Match 1: Diamante vs Pólvora for the CMLL Universal Championship eightfinal match

Notes: Felino has joined the announcers, and they switch to showing him in the booth rather than the match for a bit. Referee is Pompin.

Obvious edit gets us to Diamante's rebound armdrag to send Pólvora out. Diamante does the Sombra front flip over the ropes out as Pólvora slides in. Springboard dropkick sends Pólvora out the other side, and Diamante just clear the apron on a tope con giro. Replays. Long count out. Pólvora gets the better of the scrum as they come back in. Whip, quick reverse, Diamante powerslam. One two NO. Diamante with an ugly boot. Off the ropes, flipped to the apron, slapping back at Pólvora. Diamante springboard plancha meets counter dropkick, one two NO. Sit down powerbomb. One two NO. Crowd not much into this match. Pólvora whipped Diamante, Diamante rolls to the ramp, Pólvora fights him but takes a swung kick, springboard 450 splash lands hard on Pólvora, but it gets the one two three.

Match 2: La Sombra vs Ángel de Oro for the CMLL Universal Championship eightfinal match

Angle de Oro offers a handshake, but Sombra slaps him down. Now is the time to fight. Chest slap fight breaks out, and Sombra wins that. Forearms to the head. Knee to the midsection. Some aggressiveness being shown here. Whip, quick reverse into an Angel de Oro knee. Clip? Both guys standing and competing for reactions. Rope avoidance, Angel de Oro behind the back headscissors. Why are we just now hearing a whistle? Angel de Oro inside out moonsault connects on Sombra. Why are we hearing the whistle again? Angel de Oro throws Sombra in. Going up top. Whistle! Plancha, one two NO. Angel de Oro flips to the apron and superkicks Sombra from there. Outside in moonsault meets knees. Sombra. Springboard moonsault meets knees. This is an even match, in that both are about to break each other. Both down, grabbing their parts. Angel de Oro casadora, Sombra tries to push him away, but Angel de Oro turns it into a sunset flip. One two no. Sombra fireman's carry, Oro out into 'rana, one two no Sombra shoulderblock, off the ropes, Angel de Oro casadora, Sombra kicks him off, Aero clothesline misses, Sombra, powerslam, quick to the ropes, moonsault into a moonsault lands, one two three.

Match 3: Rey Bucanero vs Héctor Garza for the CMLL Universal Championship eightfinal match

Garza clotheslines Rey right away, one two NO. Garza armdrag cradle one two no. Bucanero clothesline misses. Garza waistlock roll up, back bridge one two NO. Felino is complaining about Bucanero, of course. Bucanero kick to the midsection. Corner whip, Garza backflip out, Bucanero misses a dropkick, one two NO. Garza grabs Babe Richard for no real reason, Bucanero inside cradle, Bucanero has one and then two feet on the ropes, one two three. That was a faster than usual count. Garza shoves the ref, and Babe Richard walks right off.

Garza demands a hair vs hair match off this. I don't know. Bucanero doesn’t know either. Bucanero does get in his taunt on the stage, since the match didn't last long enough.

Match 4: Mephisto vs Ephesto for the CMLL Universal Championship eightfinal match

No hurry to start. Circle. Mephisto shoulderblock, off the ropes, clothesline misses, Mephisto slides out, and of course Ephesto topes him. Felino is picking Mephisto to win because he spends more time in the gym. Mephisto back in first, Ephesto with a sunset flip in, one two NO. Ephesto headscissors cradle one two NO. Ephesto bodyscissors cradle one two NO. He needs to try the cradle that actually works. Corner whip, slowly reversed, Mephisto charges in, Ephesto flips Mephisto the apron, Both guys are acting tired way too soon. Mephisto slaps Ephesto back. Going up? Mephisto indicates it, but then polls the fans. Mephisto up, Ephesto slaps him and joins him. Taking his time with this. Superplex. One two NO. Ephesto kicks Mephisto into the ropes, charge, flip to the apron, and Mephisto kicks him in the chest. Ephesto is dead, now. Ephesto leaning over the middle rope from the outside, so Mephisto decides to try a slingshot sunset flip bomb to the floor. Ephesto grabs onto the ropes hard – he wants no part of this. Mephisto kicked down, Ephesto back in – slingshot senton con giro to the floor! Replays of that. Mephisto battles back from the apron, slaps Ephesto, Ephesto staggers around a bit until Mephisto planchas him. One two NO. Crowd whistling and/or singing the rudo song. Ephesto clotheslines Mephisto repeatedly get two counts. Mephisto takedown, grabs the legs, and signs to the crowd. Mephisto puts his head down like usual suckers, Ephesto goes for the Ephesto cradle, but Mephisto's head slips out and he just sit down for the pin. That was not how it was supposed to go and ended up looking easy. Ephesto is rather sad.

CMLL Cartela: TANAHASHI promotes Tuesday's Arena Mexico card. He's very amused to do this in Spanish.

Match 5: La Sombra vs Diamante for the CMLL Universal Championship tournament quarterfinal match

Notes: Diamante and Sombra are both wearing green and black, just in reversed proportions. Symbolic and all. Referee is Bestia Negra

Neither guy can get an early advantage, too quick for each other. Announcers push that they're similar guys. Face slapping. Sombra points to the crowd and starts more slapping to the face. Back and forth. Both guys decide to point to the crowd rather than fight more. They're not that angry with each other. Springboard headscissors sends Diamante out. Next evasions ends with Sombra double jump twisting armdrag. Out goes Sombra. Diamante twisting plancha off the top rope, somewhere in between a tope con giro and a tornillo. Sombra got dropped on, didn't get a chance to catch much. Replays. Diamante brings it back in. Lot of whistling. Springboard 'rana turned into a powerbomb. One two NO. Sombra grabs a waistlock, Diamante tries to elbow free, Sombra tries again, German suplex, Diamante lands on his feet., Sombra clothesline caught into a sunset flip one two NO. Diamante is not looking very graceful with these moves. Corner whip, reversed, Diamante flips to the apron, clothesline Sombra down, springboard 450 splash misses but Diamante rolls thru, Sombra now on the apron but back in with a springboard plancha, Diamante rolls thru, one two NO. Lots of whistling. Not that this is a good match, because it's not, but he fan not carrying makes it a bit together. Diamante runs into a Sombra fireman's carry (?!), one two NO. Diamante corner charges, Sombra waves him in, inside cradle – no, Brillante Bomb. One two three.

Match 6: Rey Bucanero vs Mephisto for the CMLL Universal Championship tournament quarterfinal match

Notes: Mephisto is beating up Bucanero on the ramp when they pick up the match. Mephisto kicks Bucanero all the way into the ring. Ref is Tirantes.

Felino is rooting for Mephisto. Mephisto throws Rey thru the ropes, but Rey holds onto the bottom rope and hangs in. Bucanero kicks Mephisto out, and his slingshot tope con giro knocks over Mephisto. Bucanero taunt! Replays. Bucanero slaps Mephisto away, top rope plancha, Mephisto rolls thru one two NO. Mephisto wants a faster count, but Tirantes tells him to calm down. Bucanero tripped up, Mephisto off the ropes, and kick him in the chest. Devil's Wings. One two-quick countout. Bucanero quick cradle one two NO. Mephisto argues the count being too fast. Bucanero just kneels over and waits. Clothesline misses, Mephisto kicks him, double underhook, knees by Mephisto, Mephisto gets Bucanero, Bucanero gets back down and flips him over for a double arm suplex. One two three.

09/16 hype. It's at five PM. They hype the final of the Universal tournament, though they can't hype anyone being involved. Lots of highlights of matches we haven't seen from this week's taping.

Match 7: La Sombra vs Rey Bucanero for the CMLL Universal Championship tournament semifinal match

Notes: First announcer to remember this is a rematch for the title that got Bucanero into this tournament gets a gold star. Ref is Babe Richard.

Bucanero is sliding out on his chest, and Sombra is following with an Asai moonsault as the match is picked up. Replays. Back live, and Sombra is tope Bucanero hard. Replays of that, and they make it back to live action before anything else happens. Bucanero is still stumbling around the outside, so Sombra sets up for another dive, but Babe Richard blocks him up. Sombra backs up, and does a tope con giro over him. The triple dive spot is another thing that seems wasted in this tournament. Sombra's slow up, he may not be able to dive a fourth time right away. Plus, he throws Bucanero in. Fireman’s carry drop, rope flip tornillo moonsault senton, one two NO, Bucanero grabs the ropes. Not much time left. Sombra fireman's drop in the center of the ring. Felino now standing in front of the announcers desk and yelling. Moonsault into a moonsault gets knees. Bucanero firing up, then covering. One two NO. Firing up does not get him three. Lyger is hyped as the best wrestler from Japan, which is exactly how Tanahashi and Nakamura have been hyped. Bucanero Destroyer. Bucanero decides to yell and spit at Felino instead of cover, then goes out to confront him straight off. This is dumb. They talk, and then Bucanero decides that maybe he should go back in. Sombra jus back up – Brillante bomb, one two three. Crowd is happy.

Bucanero compliments Sombra, but blames Felino. It's all his fault for leaving. Sombra tries to talk about his win, but they cut away to follow Felino chasing after Bucanero.
