CMLL FantasticMania 2011 (Day 1)
Recapped: 02/07/11

Announcers discuss the card! They're very jolly about Máximo.

Ring announcer must be so sad about not getting to announce in the ring.

Match 1: Taichi vs Máximo
Korakuen Hall, 01/22/2011

Winner: Taichi
Match Time: 12:39
Rating: good
Notes: Match is delayed for Taichi to get off his coat. Dramatic coat removal! Ref is a Japanese man.

After a couple of lockups go nowhere, Máximo decides to stat spinning away from them. Waistlock goes poorly for Taichi. Máximo get the waistlock, and Taichi is quickly freaked out. Double wristlock leads to kiss attempt. Máximo bend over backwards and Taichi jumps on him – yea, that goes bad too. Armdrag sends Taichi away. Taichi clearly has done a poor job of scouting! Waistlock takedown leads into a bad situation for Taichi. Taichi adjusts himself, I did not need to see that. Zero count pinfalls leads to a Taichi armdrag. Taichi gets a cross armbreaker on the next pass, but Máximo turns free and gets on Taichi's back. Taichi tries to stand up from it, Máximo fights him, Taichi ends up in an hammerlock. Continued battling on the mat doesn't go anywhere, but Máximo sends Taichi flying on the loud ring with an armdrag. CINCO MINUTOS. I want CMLL to start doing that. Corner whip, Máximo sidesteps a charge but gets elbowed anyway. Snap mare, chinlock by Taichi. Máximo stomped down. Corner whip, Taichi charge in with a splash, Máximo sidesteps (sort of) and rips off Taichi's pants – luckily he happened to be wearing his trunks underneath, though they're quite tiny. Taichi reacts for a bit, then mule kicks Máximo, bends him over, and pulls Maximo's pants all the way up – the ensuing wedge exposes far more of Maximo's backside than we ever needed to see. Taichi spanks it for no good reason. Of all the spots to go back to, Taichi choose this one. Máximo asks for one more – crowd is amuses - and Taichi does it. Elbows and chops by Taichi, but Máximo comes back with a strong one of his own. Chop fight goes badly for Taichi. Taichi pulls down the strap, Máximo freaks out and pulls it back up, , slap to Taichi's face, off the ropes, cartwheel over, back, under a clothesline, and back once more with a headscissors. Crowd loud for the first time. Máximo waits for Taichi to get up, butt bump, race to the corner, and a springboard butt bump there. Máximo asks the crowd if they want one more – no, go for the pin. Oh, after ten seconds, you're going for the pin, that' snot going to work. One two no. Máximo jokingly ask for a faster count. Spinning armdrag sends Taichi out, and Máximo follows with a nice tope. No barricade here, and Taichi is sent far into the seats. Taichi crawls towards the ring while Máximo goes back in – another tope! Count – in English and Spanish! Máximo taking his time walking around, while Taichi crawls to the ring. Chop. Fireman's drop, and Máximo is headed up. DIEZ MINUTOS. Senton con giro, no one home. Taichi charging forearm misses, Máximo reverse rolling cradle, one two no. Máximo lifts Taichi up, Taichi break free and rakes his eyes. Hard kick to the head puts Máximo down. Taichi roars. Thumb across the throat. Crowd calling for Máximo, but Taichi kicks him in the side of the head. One two NO. Taichi thought that was it, but recovers quick. Kick is deflected, Máximo blocks everything, kiss – this is a longer one than usual. Inside cradle one two NO. “ONE MORE!” Máximo looks at the camera, and Taichi cradles him up one two NO. Taichi off the ropes, into Maximo's sit down powerbomb, one two NO. Máximo seems about out of moves. Whip, Taichi off the rope s with a 'rana one two th-no. Máximo charges Taichi in the corner, Taichi grabs him and loads him up – Black Mephisto. One two three.

Oh right, I don't have to time matches for this show, it's right there on the screen. How nice for crazy people. Speaking of crazy people, Taichi is exhausted by happy with this win. Taichi helps Máximo up and raises his arm. Ring boy gave Máximo an ice pack, which he holds to his head as he takes bows.

Interviews with both guys. After listening to Japanese for the last twenty minutes, I can understand Spanish better than ever. Not sure how that works!

Match 2: Máscara Dorada vs Ryusuke Taguchi for the CMLL World Welterweight Championship
Korakuen Hall, 01/22/2011

  1. Dorada fireman's carry bomb (4:23)

  2. Taguchi inverted gori stretch (1:40)
  3. Taguchi Dodon (5:30)

Winner: Taguchi
Match Time: 11:33
Rating: ok. Dorada is very limited when he's immobile.
Notes: Hooray, the ring announcer gets to be in the ring for this one. Taguchi seems serious. Mascara Dorada is wearing the sombrero and other western gear and coming out to theme I associate more with Los Dinmitas. It's GUADALAJARA, so it works. Dorada has all three belts. Comforting to know the lightweight belt still exists. Referee can't get Dorada's belt off of him, how embarrassing. Signs Dorada is hurt: no flip in the ring, he posts on the bottom rope, and Dorada can't quite get out of his pants. The last one draws some giggles from the crowd and approval once he escapes. Dorada has to spin it around himself and undo it himself. Ryusuke is just announced as “Taguchi”.

1: Shake! Fine sportsmen. Mexico chant! Lockup, Dorada with a waistlock, Taichi to an armbar, Dorada rolls free to a single leg and twists the foot, Taguchi breaks free to a legscissors, then rolls around until he's got a sort of reverse figure out. Dorada escapes to a standing kneebar. Escape to a zero count pinfall, and standoff. Lockup, both wrists to the ground, Taguchi put his knee over Dorada waist, he rolls to his back, Taguchi covers for zero. Taguchi with a single leg, and the start of a crab on the right leg. Dorada slaps his leg and yells to the ref – that's the leg with the knee brace visible thru the tights, and Dorada sure seems to want Taguchi to work over the other one. Dorada tries to escape to a bow and arrow, but it doesn't really come off. They're in to the ropes anyway, so Dorada breaks and bows. Shoulderblock, off the ropes, lifted and dropped awkwardly into a spinebuster. One two no. Things aren't looking right now. Lockup, and some obvious discussing going on., They let go and Taguchi slaps Dorada one. Taguchi slaps back harder. Taguchi unmoved by Dorada's chop, but Dorada dropped by Taguchi. Dorada giving up a couple inches and some weight here. Dorada off the ropes, rollover, into an armdrag, armdrag back the other way. Both go for dropkicks, neither hit, standoff. Dorada waves for cheers, then realizes Taguchi is waiting for him. Dorada single leg . Off the ropes, over, under, Taguchi rolls out, Dorada follows with a tope. Both men struggling on the outside. Dorada back in at 11, Taguchi on the apron at 16. Dorada charges, punch misses, and Taguchi shoves him away. Springboard dropkick, one two no. Taguchi load up, clothesline blocked, and Dorada lifts him up. Death Valley Bomb, one two three. Three? I guess so! Confused by Dorada winning a fall without flying or rolling someone up.

Fans are a bit slow to realize this is a 3 fall match, but it's a bit unusual for them. Dorada interacts with the crowd as the ring boys work over Taguchi's shoulder. Dorada runs up the corner and thinks about talking the ropes, but doesn't get far before Taguchi comes in.

2: Circle. Taguchi still favoring his right shoulder and arm. Dorada takes him down with a dropkick to the knee. Punch to the head. Dorada yells at Taguchi to bring it, and they get into another chop battle. Dorada seems to be doing better this time, but sneaks in a kick. “MEXICO!” Not a time to get over confident. Corner whip, charge, Taguchi side steps the splash and cradles, Dorada rolls thru, Taguchi dropkicks, but only really connects with a foot because Dorada rolled so far. One two no. Time calls are for the total time, which is odd to me. Corner whip, reversed, Dorada charges in, Taguchi flips him to the apron, Dorada springboards in, but Taguchi cuts him down with a dropkick. Taguchi grabs him – Falcon Arrow. One two no. Taguchi grabs Dorada up – inverted Gori Stretch! Taguchi just lets go – because Dorada gave? Oh, he gave. That was not immediately clear but I can see it on the rewatch. Announcers were just as baffled as I.

Dorada gets his right knee iced. He fires up at rignside, and then immediately starts limping badly. This looks bad. Dorada stalls on the outside for a bit, but the referee insists he actually continue the match.

3: Taguchi immediately attacks the leg with kicks. Half crab, Dora get the ropes. Taguchi brings him into the center for a modified STF, but Dorada eventually fights free of that. Taguchi keeps him down with axhandle to the back. Dorada keeps trying to get up, keeps getting knocked back down. Chop, and Dorada stays up to answer those. They switch to forearms, neither budge. Dorada off the ropes, under a clothesline, quick turn and flapjacking Taguchi. Sliding dropkick one two NO. Dorada off the ropes, spinning headscissors. One two no. Dorada off the ropes, charging- brilliant looking tope con giro. Dorada rolls back in at 8, Taguchi pulls him back out and gets in at 12. Dorada gets on the apron and 15, and Taguchi enziguris him off. Taguchi running – Silver King dive drops Dorada. Taguchi quick back in at four. Dorada pulls himself up, but is not so hurt that he can't raise an arm to the crowd. In at 11. Taguchi grabs him – suplex, holding on, suplex, holding on, suplex, cover one two NO. Taguchi off the ropes, casadora reversed into a faceslam by Dorada. Dorada slaps the mat to get the crowd going, then grabs one of Taguchi's legs. Taguchi swings with both hands, Dorada evades, and Taguchi bodyscissors him, one two no. Taguchi loads up, clothesline misses, Dorada grabs the ropes, Taguchi whiffs on a dropkick, and Dorada dropkicks him in the face on two NO. Both men tired, but Taguchi looking worse at the moment. Dorada goes for a step up headscissors, but slips or get hurt halfway. Taguchi quickly grabs him – Tiger suplex, one two no. Now they're doing time count for the fall. Taguchi grabs him again and drops him with chickenwing facebuster - “Dodon” - one two three. New champion.

Taguchi dances while Dorada rolls out of the ring in pain. Taguchi helps Dorada up and raises his arm.

Long interview with an emotion Taguchi. No words from Dorada.

Match 3: Jushin Liger vs La Sombra for the CMLL World Middleweight Championship
Korakuen Hall, 01/22/2011

  1. Sombra rope flip legdrop (4:30)

  2. Lyger Indian Deathlock with chickenwing (2:12)
  3. Lyger brainbuster (10:36)

Winner: Lyger (2-1)
Match Time: 17:18
Rating: very good
Notes: Sombra rope flips into the ring. Lyger, the light to Sombra's shadow, is wearing all white. As Lyger circles around the ring, Sombra circles around inside it, then challenges him outside of it. Sombra tries to pull the title away. No luck. Shove for Liger! Shove for Sombra! Wait for the whistle!

1: Crowd chants for Lyger. Sombra chant in response. Lockup, battling for a grip, Sombra rolls thru an armbar, but can't contain Lyger on the mat. Lockup, Lyger hammerlock, Sombra headlock, leg pick, around on the mat for a bridging waistlock pin, one, conventional cover, one two Lyger out into a headlock, Headlock takeover. Sombra tries to headscissors out, but Lyger fights him off. Headlock. Shot off, Lyger back with a shoulderblock. Lyger off the ropes, over – no, stomp. Lyger waves his finger no. Whip, reversed, Sombra leapfrog, drop down, head down too soon and Lyger kicks him in the chest good. Twice. Clothesline sends Sombra out. Crowd skatters. Lyger starts running, but Sombra jumps back up the apron – springboard dropkick sends Lyger out the other away. TOPE! Lyger goes sliding thru all the floor seats. Sombra grabs his head. Referee gives them some time to recover before starting the count. Sombra circles around before going in. Lyger comes back in the same way he left. Sombra clothesline misses, Lyger charge into a tilt-a-whirl slam. One two no. Think Sombra lost him a bit there. Corner whip, reverses, Lyger charge in, Sombra moves, Brillante Bomb. One two no. Sombra rope flip moonsault, once more – this more a rope flip legdrop from how he landed, one two three.

Announcers discuss Lyger winning the Universal championship as he recovers. No to the water. Sombra walks out of the ring to rest and heck his right knee between falls. No one seems quite sure how to react to the fall breaks.

2: Both men charge, and Lyger lands the spinning back elbow. Chop. Whip, Sombra cartwheeling over, back, a bit lost by grabbing a headlock. Front facelock, Lyger out of it to a whip, quebradora con giro! Lyger’s proud of that one. Sombra picked up, waistlock, reversed, Lyger grabs the ropes, Sombra rolls way. Sombra flipped to the apron, Lyger doesn't get much with his punch, but Sombra gets more with his forearm. Springboard - no, Lyger axhandles him in the chest, knocking Sombra to the floor. Lyger up top – plancha! Both men down on the floor. Sombra flexing that right knee again. Lyger's not going to let Sombra lay there. Sombra fights his grab, but Lyger throws him back in the ring. Powerbomb? Sombra 'rana one two NO. Sombra pounds the mat in frustration. Waving to the crowd. Off the ropes, right into the shotei. Well, it was niece. Powerbomb. Indian Deathlock with a chickenwing, rolled on to his back – and Sombra gives. That was a bit fancy to make a point, I think.

Sombra ices down his knee between falls. Lyger wants to start while Sombra's outside loosening up. Sombra gets the fans to chant for him and then charges back in.

3: Charging dropkick – misses. Oh well. Whip, shotei ducked, Sombra back with a headscissors. Shoulderblock, Sombra hands in between the ropes. Lyger checks this out for a bit, but is completed to charge – and go thru the ropes a Sombra moves. Lyger gets back on the apron, but Sombra knocks him off with a corner springboard. Sombra hops to the top rope – moonsault to the floor! Both recover on the floor for a bit. Sombra rips off his shirt, he's serious now. Lyger thrown back in. Sombra walks around the ring, coming in to the other side. Springboard 'rana dropped into a powerbomb. One two NO. Sombra rolls out – and Lyger bowls him over with an apron tope con giro, landing right in front of the announce desk. Lyger throws Sombra back in, climbs thru the ropes, and gets snuck into an inside cradle, one two no. Casadora cradle, one two NO. Whip, reversed, Sombra with a forward roll into an inverted figure four. Lyger in trouble here, he's positioned in the corner of the ring. Lyger pounds the mat in pain. Lyger gabs the ref, which isn’t going to help but is funny. Lyger crawls to the ropes as the crowd chants for – both? More for Lyger? Lyger moves towards the ropes, but Sombra turns the hold and pulls Lyger away. Will Lyger give? He's think about it, but no. Lyger reaching. Reaching! Sombra cranking in the hold - and pulling Lyger back again! How can Lyger last? Lyger grabbing into the ref again. Lyger in immense pain. Is he going up? Sombra pulling him back farther! Lyger tries a different direction – he's pretty much down a 270 around the ring, but he finally gets the ropes. That was great. Sombra off the ropes, snap kick misses, Lyger inside cradle, one two Sombra escapes into a double armbar. Lyger in trouble again, and screaming. Lyger spinning his body around, and finally getting a foot on the ropes. Sombra might have tired himself out with the submission attempts. Both men are slow up. Sombra up far quicker. Half crab, puling Lyger towards away from the ropes. Sombra gets both feet over, but Lyger gets tot he ropes a lot quicker. Sombra needs to try something else. Lyger rolling around in pain, and Sombra sets him in the center of the ring. Quebrada, no one home, into the standing moonsault but Lyger gets his knees up. Lyger gets up real quick for a man who's taken a lot. Powerbomb, Sombra flips free, Lyger kicks him, brainbuster, Sombra slips behind, waistlock, Lyger elbows free, Sombra dropkicks him out. Sombra points the ropes on the outside and signals his intentions the crowd. Springboard reverse tope connects! That's how he won by countout over Lyger in the Super J. Both men are down now, not clear Sombra’s going to make the count. The count doesn't even start until Sombra makes it back in, because the referee is checking on both men. Lyger is just stirring at 14, and Sombra's thinking he's going to win this. Lyger collapse at 16 – but slides back in at 19! Sombra thought he had this one. Fireman's drop. Sombra going up. Second fog splash one two th-NO. Lyger says this is going to end it. BRAINBUSTER. One two three.

Lyger and Sombra eye each other warily after the match, but do shake hands and raise each other's arm. Lyger gets his belt back. A bit of intermission.

Sombra is totally out of his breath in his interview. He promises to prepare more to win back the championship for his people. Sombra's got a really cool mask tonight.

Match 4: Gigante Bernard & Karl Anderson © vs Atlantis & Shigeo Okumura for the IWGP Tag Team Championship
Korakuen Hall, 01/22/2011

Winner: Gigante Bernard & Karl Anderson
Match Time: 13:24
Rating: not as bad as feared!
Notes: Atlantis still gets We Will Rock You. Okumura shares the entrance because Okumura doesn't get his own entrance. The referee may be Tigre Hattori. Giganto Bernard is looking especially Gigante. Atlantis has no idea what is going on with the ring introductions. Making the machine gun noise for Karl Anderson is funny. This one maybe doesn't need play by play.

Anderson and Okumura feel each other for a while, then Bernard tags himself in. Okumura runs, but Bernard calls in Atlantis anyway. Oh no! Is Atlantis' HOF candidacy helped if he's killed in the middle of the ring? Lockup, and Atlantis gets thrown cross ring. Atlantis a bit alarmed now. Atlantis tries running and hitting, but gets run over by a shoulder block. Atlantis incredibly able to stop a corner charge with a double boot, and knocks down Bernard with a missile dropkick. Actual pinfall try, though Bernard kicks out easily. Anderson tags in as Bernard reovvers on the floor, but Atlantis ducks a clotehslien and topes the big man. Karl punches Atlantis around. Where is Okumura? Anderson charges Atlantis, and eats a quebradora con giro. Okumura’s in the ring now- tope con giro onto both men. Atlantis back in, but going up. Top rope plancha onto the champs! Just when I think they might have a plan tow in by countout, Atlantis brings Anderson back in. Backbreakers! Tag to Okumura, but Anderson comes in to help kill. Champs have some rudo bumbling issues, but take Okumura out with a double boot. Atlantis is dropped to the floor. Okumura rallies, but Bernard trips hi up, and Anderson slingshots legdrops him on the apron. Bernard destroys Okumura on the outside. Back in, but Anderson can't get the win on a knee drop. Bernard elbow drops Okumura, but he kicks out. If this was three falls, Okumura would've lost eight times already. I don't know how that's possible, but I know he could do it. Anderson and Bernard take turns pummeling him. Okumura surprises Anderson with a clothesline, and tags in Atlantis. Near fall on Anderson with a dropkick. It takes two dropkicks, but Atlantis is able to send Bernard out. Okumura and Atlantis with quick tags and axhandles to Anderson’s arm. Quick knee drop from Atlantis, uncommon. More axhandles to the arm – Atlantis mixes up a headbutt. I have no idea why they're attacking the arm. Something to do, I guess. Bernard makes the blind tag to a whip and wipes them both out with a clothesline. Anderson slams them both in the corner, and Bernard splashes both. One two no. Corner avalanches for other, and then both at the same time. Vader Bomb onto both – no, Atlantis got a leg up, it seems. Bernard is blended. The challengers shoulderblock him in the gut twice. Double suplex? YES! Atlantis covers, and Bernard easily kicks out. Okumura covers and Bernard easily kicks out. Both cover, and that troubles Bernard slightly. Six move combo by the camps on Okumura, ending with an Anderson senton, but Atlantis makes the save. Bernard flattens him with a fallaway slam. Bernard out, Atlantis out, Anderson whips Okumura reverses, Okumura kicks, front abdominal cradle, one two no. Okumura DDT, Okumura yells, clothesline misses, Gun Stun. One two three. Ah.

Bernard is not happy with Tokyo Sports!

Okumura and Atlantis discuss the giant man. Revenge! No, don't push your luck.

Bad Intention uses naughty words! The translator calmly explaining what they just said is the best part.

Match 5: La Máscara & Tiger Mask IV vs Dragón Rojo Jr. & Tomohiro Ishii
Korakuen Hall, 01/22/2011

Winner: Dragón Rojo Jr. & Tomohiro Ishii
Match Time: 10:10
Rating: historically bad
Notes: Dragon Rojo has music that I don't actually recognize, but he hasn't really had solo music in about two years. Mascara's music I know. Mascara is wearing a Brazo designed mask. Ominous sign – he slips just getting on to the apron. A dad has a kid in a Tiger Mask on his shoulder near the entrance, just in position so Tiger Mask can slap hands. Tiger Mask just keeps on walking past him. Ishii clothesline him right of the apron to get started.

While Ishii chokes out Tiger Mask, Dragon Rojo launches himself with a tope con giro on Mascara. Brawling. Ishii and Tiger Mask end up back in, Mask escapes a charge and lights Ishii up with kicks. The longest forearm battle ever breaks free, until Tiger Mask finally kicks Ishii. Dragon Rojo and Tiger Mask IV have a wrestling exchange! If you had told me that one luchador had been really poor in this match, I would've bet the house on Dragon Rojo Junior. (I'm glad you didn't tell me that, I like my house.) Back elbow, clothesline., sliding corner low blow dropkick. Ishii tagged in, going after the mask. Dragon Rojo should explain to him how it's better to set the guy on the top rope when you do that. Various kicking and punches. Tag to Dragon Rojo so he can do more of the same. “VIVA MEXICO!” Crowd cheers, because they're a nice crowd. Tiger Mask comes back with a quebradora and a hard kick, then tags Mascara. Mascara waits on the top rope. Flying armdrag is a bit odd. Mascara runs the ropes very oddly enroute to a headscissors. He's got his body low, like he's speed skating or something. Mascara takes off his shirt. Quebradora is blown. Mascara goes for Dragon Rojo's mask, and Ishii breaks it up. Dragon Rojo with a slow tip of Mascara on the ropes. Crowd not into this match at all, which is throwing Dragon Rojo. Inside out dropkick to the head, with a bit of delay in it. Mascara grabbing his head, which eh should be at this point, which is part of what's going on, but I wonder if he got concussed on the opening dive or something. Ishii rushes cross ring to brawl with TM4, which surely means he knows something is up. Dragon kills time untying Mascara's mask while Ishii goes after TM4's. Mascara looking very slow and tentative on a rope 1 on 2 bit, and his rolling dropkick is so bad, you can hear laughter. Mascara tope is woefully short. This is so bad. Mascara grabs his head again. Referee goes out to check on Mascara. Meanwhile, TM4 drops Ishii with a sit down powerbomb. TM4 tells Mascara to go up – have you been this watching this match? Missile dropkick is nearly on point. Quebradora, cross armbreaker, Dragon Rojo breaks it up. TM4 throws Dragon Rojo out (though Rojo doesn't know it at first.) Crucifix rollup on Ishii, Dragon Rojo breaks it up. All four in, and Mascara looking way out of it. Mascara slaps Dragon Rojo out of the ring in an unconvincing manner TM5 drops Ishii with a Tombstone for 2. Tiger Mask goes for a Tiger Suplex, but Dragon Rojo breaks it up. Ishii accidentally dropkicks his partner, but powerslams TM5 one two Mascara breaks it up. Mascara is clapping like a crazy person and kind of in the way as he just lays on the mat. TM4 and Ishii take each other out, leaving Dragon Rojo and La Mascara in. What a poor idea! Dragon Rojo not really sure Mascara is going to do anything he's supposed there. Mascara lands a swinging kick, but slips climbing the ropes, then slips jumping off of them. Now the announcers are laughing. La Mascara won’t get up, so Dragon Rojo puts on a rings armbar. TM4 breaks it up. Match pauses for a bit, because it's suppose dot be Mascara and Dragon Rojo. GO HOME. They exchange chops instead, crowd not at all into it. They keep going threw spots and Mascara blows a casadora, Dragon Rojo just sits down to pin him, one two three. I'm not really sure that was supposed to be the pin, but that was the end.

Ishii randomly turns on Dragon and goes after Tiger Mask, because they've got a apuesta mask tomorrow and haven't heated it up at all. Ishii ends up with Tiger Mask's mask.

Match 6: Hiroshi Tanahashi, Místico, Prince Devitt vs Averno, Shinsuke Nakamura, Tetsuya Naito
Korakuen Hall, 01/22/2011

Winner: rudos
Match Time: 14:34
Rating: good!
Notes: Místico is wearing a white/silver version of his Averno Devil Horns mask. Devitt and Tanahashi present Black Cat's son and daughter (in-ring, with a picture.) with flowers and a banner. The daughter has a short speech for the crowd. Rudos enter as a group. I'm disappointed we're not calling him Principe Devitt, but only the white guys get first names. Místico balances on the middle rope for no apparent reason.

Místico and Averno start. Wait, no, Místico pulls off the horn mask to show a more traditionally one, then holds the horned mask like it's a piece of garbage. Crowd approves. STOMP THE MASK.

Denser Místico match than he's been doing, say, in Guadalajara in front of the same amount of people. Místico and Averno do intermix with the other four and those two guys get moments, but the match was built around Místico doing Místico things. The crowd was greatly into Místico, treating him like the biggest star of the group. Místico had a very good night, though a bit frustrated why his clapping/stomping prompts didn't lead to longer reactions. Averno ripped up Mistico's mask early, Místico did the same late. With the other four out (Nakamura slingshot tornillo on Tanahashi, Devitt out on his own, Naito taking out with a 619), Averno kicked out of the Toyota roll and threw off La Mistica. Averno pointed to the crowd, referee looked, foul kick and Devil's Wings gives Averno an actual win in Japan.

Averno & Místico make challenges for the next day. They keep making it clear that Japan is Mistico's second home. Averno attacks Místico, Místico headscissors him, but Averno pulls the mask. I love how the young guy has to take off his own shirt to cover up Místico. CMLL really needs that, it's great fun.

Averno promo is fun. Hey, I can understand a lot of this Devitt promo, huh. That’s it.
