JCR, JCC and Amapola welcome us to the show and preview the Reyes del Aire.
Match 1: Oro Jr. & Sensei vs Artillero & Súper Comando
Arena Mexico, 02/08/2013
rudos
Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:48
Rating: ok
Notes: Joined at the tail end of introductions. Referee is Bestia Negra. Super Comando is wearing purple camouflage, which seems to defeat the point.
1: Match may be clipped at start too. Oro traps Comando in a standing surfboard, but Artillero break it up. Oro Jr. chases Artillero outside, and Artillero stays in when they resume. Amapola isn't a fan of Oro Jr., mostly because he has that name and isn't Oro. Oro does try back bending on out of a wristlock, and it takes him three tries to escape. Oro Jr. armdrags, Artillero traps him in arm hold, Oro Jr. escapes to an armdrag is the pattern for a while. Oro Jr. does get holds in, but not for long, Artillero escaping or getting the ropes. Artillero stays in to face Sensei, is sent out by a jumping snap mare. Super Comando kicks down Sensei, does the require Crane pose. Sensei rallies back, but Artillero cuts him off with a slow 'rana. Super Comando
2: Highlight of rudos beatdown is a catapult into a gutbuster. Super Comando didn't do anything but stick his knee out, and Oro Jr. landed on it. Rudos liked it so much that they try it again, only Comando is busy arguing with Bestia Negra and not watching when Sensei jumps out of the catapult to kick Comando in the back of the head. Artillero misses a senton, Oro Jr. in with a sunset flip, Artillero rolls thru but misses the dropkick. Corner whip, Oro Jr. moonsault bodyblock for three.
Super Comando missile dropkicks Oro Jr., and clotheslines Sensei. Whip, quebradora escaped by Sensei, and he pulls out a casadora into a kneebar for the submission. Amapola seems to be warming up to Oro Jr.
3: No break between falls. Oro Jr. backdrops Comando, Comando dropkicks and powerslams Oro Jr. for two. Oro flips Comando to the apron, and the two do the Terremoto/Astro de Plata spot without anyone breaking anything. (Casadora bulldog.) If you think I'm not talking to this match, announcers were just discussing Comando Ruso vs Oro and Plata. Oro springboard dropkick Comando to get back in control, but slips running up the corner and lands on the buckles painful. Comando says that's it – powerbomb, press pin for three.
Sensei comes in, and Comando feeds his arm into the SenseiLock. That took seconds.
Artillero, who just saw his brother submitted with an arm hold, offer his hand for a handshake. Sensei does not take it. Counters lead to an Artillero inside cradle for one. Sensei pulls off a middle rope sort of jumping armscissors into a submission, and that’s it. Sensei won't let go for some reason, and finally does at four. I have no idea. Crowd seems barely aware the match ended, though they do react when the arms are raised.
Match 2: Máximo vs Máscara Dorada, Valiente, Ángel de Oro, Guerrero Maya Jr., Diamante, Tritón, Fuego, Volador Jr., Mephisto, Rey Escorpión, Niebla Roja, Psicosis, Sangre Azteca, Virus,Puma in a CMLL's Reyes del Aire Tournament semifinal match
Arena Mexico, 02/08/2013
Valiente monkey flip Sangre Azteca (11:20)
Winner: Volador
Match Time: 28:50
Rating: okay/good
Notes: Tecnicos enter to Electroshock's theme, or maybe no one can decided on Mascara Dorada's music. Or maybe it's Triton's theme now? Nah, I don't think so. Rudos enter to Volador Jr.'s music. Puma Kind oddly cuts in front of him down the stairs. Mije is with the rudos. Rey Escorpion is wearing his mask again. How many of those did he get made? Referee in the ring is Tirantes, with Bestia Negra and Babe Richard outside. Everyone starts shoving, so Tirantes starting shoving guys himself.
Triton and Niebla Roja start. Triton has a t-shirt with the same symbols as his pants, so it looks like it's an actual outfit. Always a good move. Also, his gloves are very blue. Roja and Triton got thru a quick moving opening, including Triton rolling out of an armdrag band backwards rolling to get behind Roja. More counters lead to a Triton walk up the corner triple bounce headscissors and a handspring dive fake. Volador and Fuego, still in the sling, are next. Volador's got his Tron outfit on, but underneath another Volador Predator mask that's cut thru the middle and hanging on Volador's head sort of like a Parka hood. It doesn’t stay up for long. JCR goes over Volador's win history. Amapola is picking Volador to win this one. Volador misses a clothesline, Fuego trips him up, cartwheel and backflips, and then hesitates awkwardly. Uh. Fuego gets in the over the back armdrag, hesitates again, duck a clothesline and come back with a bad headscissors not even close to the head. Volador decides to leave. I don't know what's with Fuego, but he looks very nervous. Diamante springboard backflips into face Puma. Puma is very red. Diamante kip up armdrag shim away, Puma trips Diamante up, evasion with lots of leapfrogs, Diamante powerslam one two NO. Diamante corner clothesline, but Puma pops out of the corner with a superkick. Diamante kips up and chops Puma, then runs up the ropes. Quad bounce spinning armdrag sends Puma out – to the técnico side, and a few guys take a swing at him before he gets out of the way. Mascara Dorada and Sangre Azteca in, Sangre spinning Dorada with a shoulderblock. Dorada tries to turn a whip into the craziest flipping run ever but can't stink the landing on his handspring tornillo. He reverses to a headscissors Sangre out and teases a dive, but Sangre stays a safe distance. Máximo and Virus in. Announcers note Máximo is not really a flyer, though JCC defends his tope. Máximo does Máximo comedy, Virus ducks the kiss and chops him. Máximo lands his double springboard headscissors and sends Virus out. Crowd is louder chanting “Beso” than they've been all match. Guerrero Maya and Psicosis next, Maya monkey flipping Psicosis before landing his usual run the rope armdrag. Psicosis misses a dropkick and flies straight to the floor. Maya poses, Maya kicks him out, and Valiente comes into face him. Evasion, Valiente doing his hop among other things. Rey Escorpion takes the monkey flip to floor, and Valiente ropes him into the front row! The fans help Escorpion up before security and the rudos get there. Mephisto and Angel de Oro in, though Oro going down to chest slaps quickly. Evasion, Angel de Oro flashy dropkick. Whip, reversed, Oro rolls to the apron, Mephisto gives him a long but deiced to charge anyway. Oro stunner over the ropes, roll in, Mephisto moves, Oro rolls back for a spinning headscissors, and Mephisto goes out. Angel de Oro runs – tope con giro, but over to the rudo side. Oro has torn backwards while being kicked, and some of the photographers almost get caught in the middle. Inside, Triton headscissors Niebla Roja out, but Volador surprises him with a missile dropkick to the back. Fuego springboard dropkicks Volador, but totally misses on his quebrada on Puma. Puma doesn't sell (few do on that), and Fuego comes back for his variation on a corner push off headscissors. Puma's able to sidestep a Fuego dropkick and pounds Fuego with a forearm, and Virus, Escorpion and Sangre all come in to stop Fuego. Dorada, Oro and Diamante all take turns into dropkicking everyone but Escorpion (who leaves on his own) out, and follow with big tope con giros. Everyone else comes in and just starts brawling with each other in the ring. The referees have lost control! Everyone starts to fight their way out, and Oro demands to face Rey Escorpion, so they stay in. Break.
Chop fight, switches to face slap fight, and Rey Escorpion wins that. Escorpion off the ropes, but into Angel de Oro's superkick. Angel de Oro slaps Escorpion, off the ropes, into an Escorpion clothesline. Escorpion tells the entire técnicos side off. Whip, miss, Oro back with a back spin headscissors, Escorpion out the técnicos side, técnicos starts to attack him, then stop so Angel de Oro can land his moonsault. Oro doesn't really get caught, more bounce off Escorpion and fall to the mat. Tecnicios resume stomping on Escorpion. Referees have to get involved. Back in the ring, Máximo misses with Psicosis. Psicosis knocks Máximo down with a shoulderblock, Máximo gets in his armdrags, Psicosis goes out. Sangre tries to attack, gets stuck in the ropes as usual. Valiente into face him, but Sangre is on him with chest slaps and forearms to the back of the head. Whip, Valiente springboard backflip to escape, and monkey flips Sangre Azteca around. Valiente pulls the Sangre's legs out of the ropes, turns him around so he's pinned more to Tirantes' liking, and over for three. Wait, Sangre Azteca lost via monkey flip? He did, huh.
Virus exchanges chops with Valiente, and wins via kick to the back. Virus chops Valiente down. Corner whip, Valiente tries to run up the ropes but slips going up, and slides out of the ring to floor. Maya takes his spot, slingshot in with an armdrag, but Virus clotheslines him too. Maya blocks a Virus kick, spins him, and still gets clotheslined by Virus for another two count. Virus small package, one two NO. Virus would prefer a faster count. Whip, reversed, Maya leaps over Virus and lands his springboard reverse tope. Virus swings his way around into position for Maya's inverted suástica, and that's it.
Niebla Roja dropkicks Maya. Flapjack kick to lay out Maya. Virus sits on the apron, talking to Babe Richard about something before he leaves. Maybe about Valiente? Maya slides under Roja, armdrags him out, and then runs – tope con giro into the crowd! He nearly made second row that time, his feet did at least. Volador, Diamante and Puma all in, Diamante evades the corner charge, but Puma still lands his up kick, Volador front cracker, Puma superkick, Diamante out, and Volador boosts Puma into a running pescado onto Diamante. Thought they were go to finish him off in the ring that time. Escorpion in, Oro in on him with a top rope plancha, then a 'rana for two. Oro flips tot eh apron for his usual superkick/outside in sequence, and the usual two count which accompanies it. Oro goes for a 'rana again, but Escorpion drops him with a sit down powerbomb for three. 13 to go. Break.
Triton waits, then springboards in to armdrag Mephisto. Mephisto and Triton reverse whips and barely avoids each other’s leapfrogs. Mephisto trips Triton up, misses the sit in the ropes, and hangs himself to Triton’s top rope guillotine legdrop. Triton covers, but Tirantes won't count because Mephisto is too close to the ropes. Triton barely moves Mephisto's head, Tirantes counts, but Mephisto gets the ropes anyway. Triton doesn’t argue this, compared to all the two counts they argue. Triton drops Mephisto in the corner, moonsault tornillo – includes a knee to the face, oh no. Mephisto isn't moving. Triton covers, one two, no kickout but Triton rolls off as if Mephisto did. Triton starts moving around Mephisto, to keep going, but Mephisto isn't aware. Triton really isn't aware either, and Tirantes has to shove him away. Puma also alertly attacks Triton from behind and throws him out the ring, then calls time out when Máximo comes in. All three refs and the doctor quickly surround Mephisto, everyone looking concerned. Máximo moves to pick up Mephisto to keep going, but the referees shove him away. Mephisto seems to have waken back up, but they're concerned enough to keep him down. Members of teams crowd around, and the referees push the técnicos back again. Announcers mention the knee to the face as we see the replay – Triton's knee hit full force about the right cheek. Triton visibly talks to Mephisto as he's covering him, so he probably should've been aware something was wrong. Back live, Mephisto is put on backboard – not the collapse stretcher they often use – and carried out. Maybe Hijo del Fantasma can explain to Triton later about how much injuring Mephisto helps your career.
Match resumes with Puma and Máximo, though many of the rudos are still up on the apron discussing things. Valiente flips Maximo to safety, but Puma superkicks him. Máximo slaps Valiente back, Valiente give Puma a shoulder gutbuster, and drags Puma over for a Máximo top rope splash. 11 guys left, but it's now 4 rudos (Niebla Roja, Psicosis, Rey Escorpion, and Volador Jr.) versus 7 técnicos (everyone but Angel de Oro.)
Diamante springboard planchas Angel de Oro, but Volador breaks it up immediately, slaps Diamante out of the ring, and calls Triton back in. Triton wasn't on the apron to come in next, but he comes in because Volador's taking care of a loose end. Triton is upset about people cheering Volador. Volador makes sure people cheer him. Volador kicks Triton, powerbombs him (a bit hard and Niebla Roja immediately adds a top rope splash. Niebla Roja and Volador were two of the guys standing on the apron talking the last sequence – useful meeting! (Sure seems like Mephisto was supposed to eliminate Triton, now they've just got to get around the parts where Mephisto's not around for.)
Diamante in and giving Niebla a Code Red for a two count. Niebla Roja slips in knee lifts on Diamante, then has a complicated set up to what amounts to a Rosa suplex. That's enough to take out Diamante. Técnicos are down two men, and the sides are a lot more even suddenly.
Fuego misses a running plancha on Psicosis, and is kicked in the chest. Fuego turns a whip into a ranita for two. Fuego quebrada goes much better this time, only gets two. Psicosis misses a corner charge, but gets himself tossed into the Psicosis Buster. Three count, he's done, and three straight for the rudos. Down to the last eight: Mascara Dorada, Guerrero Maya, Valiente, and Máximo vs Niebla Roja, Psicosis, Rey Escorpion and Volador.
Rey Escorpion back in, Máximo cartwheeling around. Headscissors, block everything, kiss, Rey Escorpion out and Maximo topes him. Guerrero Maya starts to come in, but Valiente demands to face Volador again. Valiente does his own cartwheel over a drop down, but Volador pops up and superkicks him. Volador whip, revers, and Valiente scoops him up – Valiente Buster! One two NO. That was both a way slow count, and Niebla Roja was trying to pull Tirantes out of the ring to break it up only for Bestia Negra to break it up. Valiente justifiably argues with Tirantes, and Volador pulls him in the backcracker. Three count, and four straight técnicos eliminated.
Psicosis and Mascara Dorada in, Psicosis with a headscissors counter faceslam for two. Dorada flipped to the apron, but back in with a springboard – into a Psicosis powerbomb. Psicosis scoops him up, and powerbombs Dorada into the corner! One two NO. Psicosis misses a corner charge, Dorada flipped up but kicks Psicosis away. Psicosis charges, Dorada gives him his own Psicosis Buster for three. That finally stops the rudo run. Down to six.
Máximo and Niebla Roja in, much to Niebla Roja's disappointment. Máximo spinebusters, casita one two NO. Máximo casadora cradle one two NO. SUDDEN BREAK.
Niebla Roja catches Máximo with his cristo faceslam, but only gets two. Niebla Roja argues the count, but it seems fair. Roja kicks, Maximo deflects, kiss, cradle, one two three. That was a definite fast count for arguing with Tirantes.
Niebla Roja complains on his way out. Mije, now in Volador's shirt and cut up mask, comes in the ring to face Máximo, partially on Volador's orders. Máximo is a bit concerned, but scoops Mije up and tosses him out of the ring! Nice catch by Mascara Dorada. Volador superkicks Máximo, senton, two count. Máximo blocks everything, kisses Volador, cradle, Volador rolls thru, backcracker, one two three. Final four are Guerrero Maya & Mascara Dorada vs Rey Escorpion & Volador. The latter two are showing no lingering problems from the recent title match. Crowd loudly boos Máximo's elimination.
Guerrero Maya and Volador in, but Rey Escorpion attacks May from behind and both rudos beat him. Dorada in, casadora cradle on Escorpion, two count. Dorada drops Escorpion the corner of the ring, handspring moonsault meets knees! That's a cool spot, hope it works some time. Escorpion covers, one two NO. Dorada off the ropes, 'rana, blocked, Escorpion tries to powerbomb, but Dorada goes over the top for a ranita, one two three. Escorpion is gone.
Guerrero Maya in again to face Volador. No one to help this time. Volador kicks Maya in the corner but misses a charge, and Maya heel kicks him. Maya grabs a leg for a cradle suplex, but holds on and rolls backwards instead, then does the suplex anyway. He can't hold the bridge, but Guerrero Maya is crazy. Corner whip, Volador gets in chest first, Maya gives him the double knee smash to the back, cover one two NO. Maya is a little bit frustrated. Maya scoops up Volador and drops him in the center of the ring. What's the plan here? Maya springboard – no, Volador trips him in the ropes, and takes him off with the top rope guillotine legdrop one two three. Volador was alert enough to grab Maya's outside arm and keep it away from the ropes. Volador has now personally gotten the last three rudo pinfalls, and is one more away from winning it.
Mascara Dorada and Volador to settle it. Dorada is fired up, but waits for Volador to get back to his feet. Volador takes his time. Dueling flipping runs, Volador clothesline misses, Dorada headscissors does not. Both the outside referees leave for some reason. Dorada up top – moonsault to the floor on Volador. Dorada throws Volador back in, take a breath, then runs. Ranita, one two NO. Close one. Both are slow up. Volador should be tired at this point. Dorada kicks Volador down as he sits up. Corner whip, is revers ad few times, but we end up with Dorada on the apron, climbing up and kicks by Volador. Volador climbs up with him – off the top rope 'rana, one two three. Wow, that was short. Not the match, but the last sequence.
Volador and Mije celebrate.
