Arena de Chicago DVD: Mistico & LA Park vs Dr. Wagner Jr. & Rey Bucanero

At the Shimmer show a couple weekends ago, Rob (I hope I’m not getting my Rob’s confused) asked me about the DVDs I picked up of last January’s shows. I’d only see part of the first DVD (checking to see if I made video, so I could recoil in horror and such), but since people might be able to purchase them this weekend at the Congress Theatre show, I thought I should check both out.

Digression 1: So I called* the Congress today, and besides confusing the heck out of whoever picked up – I thought they might know something about the Saturday lucha show (no, but now I know there’s a private DJ show there on Saturday and I’m not invited!) – I found out the Sunday show starts at 4 pm.

After hanging up, I realized I should’ve asked “4 pm doors open or bell time?” That’s gotta be doors open, with the show at 5. (That’s my plan, anyway.)

Digression 1.5: Does actually calling someone for information cost me my blogger license? That’s far too pro-active for someone writing on the internet. I’m gonna lose all sorts of cred in one day.

Digression 2: I realized I have a baseball ticket for Saturday, so, uh, I’m going there and not driving all over Dundee to track down a Canek match. This may make me a horrible person, but I’ll live.

Digression 3: before they got turned off for too much data transfer, the Arenas de Chicago page listed shows…on June 16th and 17th.

Back to the point…

What follows is very limited thoughts about the matches themselves – no play by play – but more details about how the DVD looks and sounds, because that was what Rob was wondering about. I believe I’ve posted about these shows in the past, if not here or elsewhere, and many of the match comments are echos of what I said before.

Three? shows this weekend in the area

Saturday, there’s a regular show at Chi-Town. It looks like the usual lineup, with Gallo Tapado Jr. and AAA’s Cassandro the guys brought in this time.

Congress has Lizmark & Canek vs Emilio and Satanico on Sunday show. Tickets are free, but they haven’t posted any other info about it – no start time, no other matches, no nothing. I would assume the same 5PM bell time as last time, but I don’t know.

Congress’s website has a banner ad (at the bottom) for a match on Saturday featuring those same four. Address is listed as 14 N 963 Route 25, East Dundee, IL 60618. That address should’ve been proofread once more; Dundee’s zip code is 60118. The bigger problem is I can’t find a map which has 14 N 963 Route 25 on it. (East Dundee is not so big that you probably couldn’t drive around and find it, though.) Wherever the show is, it’s listed as starting at 11am – though I think may just be for the festival, and not specifically the wrestling show.

Anyone going to these? I’m surely going to the Congress show, and if the times worked and I’m free, I would consider doing the double shot on Saturday if I knew how to get to various places.

If you’re involved with running either show (or are booked on the show), I’d love to have more info to pass along. I really don’t want to actually have to call people, but I just might.

Lucha at ChiTown this weekend

Forgot to mention this from Box Y Lucha:

ELLMEX (SUN) 02/19 Chitown Lineup
(2423 S Throop St, Chicago, IL 60608, 6PM)
4) Mascara Sagrada & Principe Franky vs Universo 2000 & Tyme Page

If Tyme Page is actually teaming with Universo Dos Mil, I may actually go to this show.

Updated 02/24 Congress Lineup

Raul Cruz has an updated lineup. Yay Raul.

ELL-MEX (SUN) 02/24 Congress Chicago Lineup
1) Siulenta Azul vs ?
2) Lupillo & Mini Charlie Manson vs Guerrerito del Futuro & Tyme Page
3) SWAT Kat vs Coco Negro [no holds barred]
4) Pantera, Atomo, Principe Unlimted vs Mascara de Jade, Lucifer, ??
5) Mil Mascaras & Mascara Sagrada vs Villano III & Rey Misterio Sr.

Doors open at 6.

Felino is off, due to a Japan tour – that’s the same day as the scheduled NJPW Bangladesh shows and there was some talk about CMLL guys working on those shows, but those shows may be off now, so – I dunno. Could mean any number of things.

The SWAT Kat/Coco Negro follows up the same match from months ago, right? And sorta of the trios from the last run. I kinda would have to be really bored and/or in the city already to go to show. The semimain could be real fun with those tecnicos and other rudos, but I don’t know if it’s a good combo, and if you’re looking for a exciting match, you shouldn’t look at the main event.
