Match 1: Metro, Stuka Jr., Valiente © vs Misterioso Jr. ©, Pólvora, Shigeo Okumura
Arena Mexico, 04/08/2011

  1. técnicos

  2. rudos
  3. rudos

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:37
Rating: OK
Notes: They're actually mentioning Metro used to be Romano in his introduction. Or the one Magadan is doing, anyway. Mima is with Okumura, of course. Tiger Hispano is the referee. Misterioso dumps Stuka on his back before the match gets started. Just out of habit, I guess. Don't put him on the top rope, Stuka!

1: Pólvora in to start for the rudos, but Stuka wants Misterioso, and shoves him off the apron. Pólvora is offended. Eventually, we end up with Pólvora and Valiente. Pólvora tries Valiente, fails, tries again. Valiente holds him in leg holds for a while, until Pólvora is able to power out of it. Valiente gets free, puts the holds back on. Pólvora escapes, right into a Valiente sunset flip for a near fall. Corner whip leads to Valiente flipping out of a monkey flip and scaring Pólvora with his hop. Tags. Metro and Okumura. Chop fight. Okumura runs the ropes, block a hiptoss, and clotheslines Metro down. Okumura tries running again, and then walks right into a Metro's giant hiptoss. Okumura thrown down by the back of his head, quebradora con giro, and a dropkick. Okumura hides in the corner, and Metro charges right into your living room with a corner flipping body press. Misterioso races in to get Metro while he's not paying attention, but Valiente takes him down, and Stuka lands a top rope splash. Pólvora is not sure if he wants to bother breaking this up. Stuka's pin is counted first, even though Metro covers first, so that's the end of the fall. Valiente still powerbombs Pólvora, and that pinfall gets counted too. Fans boo.

2: Rudos in no hurry to start. Pólvora wants another shot at Valiente, so that's what they get. Pólvora runs himself into a backdrop, and then into a sort of side faceslam. Valiente covers, and Okumura saves with a dropkick. Stuka backdrops Valiente to safety, gets in a flipping run on Okumura, and headscissors him out. Misterioso in with a plancha on Stuka, and manages a rebound armdrag to send Stuka out. Misterioso poses, unaware Metro is behind him. Monkey flip! Pólvora in, Metro ducks a clothesline but still gets dropkicked out. Valiente with a plancha on Pólvora, Pólvora shrugs him off. Valiente elbows Okumura off the apron and headscissors Pólvora out. Valiente running, but Okumura trips him up and pulls him out. Misterioso in, directing Okumura to hold Valiente, running, stopping and direction, running, stopping and directing again – well, this isn't going to work. Misterioso tells Okumura to back up once twice thrice, and then gets tripped up band pulls out by Stuka. Metro runs down the ramp and lands his tope con giro – but on Stuka, not Misterioso, who moved. Rudos converge on Valiente. Gory stretch, Okumura misses a dropkick, Gori Special, Pólvora frog plash, one two three.

Riano appears to be yelling random super hero names for no particular reason. He's like Robin because he was just standing there! Quick to the break.

Tania talks to Ultimo Guerrero and Escorpion. Ultimo Guerrero has his old Flanangan mask and shows off an article and picture of him beating Mr. Aguila. Ultimo Guerrero endorses Escorpion, who doesn't actually get to talk here. And that's the segment.

3: Rudo brawling to start off. Valiente is double booted out of the ring. Técnicos held for chops. Pólvora works over Valiente with kneelifts tot the midsection and dropkicks him out. Misterioso tries to start an “otra” chant for his own chops. (Does not work!) Double clothesline to Metro misses, he flips over backdrop, and Pólvora take the double clothesline. Valiente and Stuka dropkick other two – triple tope!

Everyone but Metro and Okumura end up back in. Misterioso and Pólvora whipped into each other, but they spin each other around and charge. Técnicos sidestep, and both rudos sit on opposite top buckles. DANGER! Valiente boots Stuka to Misterioso, who of course sets him up for his favorite finish. Okumura returns to clothesline Valiente, and loads him up top Pólvora. Rosa Driver, Super Pólvora Driver (missed by the camera of the most part), and Okumura gets a figure four on Metro for good measure.

Replays and chats with fans.

Tania talks to Ultimo Guerrero and Escorpion again. This time, Escorpion gets to talk. He's slightly nervous and a lot looking for his words, but he's confidence since he's got Ultimo Guerrero as a partner. Escorpion is winning this for his kid.

Stellar Moments

Tania talks to Hirooki Goto, who says about five words. And then this ends!

Match 2: La Sombra, Rush, Strong Man © vs Atlantis, Hirooki Goto ©, Negro Casas
Arena Mexico, 04/08/2011

  1. rudos

  2. técnicos
  3. técnicos

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:21
Rating: fine for a Strong Man match
Notes: Zacarias is with Negro Casas. Monito is with the técnicos. Rush meets Goto on the ramp for some reason, and gets chucked back in the ring. Tirantes is the ref.

1: Rudo brawl to start, and somehow Atlantis has to deal with Strong Man. Eye pokes are the only solution. Negro ditches Sombra and helps out, as Goto plays around with Rush. Rudos mange a double suplex and a senton on him. Corner charges for Sombra. Why is there confetti around the ring? Zacarias smacks Sombra with the pan, and Sombra slaps Zacarias beak. Cruelty to animals! Double crack finishes him. Corner charges on Rush, and Goto adds a top rope elbow drop to finish.

Tania talks to Mascara Dorada & Metal Blanco. Metal Blanco is wearing his welterweight championship belt. Dorada talks in this one. They've got his Metalik mask.

2: Rudos still in control. Rush is held for Goto to work over with kicks. Sombra gets a headbutt from Negro. Rush back in for more. Whip, under a double clothesline and up to wheel kick Goto in the face. Whip again, and Rush taunts it into a tope on Goto. Strong Man in and taking care of both rudos as Rush kicks Goto around on the outside. Strong man sandwiches Atlantis in the corner, puts Negro on the top, catches his cross body and fallaway slams him. Sombra just Negro, and goes up – rope flip moonsault has looked better, but it looks better than Strong Man's second rope splash on Atlantis. Nearly broke a leg on that one.

3: Goto and Sombra. No, Rush wants Goto, and Goto wants away from Rush. They end up with Negro chopping rush in the corner. Rush turns it around with slap and chop. Crowd does not approve. Corner whip, Rush charges in, and eats a boot. Negro out, clothesline, Rush won’t go. Negro off the ropes, powerslam. Rush off the ropes, double stomp. Crowd boos Rush the entire way. Rush walks around aimlessly, Goto runs and kills him with a clothesline. Stomps. Rush up and slapping. Chop fight break out, Rush slapping Goto in the face and yelling at him. Off the ropes, Goto runs by and wheel kicks him. Pose. Whip, and Atlantis pulls Rush down by his hair from the outside. Sombra protests, doesn't get far. Rush kicks Atlantis down on the apron when we're looking the wrong way. Corner whip by Goto, reversed, Rush flipped to the apron, Rush fights Goto off, up top, missile dropkick connects. Crowd boos Rush the whole way. Pose. Sombra hops in the ring to face Atlantis. Atlantis tries to allege that he's much taller than Sombra, which doesn’t appear to be true. Sombra evades on the run until he can get a rebound armdrag. Atlantis out after that. Goto in and kicking. Another chop fight. Sombra pulls off his shirt and the fight break out again. Sombra does not fair well. Whip, Goto back with a shoulderblock. Spine kick. Goto of the ropes, over, picking up Sombra and whipping him, missing, missing, and Sombra grabs a headlock. Not sure what was supposed to happen there, but neither did they. Sombra whip, powerslam. Dropkick, and Goto goes to the apron. Rush, standing on the apron, stomps Goto to the floor. Negro stops Sombra with knees, and an antagonizes Strong Man. Sombra’s left arm is heavily wrapped. Sombra turns around a whip, drop toe hold, off the ropes, dropkick to the face misses, Negro’s kick misses, Sombra flips up, flips away from a kick catch, and dropkicks Negro right out. Dive? NO, Sombra slings himself to the floor and faces negro. Negro decides to walk away. Atlantis in, but he's stuck with Strong Man. Atlantis gives Strong Man a piece of his mind. Pose off! Atlantis shoved down. Atlantis up, and shoulderblocked. Whip, Strong Man spinebuster, Strong Man cover, Negro breaks it up with slaps. Whip, Strong Man breaks up the double clothesline, but the rudos kick him away. Suplex – no, Strong Man blocks it. Rudos off the ropes, into a double goozle – double chokeslam looks a lot better on this show. Strong Man fired up and stomping his feet. I still have no idea what he's setting up. Oh, right, the double shoulderblock. Posing. Take it home. Sombra and Atlantis back in. Sombra is the one técnico they'll cheer for. Chop fight leads to Sombra dropkicking Atlantis out. Goto slaps around Sombra, Sombra flips to the apron, forearms Goto in the side of the face, and springboard in with a dropkick to send Goto out. Sombra sets up, runs – up the corner off with a plancha on Goto. Other four in, Rush whipped, but Strong Man flips him to safety. Double shoulderblock by Strong Man, Rush plancha on both. Técnicos lift the rudos and drop them for the finish. Tirantes reluctantly counts three.

Fan interview.

Tania talks to Mascara Dorada and Metal Blanco.

Match 3: Escorpion & Último Guerrero vs Máscara Dorada & Metal Blanco in the CMLL Gran Alternativa Tournament final match
Arena Mexico, 04/08/2011

  1. técnicos

  2. rudos
  3. técnicos

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 13:44
Rating: good but missing something
Notes: Metal Blanco has a Guadalajara sombrero. As does Mascara Dorada. Escorpion has no video. Babe Richard is referee. They need to work on Metal Blanco's ring introduction.

1: Escorpion and Dorada start off, Dorada way too fast for Escorpion and the cameras. Either they're in just a short time, or there’s a clip. Ultimo Guerrero and Metal Blanco, which seems like a rough deal for the técnico. They're much more about a slow battle on the mat, with Metal Blanco fighting for a cross armbreaker for a while. Blanco and UG go to a standoff on the mat, but UG takes it back down and holds Blanco on the mat some more. Hey, look at Ultimo Guerrero talking to him. Probably shouldn't zoom in on that. Metal Blanco picks up the pace, but runs into a feet on a corner charge. UG runs out for a sunset flip, but Blanco rolls thru and Dorada comes flying in with a springboard splash. Both up, Dorada spun around to Escorpion, but Dorada rolls him backwards for a double chickenwing suspended hold (a cristo on his back, basically) while Blanco wraps up Escorpion with a springboard 'rana.

Cameras find people making out. They're just so happy the Guadalajara team won! (Probably not.)

2: No hurry to start. UG and Blanco in, evasion, Scorpion kicks the ropes as Metal Blanco jumps on them, UG clears out Dorada. Escorpion chops Metal Blanco around. UG press Dorada, walks around, and dumps him in the front row. One fan is just very excited about this and has to be walked away by security. Replay of the press slam. Corner clothesline for Blanca, and UG adds the senton de la muerte. Blanco crawls out. Dorada is able to evade his own charge, but gets hug up on the second rope. Escorpion gives him an inverted 'rana from there for one pin, while Ultimo Guerrero ties Metal Blanco in a bizarre hold for the other submission.

3: And now, for real. Dorada evades UG for a while, then gets him with a springboard headscissors. Escorpion rushes in and knocks Dorada down. Escorpion stomps Dorada out of the ring. Metal Blanco seems to be having issues breathing in that mask, or maybe that's me imaging things. Dorada gets back in the apron, and springboards in for a headscissors. Off the ropes, double spin headscissors barely hangs on, but it' enough to send Escorpion out. Dorada slide out after him, Escorpion misses the clothesline, Escorpion tosses Dorada up, Dorada on the second rope, Dorada rolls to the apron and jumps off with another headscissors. Replays.

Rudos are suddenly in control of the ring, but they quickly misses a double clothesline on Dorada, and Escorpion is clotheslined out. UG seems to miss a corner charge on Blanco, and the técnicos are left in. Blanco tells Dorada to go – Brillo Dorada onto Escorpion, landing on his feet. Metal Blanco rushes up the corner, beautiful tornillo in one motion. Replay. Dorada landed that dive easily.

Blanco and UG down in the ring, next time we see it. UG knocks down Blanco, and grabs his legs. Blanco uses leaves to jump to UG's shoulder, quick 'rana, one two Escorpion makes the save. Crowd has noticeably cleared out on the ramp side. Escorpion yells at the crowd, picks up Blanco, and drops him with a sit down powerbomb. One two Dorada dives in to break it up. Dorada jumps on Escorpion’s back, casadora powerbomb, one two NO. Both up, Escorpion chopping. Whip, Dorada tossed up, and dropped with a cutter! One two th-NO. Escorpion misses a clothesline, Dorada back with a spin into a casadora cradle. One two th-NO. Escorpion and UG talk strategy, but Dorada picks Escorpion up and drops him in front of the corner. That probably wasn't the plan. UG puts one foot in the ring as Dorada stops in front of an adjacent corner, then charges in as Dorada starts to climb. Dorada crotched, and UG goes up to join him. Blanco stops that by slipping under UG and pulling the rudo off onto his shoulders. Blanco dumps UG in front of the corner, and Dorada comes off the rope with a 'rana on Escorpion. Count – one two NO, though Babe Richard held up a bit there, and the crowd lets him know. Técnicos regroup. Corner whip to Escorpion, UG plants him on the top rope, Dorada charges in, UG tosses him there too. UG charges Blanco, Blanco waves him by, and UG sits on the top rope. Blanco goes up to join him, frequently a bad move. Rudos have control – stereo front superplexes. One two t-NO! Escorpion looks exhausted. Dorada looks in best condition, waving on the fans. Blanco up and posing. Everyone slow to actually stand. Técnicos lift the rudos on their shoulders, and drop them in position. Blanco sets up UG much closer to the ropes, hmm. Stereo Asai moonsaults, Dorada nailing Escorpion in the chest with both knees. Cover, one two NO. Escorpion talks to UG about something as they all slowly get to their feet. Técnicos with springboard headscissors and cradle, but this isn’t going work either. One two no. Rudos suddenly fire up. High ten, They each grab a man, Metal Blanco planted up on the top rope, Dorada near the ropes, high ten exchange, Guerrero Special on Blanco, quebrada on Dorada. One two THREE. That was sudden. Crowd is mixed.

Rudos celebrate. Edecans come to the ring with small glass trophies, still in their cartons. Handshakes all around, even for the referees, and the técnicos present the rudos with their trophies. Pose for pictures.

Replays. Rudos talk about the win. Escorpion seems touched by the win and talks up his partner a lot.

Next week: a lot of lucha libre

Announcers recap.
