Theyre's a battle royal. I ignore it. Yoshihashi does his best to do the same, going out as quick after the whistle as possible. Sangre Azteca just clotheslines him on the ropes and out he goes. Okumura goes to the outside of the second rope, is dumb. Sangre Azteca stands on the top rope, is dumb. Fantasma is flipped to the apron, stands there, and Stuka just elbows him out. Misterioso manages to dropkick Puma King out from the apron, which is smart. Stuka and Fuego are last two and fight for less reason than usual.
Match 1: Averno & Yoshihashi vs Shigeo Okumura & Volador Jr. in a tournament quarterfinal match
Arena Coliseo, 10/23/2011
Winner: Okumura & Volador Jr.
Match Time: 5:40
Notes: As with all matches likely today. Ref is Rafael el Maya.
Most of the match is a Averno/Yoshihashi beatdown. Averno had to save Yoshihashi when Volador was eating him alive in their matchup, and it just went on from there. Not much interesting team work, though Yoshihashi has another new Move (running flip neckbreaker?) Volador starts the comeback and lands the tope con giro on Averno. Okumura survives a Yoshihashi neckbreaker to beat his charge with a Michinoku Driver, and Volador pins Averno after a Toyota roll.
Match 2: Hijo del Fantasma & Jushin Lyger vs Sangre Azteca & Super Porky in a tournament quarterfinal match
Arena Coliseo, 10/23/2011
Winner: Hijo del Fantasma & Jushin Lyger
Match Time: 5:09
Notes: Ref is Bestia Negra.
Mat wrestling with Lyger to start the match is the most interesting Sangre Azteca has been in weeks. And then Sangre works rudo against Fantasma, and it is good. Amazing. There's Porky comedy in between, and this is followed by Fantasma and Sangre blowing a monkey flip somehow, but baby steps. Sangre gets Fantasma with the counter dropkick, but Lyger's already in the ring to break it up. After some slap comedy, Fantasma and Lyger double spinebuster Porky. Sangre rolls thru a Fantasma 'rana for a pin, but then is immediately beat by a Lyger crucifix. Cr
Match 3: Negro Casas & Puma King vs Misterioso Jr. & Mr. Niebla in a tournament quarterfinal match
Arena Coliseo, 10/23/2011
Winner: Misterioso Jr. & Mr. Niebla
Match Time: 2:54
Notes: Ref is Pompin. Misterioso has all the tassels in the world on his outfit. Zacarias is with team Niebla.
Rudo/rudo battle with not much Peste Negra fighting until the very sudden end. Niebla grabs Negro from outside, the exchange holds, and Niebla's team suddenly gets finishing holds. Fishman's suplex on Negro, Niebla hammerlock/headscissors on Puma.
Match 4: Blue Panther & Fuego vs Stuka Jr. & Valiente in a tournament quarterfinal match
Arena Coliseo, 10/23/2011
Winner: Blue Panther & Fuego
Match Time: 5:27
Notes: Ref is Tiger Hispano, because we need four refs for this tournament. Matchup graphic is correct for the first time since the opener.
This one's a técnico battle. Valiente does a strong spear of the post, which oddly doesn't set up a dive, but the big Stuka/Fuego fight. Fuego eventually flips Stuka to the floor, and follows with a running springboard plancha. Valiente and Panther in, with Valiente getting a near fall off a springboard reverse tope and another on a corner sunset flip. Fuego returns to break that up, but the double team faceslam fails when Fuego goes to cut off Stuka. Valiente rolls it on top, and gets the three before Fuego realizes it. Valiente turns to celebrate, and Fuego cradles him for three to get us back to Stuka and Fuego. Fuego gets a Toyota roll for two, his quebrada hits but Stuka still kicks him and slams him. Stuka is a bit hesitant going up, and the top rope splash meets feet. Fuego covers, Stuka kicks out before two and his near shoulder isn't close to the mat, but Tiger Hispano counts three. That was bad.
Match 5: Shigeo Okumura & Volador Jr. vs Hijo del Fantasma & Jushin Lyger in a tournament semifinal match
Arena Coliseo, 10/23/2011
Winner: Hijo del Fantasma & Jushin Lyger
Match Time: 4:25
Notes: 52MX has lost the ability to spell Lyger. Referee is Maya.
Rudos apparently jump the técnicos, but slow the match way down after the first spill. Fantasma comes back soon after, everyone goes back to their corners for a normal match, and then Volador just comes back into help Okumura with Lyger at the first opportunity. Lyger ends up quebradora con giro-ing them both, and then doing wacky celebration. Volador and Fantasma pose off, and Volador seems to mock Fantasma's tattoo. Volador is quickly sent out with enziguri, and Fantasma follows with a tope. Okumura and Lyger in, Okumura kick, brainbuster, go away. Volador is counted out.
Match 6: Blue Panther & Fuego vs Misterioso Jr. & Mr. Niebla in a tournament semifinal match
Arena Coliseo, 10/23/2011
Winner: Misterioso Jr. & Mr. Niebla
Match Time: 2:24
Notes: Ref is Bestia Negra. Seems like the rudos have jumped the técnicos.
Another quick beatdown to quick comeback to quick beatdown again to set up another comeback. Crowd never really reacts on the second comeback in 90 seconds. This one last about 2 seconds ebfore the rudos wrap up the técnicos – figure four and Nieblina.
Match 7: Hijo del Fantasma & Jushin Lyger vs Misterioso Jr. & Mr. Niebla in a tournament final match
Arena Coliseo, 10/23/2011
Winner: Hijo del Fantasma & Jushin Lyger
Match Time: 3:08
Notes: Ref is Pompin.
Joined with rudos all over the técnicos again. Zacarias waves to the camera, the most he's gotten to do in this tournament. Rudos give Fantasma double boot by both using the outside leg, which seems unnecessary hard. Also, weird. Lyger makes a one man comeback that falls apart, and it's not really clear if it's supposed to be. Niebla gets in his dance, not a good catch, and immediately gets pulled in the spitting mecedora. Lyger powerbombs Misterioso and that's that. It's like they got a signal to end right hen.
Match 8: Héctor Garza vs Rey Bucanero
Arena Coliseo, 10/23/2011
Hector Garza inside cradle (1:50)
Winner: Hector Garza
Match Time: 7:28
Rating: ok
Notes: Rey has apparently jumped Garza. Ref is Maya.
1: Punches, chinlock! Rey goes back to kicks on the mat. Garza rolls out, Rey yells at the crowd. Rey chases out after, Garza back in, both go for takedowns, Rey gets lower and take him down. Kicks and knees to the side. Scoop, slam, senton, one two Rey pulls him up. Garza should be thrilled he didn't go down that senton, it didn't look that good. Whip, Bucanero maneuvers Garza around until he's finally in position for Tormenta Bucanero, one two picked up again. Maya and Bucanero argue about it, Garza inside cradles him, one two three.
2: Bucanero surprises Garza with punches. Garza flips over a backdrop and puts up the stop sign to remove his pants. Bucanero reaches of them, gets kicked. Garza off the ropes, armdrag, armdrag, stop sign – and Bucanero rolls him up while his shirt is over his head, one two three. That was certainly not a complete waste of time.
3: Garza misses a corner charge to start, so Bucanero can right after those trunks. Corner whip the other way, corner sunset flip, reversed, Bucanero grabs the ropes, but over rotates and Garza's shoulder aren't actually down. Maya either stop counting from that or because Bucanero has the ropes. Bucanero argues, gets sunset flipped for two. More sunset flip bits, more two counts. Garza is selling the massive pain of this sunset flip-rific four minute match. Garza baits Bucanero to go in and out, and kicks him on the way in. Garza goes for a dive, Bucanero runs around the side of the ring,Garza slides out after him, and Bucanero bats him back in. Bucanero kicks Garza as he tries to get in, just to be fair. Bucanero pescado is sort of caught by Garza. Soft kicks to the chest. Both back in, Bucanero rolling reverse cradle for two. Bucanero holds Garza on the mat in a sleeper, until Garza gets to the ropes. Sleeper is working on me. Garza up to the apron, punching Bucanero away, plancha, roll thru, Bucanero two count. Bucanero misses a clothesline, Garza inside cradle for two. And again, and again two. Small package for two. Bucanero misses a charge, Garza grabs him in a waistlock, Bucanero runs into the ref and heel fouls Garza. Bucanero stands over Maya, who knows something happened. Maya thinks about it, then is sure Garza was fouled and taps Bucanero off the pin.
