CMLL on Televisa #1036 (07/09/2011)
Recapped: 07/10/11

Announcers and Daniel Aceves talk about the show and the Bobby Bonales Copa.

Viernes Tapatios hype.

Tania talks to Hijo del Signo. Tania and Signo both point out the ten minute limit. Must be a coincidence.

Match 1: Rey Cometa vs Hijo del Signo in a lightning match
Arena Mexico, 07/01/2011

Winner: time limit draw
Match Time: 10:00 (and then some)
Rating: good!
Notes: Everyone is wearing Copa Bobby Bonales shirts. Signo is “Estrella de la Muerte?” I need to pay more attention, I guess. Ref is Terror Chino

The onscreen clock seems to have started before the whistle, but OK. Just a couple seconds. Couple lockups, nothing going. Rey Cometa slips underneath Signo and armdrag him away, but back to circling, Signo grabs Cometa in an armbar, takes him down, and brings him back up to an armdrag. Circle. Lockup, Signo flipped over Cometa' ship, and armdragged back to the ropes. Signo charges, single leg and toe hold by Cometa. This is probably not going to get it done, but Cometa tries, flipping Signo over to his stomach. Signo rolled to his feet, clothesline caught and brought into an armbar, then into a complicated side submission. Rolling Signo around, and around, and then a bit more around, until finally getting to cradle for two. A long way for a two. Zero pin exchange, leading up to a big spinning headscissors from Cometa on the mat. Signo gets sent to the ropes, but stays in, because he's seen a Rey Cometa match before. You must stay in! Circle. Lockup, big slap by Signo. Whip, flapjack, Signo tries to get a hold of Cometa on the ground and Cometa just keeps reversing away until he's got an armbar. Signo rolls thru, takedown, Cometa flipped to his feet and armdragged away. About 3 minutes in, and no one's gotten much control. Cometa grabbing his back as he walks around the ring. Off the ropes, over a drop down, and Cometa is flipped by a clothesline. Signo just threw his arm out there. Cometa breaks free, headlock, shot, off waved by, handspring backflip, Signo misses the clothesline, Cometa over the back armdrag. Signo holds up on the ropes, Cometa charges and gets flipped tho the apron, Cometa slap Signo, and marches to the corner. Up top, tornillo armdrag sends Signo to the far corner. Signo up and running with a boot, sending Cometa back to the corner. Signo charge, flipped to the apron, Cometa slaps him to the floor. Signo grabs his chest as Cometa goes up – moonsault to the floor! Cometa prefers to do his moonsault with a foot on the buckle and a foot on the ropes. It worked well there. Replays.

Five minutes in. Doctor checks on Cometa, who's grabbing his – chest? Tough to tell. Terror Chino just counts out both guys. Signo is on his feet but in no hurry to get in. He still makes it in first, Cometa coming in at 18. Signo kicks him and chops him in the corner. Corner whip, Cometa kips up and rolls out, but Signo team rolls him with a clothesline. Stomps. Whip, Cometa over, into a back elbow, rolled to his feet, whip, Signo dropkick flips Cometa, and a dropkick to the head knocks him over. Stomp. Spinning fisherman's suplex. Signo fixes his pants, stands over Cometa, then rolls him over to get a pin. One two no. Signo complains about the count being too slow! How about you just cover him next time? Cometa firing back with chops and a forearm, don’t get those here. Cometa off the ropes, kneelift and stomps on the ground by Signo. Signo being a bit intense with his amount and force in stomps. This match really hasn't had one guy or the other getting a run here, but maybe this is the start of one. Dropkick sends Cometa out, tope follows! People in the front row are a bit slow to realize they should be moving. Cometa is grabbing on this rib cage but getting back in a bit faster. Chino is either counting faster or there was a slight clip in here. Cometa to the apron, slapping Signo in the ring, and going up, but Signo counts him off with a super armdrag. Cover, one two NO. Cometa needs to do something here. Signo charges Cometa, but Cometa ducks under for an inside cradle, one two no, Signo hooks a double armbar and rolls it into a cradle, one two NO. We're down to under a minute, which the crowd seem to have picked up on. Signo 'rana, Cometa rolls thru, one two NO. Signo powerbomb, feet on the bottom rope, one two NO. Signo argues, Cometa cradles him, one two NO. 15 seconds. Cometa slaps Signo and pulls down the straps. This is (unintentionally?) framed perfectly, so you can see Cometa slapping himself on the chest and just standing there as the final seconds tick off. Signo slaps him, Cometa dropkicks Signo out – and that's 10:00. Time on the screen blinks, whistle blows, announcers acknowledge it, referee seems to have no idea. Cometa runs – tornillo connects! Too late, but it still looked good. Terror Chino counts them out while looking at the clock – I don't think he knows what that means! Someone eventually points it out to him and Chino stops trying to get to the double countout.

Replays. Cometa is grabbing his ribs again. Signo comes in, points out Cometa is down and eh is not, and Terror Chino directs him to the timekeeper, waving off his own involvement. Terror Chino raises both arms up, and Signo is very dispoleased. Signo is sure he won this match, not sure how. More replays.

Leo talks to Terror Chino and Rey Cometa, while Signo stomps off past them. Terror Chino is now an expert on ten minute draws. Cometa wants to continue the brawl with Signo at some point. He's still holding his ribs.

CMLL Cartelera: Sunday in Arena Mexico. Metal Blanco has his open mouth mask back for this promo, instead of all the other ones.

Match 2: Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro, Valiente © vs Misterioso Jr., Pólvora ©, Shigeo Okumura
Arena Mexico, 07/01/2011

  1. rudos

  2. técnicos
  3. rudos

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:32
Rating: OK
Notes: Is Palacio Negro using an Eddie Vedder cover of It's So Easy? I know nothing about music. Monito is out with Valiente. Mima is with Okumura. Misterioso wears his shirt tucked into his pants. He doesn't want to hide all the work he's put in the gym! Pólvora jumps Valiente after his name announced, and the other four guys just kind of watch as Pólvora beats him out of the ring. Poor Valiente gets posted with no help. Tiger Hispano is ref.

1: Valiente and Pólvora are ushered back to their corners. Blanco and Okumura battle on the mat. Somehow, we end up with Blanco doing an RVD spinning kick into the air, and Okumura mocking him with the crane pose. He's his own caricature! Those two keep going, though they almost immediately get off track following a jumping snap mare and make tags. Valiente and Pólvora are tagged in, and Pólvora decides to leave right away. Valiente decides to walk after him and dare him to come back in, but Pólvora insists on Valiente backing up. Valiente backs off into the ring, Pólvora puts one foot in, and turns around. Misterioso instead, so Palacio in too. I'm glad CMLL and Televisa thinks we need five announcers for these matches. Palacio Negro rolls and cartwheels out of an armbar, then jumps into applying an arm scissors. Palacio continues to be slippery, getting to an armdrag and back bridging out of a pin. Tags, and we're back to Pólvora and Valiente again. Valiente wants this so bad, so Pólvora walks out again and Okumura comes in. Valiente wants the other guy, but the rudos decide to switch to Misterioso. Slap fight goes Valiente's way. Trip, Valiente steps over Misterioso and slaps Pólvora off the apron. Headscissors sends Misterioso out, Valiente off the ropes, Pólvora trips him up and, Okumura dropkicks the técnico thru the ropes. Pólvora scoops up Valiente on his shoulder, and rams him right into the post! Rudos stomps down the técnicos on the outside, while the rudos clean up on each técnico. Palacio is brutalized on Okumura's brainbuster.

CMLL Cartelera: Sombra hypes Sunday in Guadalajara.

2: técnicos are all hurting, but the rudos haven't gotten to Monito yet. Valiente's mask is apparently ripped enough to get his face blurred, though tit still looks to be mostly on. Oh, the lower half is removed, that's it. Rudos hold him for Pólvora to slap down, once. Metal Blanco takes corner charges, including being whipped out for Polvora's dropkick. That seems to be his one move tonight, he's done it about seven times. Blurry face Valiente is back in and worked over in the corner. Clip here? Blanco is whipped into a headscissors on Pólvora taking him out. Valiente lands a moonsault on him, and they're both out. Palacio Negro in, running back and forth, and his handspring moonsault bodyblock doesn’t go quite as far as Misterioso is think it will. Oh well. Blanco wraps up Okumura, and that's it.

Valiente and Pólvora brawl out of the ring and back in it, with Pólvora still getting the better of it.

CMLL Cartelera: Mascara Dorada hypes Monday in Arena Puebla.

3: Blanco starts with a walk the ropes a couple steps triple jump 'rana on Okumura, who rolls out to the apron while Metal Blanco handsprings around the ring. Blanco tags in Palacio negro, since Valiente is still recovering on the floor. Palacio gets in a nice step over armdrag on Misterioso, then the handwalk 'rana into a forward cradle; that seems to be the new set up for that move. It still needs a bit of work, but Misterioso is thrown out of the ring. Okumura sises a dropkick, flips Palacio to the apron, takes a slap, and Palacio lands the top rope asai tornillo moonsault. Blanco follows with his own walk up the ropes triple jump moonsault, and we're back to Valiente and Pólvora. Pólvora throw a fit, misses a clothesline, and dropkicks Pólvora. Valiente to off the ropes, rope bounce 'rana, Pólvora rolls thru and hooks the bottom rope, one two three!

Valiente argues the rope grab to no avail. Pólvora yanks Valiente's mask, but when they're showing the crowd instead. Replays of the dives and finish.

People yelling includes a blurred out Místico mask.

Match 3: La Máscara ©, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada vs Averno ©, Ephesto, Mephisto
Arena Mexico, 07/01/2011

  1. rudos

  2. técnicos
  3. rudos

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 13:27
Rating: pretty good
Notes: Mascara Dorada has his new music here. He also has the Welterweight belt, to show he hasn't just been hanging out in Japan. New jacket too. La Mascara has a Mascara doll? I don't know why. Avernos enter together. Ref is Babe Richard.

1: Just like the last match, rudo captain attacks the técnico captain as soon as the captains are announced. Everyone joins in and this is a proper beatdown this time. Mascara Dorada takes a crazy hiptoss over the ropes and onto the loud ramp, and that gets a deserved replay. They could not be pushing the Friday show in Guadalajara any harder. Rebound hiptoss and Devil's Wings sets up Ephesto adding a legdrop for no reason and everyone piling on top for the pin.

Replays. Averno unties La Mascara's mask and goes to pull it off again.

Hype for Sunday's show.

2: Rudos try to choke the life out of Sombra. It does not take. Dorada is surrounded and hit before making a move. Big flapjack for him. Averno offers Sombra a free shot, and Sombra actually takes it! He needs to teach that to Dorada. Mephisto quickly kicks him down from behind. Triple boot sends Sombra out, and rudos do the triple dive fake and pose. Máscara takes the opening to sneak in front behind, tackles Averno, and starts pounding. His partners are just quick enough to figure it out. Mephisto and Epehesto holds Mascara, while Averno taunts the crowd. Averno grabs Máscara by the mask and yells at him. Averno gets a running star, but gets taken out by a Dorada springboard armdrag. Rudos kick him down, but Máscara topes Averno into the front row again. Strong forearm to the face on this one. Sombra knocks the other two with a tornillo plancha, técnicos set up rudos in front of the corners, Sombra lands the top rope moonsault into standing moonsault again, but Dorada goes for a crazy tornillo moonsault that may not have actually hit anything but is pretty spectacular. Camera misses much of it. Double pins for the finish.

Mascara slowly chases Averno around the outside and back in, but Averno walks off. They don't have a replay of Dorada's move!

3: Rudos and técnicos are having a discussion on the ramp when this fall is supposed to start. Técnicos back into the ring, and Sombra has a conversation with someone in the front row. Everyone ends up in their corner, and Dorada and Mephisto end up in. Dorada is fast running the ropes and being evasive, and sends out Mephisto with a nice headscsissors. Averno in, clothesline reversed into a whip, Averno rolls thru the ropes to the ramp and poses out there. What's Dorada going to do to him then? Dorada is going to charge, leap over and roll over the top rope (and over Averno), ducks his clothesline and hiptoss Averno back into the ring. Dorada backs all the way up the ramp – over the top headscissors, it's been a while! Averno runs before Dorada can dive out on him, so Dorada poses on the apron instead. Sombra and Ephesto in. Circle. Sombra off the ropes, clothesline misses, Ephesto oddly drops down and spins around, Sombra picks him up, whip, reversed, Sombra waved by, back with an up and over armdrag. Averno in, Sombra escapes a tilt-a-whirl, quebrada glances off of Averno, clothesline misses, Sombra rope bonce headscissors to send Averno rolling out. Sombra rope flips to fake a dive. Crowd much less anti-tecnico than they used to be. Mascara in, Mephisto in to deal with him. Slap fight as crowd chants for both men. Máscara strips off his shirt, to girl screams. Reveals lead to a Máscara dropkick tot he head, one two NO. Mascara was looking at the rudo corner like he expected trouble. Mephisto flips Máscara to the apron, Mascara straight superkicks Averno, then gets Mephisto with a swing kick. Ephesto disappeared as Mascara climbs up the rudo corner and launches off with an armdrag on Mephisto. Headscissors on Ephesto, and Averno is left to deal with him. Averno smiles. Mascara of the ropes, tilt-a-whirl armdrag sends Averno out right away. All técnicos in, Máscara tope on Averno, Dorada and Sombra trailing behind with corner tope con giros on the others! Rudos are wiped out. Replays. Máscara swings Averno back with a swing kick and catches him with a flying headscissors. Casadora into a cradle (?), one two rudos rush into break that up. Mephisto and Ephesto cut off the other técnicos from coming in. Ephesto slams La Mascara and all three go up – flying headbutt spot continues to fail, this one more than most. Dorada and Sombra in with a springboard 'rana, on Mephisto and Averno while Mascara cradles Ephesto one two NO. Rudos ditch Máscara and Sombra, and team up for a triple pump bomb on Dorada. One two three! Welcome back, Champ.

Sombra in, springboard dropkick for Averno and Ephesto to send them out. Mephisto kicks Sombra away, Máscara gets him with a plancha. Mephisto clothesline misses, Mascara dropkick to the knee, casita one two three!

Ephesto kicks Máscara into the corner, Mascara flips him to the apron, swing kick knocks Ephesto to the floor. Sombra up top – moonsault to the floor takes out Ephesto and almost gets Alexis too. Averno and La Mascara left in. Averno waves Mascara back, Mascara back with a headscissors, dropkick to the knee, casita, Babe Richard starts to go to count, then turns to look at something outside (Mephisto). Dorada, on the apron with one foot and one arm in the ring, implores Richard to run over count, and he finally does – one two NO. Babe Richard yells at Dorada to leave the ring, while Máscara gets Averno in a casadora. Campana about to be on, but now Mephisto is in, foul kicking Mascara blatantly. Referee missed it, but turns around to see Averno on top of Máscara, one two three.

Sombra quickly has the microphone and demands a rematch. Dorada yells the same on the microphone. You don’t need to yell on a microphone, that's what it does for you. Averno accepted – demanding a title shot if they win. And then Averno pretended to give Sombra the microphone a couple times while just messing with him. Mascara accepted, but wants a mask vs hair match when they win. Brawl breaks back out at that, with Averno grabbing Mascara's mask and stomping him.

Replays and wrap up.
