CMLL Fox Sports - 12/14/08 (#123)
Recapped: 12/28/08

This episode has not aired on Fox Sports Espanol, but I've got a video file from the Fox Sports (Mexico) airing. No announcer standup, as they're a bit strapped for time.

Match 1: Mr. Aguilita, Pequeño Violencia (c), Pequeño Warrior vs Bam Bam (c), Ultimo Dragoncito, Pequeño Olimpico
Arena Mexico, 12/07/08

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. rudos

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 6:06
Approx Rating: too quick to be much
Other Match Notes: First fall is clipped, leaving just Olimpico's run against the rudos, his tope, and the other two getting 'ranas. Olimpico seems a bit shaken up after his tope. Second fall is clipped to the start of the beatdown, or just short. Third fall clipped to the post comeback one on ones. This time, we get most of Bam Bam's offense. Plus a tornillo, while Dragoncito goes out the other side with a tope con giro. Warrior dropkicks Olimpico out, and gets in his guillotine legdrop to the back of the head. Olimpico is really getting drilled this match. Captains end up back in, Violencia spinebusters Bam Bam, and puts him in a, uh, modified Nagata Lock. That'll do it. Violencia beating Bam Bam clean should mean something. Today, it means Warrior and Violencia are really happy.

Match 2: Ephesto vs Sombra (c) for the NWA World Welterweight Championship
Arena Mexico, 12/07/08

  1. Sombra springboard somersault 'rana (3:46)
  2. Ephesto satellite armbar (1:54)
  3. Sombra inside cradle (17:57)

Winner: Sombra
Match Time: 23:37
Approx Rating: Really great.
Other Match Notes: Entrances. Again, in Arena Mexico, there's no problem playing the real music. Sombra makes sure we see his cross, many times. Referee Rafael Maya is wearing a NWA patch on his shirt. More than anything else, that's quite the big screw you to Blue Demon and company. Seconds? Averno's so tough, he can work the second here and have his own title match too. Mascara Dorada is Sombra's. It didn't occur to me until later, but I went back here and checked - no weights were announced in the ring.)

1: After all, that, they're joining in progress, battling on the mat. Ephesto appears to be leading Sombra thru the elbow locks and such. Nice double back bridge part. Sombra gets his legs tied up, and even early, it's a big struggler to get to the ropes. Ephesto is no hurry to let go, either. Ephesto picks Sombra up, and carries him into give him a small package, escapes at two, then falls into an another small package. Zero leg trips, pose. Crowd loud behind Sombra. Lockup, Ephesto right to an armbar, on the left arm.  Arm pulled all the way out, and driving forearms and knees into the elbow joint. Tightening up into a hammerlock, which allows Sombra, to get a jumping bounce of the ropes snap mare to get free. Off the ropes, up and into a headscissors, and Sombra's fired up about this match speeding up. Sombra charges again, Sombra catches him on the clothesline attempt and loads him on his shoulder, but Sombra slips and get his own fireman's drop. Sombra calls for his move, goes up, rope flip moonsault misses, but Sombra says Ephesto rolling and landed on his feet. Ephesto back into the corner, Sombra charges and gets tossed to the apron, and back with a front flip into a 'rana, one two three. Halfway there.

2: Ephesto quickly in control. Headlocks, hot off, over, under - no, Ephesto just grabs Sombra and drops him down. Cover, one two no. Ephesto looking frustrated. Well, as much as he can look. Jumping stomp. Headstand headbutt! You mess with the ram, you get the horns. Ephesto lays down over Sombra. One two no. Ephesto pushes Sombra into the ropes and chops him. Crowd chants for Sombra. Whip, clothesline misses, Sombra up and armdragging. Sombra fired up again. Off the ropes, spinning headscissors - no, face first powerbomb. Ephesto off the ropes, fat satellite armbar. How is he in this weight division, again? Sombra gives.

3: Ephesto jumps Sombra as we're looking at the ring girl. Ephesto picks him up, and lifts him into the Gori Stretch. Not messing around, I see. Sombra really being bent here, then leaned all the way to the mat for a pin. One - no, shoulder up., and Ephesto has to battle to get up. One again, Sombra bends up on his head. one two and Sombra lifts back up on Ephesto, down the other side for a sunset flip, one two NO. Not that fast. Sombra off the ropes, bounce on top the ropes, and back with a headscissors. Ephesto is easily out, Sombra up top, getting his balance - tornillo moonsault to the floor! That's crazy.  Sombra back, Averno checking on his man and telling referee Maya to slow down his count already. Sombra doesn't help his cause by distract the referee. Ephesto pulls himself to the apron in time, then fights Sombra way form the ropes. Ephesto slowly climbs the outside of the ropes. One foot on the top rope - and the second foot gets knocked away before he gets there. Sombra Chops Ephesto as he sits crocheted, then goes up to join him. Sombra superplex is blocked (so Ephesto can get his feet in the right spot) then works, Sombra falling on top for a pin. One two NO. Marathon selling time. Loud Sombra chant. Sombra off the ropes, over, clothesline misses and Sombra slides out, and Ephesto follows with him a tope. That didn't head head first as much as it turned into a plancha by the end.

Both guys looking tired and getting counted out, while we see a replay of the dive. Averno kinda shoves Ephesto in behind the refs back, which allows Ephesto to cut off Sombra with a stomp as he comes in. Crowd into Sombra. Ephesto takes his time to yell at the crowd, turning away from Sombra. Sombra springboards to top, big plancha, Ephesto catches him, and belatedly reverses it to roll on top. Like after they hit the mat, rolls on top. That's something  Referee is slightly confused, but counts. One two - referee actually spots the far shoulder up for the first time in recorded history. Ephesto isn't buying it, but it's a fair call. Crowd seems to have their qualms about the situation, whistling a bit. Ephesto asserts control by pushing Sombra into the corner and giving him a knife edge chop. He's easily distracter by the Sombra chant. Stomps, as Sombra falls down. Corner whip - no, Sombra holds onto the ropes for a bit. Corner whip, this time for real. Ephesto backdrops to the apron, and tires to fight Sombra off the from there, but Sombra actually blocks it and runs him in toward the posts. Sombra puts the breaks on and chest slaps him down. Ephesto fixes his mask, then picks Sombra up from outside the ring apron to post him, but Sombra blocks it, and finally Ephesto is sent into the corner buckle. Sombra out to the apron to battle him, but Ephesto kicks him down onto his back. Ephesto charges - and gets monkey flipped over the corner to the floor. Not directly to the floor, looked like he hit his upper back HARD on the apron on the way over. Averno is immediately concerned, but Ephesto recovers quickly. Sombra waiting for him to get up, then running - double jump tornillo MISSES. Ephesto moved, the ground did not. I don't even know what that means! It looked so painful, I stopped making sense.

Ephesto tries to get in to beat the count, and Sombra falls on his ankle to delay him. Ephesto kicks him away, and goes in  as we take a look at Ephesto's bad bump, and Sombra's bad bump. It's tough being in a title match. Ephesto in, and Sombra up on the apron in time for them to stop the count. Or maybe he was in and out? Sombra's actually up first and kicking Sombra, then taking him down to his back for a modified chinlock. Ephesto wont' give, and Sombra is frustrated. I suggest he stick with better looking submissions. There were go, there's the cavernaria! This match ain't ending with it either, but Sombra puts forth a good effort until Ephesto breaks the chinlock. Camel clutch! No, Ephesto breaks the chinlock part of that too. Maybe Sombra needs to work over Ephesto's chin. Ephesto goes for his own camel clutch, Sombra tries to fold his arms into block it, but Ephesto works and works until he has it on. Sombra waves, but waves that he refs to give up - and he's close enough to the ropes that he can just lean forward and shove Ephesto out. Both looking dead. Ephesto get to his feet, and drags Sombra out by his mask, throwing him to the floor chest first. Ephesto climbs up the steps to the ramps, and poses for the fans who won't stop cheering for the other guy. Averno, a lot more visible than Dorada, works hard at fanning Ephesto with his towel. Ephesto back in, but Sombra takes a more direct route, springboard silla. One two NO. Sombra tries to fire up, but just falls back down. Referee gets to counting for a knockout, and both get up at 9. Sombra proceeds to jump to his feet, completely alive due to the chant. Uh huh. Sombra off the ropes', 'rana, Ephesto rolls thru, referee checks both shoulders before counting, one two NO. Averno is appalled at that count, as well he should. Sombra tries a bodyscissors cradle but Ephesto slides down to block that, one two NO. Ephesto has Sombra petty well figured out here. Crowd Mistico level loud for Sombra.  Sombra headscissors cradle, Ephesto rolls to a reversal (!) one two NO. Sombra's going to lose this match if he keeps doing moves! What a paradox.

Sombra lifts Ephesto on his shoulder, and drops him. Sombra points to the corner, and is the only one in the building who thinks this is a good idea. Sombra gives into peer pressure, and covers Ephesto with one hand with one hand instead of using the ropes. One two shockingly, that didn't work. Okay, fireman's drop, up again, after this time, moonsault no one home. Ephesto crawls on top, Averno screams for a faster count, one two NO. Mascara Dorada is here, there's a picture to prove it. Ephesto start to head to the corner, but referee Rafael el Maya has him come back. Maybe because Sombra's getting up? Shoulderbreaker! That was Hombre Sin Nombre's big move. Ephesto thinking about going up - no, legdrop instead. Ephesto polling the public on his next move. Averno is sure this is a horrible idea, but Ephesto decides to go up anyway. Senton con giro - MISSES. Sombra dives on top, one two NO.  Sombra fireman's drops Ephesto, quick up top, rope flip moonsault connects (close enough) one two FOOT ON THE ROPES. Hope Sombra has a plan B. From his reaction, maybe not. Corner whip, reverses, Sombra corner sunset flip, Ephesto reveres it and grabs the ropes (Averno helping) one two referee spots it! Ephesto argues, inside cradle one two THREE. Crowd goes crazy.

Dorada carries Ephesto on his shoulder as Averno protest that three count. Money in the ring, check. Replays.
