Rey Escorpion promo about his match.

Open is weirdly jumped from to get to the match. Galavision seems to be broadcasting the HD version on the SD feed, so the sides are cut off. Fine work!

Recapping the YouTube version of both Forjando un Idolo matches, though casually keeping track, it seemed like both matches were shown complete.

Match 1: Rey Escorpion vs Rey Cometa
Arena Mexico, 04/22/2011

Winner: Rey Escorpion
Match Time: 5:48
Rating: good
Notes: Entrances. Still no video for Rey Escorpion, as he's announced here. Ref is Terror Chino.

Cometa and Escorpion battle on the mat, leading to Comet landing on his feet off a monkey flip, and back bending out of a cover. Escorpion is confused, Cometa is a bit patient, and Escorpion chops him down. Stomp to the head. Cometa pulls down the top already. Hard chop back. Slap fight lead to Cometa booting Escorpion, and Escorpion flipping Cometa out with a clothesline. Escorpion yelling at Cometa. Off the ropes, over sliding under, missing a with a clothesline and eating a fireman's escape headscissors into an armdrag. Escorpion out, Comet teases the dive, handspring off the ropes, climbs to the top rope, and comes off with a great tornillo. Terror Chino wastes no time counting time out. Replay doesn't kick in until they start getting up and heading in. Escorpion misses on a dropkick to the corner, Cometa come in with a front flip, Escorpion moves, Comet lands on his feet, 'rana, one two NO. Escorpion wants to be sure that was two. That was a sweet looking 'rana. Cometa points to the crowd, and both guys rest on a knee. Cometa off the ropes, Escorpion tilt-a-whirls him, Cometa spins into a small package one two NO. This match is not nearly as over with the crowd as the Tuesdays ones were, but it's good. Escorpion slaps Cometa down just as soon as he gets up. Announcers are totally on board with the new name. Escorpion picks up Cometa, Michinoku Driver, one two NO. Escorpion threats to hit the ref for counting to slow, but the ref doesn't blink. Crowd boos. Escorpion crotches Comet in the middle of the ropes, chops him, and heads out to the adjacent ropes. Springboard wheel kick connects, out goes Cometa. Escorpion hurries – nice tope con giro to the floor. Escorpion proud of himself. Replays. Escorpion is untying Cometa's mask on the ground, but Ultimo interrupts him to ask what he's doing. Escorpion just looks at him and wanders off. Both participants back in on opposite sides. Clothesline counters, Escorpion with a front facelock and a reach around the back mask yank. Referee was looking outside and missed it, and Escorpion small packages Cometa, one two three. Escorpion gets his arm raised.

Ultimo Guerrero puts his hands over his head. He can't believe this. Escorpion is proud is himself. Ultimo goes to the referee to get an explanation. Cometa protests, but UG just assures him that he knows. Guerrero and Escorpion argue again. Escorpion shoves Guerrero, and Guerrero shoves the rudo down. Escorpion rolls lout, and backs away when UG wants to talk more.

Rey Cometa complains to Leo about being robbed. UG says the referee can't over turn it and the points are very important.

Match 2: Ángel de Oro vs Palacio Negro
Arena Mexico, 04/22/2011

Winner: Angel de Oro
Match Time: 10:18
Rating: very good!
Notes: Entrances. Palacio Negro is using “It's So Easy”. Referee is Tiger Hispano.

Palacio puts Angel de Oro in the leg spread earlier, and they get into a battle of who can hit each other hard while still in the old. Angel de Oro is not winning, but Plata turns it over and so they both can headstand, and they slap each other while doing tied up headstands! That's exactly what I want out of my lucha libre. Palacio Negro has to bridge up with Angel de Oro on him to escape a pin. GDL tries a casadora armdrag, but Oro cartwheels out of it. Palacio Negro kips up to meet him face to face. Palacio walks around, then goes back towards Oro – who shoves him down, into the ropes. Palacio gets up and chops, then turns around when Oro is ready to hit him. Negro stops spinning Oro fires back, and a chop fight break it up. Both fired up. Oro clothesline misses, Negro clothesline misses, Oro dropkick misses, Negro flipped to the apron, Negro chops Oro away, Oro swing kicks him off the apron. Angel runs to the corner, leaps to the outside of the corner, and moonsaults off in one motion. Nicely done. Clip? Oro sets negro up on the top rope. Don't slip! Oro goes for Palacio's mask. I didn't know they had issue, but they're wrestling like it. Negro pulled down into a Tree of Woe, and Oro gives him a running kick to the chest. Replay doesn't make the kick look so good. Negro handspring off the ropes, flips over Oro, and starts there to get superkicked. Probably shouldn't do that last part. Whip, Negro back, into a flapjack and another running kick. Oro says something to UG and goes back to follow up. Oro shoves into the corner. Jabs the midsection, to the face, and a slap to the chest. Negro tries to fire up, but Oro whips him in the corner. Corner whip, Oro charges in, Palacio swings around in the corner for a 619 kick to the midsection. Negro off the ropes, under a clothesline, under leapfrog, over a droll into headstand, back flip into a headscissors to send Oro to the apron. Palacio off the ropes, walking up the ropes, and off with a springboard headscissors on the ramp. Negro had to go farther than he expected there and didn't get a lot on it. (So let's how a replay.) Negro makes it back in while Oro recovers on the apron. Oro points and grabs his back. Is he waiting for something? No, he's just walking back to the ring. Palacio meets him with a forearm. Suplex in, Oro gets loose, drop toe hold, casita, Negro shoves him off, into the corner, Negro charges, Oro puts him on top. Oro waves his hand, backs all the way up, and stomps him feet. Can't tell what Oro is trying by the camerawork, but Negro cuts him down with a missile dropkick and the crowd approves. Palacio: “SI!” Finish him! Nudo Lagunero like lock – Oro is suspended from the mat with his legs tied over Palacio's knee, and one of Oro's arms is wrapped around Oro's neck while Palacio locks his hands behind Oro's head to hold him up. Tiger Hispano waves no, and breaks it up. Ultimo Guerrero demands an explanation, as the announcers explain it was a choke. Palacio has time for a brief answer before resuming his attack. Kick. Whip, Angel de Oro flips to the apron, Palacio Negro kicks thru the rope and gets trapped, and Oro superkicks him. Leap into a springboard moonsault one two bridge out. Palacio Negro hops a top Oro's shoulders, turns (after a try), 'rana one two NO. Angel de Oro tries to start a chance, does not succeed. Both slow up, off the ropes, clip dropkick to the knee, rolling legdrop, one two NO. Palacio charges Oro, misses a clothesline, reverse roll up one two NO. Both guys are exhausted. Palacio Negro takes off his wrist tape. Oro clothesline misses, Palacio Negro uses another self choke to take Angle de Oro down and lay him on his stomach. Palacio signals to the crowd before going up. What's he trying? Oh good lord, the RVD thumb points and a frog splash connects! One two NO. I'm not sure if I'm happy about that or not. Palacio is definitely not – he's seen that move win all the time and argues the count with Tiger Hispano. Angel de Oro misses a clothesline, Palacio kicks him in the midsection, and lifts him up in the Gori stretch. Angle de Oro in a lot of trouble here, but breaking free with one arm. Angel de Oro trying to fire up, getting free, roll thru, Both up, Angle de Oro kick is blocked, Palacio Negro headscissors cradle, Angle de Oro reverses it and puts his legs thru – Ultimo Guerrero puts his hands on his head, he knows! - mecedora is on. Palacio Negro hangs on, but loses it once the campana is on. Win. Great match.

Angel de Oro says he was just a tiny bit better.

Monito hangs out with the kids.

Match 3: Héctor Garza, Hirooki Goto ©, Volador Jr. vs Atlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr., Último Guerrero ©
Arena Mexico, 04/22/2011

  1. Team Goto

  2. Team Goto

Winner: Goto (2-0)
Match Time: 9:00
Rating: fine set up for next week
Notes: Matches out of order! Guerreros enter as a group, jump cut to them being jumped. Goto's team pulls of the Guerrero's kilts and slap them with their own gear. Referee is Babe Richard.

1: Slow holding people to be hit, usually UG being held. UG whipped, Volador and Garza both leapfrog him, Garza heel kick to the midsection, Volador superkick to the face, Goto top rope elbow drop. Goto goes for the mask while Garza holds off the help. UG thrown out, Atlantis brought in. Volador superkick count: 2! Garza gets in the blindfolded head kick. Dragon Rojo is lifted for a Volador front cracker. Director is in love with finding shots of kids in the crowd. Corner whip, UG sidesteps a charge by Garza, backbreaker for Volador. Atlantis & Rojo crotch Garza on the post. Richard is busy with that, missing the action behind him. UG swings at Goto, Goto ducks under, rips off Volador's mask (!) and tosses it to UG. UG throws it down, but Babe Richard turns around and just assumes UG did the work himself. DQ. Garza kicks Dragon Rojo down for no reason, and then is surprised to know he won. Replay of some ingenious work by Goto.

Goto and UG have a standoff on the stage.

Volador talks to the kids.

Cartela: Tiger Kid talks about the Arena Puebla show.

2: Despite the finish, Guerreros in control. Dragon Rojo lands the flying sit on Goto. Garza content to stand in his corner and watch this. Everyone else goes to their corner after that last move, so I guess it's OK. Hector bullies Dragon Rojo, Dragon comes back with armdrags, Garza stops him with a kick and insists Babe Richard keep Atlantis out. Garza misses a corner charge, Dragon Rojo goes for the tights, and Babe Richard makes the save. Dragon trips up Garza on the ropes, inside out dropkick connects. Volador in, stopping to look at the crowd. Dragon Rojo misses a clothesline, Volador gets in a front cracker. Volador stops to pose for pictures. Off the ropes, no, just hanging on the ropes for a while until Dragon Rojo gets up. Kick caught, Volador sings but can't reach, Dragon Rojo spins him and comes back with a headscissors. Something is wrong when Dragon Rojo is giving Volador a headscissors. Volador out, and Dragon Rojo chase him a bit. UG and Goto in and exchanging chops. UG breaks out a spinning back slap that gets them running. Clotheslines are ducked until UG can land a clothesline. Corner whip, UG clothesline, sliding dropkick sands Goto out. Volador missile dropkicks UG, Dragon tries to big boot UG, Volador catches it, and now it's Dragon Rojo who can't reach Volador. Volador spins him, under a clothesline, sliding out, Dragon Rojo sliding out after him, Volador in, Dragon Rojo tries to get in, Hector cuts him off with a kick to the head. Hector points to Volador, Volador off the ropes, off the other ropes, tope con giro. Atlantis dropkicks Garza and slaps him down. Whip, Garza back into a quebradora con giro. Atlantis runs – tope onto Volador! Everyone up, Garza to the apron, moonsault onto everyone. Captains in. Off the ropes avoidance, Guerrero kicks deflected, and Goto takes him down with a hard clothesline. Goto yells, lifts up Guerrero and drops him with a vertical suplex into a sit out sideslam – Shouten Kai – which doesn't look so great. It does get one two three for the win. Crowd seems surprised, then a bit upset.

Goto challenges UG to a title match next week – with the announcers 'translating' because we can barely hear him. Goto declares himself #1. UG, as he has often lately, accepts a title challenge while laying on his back. They get into a fight, with Goto hammering UG with a clothesline and going for his mask again. Garza and Goto hold of help, but we're off to replays anyway.

Arena Mexico, 04/22/2011

  1. rudos

  2. técnicos
  3. técnicos

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 16:41
Rating: good
Notes: Tirantes is referee

1: Fans are behind the rudos, but Panthers keeps Averno marooned in the ring for a while, and hands over to Sombra. The spot where someone inside cradle but the other guys kicks out into a double armbar is everyone in CMLL's favorite new spot of 2011. Averno keeps getting close enough to a tag that the rudos are sure he made a tag, but the técnicos pull him back and the rudos protest. Máscara gets in to take over, and armdrags Averno, who manages to stay in. Not sure he meant to. Mascara hits the ropes again, Averno must do something we don't see, Máscara turns towards the rudos and they yank him out of the ring. Double chops ends Máscara in to the front row, and Averno clears out the other two himself. Thru the ropes dropkick on Panther to knock him to the floor. Sombra takes the Infernal bump for the pin.

Atlantis talks to the Kids. Atlantis explains he's only a rudo in the ring.

Cartela: Euforia promotes Tuesday's show in GDL.

Shocker hypes the 05/10 show for Mother's Day. 1 peso for all moms, and photos with their favorite luchadors (like Shocker, Strong Man(!), Volador, Hector Garza, Hijo del Fantasma and more.)

2: 16 minute break between falls. Rudos grab Monito, but we don't see what becomes of him. I believe he lives. Mephisto top rope splash on Monito! Máscara tries to save his blue friend, but gets kicked in the face. Monito is slid out to him. Beatdown is on. Panther goes mad dog and spits at Mephisto. Mephisto is amused. Panther held for a hard slaps, but still keeps coming until he's finally knocked down. Averno and Ephesto go after Mascara's mask as Mephisto takes care of the other two. Monito is stretchered out! Panther slapped around. Replay of Sombra getting kicked questionably low. Lots of brawling. Rudos get a bit lazy and Mascara gets a headscissors on Averno, but Ephesto stop him before he gets rolling. Other rudos hold Mascara for Averno. Máscara spits at him, and Averno kicks Mascara for his insolence. Averno poses in celebration of kicking a man who was held by two other men. Corner whip, reversed, Mascara charges, Averno flips him, Mascara blocks and swing kicks him. Up top, flying armdrag gets Mephisto when Averno bails. Ephesto misses a senton, takes the springboard dropkick from Sombra. Sombra hurrying – tope con giro onto Ephesto. Other four all in, but Panther and Mephisto quickly knocked down. Mascara bumps Averno, springboard into a casadora into a campana. (Leo Riano: “DING DONG! DING DONG! DING DONG!”) Mephisto tries to break it up, but Panther cuts it off with a sunset flip, turning into a farmer's roll right around Mascara. That'll do it! Rudos give to both olds, técnicos take the fall. Cheers and then boos and then more cheers.

3: Rudos more than happy to run from the técnicos between rounds. Mephisto takes monkey flip on the ramp. Mascara nearly pulls of Averno's mask on the top rope. Then kicks him so Averno pulls his own mask off by mistake. (Blurred.) Things get sorted back in the ring for Averno and Máscara to continue, headscissors and armdrag sends the captain out. Other rudos kick Mascara down, Sombra springboard dropkicks them both out and the técnicos set up – triple tope! Everyone down on the outside.

Panther and Mephisto make it back in first. Panther escapes a tilt-a-whirl and lands on top of Mephisto for two. Panther gets a takedown and starts for the nudo lagunero, Ephesto breaks that up. Ephesto shoulderbreaker one two NO. Sombra puts on a chinlock, and Sombra breaks that up with a springboard dropkick. Sombra fired up. Fireman's carry drop in the middle rope, springboard flip into a standing moonsault one two NO. Sombra argues the count with Tirantes, but it was a fair count. Sombra starts to set up a tapatía on Ephesto, but Averno breaks that up with a kick. Boos, and Averno encourages them. Clotheslines miss, Averno kicks Sombra, Devil's Wings. One two NO. That count was definitely faster. Máscara gives Tirantes a stop sign and takes off his shirt, then argues a bit more. Máscara off the ropes, casadora into a – no, Averno squirms away. A drop toe hold, casita, one ...two...th-NO. Mascara unhappy with the count. Dr. Morales is losing his mind. Máscara off the ropes, waved by, back for a 'rana – no, Averno blocks it, and the other rudos blow Máscara up with dropkicks, one two Panther and Sombra break the pile up. Everyone running around, técnicos all try toll ups, rudos all try pins with feet on the ropes (except Ephesto, too far away) but técnicos all kick out. The people clear out until Sombra headscisosrs Mephisto out and it’s just captains in. Averno chops down Sombra, but Sombra uses him to pull up to the rope for a moonsault to the floor. Panther and Averno now, firing up the crowd before getting start. Averno off the ropes, into a quebrada con giro. One more, Averno escapes, time killing submission. In the meantime, Máscara lands a plancha on Ephesto and goes for the casadora campana. Avernos sees it coming, lets go of his hold, and rips Mascara's mask off. That's a DQ.

Next week: 05/06 Mascara Dorada, Terrible, Texano, Strong Man, Ultimo Guerrero, Averno plus Forjando un Idolo.
