Yay, I guessed the trivia answer right!
Past Leyenda de Azul winners.
Match 1: Atlantis, Ephesto, Mr. Niebla, Misterioso II,
Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano Jr., Villano V vs Blue
Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Maximo, Marco Corleone, Toscano, Sagrado, Shocker,
Valiente for the Leyenda de Plata
Arena Mexico, 12/12/08
Winner: Terrible
Match Time: 26:09
Approx Rating: good
Other Match Notes: Entrances picked up at the tail end. A fight breaks
out on the stage between teams we're watching the far shot. Ah, Dos and Niebla. Looks
like Texano and Shocker too. Niebla fails at clotheslining Dos into the ring,
mostly because Dos just doesn't feel like going. A fine wrestling exhibition
this is. Anyway, half the wrestlers in this match end up battling on the ramp before
long, with the other half idling facing off in the ring. Then everyone just walks to their
side of the ring. No battle royal, we're going tecnicos vs rudos. Tiger Hispano
gets the ring in-ring assignment.
Panther's all ready to go for the tecnicos, but V5 and Atlantis have an dispute over who gets to face him. Oh man, I didn't think of it for three months, but Atlantis must be so disappointed HE didn't get Blue Panther's mask. If only they had agreed on a mask match at some point. Anyway, Rey Bucanero calms things down and gets his partner out of there.
Chop battle leads to Panther giving him a snap mare, and going for the mask. Terrible runs into make the save, which is odd that they can do that now. NO matter, Panther dropkick him up and follow him with a tope.
Sagrado in. Bucanero - no, Bucanero will take a break. Texano in. Hey, they have issues! No one remembers, maybe they're over them. Texano slips in a kick to the chest when Sagrado kicks him. Corner whip, Sagrado boots him. Sagrado headscissors him out. Terrible in, Terrible fireman's dropped. Moonsault? No, ringpost tope con giro onto Texano!
Misterioso & Maximo in, suddenly. Misterioso sunset flip, Maximo rolls thru, dropkick issues, Misterioso on top one no. Misterioso scoops him, La Rosa. One two three. I think we had an edit in there. High ten tag to Atlantis. 8-7 rudos.
Valiente and Atlantis have a hopping contest. Not on purpose. Maybe. Replay of the last finish (which they'll do for all of them) as Valiente knocks Atlantis down. Off the ropes, cartwheel over, and Atlantis pops up and elbows him. Corner whip, Valiente double jump backflip to behind Atlantis, and a Rayo style hop. The moonsault looks great, the hop looks incredibly fake, figure that. Valiente waved to the ropes, back with a headscissors. Valiente off the ropes, over, and hit form outside by Bucanero. Rules aren't rules this year, I guess. Rey comes in as Atlantis leaves. Whip, Rey misses a clothesline, and Valiente brutally monkey flips him over the top rope. TOPE! Rey got driven into the front row.
Corleone and Niebla in. They pose in opposite corners. Face to face, sorta. Niebla shoves Corleone into a corner to chop him down, and then realizes how not well that's working. Marco backs him up to the other corner, chest laps and big punches to the head. Niebla begs off, and take a bump. Niebla pulls himself up and chest slaps Corleone, but that just makes Marco dance. Niebla counters with his own dance. That gets him punched.
Misterioso is in, but Marco keeps him at bay with one hand, and punches him with the other.
Tag to - no, Marco stay into face Rey. Whip, Rey gets his side reverse facelock backbreakers and elbow driver. V5 comes into help him stomp, and V4 even does the Bucanero taunt. I wonder how UG feels about that.
Ephesto in, and Sagrado in for the other side. Chest slap fight. Chops. Ephesto misses when Sagrado ducks down, so Ephesto forearms him in the head. Ephesto mocks Sagrado pointing at the crowd, and knocks Sagrado down with one more chest slap. Whip, trip, and Sagrado goes to the apron, then swings in for a dropkick on Ephesto. One two no. Ephesto whip, reversed, Sagrado dropkicks out his knee. Sagrado puts on a, uh, double underhook camel clutch? Sure, let's go with that. Two down.
Valiente and Niebla in. Niebla wants a handshake. Valiente thinks deeply, and waves him away. His Rayo de Jalisco matador waves are better than his Rayo de Jalisco hops. Niebla chops him down, but Valiente trips him, goes over won a flipping run, blocks all Niebla's strikes, and comes off the ropes with a headscissors. Dive? No, Bucanero again gets in a shot from the outside, and slingshots in with a chinbreaker. One two three! That was quick.
Misterioso and Toscano in. Toscano pumps his arm for the crowd and gets booed. On the upside, his shirts match his shorts this week. Whip, reversed, reversed, Toscano sorta backdrops him. Toscano's right arm is heavily taped. Fans boo him again. Toscano with a headscissors, booed. Toscano with a sunset flip, Misterioso rolls thru, Toscano covers up, Misterioso kicks him in the back of the head. Misterioso springboard 'rana caught into a powerbomb, one two three. Toscano celebrates, boos.
V5 cuts of Toscano's celebration with a stomp. Crowd chants for him! I'm starting to think Toscano's tecnico turn might have been a bit of a mistake, eh. Toscano sunset flip is blocked by V5, but V5 misses the punch.
As Toscano rolls out, Sagrado gets V5 with a plancha. V4 has more power in one chest slap. Corner whip, Sagrado moonsaults out to escape, V5 still clothesline him down. Your flying means nothing! Senton, one two no. Sagrado 'rana, V5 rolls thru one two NO. Sagrado fights out of a waistlock, but runs into a powerslam. No cover - oh, there's the cover. One two shockingly, it didn't work to not cover in one motion. Sagrado fires up, and V5 drops him with one chop. Sagrado fires back up, and as it at least is able to stay on his feet after the next chop. V5's kicks is blocked, Sagrado's clothesline is caught into a slow slow crucifix rollup. One two three. Sometimes, I think lucha libre might be fake. 6-5, rudos.
BREAK
Shocker in and being power slammed repeatedly by V5. Clothesline, as they show another split screen replay of the last elimination, as they have all match. V5 climbs up the ropes - why? Shocker lifts him on his shoulders and drops him for an electric chair suplex. That doesn't seem fun. Shocker is only slightly more loved than Toscano. Flying elbow drop, one two three. Shocker walks out of the ring like a man really regretting what the elbow drop just did to his hip.
Dos in, and Terrible in no hurry to face him. Shoving battle, not won by the rudo. So he leaves!
Rey in, and actually grounding and pounding Dos. That'll score highly with the judges. Corner whip, Dos jump to the middle rope, and Mongolian chops Rey as he gets there. (Chops to both sides of the head, I mean.) Dos grabs Rey by his head and lifts him over the ropes to the apron, then side kicks him off there. Rey lands on his feet on the floor, so Dos obliterates him - and a guy moving away too late - with a big tope.
Toscano and Texano in, and Texano avoids a chop to dropkick him. Corner whip, no one's home. Toscano does a big dance in advance of charging Texano in the corner, and gets backdropped to the apron. Toscano leaps in and knocks Texano down, 'rana one two NO. Well, they're not booing now, that's must be nice. Toscano's kick is caught, but he uses the other one for a bodyscissors cradle one two no. 'rana - no blocked, big Texano powerbomb. One two three. No big cheer there, but surprising.
Niebla and Panther in, and Niebla chopping Panther around. Panther has enough oft that before long, and takes over with chops - but Terrible and Rey rush the ring and stomp him down three on one! Rey gives Shocker a shot to stop him from helping out. Rey and Niebla leave as Texano comes in to help Terrible. Double whip fails, Panther clotheslines Texano and lures Terrible into dropkicking his partner. Panther throws Terrible around by his hair, and Rey rushes in to make the save again. Rey and Panther are left alone, Rey ends up getting his reverse facelock backbreakers, but Panther escapes the finishing blow and puts on an elbowlock. Rey is done, fast.
Panther is celebrating, no idea that Niebla is in from behind. Niebla gets him with a shot, slam, and decides to go up. Moonsault connects! Niebla not done. He's got dance, and he's got to go up again - second moonsault connects. Maybe a pin this time? One two no? Not much of a kickout there, couldn't tell if maybe Niebla picked him up, but I don't think so. Niebla backs up, then comes back to pick up Panther - fujiwara armbar! Too close to the ropes, Niebla gets an arm and a leg on them. CLIP. Niebla suddenly has Panther in the fujiwara, and Panther is giving. That's a bad edit.
Another clip? Shocker gives Niebla a spinning backbreaker, but gets knocked down by Atlantis. Whip, and Shocker takes it right into a tope on Mr. Niebla. A riot ensues, with the remaining guys from both sides (except Atlantis) brawling and the rudos shoving Shocker back in. Shocker manages okay, giving Atlantis a running boot. We're down to these two, Marco, Dos, Texano, Mr. Niebla, and Terrible. Shocker off the ropes, boot is blocked, Shocker shoved away and charges again - right into the Atlántida! Down to five.
Niebla in, not happy to face Dos. Not that he'd be happy to face Marco. After a corner whip reversal bit, Niebla ends up on the middle rope and dancing. Probably not his best move seeing as Dos just runs over and gives him a running enziguri. Dos says that's it, I think. Or maybe he just poses. Dos is a big fan of the bell clap double chop to the side of the head today. Press slam, dropped into the German suplex one two three. 3 on 2.
Marco tagged in, getting many squeals of approval from the crowd. Atlantis tries to raise the roof, and Corleone has a slightly different version of the move. Pose off. Atlantis shoves Marco, Marco jumps over him, jumps over him - this is now every Marco match. Completely to him being jumped from behind as he poses. Springboard clothesline misses, and Atlantis hits him with running shoulders to the midsection before flipping him over with a backdrop. Suplex? No, that's not going to work for Atlantis. Marco reveres it to his own, and heads to the ramp. Superman dive - connects, one two three. Atlantis kicks out at about five.
BREAK
Terrible working over Dos as they pick up, Atlantis just making it up the ramp. Corner whip, Dos jumps to the middle rope, fights Dos away, and kicks Texano as he charges. Dos yanks both of them around by their hair for a bit, and uses it for a hair pull/headscissors combo. Superkick for Terrible, backbreaker for Texano. Dos sets up a powerbomb on Texano, but Terrible breaks it up before it gets started with a kick. Marco is parched on the top rope and just hanging there forever. Finally, he gives up waiting for Terrible to come over (Terrible's pounding Dos from behind, and Dos is half ignoring him) and just jumps off like normal to punch Terrible. Dos powerbombs Texano, while Marco small packages Terrible for stereo pins, one two no. Wait, how would've that worked? Anyway. Marco goes to his corner, but comes back to grab Terrible. This fails, and Dos gives Marco a very bad enziguri to knock him out. Hijo del Averno double team Dos, but Dos reverses a into a bodyscissors roll. Texano is able to break this up in plenty of time. Dos shoves in the corner, but prefers to look and gesture to the crowd. Whip, head down too soon, and Dos kicks both of them. Kick, press for Texano, and dropped into a gutbuster. One, and Terrible makes the save. Marco was done on the floor but he's pulling himself to the apron. Terrible says that's it and grabs Dos, but Dos is too busy firing up thanks to the crowd. Chop. Terrible stops that with a chop. Corner whop, Terrible charges into a superkick, and Dos charge out - oh, no, Terrible blocked him and Texano adds a chinbreaker. One two three.
Marco in, and knocking Terrible out with one punch. Texano tries to go face to face with Marco, and gets as high as his corner. Marco goes to the corner to pose, and Texano slaps him on the back. Now's not this time for that. Whip, Marco reversal bit, and Texano ends up running into Marco but can't knock him down. Kick is blocked, and Marco spins him around into a punch. Marco back up the ramp, running, and the superman dive connects a second time. One two three.
It's down to Terrible and Marco. Terrible tries to rush Marco, Marco waves him by and punches him in the corner. Corner whip, reverses, Marco kips up and out, and Terrible flattens him with a dropkick. Marco went down hard. Terrible lays on top and hooks a leg, one two NO. Terrible chops. Corner whip, reverses, Marco charges in, Terrible ducks out of way of a plancha and kicks Marco ashes' hung in the ropes. As they switch to the main shot, you can see Ephesto walking backwards up the ramp - I guess he got here too soon. Terrible misses a clothesline, and Marco give shim a back suplex into a side slam. Corleone covers, and Tiger Hispanic counts, with no idea Ephesto is walking to the ring - one two NO. A ref and a CMLL official confront Ephesto. Now Corleone is out too to yell at Ephesto, who backs his way up the ramp. Corleone figures, since he's there, he might as well try it again - superman dive flies over Tiger Hispano and hits Terrible! Unfortunately for Marco, Tigre Hispano continues looking at Ephesto being walked away, and misses Texano coming in the other side and foul kicking Corleone. Terrible inside cradle one two THREE.
Terrible and Texano celebrate big. Ephesto comes back out to join them as Terrible is handed the plaque for winning. Terrible is a very happy winner.
Match 2: Ultimo Guerrero vs Mistico
Arena Mexico, 12/12/08
Winner: Mistico (2-1)
Match Time: 09:17
Approx Rating: Fine for an the time and finish with these two
Other Match Notes: What the heck is with UG's music? UG decides to hide
in the stage for Mistico's entrance. Mistico's very confused when he sees no UG
in the ring, and quickly figures it's because UG is waiting down below to get
him, so he dives off the top part of the stage to get UG with a plancha.
After the big dive, Mistico just gets up and walks towards the ring like it's a
normal entrance. They've done
that spot that many times, it nearly is. UG chases after him, and takes a spinny
headscissors on the ramp. UG gets tossed in the ring, and Mistico springboard s
in with a 'rana, only to get powerbombed. That's the whistle.
1: Whip, kick. Flashback!
Hace Unos Dias: UG fouled Mistico and got away with it for a pin. That doesn't really narrow 'when' down, but I mean last week.
In real time, UG is tossing Mistico around. Ref is Baby Richard. Big old chop. UG foes for the mask, and Mistico tries to fight him off. Baby Richard pulls Mistico off, which helps. Whip, big flapjack. Mistico set up in the corner, Guerrero Special! Uno dos tres.
2: As the fall starts, UG has Mistico over his head and walks him around ringside, looking for a good place to drop. He eventually opts to avoid fans and picks empty seats. Back in, and Mistico's set up on the ropes for UG to rip up his mask. UG doesn't get it all the away, but does drop Mistico to the mat. Mistico's knocked out of the ring, too the floor. Checking out the rowdy tecnicos fans. Back live, Mistico swing kicks UG from the apron, and then comes in with a springboard headscissors. Mistico off the ropes, flipping run, and staredown. Mistico off the ropes once more, twisting headscissors sends UG out. Mistico backs up, charges, and topes him. Replays. Both back in, Mistico first. Mistico ducks a clothesline, up and over sunset flip one two THREE.
3: Mistico poses on the turnbuckle while UG readies himself and gets distracted. Crowd doesn't cheer as much for him, for some reason. UG works over Mistico in the corner, Mistico turns it around (and the anti-Mistico crowd is at it's loudest here.) Superkick knocks UG down, but gets back to his feet as Mistico wastes time posing. Charge, Mistico grabs UG, lifts him, sets him in the tree of woe, and adds a running dropkick. Mistico is fired up, so eh does one more. That knocks UG to the mat, where Mistico covers him, one two no. Clip? Mistico leverages to a quick 'rana on UG one two NO. Both down and slow up. Mistico of the ropes, La Mistica - no, UG broke free before it can be applied, and Mistico fell to the mat. UG is quite fire dup by surviving that. Corner whip, UG charges, Mistico moves, and UG takes the knee bump tot the floor. UG wastes no time on the floor, rushing towards the announce desk, and you can hear the announcers yelling at Tony (and some screaming). Mistico runs in his direction, runs up the ropes, plancha - and UG brains him with Tony's canvas! I don't think you can do that! Rudo fans are ecstatic. Baby Richard is already waving off the fall, but UG tries throwing him in, as if he could still win the match with a pinfall. UG is shocked and amazed to find out hitting a man with a large easel is not a legal maneuver. That's the match.
Replays. In the live shot, they went thru the extra step of concealing what UG was up to until Mistico left his feet, so there's a bit of setup here to see. They also still have Tony's drawing - it was saved (as if he did it ahead of time!) and coincidently features UG beating up a Mistico piñata.
