Previously: Solid got beat up and whined about it. Marco and Solid agreed to watch each other's backs, and failed. Amazing Kong debuted and teamed with Mini Park.
In the Treachery locker room, Lizmark is angrily hitting things, so loudly we can (clearly) hear them from outside the room with the door shut. He's angry about what Super Nova did to Sydistiko last week. A mystery person has an envelope, knocks on the door, and hangs the letter o Lizmark. Rellik is off sitting in the red light in the corner of the room. Lizmark is very pleased with the letter, but that's all we find. Exciting.
Nigel and Lalo set the scene in Las Vegas. Later: more in the heavyweight tournament, Mini Park/Kong vs Tigresa/Chi Chi, and “Big News!!!”
Match 1: Marco Corleone ©, Octagoncito, Súper Nova vs Medianoche, Neutronic ©, Pequeño Halloween
Thomas and Mack Center, Las Vegas, NV , 08/07/2010
Winner: técnicos
Match Time: 5:02
Rating: OK
Notes: Teams are entering as a group this time. Medianoche, who appears to be Saber Claw from last week, now has a robe and a new mask, plus is from the Bermuda Triangle. Pequeño Halloween has moved back to Tijuana! Man, that guy moves around like once per taping. This doesn’t look good for the rudos.
Halloween and Marco start, and that goes bad for Halloween. Rudos quickly triple team him, just in time to each the triple plancha. Técnicos all in and clearing out the ring, with Pequeño Halloween taking the big sliding bottom rope out, and the smaller técnicos following with tope con giro. Marco sets up for his own dive, but Neutronic cuts him off with a dropkick. Neutronic still looks in less than fantastic shape. Neutronic dropkicks Marco out. Nova in, Neutronic misses him, Nova dropkicks Halloween, but Medianoche stops him with a dropkick. Double team chest breaker on Nova, Medianoche adds a splash on top. Marco in and punching. One for Neutronic, one for Medianoche, Halloween's plancha is caught, but that gives enough time for the bigger guys to kick Marco's legs out. Corner whip, Medianoche corner clothesline, Halloween boost and jumps at him, Marco catches Halloween, sets him on the apron and punches him down, but Neutronic sneaks in a springboard dropkick. Nova back in, chop fight between the two. Everyone else has gravitated towards their corners. Nova rolling dropkick sends Neutronic out, Nova teases, the dive with a handspring back flip. Tag to the mini, Octagoncito slips coming in and Halloween grabs him. Other rudos waved in, rudos whip Halloween the other way – but Marco pulls down the middle rope and out goes Halloween. That was just odd. Rudos turn around, right as Nova plancha them. Double clothesline misses, Octagon boosted into a headscissors on Medianoche. Armdrag sends Neutronic out. Marco back in – Air Corleone on the bigger rudos. Halloween sneaks back in, but Octagoncito is waiting for him – spinning headscissors, another one sends Halloween to the ropes, casita one kickout. Huh. Close to the ropes. Halloween punches from his knee, inverted suplex into a - jawbreaker, maybe? Lalo says inverted jawbreaker, why not. One two three. (4:02)
As the announcers (who sound way out of tune with their previous commentary) explain the idea of captains rules, Nova splashes Halloween form the top rope. No cover, and Medianoche pulls his partner to safety. Nova waistlock Medianoche is shoved off, Medianoche sunset flip, one two reversed, one two no. Both back up. Nova 'rana, one two three. (4:32)
Again, emphasis on the rules. Neutronic kicks Nova out, but miss a charge on Marco. Marco left. Corner whip, head down too soon and very obviously fed for a kick. Neutronic off the ropes, Marco drops him with in a back suplex into a side slam, one two three. Nigel says Mark of Excellence, so he remembers old SmackDown gimmicks too. (5:02)
Next: the tournament continues, plus that tag match
Ad for the show in the Bojangles Arena.
Replays of the finish.
Rebecca Reyes tries to find out what was in Lizmark Jr.'s letter, but Octagoncito isn't saying. (I guess that's his bit?) That was less than useful. Rebecca is about to wrap up the non-interview when Pequeño Halloween (already in street clothes) turns up to hit on her. Rebecca wants nothing to do with him and shoes him away, but this bit continues as Rebecca gets a phone call from a girlfriend - she's in town, why not meet later? Pequeño Halloween dramatically forms a plan!
Lalo and Nigel give us the brackets for the heavyweight tournament
Marco Corleone vs ?
Charly Malice vs ?
That's about as helpful as Rebecca's interview, though we do learn Malice faces tonight's winner. As best I can figure, this turns out to the Big News!!
Marco is upset with Solid for missing that last match, and Solid explains he had to talk to the commissioner – about a match with him and Lizmark. Was that a really long conversation that took place before the show and during it, because I'm not quite sure how Lizmark could get that letter just as the show started but Solid was still talking to the commissioner during the opener. Anyway, Marco thinks Lizmark/Solid makes no sense - “he's going to slaughter you!”; Solid says everyone is banned from ringside - “Even better, he's going to slaughter you even worse!” Marco tells Solid not to take the match, but Solid takes the match.
Match 2: Lizmark Jr. vs Solid in a Masked Warrior quarterfinal tournament match
Thomas and Mack Center, Las Vegas, NV , 08/07/2010
Winner: Lizmark
Match Time: 1:29
Rating: not good, but not intended to be good
Notes: Hey, look at all those empty seats near the stage. The cameras are all set up to make it very hard to see past the first five rows, and the entire arena is dark, so they could be in pretty much empty building. They could pretty much be in any building. The entrance set is actually less impressive given the extra room – no video monitor. Solid is weighing in at 355 pounds? This is a serious Solid, a Solid seriously about to lose. Multiple cut ins to Marco watching backstage. Your ref is fat.
Solid charges and squashed Lizmark in the corner. Shoulders to the midsection. Lizmark puts a stop that with a forearm to the back, and continues on that for a while. Chest slap. More Marco watching TV. Lizmark suplexes Solid, barely. One two Lizmark pulls him up. Lizmark off the ropes, legdrop. One two pulls him up. Marco now walking to the ring. Chest slap. Marco now running to the ring. Corner whip – no, Solid awkwardly pushes Lizmark into the corner. Marco still running. Lizmark back elbow, DDT, one two three.
Lizmark stomps Solid more. One more legdrop. One more legdrop! The horror! Marco's made it as far as the stage, but Neutronic, Tinieblas, Rellik, and Mini Halloween (who's changed back to his ring gear!) work over Marco, and hold him as Lizmark chokes out Solid. Quick cut from the choke to the stage to see Super Nova make the save. There's already a stretcher out for Solid. Unidentified Skinny Guy in Black Shorts helps out Super Nova, as Marco breaks free and rushes to the ring. Neutronic get a hold of him, but Marco kicks free and checks on Solid rather than charge after Lizmark. Lizmark taunts Marco once he catches up the rudos.
Coming up: that tag match.
Replay of the finish.
Backstage, Solid is stretchered to an ambulance.
Backstage, elsewhere, “Charly Malice and Rellik are still brawling”. Didn't think I saw Charlie out there before, but ok. Charly’s thrown shoulder first into an equipment chest, , and Rellik tries to run him over into another, all while continually saying “Charly!” Charly does dodge the second, and fights back with his usual punches, but Rellik stops him with a kneelift. Whip, reversed, and Rellik goes into a guard rail. Charly hits him with a plastic garbage can. Maybe you want to find something a bit stronger. They both fight over to a wooded pallet, but Malice takes backdrop on top and yells a lot. Rellik taunting Charly again. Rellik gets a chair, and the chair shots are cleverly hidden behind a laundry hamper, so we hear them but don't actually see them make contact.
Backstage, back with Marco. “What are my thoughts?” Better questions, Rebecca. Marco feels bad he didn't stop Solid from that match, Lizmark just sent his best friend to the hospital, they've been going back and forth for four years but now Lizmark's crossed the line. Marco vows to cross the same line when they get back in the ring, and to send him to the hospital.
And brackets!
Marco Corleone vs ?
Charly Malice vs Lizmark Jr.
“The commission won't reveal the names up for the last spot, as the office feels like any lucha libre stars would have their safety compromised.” Wha?
Speaking of people who have their safety compromised, Neutronic, Tinieblas, and Oriental pretend to make friends with the PR Powers, as possible tag team tournament opponents, and then beat them up. Three straight bits of the rudos beating up the técnicos, it's that sort of night. This segment peaks with Oriental being subtitled “So let's be homies!”, but that's no surprise. The subtitles are partially blocked by MTV's lucha libre caption, not so smart.
Mini Park & Amazing Kong vs Tigres Caliente vs Chi Chi recap package.
Match 3: Amazing Kong & Mini Park vs Chi Chi & Tigresa Caliente
Thomas and Mack Center, Las Vegas, NV , 08/07/2010
Winner: técnicos
Match Time: 6:01
Rating: eh
Notes: Is Chi Chi going to wrestle in a bikini top now? At least that makes sense. Técnico team gets separate entrances. Break before the match starts. Ref is fat.
Mini Park and Amazing Kong both get a run of offense before Tigresa trips up Mini Park to give the rudos control. Tigre Caliente still is not very good, and they have unique camera angles for her just to hide spots. Chi Chi, who is looking crazy jacked this week, wrestles like a normal wrestler who just happens to be wearing a bikini. There is a lame kiss spot, but Chic Chi accidentally kicks her partner, which slowly starts the race for the hot tag. Mini Park gives Chi Chi a Tornado DDT and tags Kong, who clotheslines everyone. Chi Chi saves Tigresaa from the Awesome Bomb, but Kong breaks their double clothesline and gets them one. Chi Chi slips free form the Bomb, but ends up taking the Implant Buster, which remains a horrible name. Park moonsault, one two three.
Kong and Tigresa have a bad brawl on the outside. It's mostly Tigresa failing and Kong blocking it. I guess it's not over, which is really sad. Lots of people staring at ach other, and Tigresa yelling.
Next Week: tag team title tournament continues.
