CMLL LATV GdR - 05/16/09 (#145)
Recap: 05/16/09

Mistico welcomes us to the show. First announcers stand up in a while too. Though I guess everything's the first in a while.

Match 1: Rey Cometa, Pegasso, Flash © vs Loco Max, Skandalo, Arkangel ©
Arena Mexico, 05/08/09

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. rudos

Winner: rudos
Match Time: 12:25
Approx Rating: Good
Other Match Notes: Entrances. Flash has his belt, rudos enter as a group. There's really not that many people there, though I think they're still herding people down to be on TV. There's no crowd murmur or buzz. Refs all have gloves and surgical masks on. Bestia Negra & Baby Richard are the refs here.

1: Not a clip to start. Pegasso and Loco start, and neither man gets much going at first. Their mat wrestling isn't so compelling. Loco hands Pegasso off to Skandalo, who gets a more sustained offense. Skandalo has Hooligan's mohawk mask fringe. Pegasso has a whole series of moves after escaping a sunset flip, none of which seem to lead anywhere. Skandalo gets him back up, clotheslines him, and stomps him out. Flash in on Skandalo with a flying armdrags, then flip behind Skandalo to dropkick him out. Arkangel – he's also got the mohawk, I guess that's a new team thing – trips up Flash and puts him in a half crab. Arkangel quickly lets go to get Flash with a double underhook toss, then adds an elbow drop and dropkick to send Flash out. Cometa comes in with a middle rope headscissors, then tries a springboard over Arkangel for an armdrag, but ends up going to far and missing the armdrags. No problem, he just gets up and does it again. Cometa pulls off a spinning armdrags that seemed to have some reverse motion on it. Cometa charges, Ark flips him to the ropes. Ark charge, Cometa leaps over him as he comes out, then follows him to the floor with a springboard tornillo. Loco in and missing a dropkick on Pegasso. Pegasso looks at something, and we miss Flash coming in – springboard senton con giro? Pin there, and Pegasso gets his own with a 450 splash on Skandalo. That's the fall.

2: New fall sign? Oh, so they can stick an ad on the back of it. Pegasso shows off his ability to do front handstands, and gets clotheslined by Arkangel. Arkangel's different mask is throwing me off. He'd be tough to identity if they didn't actually identify him. Ark picks up Pegasso, who spins an armdrags him. Pegasso with more flips, and then a headscissors to send Ark into the corner. Corner charge, Ark flips him to the corner, Pegasso chops him away, climbs up top, and pulls of a tornillo armdrags. Kinda pointless but also kinda awesome. Loco runs in and hammers Pegasso with a clothesline. One two no. Loco tries a running boot, but Pegasso sidesteps it and enziguris him out. Handspring dive fake, and tags. Flash and Ark in, and clip here. Unlike AAA, they don't do a wacky screen transition to point it out. Flash is evading Ark, but gets flipped by a clothesline. Chop, and then we've jumped ahead to Skandalo in and chopping. Whip, Skandalo tosses Flash up, but he lands behind and gets Skandalo with a spinning armdrag. Rebound armdrags sends Skandalo out, and words are getting bleeped again. Loco surprised Flash with a spinning elbow, and hammers him down with an chest slap. Chop in the corner. Corner whip, Loco ducks in under the kip up, Flash flips away, Loco waves him by on the charge, and Flash does some bending over the ropes to send up a headscissors. Loco runs up the ramp to escape, but Flash is just going to do a fake dive pose anyway. Clip (3!) to Cometa and Ark in. Announcers are clearly calling it off the edited version and not doing it live, for what it's worth. Anyway, Ark drops Cometa with a rolling back elbow, but that somehow doesn't get three. Whip, reverses, and Cometa drops Arkangel with a spinning backbreaker. One more? I guess not. Chops and slaps. Plenty of those. Ark put one the top rope, and Cometa keeping him there with chops as he climbs up. Super loose headscissors takes him off, but the rudos have had enough and jump in the ring to beat up all the tecnicos. Cometa is isolated. Corner whip, Rolling back elbow by Ark, high speed flying splash by Loco, and they hold his legs apart for Skandalo's questionably low dropkick. Pegasso and Flash in, and beat around. Skandalo takes care of Comet on the outside with a slam, then comes back in to help. Flash and Pegasso are run into each other, tripped up, and held down by the legs by Skandalo as the other two climb the ropes. Stereo top rope splashes one two three.

3: Cometa is able to hold Skandalo off with chest slaps, but the rest of the rudos help out to silence the tecnicos him as the fall starts. Double boot send him out. Flash in next, but the the rudos are all over him, quite literally. They stomp him down, then pick him up to whip into the ropes. Drop toe hold, dropkick to the face, one more dropkick to the face, and Ark adds a running senton con giro. Pegasso comes in before they've even got Flash out, but Arkangel is able to ground and pound them. Pegasso whipped into the ropes, rebounded of the top rope, and dropped with a triple pres slam. Inverted facelock/dropkick combo, almost as if this is a Pierroth match. Another subtle clip here, with Cometa in and for another beating. He manges to roll under a double clothesline and dropkicks Skandalo out, but gets knocked down by Loco. He and Ark whip Cometa, but Loco tosses him right into a dropkick on Ark. Loco elbows Cometa down, but charges into a backdrop to the floor. Cometa poses, runs – and gets nailed by a Skandalo kick going thru the ropes. Skandalo's very proud of himself, but gets dropkicked to the floor by Flash. Ark in, Ark backdropped by Pegasso and Flash. Those two start running – Pegasso with a sort of tornillo, and Flash with a rope flip moonsault. Cometa and Ark left, and Cometa manages to dropkick Cometa in the corner and set him up top. Tope rope 'rana? No, blocked – super (release) bomb. Ark sits on top, one two three. He's not the captain, though the announcers are not quite aware as first. Rudos bring back in the other two, and yell at the refs for asking for one one. Flash is whipped into Arkangel's dropkick, and he adds a middle rope low blow elbow drop. Subordinates cover, one two three. Maybe they can get a title shot now? Why does Bestia Negra hurry to the back?

Zombie Clown mask in the crowd! This crowd shot is interesting, because it looked like maybe 30% of the crowd was wearing the flu masks, but when they pan from person to person, you can tell just about every single one has one on, but they're just hanging around their necks at the moment. Every CMLL person – usher, security, whatever – is wearing a mask and gloves.

Video Package: body paint! It's a guy named Luis with a air gun. Exciting! Doesn't look to take as long as I'd thought

Dancing: Rey Bucanero, Fabian, and their friends.

Match 2: Sombra, Volador Jr., Hector Garza © vs Rey Bucanero ©, Ultimo Guerrero, Atlantis
Arena Mexico, 05/10/09

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: tecnicos
Match Time: 9:02
Approx Rating: OK
Other Match Notes: Entrances. Sombra & Volador have their belts and masking masks. Rudos enter as a group, with no belts. Rey wants a rematch for the titles. Refs appear to be Tiger Hispano and Rafa El Maya.

1: When the match picks up, there's a metric ton of confetti in the aisle, and the rudos are beating the tecnicos. Random beeping is back for this beatdown. Volador is held on the ramp for the Guerrero sit. Sombra is whipped, dropped, and held over UG's knees for Rey's senton. Garza discusses with the rudos on the apron for a while until they just knock him down. Whip, double back elbow, rolled into a bodyscissors and slammed on his face. Sombra and Volador brought in, and it's the three men tied together submission for the win. Whistle actually blows for the second fall before this one ends.

2: Rudos still in control. Volador is whipped in the corner, clotheslined,, and UG adds the headstand sit. Crowd is behind the rudos. It does look more packed than it was earlier, but then I now recall that's because it's a different show. Sombra's whipped into a spinning backbreaker. Again, Garza prefers to negotiate instead of coming in. Clip head to when he finally does. Corner whip, Rey whipped in, Garza drops him on the apron, elbows him away, kicks UG away, kick to Rey as he tries to lean in, Garza rolls under a double clothesline and Sombra gets Atlantis with a springboard armdrags. UG kicks Sombra, but Volador gets him with a springboard headscissors. Garza in and running, but Rey trips him up and hard and pulls him out. Don't Garza ducks a clothesline on the floor, and trips Rey into a female fan in the front row. What are the odds.. Garza goes back in, but only to pose, because his boys are doing all the work. Sombra slams UG and and adds the rope flip moonsault, while Volador goes up and over for a sunset flip on Atlantis. That ties it up. Crowd boos. As we're seeing replays, crowd reacts to something Garza (and maybe Rey and UG) do near the front row.

3: As the show comes back from break, Atlantis and Rey have been backed almost to the stairs by Sombra and Volador. They want no violence, so the two turn around and double superkick UG instead, who must've been snaking up on him (and somehow had confetti on?) Rudos regroup, and I guess UG got that confetti on him by taking a bump into it before, because it's all sticking to him now. Everyone back in the corners, and Volador and Atlantis will start.

Dueling appeals to the fans, and the tecnicos fair better than they have most of this match. Volador off the ropes, over, flipping run, Atlantis misses a clothesline, Volador back with a headscissors. Volador off the ropes, Rey gets in his kick from the outside, and swings into with a chinbreaker. I need to go watch Ras de Loan again so I can remember what I'm supposed to be calling all of these moves. Rey celebrates taking Volador down. Off the ropes, clothesline misses, and Volador slides Rey out. The confetti – which is now all around the ring apron and floor – actually slows Rey out on the slide. UG in, and taking in a big crowd reaction. Posing – and now he gets booed! Fickle. Volador actually get cheered. Rudos and tecnicos each pose in a group, just to soak in this rare occasion where the Arena Mexico faithful are reacting the way they're supposed to. Back to work. UG miss a clothesline, gets rolled by Volador, does the Shocker/UG reversal spot, and Volador sends UG out with a spinning armdrags. Volador tease the dive and holds up. Atlantis in to face him, but Sombra wants him instead. Atlantis asks for a timeout. Sombra isn't actually doing much, but doesn't give it to him anyway. Headlocks shot off, Sombra over and flipping, Atlantis clotheslining misses, Sombra rebound armdrags ends him out. Sombra pops up, charging at Rey as he comes in, but gets caught in the triple side backbreaker. Suplex, into neckbreaker. Rey really works well with Sombra, but that may just be because Sombra can do anything. Rey off the ropes, and Sombra monkey flips him all the way to the floor. Sombra thinking about his next move, and ignoring Hector's warnings here. UG elbows Sombra down before he can realize what's up. UG looks around at the crowd, who's mixed on this again. Whip, Sombra tossed up by backflipping off UG's chest. Sombra off the ropes again, reverse spinning headscissors sort of thing, and UG goes out. Sombra starts seems to start a dive, but bails out into a rope flip as Atlantis approaches him. I think UG was hiding in the second row. Atlantis still looking for that timeout. Rey in, and Garza rolls in after him. Rey catches him easily, gives him one side backbreaker, then pulls him forward for an STO. Whip, Garza over, rolling under, under a clothesline, stop sign. Time to pull of the shirt. Garza drops it, and Rey's too busy making a big show of grinding the shirt into the mat to be ready – and Garza wipes him out with a kick. Atlantis and UG both come in to kick Garza down. Corner whip, Garza jump right to the top rope and gets UG with a springboard armdrag. Atlantis runs into an armdrags of his own, and Sombra and Volador jump into to dropkick Atlantis and Sombra out. Running – stereo tope con giros! If only they didn't give us the camera screened off by people trying to get out of the way. Garza and Rey in, Garza ducks the clothesline, pausing shoulderblock, and running straight to the top rope – moonsault bodyblock, tecnicos back in to help cover, one two three.

Rudo fans make themselves heard post match, but cheering beats them again. I think the beeping this week is actually taking out words, but I have no idea which ones. We get post match promos, and you can tell that because everyone's out of breath. UG wants a tag team title shot again. Volador doesn't seem too interested in giving them another opportunity so soon. Replays of the finishes, and they hurry to the end while the announcers are actually still talking.
