Match 1: Valiente vs Rey Escorpion in a lightning match
Arena Mexico, 08/12/2011

Winner: Valiente by DQ
Match Time: 9:50
Rating: okay/good
Notes: Entrances. Escorpion has new AJ bandana, which he draws attention to. Same letters are part of the design on his pants. Ref is Tigre Hispano.

Lockup, Valiente waistlock. Rey Escorpion out to an armbar, hammering the arm. Top wristlock. Valiente out to an armbar, sweeping them both to the ground, getting back up, rough armdrag onto the mat for an elbow lock. Rey escorpión tries to pull the mask to escape, but that doesn’t work. He does mange a reverse to his own armbar. More counters on the mat until standoff. Second lockup leads to both guys trying for leg holds before Valiente is able to scissors one of Rey Escorpion’s. That goes nowhere, and they’re up and slapping quick. Another try leads to move shoving. Valiente off the ropes, dropkick to the knee, splash, one two NO. Escorpion up with a chop. Whip, back elbow. Corner whip, Escorpion charges in and chops. Slap to the chest knocks Valiente down. Corner whip, no, Valiente it. Escorpion softens him up with a kick and a chop. Corner whip, Escorpion charges, Valiente kicks him away, and charges out – into a powerslam. One two NO. Four minutes down. Rey escorpión kicks Valiente, and drops him in the center of the ring. Quebrada connects one two th-NO. Valiente pulls his mask away from his mouth, because he’s breathing hard. Escorpion slaps him in the back as he gets up, Wagner Driver one two NO. Both up and slapping. Rey withs with a kick and a punch. Valiente sent into the ropes. Whip, reversed, Rey Escorpion jumps high, and Valiente surprisingly just spinebusters him, one two no. That looked like the set up to something else. Valiente Indian Deathlock! He hasn’t been putting that on of late, and he’s totally using the middle rope for balance. He gets called on it, and has to let go. Valiente waiting for Escorpion. Charge - but Rey Escorpion knocks him down before he can put on the monkey flip, ad puts on an ST of his own. They’re close to the ropes, so this isn’t going anywhere, and Valiente grabs the bottom rope. Rey Escorpion charges the corner, Valiente moves, Rey dropkicks the corner and bounces off on his head, Valiente ‘ranas him, one two NO. Another chop fight, Valiente getting knocked down by firing back. Unexpected high boot from Valiente but Rey answers with one his own. Escorpion charges, and manages to takedown the salida de bandera all the way to the floor. Valiente wasting no time – big tope shoves Escorpion over the first row of seats. Replay of that from multiple ankles. Rey Escorpion pounds Valiente on the outside. We’re past 8 minutes. Escorpion goes on, and Valiente gives him a stunner off the top rope. There goes Escorpion bandana. I think Valiente pulled it off in the move. Valiente up top, flying headscissors. Valiente fired up, but needs to finish this. Valiente charges, Rey escorpión tosses him behind to the middle rope and slaps him in the back a couple times. Valiente falls on the second, but Rey Escorpion goes to the outside and starts to climb away. They exchange forearms to the face and both climb up – but Rey escorpión blatantly fouls Valiente! Uppercut there. Tiger Hispano waiving this off, but Escorpion isn’t done – top rope powerbomb! Tigre Hispano give it one last look, pulls Escorpion off, and gives the match to Valiente. Rey Escorpion argues the point, not that’s going to get him anywhere.

Valiente is stretchered out, while Rey Escorpion celebrates anyway. I bet Ultimo is going to give him a talking too!

Stellar Moments

CMLL Informa:

Tania talks to the Champion of Justice. Delta had to buy a blue robe to fit in with this crew. Tania talks a lot, Atlantis talks a lot, Maya and Delta stand nearby.

Match 2: Atlantis © , Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Averno ©, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
Arena Mexico, 08/12/2011

  1. rudos
  2. técnicos
  3. rudos

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:51
Rating: OKAY
Notes: Entrances. Guerrero Maya is returning from injury. Oh, Delta has a hooded robe with a neck wrap, that’s classy. Monito is out with Atlantis, who is still using the Guerreros music. Probably need to get that fixed. Zacarias is out with Negro & Niebla. Guess Maya has decided he’s angry at Negro after all, because he charges him, misses, and takes the heel kick. Negro hiptosses Maya into the ring, and everyone else watches as they chest slap it out. Maya dropkicks Negro and follows with a tope, which gets the other four going.

1: Not for long! Niebla powerbombs Atlantis and turns him over into a crab, and Averno drops Delta with Devil’s Wings. And that’s it! Leo says that’s the faster fall in the history of lucha libre, and he might be right. The entire fall is replayed multiple times in slow motion, lasting about five times as long as the fall. Epic start for the new técnico trio!

CMLL Cartela: Seuxis hypes the Sunday show in Guadalajara. Ultimo Guerrero is included in this one, though you’d think someone would’ve noticed him being double booked. The Mexico one only plugged the Minis tournament.

2: Rudos still in charge. Boots for Delta. I don’t think the rudos remember/know what Guerrero Maya hurt, because they’re not going after it. They do treat him to Mr. Niebla’s armpit, about as cruel as it comes. Averno goes after Atlantis’ mask, but the crowd really reacts to Niebla dragging Monito to the center of the ring. Niebla runs the ropes in the most wacky fashion possible and legdrops the monkey. Meanwhile, Maya has managed to post Negro on the outside, but Negro flees inside to get some help. Negro bits Atlantis’ hand. Atlantis avoids corner charges and forearms Mr. Niebla to start the comeback. Delta headscissors Averno, Negro kicks him, and Maya hilariously yells “YAAAAA!” as he spears Negro Casas. Fired up punches and such. Maya is the best. Whip reversed, Maya ducks a clothesline, headscissors sends Negro rolling out. Maya runs, but Niebla trips him up and out. Clothesline for Atlantis as he hops around. Niebla dance, pose, spit, caught mostly, and a kiss for Babe Richard! That right there is a illegal move. Atlantis dropkicks Niebla out and follows with a top rope plancha. Maya plancha Averno on the outside, and fireman drops him in front of the corner. A lot of yelling here too. Maya took some time getting Averno in the right spot, and bends him over to set him up more, so Delta springboards over him to cut off Negro with a plancha. Delta runs back towards Averno, up top, moonsault is a bit long but that’s about normal. One two three. Cerebro Driver on Negro Casas, three count there.

Preview of upcoming action shows the Atlantis plancha that just happened. Booo.

CMLL Cartela: Eléctrico promotes Monday’s show.

3: Atlantis gets the better of bumbling Niebla and Averno. Monkey flips all around. Averno manages to kick Atlantis down just to take one more monkey flip to the floor. Quebradora for Negro, who rolls out to escape. Crowd actually chanting for Delta as he comes in! Chop fight won by Negro with a kick. Shoulderblock by Negro doesn’t knock Delta over, and Delta comes back with a monkey flip. Leapfrog is near tragedy, Delta roll spot meets stomp to the face. Delta crawls to the ropes, right near the técnico corner, though I guess he’s not going to tag. Delta lifts Negro to the apron, chop fight over the top rope, and Negro slips in a jawbreaker over the op rope. Delta fights back with a kick as Negro tries to slip back thru. Delta takes time to point before trying anything. Suplex in, no, Negro slips free, waistlock battle, Negro battles free, clothesline, Delta still up, Negro charges again, Delta just gets him over with a powerslam. That was a long way for that. Negro superkick, Delta superkick back. Negro wants out. Averno in. Delta gets him with a bad headscissors. Running for a dive, slowing dive, stepping over the top rope to the other side and off with a headscissors. He’s still Delta. Delta and Negro in. Crowd behind Negro now. Still not sure Negro knows why Maya is so mad at him. Slap fight includes Maya running in place before slapping. Negro stops him with a clothesline. Headbutt to the chest. Off the ropes, Maya cuts him off with a tope. Corner whip, Maya charges into a boot, Negro charges out into an armdrag. Maya clothesline misses, Maya drops him with a stunner. Huh. Averno in, clothesline misses, and May slap him. Corner whip, Averno stops short, Maya charges by for a springboard armdrag. Niebla in, his chop is ducked under, but Mr. Niebla still gets in a face slap. Rudo song teases, and Niebla soaks in the reaction with some wacky walking. Spit catch goes well. Niebla ask the crowd if they’d want another. He’s going to make them wait for it. Whip, clothesline misses, clothesline misses, Maya springboard reverse tope does not miss. Niebla side out, aided by Maya dropkick. Averno bulls Maya into his own corner with big swinging shots, and calls it Negro to kick Maya while he’s down. Maya up and exchanging slaps. Maya gets in the heel kick this time and starts for the Cerebro Driver, but Negro escapes to an inside cradle one two NO. Negro clothesline blocked, Cerebro Driver set up again, and Averno rushes in for the save. Negro seemed to have some problems with that. Averno posing, waiting for Delta to charge, and moving out of the way when he does. Averno gets flipped to the apron, fights Delta off, but gets tripped up by Maya, who was just wasting there for a moment. Maya holds onto Averno, and Delta does a top rope moonsault onto both of them. Atlantis knocks down Niebla and lifts Negro in the Atlantida, but knocks down the ref while spinning him around. Niebla immediately foul kicks Atlantis, and covers one two three.

Averno and Delta fight on the outside, with Maya down. Averno must’ve got the best of both of them, that’s no good.

CMLL Cartela: Pequeño Nitro talks about Tuesday’s title match.

Match 3: Último Guerrero vs Héctor Garza for the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship
Arena Mexico, 08/12/2011

  1. Hector Garza standing mounted arm scissors (5:10)
  2. Ultimo Guerrero inside cradle (1:34)
  3. Hector Garza corkscrew moonsault (10:27)

Winner: Hector Garaz, new champ
Match Time: 17:11
Rating: eh
Notes: Tirantes is ref. Hijo del Fantasma is Hector Garza’s second. Guess he’s over the last turn! Rey Escorpion is back out to second Ultimo Guerrero, who only has one of his belts. It is quite shiny. Rambo is the commissioner. He’s looking thinner. No weights are announced. Dr. Morales can not believe Tirantes was put in a match of such importance.

1: Match starts with five minutes of Ultimo Guerrero dominated mat work. None of it goes anywhere, like usual, but it’s a bit more creative than usual. Guerrero focuses on an ankle hold for a while, and Garza limps for a bit. Still, summing it up in four sentences seems a better use of all of our time. All this mat work leads to Garza pulling out something like a satellite armbar out of nowhere for the submission. Garza limps back to his corner.

CMLL Cartela: Pequeño Halcón hypes Tuesday in Guadalajara.

2: Garza bails to start so he can recover from his foot pain. Fantasma was twisting it around between falls. Garza shoulderblocks UG from the apron, slingshots back in, and puts up the top sing. Pants off, but UG meets him with a back elbow. Corner whip, reversed, UG kicks Garza as he charges in, Garza uses UG to hop to the top rope, stop sign, shirt off, but UG sneaks in a cradle, one two three. Serves Garza absolutely right for doing that in a title match.

Minis Tournament commercial.

3: Picking up with the senton de la muerte. UG goes for another, but Garza stands up, picks UG on his shoulders, and shoulder powerslams him, one two NO. Garza complains about the very deliberate count. Garza kicks UG in the shoulder as he stands, turning the third into a ‘rana, one two no. Hey, when did the refs stop wearing the Telcel ads? Tirantes is back to his old gear. Corner whip by Garza, UG hops over the charge into a sunset flip, one two NO. These long pauses in between falls are going to make this easier to write. Chop. Whip, Garza slides out, UG slides out after him, UG slides in, and knocks UG off the apron with a big running kick. Garza up to the middle rope, moonsault from there. Garza now grabbing his knee.  Garza in first, on his knees, there’s the required cavernaria. I’ve seen this match! It’s got about 10 more near finishes with long pauses in between them. I may keep count, I have that time. Both slow up, UG clothesline can’t knock down Guerrero, but the Garza chasing behind clothesline knocks down UG. Cover one two Tirantes stops counting because he thinks Garza’s foot is under the ropes. Not so much, though Rey Escorpion helpfully backs up Tirantes. That’s five total, by the way. Corner whip, UG sits on the middle rope and dares Gaza to join him. Don’t do it! Don’t do it! Garza slowly walks over, offers a handshake and slaps UG as he goes up. At least that’s idea. Of course, UG jabs him in the midsection and front superplexes him off. One two NO. 6! This is lagging behind Amapola/Estrellita right now. Someone has a Horuz t-shirt? Wow. UG slams Garza, slowly climbs to the top rope, and then stops there so Garza can hit him. Why did Magadan just bring up Alfred Hitchcock? Top rope superplex, one two t-NO. 7! Shot of a little Ultimo Guerrero fan marking out. Both up. Corner whip, Garza corner clothesline, corner whip the other way, corner clothesline that way, Garza sets UG up top. Hurracanrana? No, time for UG to block it and powerbomb him. One two th-NO. 8! They’re on break, time for more shots of kids. Both back to their feet, setting up for a suplex, but taking a while to do it. UG is blocked twice, and Garza lands his own. Time for the moonsault? Quebrada eats knees. UG springs to his feet, flips Garza on his back, covers, one two Garza has the bottom rope with both hands. Now they’re dead again. 9! Replay of UG getting Garza directly in the breastbone with that one. Both up, Garza misses a clothesline, UG tries a plancha (???? to infinity), Garza catches him, holds him, and spins him around into a sidewalk slam. One two NO. 10! C’mon, 14. Garza slams UG and goes up. Garza looks like he’s going to lose his balance for a second, but does not- tornillo moonsault one two three. Wow, that was just there.

Big celebration with Fantasma, Garza, and Hector Garza’s son (hitting the ring from parts unknown and hugging Fantasma first.)  Garza poses and thanks the fans. Everyone poses for pictures. Rambo’s clothes really look too big for him, I’m a bit concerned. Ultimo Guerrero sits up while Rey Escorpion tells the camera that his guy is till the best. UG gives the new champ a hug and raises his arm. Lots of replay of the finish, which landed as close as Delta’s moonsault did. Garza climbs up to the rowdy técnico section to pose with them.

Next Friday plug

Leo talks to Hector. Play his music again! He thanks the fans again. I believe he may be a técnico.

Trivial Question: how many times did Hector Garza and Ultimo Guerrero fight for this title? And that’s it.
