Match 1: León vs Amapola for the CMLL REINA International Women’s Championship
Arena Mexico, 10/12/2012

  1. Leon frogsplash (2:52)

  2. Amapola Devil’s Wings (2:43)
  3. Amapola backcracker (6:59)

Winner: Leon (2-1)
Match Time: 12:34
Rating: good
Notes: Entrances. Skandalo is Amapola’s second. Starman is Leon’s second. Referee is Bestia Negra. Commissioner on duty is Gustavo.

1: Ring announcers and TV announcers both make a point of saying Amapola is representing Mexico. Amapola also extends a hand before the match, which Leon very tentatively accepts to shake. Amapola doesn’t go all the way técnica – she’s still pulling hair in the first exchange – but she’s the home promotion luchadora. The two start with some mat wrestling, which takes up the majority of the fall. There’s some timing issues as they get running, Leon ready to take a move before Amapola gets there, but the finishing bit goes well. Leon spears Amapola once in the corner, then a second time free standing for a two count. Leon then stands on Amapola and stomps her, screaming all the time, and takes the fall with a top rope frog splash. The frog splash looks very nice.

2: More of a move trading fall, each women making sudden comebacks to hit signature moves. Amapola did some of her usual stuff (corner spear, hair pull while sitting on the middle rope, running sit), while Leon used a nice climbing bulldog before a double underhook suplex and a spinning side slam where it was unclear to me if Leon just does them a little bit differently or if they weren’t working right. This is the first Leon match I’ve seen, so not sure. The best exchange of the fall was actually a more simple forearm exchange, worked back and forth like a chop one. Leon went up top for the frog splash after her side slam, but Amapola got her feet up this time, and immediately finished her with the Devil’s Wings to tie it up.

Replay shows Leon flipped over after landing on Amapola’s feet. Not sure I’ve seen that before.

3: The fall was rejoined with Amapola already trapped in a crab and crawling to the ropes. It was a rare moment of danger for the challenger in the fall. Leon would soon miss a spear (and just fell to the mat), Amapola speared her, and she was off. Leon spent a minute trapped in an inverted figure, Leon’s attempt for a sunset flip was blocked and niftily rolled forward in an Amapola sunset flip, as was Leon’s next attempt for a cradle. Amapola nearly won with a back suplex in a powerbomb for another near fall. Leon stopped the run with a messy cradle after escaping a suplex, then backed Amapola in the corner for chops. The match was interrupted for a hilarious edit, as the two went in one corner and appeared in the other. Leon managed to send Amapola to an opposite corner and fight her on the top rope, but only to set up a super Amapola front superplex. Amapola teases a moonsault for Leon to throw her down, Leon tries the same only for Amapola to powerbomb her off the corner, again more Amapola offense. Leon finally puts together a run with a side backbreaker, a spear, and top rope senton con giro where all of Leon’s weight (which is not much, but still) lands on Amapola. Leon can’t get a count right away, referee refusing to count because Amapola’s shoulders aren’t all the way down, but they work it out for a two count. There’s another clip here, perhaps Amapola needed a bit of time to recover from that. They’re both standing and swinging as they resume. Leon lands a punch, but misses a clothesline and Amapola steps behind her for a backcracker. That’s enough for the win.

Crowd shot. Back for Leon punching Amapola in the face. Clothesline misses, Amapola slips behind for a backcracker one two three.

Amapola celebrates big. Fans are happy. Replays.

Match 2: Máscara Dorada, Místico ©, Titán vs Averno ©, Ephesto, Mephisto
Arena Mexico, 10/12/2012

  1. rudos

  2. tecnicos
  3. técnicos

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 17:04
Rating: ok
Notes: Since Averno is now arrogant slow waking guy, and Mephisto is Bane, Ephesto needs his own new gimmick. (Counterpoint: Ephesto has had plenty of gimmicks already.) Tirantes is referee. Monito is with the técnicos.

1: Titan & Ephesto and Dorada & Averno are in briefly. Mephisto and Místico aren't in much longer than that, but enough for Místico to start his usual run in offense. Mephisto slides out to escape, Místico chases, and Mephisto gives him a flapjack on the floor again. The other técnicos leap into the ring, also leaping to their immediate doom. Averno plays Pequeño Black Warrior to Mascara Dorada's Shockercito, picking him up and powerbombing him into the buckle for the pin.

2: Rudos control the fall. Místico spends the longest time stuck in, with Mephisto untying his mask early and pulling it front of Mistico's face not much after. (No surprising dyed hair, so he's not really Místico yet!) Ephesto gives Místico a sort of inverted armbreaker that really impresses Bucanero. Titan comes in to help a couple times, fully expecting Tirantes to stop him, only rule stickler Tirantes doesn't feel like getting involved tonight and only eventually gets to verbally warning the técnico. Místico sneaks in a headscissors on Averno, but Averno gets control back enough to anger the other técnicos and do the Místico pose himself. Mascara Dorada & Titan both get brought in to be worked over, but it's for a much shorter amount of time. Titan starts the comeback, his usual handspring setting up a jumping mid kick this time. It only barely connects, but Averno bumps big. Ephesto kicks Titan, then turns to take Dorada's floating headscissors. Mephisto kicks Dorada, then turns to take Mistico's springboard headscissors. Averno inadvertently boosts Místico to a diving headscissors all the way to the floor, and the other técnicos clean up with their finishing moves.

3: Tecnico offensive runs. Titan flips too soon on a clothesline, but looks better on a springboard twisting headscissors. Titan pulls out 1 on 2 moves versus the others, and Mephisto is treated to the headstand backflip headscissors. Dorada runs thru the rudos with headscissors, the ramp running slingshot headscissors into the ring on Averno as his final big spot. Místico really wants to face Mephisto. Instead, he headscissors Averno out, landing on his feet, and is stomped down by the other two. That doesn’t take, and Ephesto is the next headscissors out. Mephisto manges to flip Místico to the apron, but he kicks Mephisto back and dives in with a headscissors . Rudos are sent out the same side, Dorada & Místico do tope con giros as Titan adds a springboard moonsault.

Titan and Mephisto end up in first, Titan getting in a dropkick and reversing a superbomb into a super 'rana. Springboard frog splash gets two and an Averno break up. Averno lifts Titan up on his shoulders and rams him back first into the corner in a brutal spot, and Dorada has to break up that pin. Ephesto superplexes Dorada (!) and it's Mistico's turn to make the save. Fans have been booing Místico here, but it's more noticeable here. Ephesto tries his trademark cradle, but Místico blocks it like always and Mephisto has to make the save. Mephisto lays out Místico with a Rosa DDT, Místico leaning into it and taking it right on his head. Místico still manges a surprise small package for two. Averno breaks it up and sends him out. Dorada and Titan send Averno and Ephesto out, stand on the same corner, and land top rope tope con giros on them.

Místico and Mephisto come in to finish it. Místico seems to forget what they're doing, and doesn't catch Mephisto's clothesline as he should, but they work it out and Místico still dumps Mephisto in the corner. Shooting star press, no one there, Místico lands on his feet (hard on his ankles), and Mephisto tosses him into a foul kick. No question, no delay on the count.
