right. Cradle neckbreaker does it instead.
Match 2: Aéreo, Fantasy, Stukita vs Mercurio, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
Arena Mexico, 10/22/2013
Winner: técnicos (2-0)
Match Time: 10:06
Rating: below average/ok
Notes: Referee is Tirantes.
1: Pairs are Fantasy/Mercurio, Warrior/Stukita and Aereo/Fantasy. Warrior is in goof mode. Stukita does the greatest/sillies drop downs ever, like mini torpedo splashes. Flapjack escape armdrag sends Warrior out, and Stukita gets in his spinaroonie. Karla is very impressed, though the other announcers talk right over her. Aereo doesn’t get in much before Warrior breaks it up. Fantasy dropkicks him, and headscissors Warrior out and handspring fakes the dive. Mercurio dropkicks Fantasy in something half missed by a camera switch. Stukita flips Mercurio with a dropkick, fireman's drops him in the corner and does three straight climbing moonsaults That's not enough – bridging double armbar for the submission. Aereo gets Pierroth at almost the same time, though the idea of Aereo suplexing the much bigger Pierrothito is odd.
Warrior runs all the way backstage to get away from Fantasy.
2: Pierrothito knocks down Stukita and stomps him, as good a way as any. Pierrothito drags Stukita around by his mask, and slams him to set up a Warrior slingshot elbow drop. Warrior slaps Stukita into the ropes, them Mercurio flapjacks and dropkicks Stukita out. Mercurio chops Aereo around. Pierrothito takes over, going after Aereo's arm, then dropping him with the inverted powerslam. Warrior slides in and takes out Fantasy's legs. Pierroth pulls Fantasy around by the mask, but fantasy breaks free and slaps him back. Pierroth puts Fantasy down with a chop. All three rudos in for a whip to set up a double back elbow. Mercurio holds Fantasy for chops form the others. Rudos off the ropes, técnicos pull them out and brawl while Fantasy sheds Mercurio. Fantasy has trouble with a handspring armdrag on Mercurio, but still headscissors him out chases Mercurio around. Stukita and Pierrothito in, Stukita pulls off the running front flip and a springboard tope to the head. Stukita wants to pick up Pierrothito for more, but Pierroth stays down and Stukita covers for two. Pierrothito and slapping and chopping Stukita into the corner. Corner whip, reverses, Stukita charges in, Pierrothito tosses him to the apron, Punch blocked, Stukita chops Pierrothito back, Pierrothito falls down, Stukita torpedo splash misses, though it's tough to tell at first because of the bad camera angle. Pierrothito kicks Stukita out, poses, and Aereo dropkicks him. Warrior in. Aereo runs right past Warrior, flips off the corner and Warrior fouls him. Well, that was quite lame. Warrior starts to cover, técnicos shove him off and check on Aero, but it blocks Tirantes from being able to raise Aero's arm at first to give him the win. Everyone gets the idea anyway
Match 3: Fuego, Sagrado, Starman vs Namajague, Sangre Azteca, Virus
Arena Mexico, 10/22/2013
Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 16:32
Rating: ok
Notes: Referee is Tigre Hispano.
1: Fuego and Virus have a good mat wrestling segment to start. Fuego seems in real danger in an armscissors, but escapes and puts Virus in a chinlock. Fuego double arm drag ends it. Longest ever Starman call as he comes in to face Sangre. They keep doing it, which causes my TV to mute. Sangre and Starman are active, though not as interesting as the last two. Sagrado quickly headscissors Namajague out, then ducks Virus and superkicks him. Sangre gets in a swing kick from the apron, celebrates, and Sagrado takes enziguri. That still lets Virus get in his clip, dropkick and to the face. Sangre Azteca adds the low blow dropkick from a long way way, and Virus covers while Namajague holds off the other técnicos.
2: Rudos keep control of the second fall one on one. Fuego has a very dramatic crawl to the corner but Namajague pulls him back in time. Corner clothesline sets up a nice Sangre Azteca dropkick. Sagrado fights back against Namajague, but the rudos swarm him with stomps and punches in their corner. Sagrado flips over a double backdrop and headscissors Virus out. The ring is making a weird clinking noise everyone someone hits the mat, and it's very distracting as everyone gets involved. Sangre takes his required monkey flips and Starman wraps him up for one pin. Fuego brings back his old hold to defeats Namajague quickly. There's a puppet in the crowd for some reason, and they like showing him (that reason is pretty obvious, it's a puppet.)
3: Namajague breaks out the splits as way under a leapfrog, still ends up being hit by a Starman wheel kick for a two count. Namajague Fights off Starman long enough to go to the top rope and takes a super armdrag for another two count. Fuego and Sangre Azteca try to do a Rayo de Jalisco routine and could use some work on their timing. Usual Fuego spots. Sagrado and Virus doesn’t amount too much, and Sagrado almost bails before Namajague can hit him. Starman planchas Namajague for a near fall, then inside cradles him for another. Starman northern lights suplex one two NO. Namajague slips behind, German suplex, Starman is done.
Sangre rolls thru a Fuego huracanrana, and nearly beats him. Announcers aren't sure for a moment. Sangre throws himself out on a missed corner charge, but Fuego screws up in turn, a run up the corner plancha into Sangre' boots (and almost back into the camera.) Sagrado misses a corner charge, Virus inside cradle for two, casita, Sagrado kinda of reverses out of it, Virus gets the arm trap armbar in and that's it.
Stellar Moments
Castigo: Fuego tossed into a Sangre Azteca dropkick
Combinacion: Stuka torpedo splash and Angel de Oro mercedora
Lance: Máximo tope on Ephesto
Doloroso: Marcela dropkick right to Dallys' face
Espectacular: Dorada ramp diving headscissors on Ultimo Guerrero
Match 4: Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Rey Escorpión, Vangellys
Arena Mexico, 10/22/2013
Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:57
Rating: ok/good
Notes: Referee is Tirantes.
1: Delta and Rojo are even until Delta armdrags Dragon out and chases him about. Atlantis and Escorpion circle, but just as lure so Vangellys can attack the veteran from behind and start the beatdown. Rudos beat up everyone for a minute, then they all almost leave on their own. Delta takes the sunset flip reversal dropkick. Maya is back elbowed around. Vangelis finishes Atlantis impressively with the hanging upside down nudo submission, and that's it for the fall.
2: Rudos stay in control. Maya sells Escorpion's boost corner axhandle much bigger than it looked. Delta takes a flapjack and dropkick from Vangellys. Atlantis avoids a corner charge to start the comeback. Quebradora for Vangellys, for Escorpion for Dragon Rojo. Atlantis and Vangellys grab each other and brawl their way out of the ring, which leave the other four. Rudos hit each other, Delta huracanranas Dragon Rojo off the rope, Maya adds a top rope splash and a over the knee backbreaker for good measure, while Delta uses his campana on Escorpion.
3: Rey Escorpion chases Aly away. Vangelis, who ran away from Atlantis at the end of the last fall, does so to start this one. Maya shows off his armdrags with Dragon Rojo. Vangellys runs from Atlantis one more time, so it's Delta & Escorpion instead. Delta backspring headscissors Escorpion out, backwards rolls off the rope and into a headscissors on Escorpion smoothly. Vangellys gets stuck in with Atlantis this time, but does punch him while he's also dealing with Dragon Rojo. Atlantis ducks under a chop and hits Vangellys back, but leaps right back into a Vangellys chop. Corner whip, Atlantis moves, Vangellys hits the corner, but then turns and hits Atlantis. Vangellys runs again, and into an awkward backdrop. Monkey flips goes better. Atlantis dropkicks Vangellys out and teases a dive, but Vangellys runs some more. He's really getting his cardio this match. Maya and Escorpion leads to Escorpion actually blocking one off Maya's armdrags, only to hit Dragon Rojo out by mistake. Escorpion takes the super high monkey flip to the floor out of the scene, Delta teases toping him but goes thru the corner to get Draogn Rojo (but hits the ropes and doesn't get much distance) and Maya crashes into Escorpion and the barricade. Vangellys and Atlantis to end it. Vangellys runs into a better backdrop. Atlantis huracanrana, Vangellys rolls thru and grabs the ropes, one two three.
History Capsule: Felino.
Match 5: Kráneo, Mr. Águila, Volador Jr. vs Super Porky, Titán, Valiente
Arena Mexico, 10/22/2013
Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:23
Rating: ok
Notes: Valiente is wearing his new white and gold armor. Titan has an executioner's hood this week. Porky has hair fuzz on the back of his head. Kraneo & Mije are in the Vader/Yoda outfits. Aguila is wearing a half mask – half Aguila, half I don't recognize. Volador has Venom facepaint and is keeping the towel around the neck look. Referee is Tigre Hispano.
1: Volador may wrestle with that towel around his neck. Titan is okay with it, but Volador takes it off and hands it to his corner. Titan and Volador back and forth lead s to a Titan armdrag and an unimpressed Volador. Another battle, another armdrag, and zero trips from there. Faceoff, or not, since Volador prefers to look and point at the crowd than Titan. Valiente and one shoulder pad wearing Aguila, with a half leopard face. They just do a couple armdrags and check out. Kraneo and Porky are last. Porky's shaved his mustache too. Kraneo knocks over Porky with a shoulderblock and celebrates big. Kraneo does everything big. Kraneo runs into armdrags and a sunset flip, Porky lands the sit, this is over quick. Valiente cradles Volador while Aguila runs away from Titan.
Porky and Volador have a tug of war over Volador.
2: Valiente is treated to a three man powerbomb to start the fall. Titan takes a big backdrop on the stage. Volador slams Porky in the ring. Kraneo tosses Mije on top for the win. That was not much of a fall – announcers hang around long because they're not done reading their promos.
3: Titan is treated to the swinging gate bomb, and then Aguila spends a great deal of time making sure Titan can't tag out. Aguila eventually sends him into the rudos kicks. Titan tries to crawl out again, but Volador gets him by the leg – and lets him tag out. Tigre Hispano disallows it, ohs well. Camera shot switch misses a Volador superkick, comes back to see him spit at the técnicos. Hey, they got a replay of it, nice. Kraneo back suplexes Titan for two, and again stops him from making a tag. Titan's held by Volador for Aguila's legdrop. Volador covers, and seems to let go at two – though he more protests Valiente coming in. Volador takes shots at all the técnicos. He and Aguila celebrate. Porky in, but Tigre Hispano wants him to go back, and Kraneo dropkicks Porky when he's slow to leave. Whip, handspring back elbow connects with both guys, Titan evades into the handwalk headscissors on Volador and gets a big spin on the helicopter part of hat. Aguila in with an armdrag on Valiente, and rusk Kraneo into both rudos. Porky flattens him in the corner, técnicos whip Porky for a corner splash instead of the usual it. Técnicos set it up again, but the rudos bail. Porky dives off the apron on Kraneo. Aguila drops Titan with a jumping heel kick, Volador counts Valiente into a backcracker, and that's that.
Announcers interview the puppet to wrap up the show, because why not. In true form, they switch to the long shot to expose the puppeteer for no reason.
