Match 1: Volador Jr. vs Máscara Dorada in a lightning match
Arena Mexico, 09/02/2011
Winner: Volador
Match Time: 7:11
Rating: okay
Notes: Referee is Babe Richard. Volador is Green Lantern, and these are two bright shiny outfits.
They're doing complicated back and forth three seconds after actually getting started, leading to a nice Dorada reversal of a sunset flip into a forward cradle. Zero trips, standoff, dueling flipping runs. Volador headscissors Dorada out, hits both sets of ropes, and flies out with a tope con giro. Dorada makes it in first, kicking Dorada back, charging with another kick, missing but sending Dorada out with the giant hiptoss. Volador catches his breath. I don't know how we're three and a half minutes in already, it's not seemed that long at all. They pan up to the clock, and suddenly Dorada is in the ring and Volador is out of it. Huh. You could hear something happen, but not acutely see it. Dorada goes for an Asai, but Volador pulls him off by his ankles. Volador walks him towards the corner, scoops him up, and slams him into the post. Volador up to apron and in to stop the count, then off to wave at the fans. Volador working on his breathing, then just waiting for Dorada to get back in. Dorada whipped into the corner, running superkick, running knee to the face. Dorada breathing hard. Volador in no hurry. Volador brings Dorada cross the ring and out to the ramp. Dorada slapped back up the ramp. Whip, Dorada handspring off the outside of the ropes, and back for a headscissors on the apron for Volador. Dorada poses, gets slight boos. Volador brought back in, as they pass the six minute mark. Dorada back up the ramp, sets himself, runs, and – just misses the floating headscissors, Volador pulling back on him, letting him fall, and covering for two. Replays seem to show Volador leaning down for the move, not being close enough, and just bailing on it when he knew it wouldn't work. Not sure you need to show replays of that, but okay. Cut back live, and again Dorada has sent Volador out. Dorada runs up the ropes, turning around and landing the top rope springboard moonsault to the floor quite well. Replays. Volador makes it back in first. Dorada gets up on the apron, Volador looking the wrong way, turning around, and getting dropped by Dorada's springboard plancha. Dorada springboard reverses tope – met by Volador dropkick. Volador covers, one two NO. Babe Richard threw me there, by putting his head down as he slide to count, and then counters on the next time. Volador stands picks up Dorada, Dorada just grabs him and slams him. Dorada goes up top to boos. Mooonsault connects, one two NO. Volador claps, which gets the crowd to make some noise. Eight and half minutes. Dorada misses a clothesline, Volador front cracker, Dorada is all staggered, Volador front cracker #2, Dorada still staggered, Volador makes the motion, backcracker, one two three. Crowd is happy.
I should note here that I assumed we'd see the time at the end of the match. They do not show it, so I went back and timed it myself – and what do you know, there's at least a minute missing, probably ninety seconds. No wonder it felt so fast.
Match 2: Fuego, Sagrado ©, Sangre Azteca vs Cancerbero, Euforia, Virus ©
Arena Mexico, 01/20/2012
técnicos
Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:31
Rating: good
Notes: Monito is out with Sagrado. Cancerberos enter together. Referee is Maya.
1: JCR has brought up Virus vs Maya twice already, so Maya gets to talk about it here. JCR also brings up Virus starting in Arena Aptalco, which is funny since I just edited that luchawiki page a few hours ago. They should bring up the arena Maya started in. Maya instead talks about both he and Sangre are técnicos with rudo blood and might make a good team. Virus and Sangre have a complicated though methodical mat wrestling battle, taking a second or two to sink the holds and cradles. Fuego and Cancerbero also have a very slow, low impact exchange by Fuego's standards. Euforia and Sagrado get to pick it up, Euforia leveling his similarly colored opponents with a big boot. Sagrado fights back with a corner kick and a springboard headscissors. Euforia out, rudo kick Sagrado out, Fuego in with a flying armdrag to send Virus out, Cancerbero gets Euforia with a back elbow by mistakes, clotheslines Fuego, and tosses Sangre – right into an Estacas Aztecas! That was well done. Fuego catches the director by surprise, tope con giro on Virus, and his partners wrap it up.
2: Fuego doing the Fuego dance is enough to annoy the rudos into starting the beatdown. Monito immediately tries to hide, and Euforia stomps him anyway. Triple face first bomb on Fuego proves tricky. Sangre actually gets in a dropkick on Euforia but the others grab him. Cancerbero can push off Virus' back for the elbow drop just as well as he can Raziel. Euforia pops Sangre with a dropkick to the face. Sagrado in and hitting everyone, but the rudos get on him too. Clotheslines by Sagrado from everyone, and they finish him off there.
Rudos drag Monito the center of the ring for Virus to poke around. Monito tries to get away, and Virus legdrops him! What mean person. Euforia tries to grab him for more, but May rolls him to safety and Sangre rushes into get beat instead.
3: Rudos have fun clotheslining Sagrado around. Fuego makes the comeback about 1m30s in, Fuego moonsaulting over two, and Cancerbero being taking out by a double chop. Nice backdrop escape armdrag sends Euforia out, Virus shoulderblocks Fuego on, Sangre comes in but misses a clothesline Virus, then hits the rolling wheel kick away. Cancerbero back elbows Sangre for a surprise two count. Chop fight between them, Cancerbero spinning Sangre out with one and stomping Sangre down in the corner. This was an odd comeback. Corner whip, Cancerbero charge in, Sangre steps forward and tosses him into the corner, then dropkicks him down. Cancerbero is all lined up for the Estacas Aztecas, but Euforia cuts him off with a boot. Sagrado in with a springboard plancha on Euforia. Headscissors follows, but Cancerbero knocks him down. Rudos grab Sagrado, flip him, and hold him for a Virus dropkick. Rudos hold off the técnicos, Virus grabs Sagrado, Sagrado with a Ephesto Roll, one two three!
Cancerberos are so confused. Monito gets in a dropkick on Virus, and Sagrado holds him for a butt drop and punch to the face.
Match 3: Blue Panther ©, La Máscara, Marco Corleone vs Felino, Mr. Niebla ©, Negro Casas
Arena Mexico, 01/20/2012
técnicos
Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 7:33
Rating: good
Notes: Marco gets a lot of shrieks from the crowd. Peste Negra enter together. Zacarias is dressed like Niebla again – I wonder how he gets that shirt that looks like skin over his feathers? Panther jumps Negro while he's dancing, how rude. Referee is Tirantes.
1: técnicos get the better of a brawl for once. Negro ducks Marco’s punch and keeps walking, so Marco just turns him around and swings again, connecting this time. Corner clotheslines on Niebla set up an easy Mascara pin.
Panther keeps fighting the rudos between the falls.
2: Marco beats Niebla into the crowd and hip swivels for a very entertained woman. Rudos randomly turn it around in the ring on the other two. Panther suplexed, Niebla top rope splash, one two three. Glad they bothered to have three falls today.
3: Zacarias flirts with the card girl (as does Maya), but I'm distracted by this huge bulge on Zacarias back. I don't know what's going on there, but it includes a spider web tattoo. Marco somehow ends up with Felino’s vest on and does the hip swivel to cheers. Mascara makes his own comeback, evading a Felino’s corner charge, ducking a Negro clothesline, superkicking Niebla, quebradora for Negro, but Felino rolls thru a sunset flip and kicks him. No one in to help, and Felino covers for two. Mascara and Felino get up, pause, Máscara under a clothesline, pause at the ropes, Mascara kick to the thigh, Máscara walks over to Felino to walk, whip, quebradora. What happened there? Mascara is about to easily get on the casadora cradle, but Niebla breaks it up with a slap. Niebla and Marco get in a slap punch battle – the punch can't Niebla down this time, and Marco lands the springboard clothesline. Lots of shrieks. Zack runs in, kicks and punches and Marco's leg to no effect, does Marco’s dance, and Marco picks him up and spins him. Marco sets him down, and give him the hand of stone. Negro in, Marco puts him in armbar and tags in Panther. Negro breaks loose but isn't happy. Crowd does pick up for the chop fight, clothesline, not up, Negro armbars Panther and kicks him, Panther grabs for the ankle lock, Negro breaks free, Panther clothesline him. This is better than they’ve been. Panther knocks Negro down, Negro boots him away, Negro charge, and Panther takes them both out with an armdrag. Mascara and Felino in. Mascara's shirt off. Rolling dropkick misses (!) and Felino dropkick him out. Felino’s dive connects. Niebla sets up for his dive, but Marco’s in, and Niebla is all baffled by Marco dancing. Niebla still can't slap him down, but Marco can shake Niebla with the punch. Niebla surprises Marco with the clothesline. Niebla dance! Spit is caught – on his chest. Oops. Niebla wipes it out. Marco dropkicks Niebla out. Running plancha looks really nice. Back to Panther and Negro. Chop fest, Negro gets in a kick, Felino runs into both his brother by mistake. Panther off the ropes, Felino jumps over, then drops down, and Panther just hooks both legs for a pin. One two three.
Negro watches this on one knee. Felino argues with Tirantes as Negro gets back up. Negro spins Panther, but Panther straight fouls him. Tirantes was definitely looking that direction, but he counts the pin anyway.
Marco celebrates. Mascara seems more reserved. Not sure if he's meant to be conflicted Maya is okay with whatever it takes to win.
