CMLL FSE GdR - 02/17/08 (#78)
Recaped: 02/18/09
Open: Ephesto joins the announcers. His mask looks bizarre with a red polo shirt, though it does match the accent color in his mask tonight. Ephesto also has no idea who he's facing tonight, and the announcers how to show him a poster. Ephesto rips up the poster. Sagrado provides a muted counterpoint, talking about Olimpico for no particular reason.
Match 1: Ohara, Okumura, Virus (c) vs Leono
(c), Mictlan, Super Nova
Arena Coliseo, 01/27/08
Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 14:41
Approx Rating: Boring.
Other Match Notes: Ohara does his half of the promo in Japanese, Okumura does his in Spanish. Why is Virus stuck in goof matches? Why do I now see Super Nova on every show now? Why is Mictlan yelling?
1: JIP? I think. Not that it matters. We start with Leono and Okumura, so I can only assume they cut out Virus. Armbar fight, Leono wins with an armdrag. Test of strength. Announcers discuss Leono beating Mr. Mexico. I don't think Mr. Mexico has wrestled since that match. These MVS feuds can be the death of people. Maybe I have it backwards and we just need more people who want out if we're going to get another feud. Test of strength ends not just with Leono stomping on Okumura's hands, but the rudos massaging the hands back to life, and then yelling at the fans about it. Okumura comes back to Leono, gets sent out on a jumping snap mare, and that's over. Tags to Super Nov and Virus. Nova at least has a different outfit this week, though it appears to be two different outfits cut in half and stitched together. Lockup, break. Lockup, Nova with a waistlock, full nelson, Virus tires to back elbow free, Nova spins around to get a spinning headscissors. Virus off the ropes, no, he grabs them, faking out Super Nova who had dropped down. Virus drops an elbow on him and celebrates. Stomp to the head. Chest slap. Whip, reversed, Under, rolled over, Nova waved by and back with a twisting headscissors. Okumura in, Nova cartwheels over him. Ohara tries to help and fails just the same as usual. Team Japan is led into a Leono springboard dropkick, and the young guys end up topeing the Japan guys. Mictlan and Virus are left in, Virus misses on a dropkick, Mictlan kicks him, lifts him up, and drops him with a shoulder backbreaker. That's the fall.
One girl is a huge Super Nova fan. She not only has a very intricate sign, but also the shirt. This is the smart way to get on TV. I think they'd interview you for a couple minutes if you had a Leono sign.
El Baul del Ring is the woman again. Or maybe for the first time on this show?
2: Super Nov and Virus have a chest slap fight. Nova loses when Virus gets in the distraction punch, and the rudos decide to start the beatdown while Nova is KOed. Leono gets thru the ropes. Mictlan's wearing a shirt today. Ohara gives him the Kamehameha. I hear he doesn't get to go home till he becomes a Super Saiyan. Leono is brought in and then sent out after a single elbow. The French League scores scrolling on the bottom of the screen are somewhat more interesting right now, but only because someone lost 6 to 0. Okumura knocks down Nova with his missile dropkick for one pin. Mictlan helpfully hurried in so he can be beat up some more., and Leono gets his loss back with a nudo.
El Arte de Catch: Valaguesa
And the foreign fans segment that I already saw.
Inmortales: Cien Cars vs Rayo de Jalisco Jr.
3: Beatdown continues. Virus disappears for a bit while Ohara and Okumura screw around. Virus teases taking Mictlan one on one, and instead lures him into a trap. Leono ducks a double clothesline and back elbows Ohara to start the comeback. Rudos still beat up Leono, and Nova's springboard into the ring gets completely missed by the camera. Virus went out on that, Okumura on Mictlan's top rope armdrags. Mictlan gets tripped up and pulled out by Ohara to prevent him diving. Ohara comes in to face Super Nova, running into a backbreaker. Nova slams Ohara and heads up, but Virus crotches him and sends him out before the moonsault. Leono rushes in with a clothesline, but Ohara ducks that and Virus puts him in a bow and arrow. Okumura takes care of Mictlan with an abdominal stretch cradle, and that's the match.
El Diseno: Ephesto
Match 2: Ephesto, Olímpico (c), Sangre Azteca vs La Máscara,
Sagrado (c), Último Dragón
Arena Coliseo, 01/27/08
Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 9:51
Approx Rating: off
Other Match Notes: Dubbed entrances. It's been a while since I've seen
Ultimo Dragon do his old Velocity pose. La Mascara does the promo for his side,
talking about both Sangre and Olimpico. Olimpico cracks up the valets on his way
to the ring. Olimpico talks about Mascara. No one knows who they're feuding
with.
1: Picked up at the end of a quick aback and forth between Sangre and Mascara. Sagrado and Ephesto are next, not for long. Olimpico and Dragon take time to get on the crowd before locking up. Dragons' unable to knock down Olimpico with his shoulderblock. He give sit another try, and still no luck. Dragon tries a third time, and it just work. Dragon picks up Olimpico, Olimpico scoops Dragon and slams him, but the elbow drop misses. Whip, reversed, Olimpico's boot is caught, Dragon taunts him a bit before sweeping the leg. Three Kick Combo, out goes Olimpico. Sangre jumps on Dragon with kicks and punches. Whip, Sangre gets his shoulders down for the backdrop at the last second, Dragon flips to his feet/knees. Dragon gets in his heel kick to the gut, but Sangre takes a bump so Ultimo can't just do the finisher there. Ultimo shrugs in annoyance. Ephesto rushes in and kicks out Dragon, then stands around taunting Mascara in the ring. Ephesto shoulderblocks Mascara, runs off the ropes, Mascara just stands in the corner watching, Ephesto takes a left turn and still misses the dropkick. Mascara superkicks Ephesto and covers him. Despite being way into the ropes, Tiger Hispano decides this is all good and starts counting. Meanwhile, Sagrado springboards into the ring, but right into a Sangre Azteca dropkick. That's his move! Mascara walks over to the pin and puts a hand on Sangre's back, but has to wait around instead of breaking it up because Olimpico isn't there to cut him off. Meanwhile, Dragon decides not to break up a pin, and puts Ephesto in a half crab. Not the smoothest end to a fall I've ever seen. Dragon is completely confused as to what just occurred. Guerreros are really big on raising the roof today. Olimpico celebrates with guys in suits. Sangre's about to get in a low blow dropkick as the show goes to pre-break stuff.
Q: [Olimpico] Que nombre tenia en sus inicios?
A: Popoca Jr.
2: Sangre Azteca gets the low blow dropkick on Dragon just as the fall starts. Sagrado is brought in and booted. HE doesn't go out, so they can get in corner charges. Olimpico is still doing his rolling back elbow. Ephesto gets whipped in from about four feet away. Sangre adds a clothesline, and the rudos all pose in the corners. Which is a bad idea, because Mascara gets a free run on Sangre. Rudos get it back together to get him, and Ephesto ends up dropkick Mascara out. Triple boot for Sagrado. Mascara takes down Sangre as he comes in, but the others stop him again. Whip, Mascara ducks a double clothesline and dropkicks Olimpico out. Rudos grab Mascara, set up to whip him off the camera side ropes, change their minds and go to the left side ropes, Sagrado gets on the apron and grabs La Mascara to stop, Sangre and Ephesto run over with a double clothesline, Mascara ducks and...nothing. They just all stare at each other. Time stands still. Rudos slap Mascara on the back, then straight him up and wait. Sagrado finally springboard dropkicks both guys. Tecnicos hit stereo topes, just like the last match. Inside the ring, Dragon gets the heel kick Dragon cutter on Olimpico for the pin.
El Arte de Catch
3: Card girl is late out, which makes me wonder why they showed everyone killing time waiting for her. Ah, editing. So there's a minute of this fall where nothing happens. Olimpico and Dragon pick up the action, with Olimpico reversing a 'rana for two. Olimpico misses a clothesline and gets backslid for two. Whip, reversed, Olimpico charges into a boot, Olimpico charges again and gets knocked on the apron, and knocks off. Asai moonsault naturally follows. Inside the ring, tecnicos keep the rudos at bay. Sagrado gets a plancha on both, and lures the rudos into a Mascara plancha. Tecnicos take it home with their finishers, and no one gets kneed in the face. This wasn't much of a fall, maybe that's why they showed us the time killing.
Mascara/Sangre teasing - Mascara yanks Sangre's mask to challenge for a mask/mask match. I like Mascara more than I used to (this match aside), but let's not let that happen.
