Lucha TV Report for September 18th, 2001

(Arena Mexico) Veneno, Poder Boriqua, Violenica vs. Tigre Blanco, Sicodelcio Jr., Brazo de Oro- They aired a (long) skit before the match with Pierroth training his Boricuas in the gym, making Violencia and Veneno do really heavy weights. Tigre Blanco has a new mask with the white mane, much like Felino's. The rudos take the first fall easily, getting some good heat from the crowd. The second fall is the tecnico comeback fall, except since these guys are midcarders without a faction they don't get all the offense and Poder Boriqua even pins Sicodelico. Tigre Blanco hits two crazy dives, a ropeflip backflip headscissors and a fast tope con giro that launches his foot right into Poder's face. Brazo de Oro uses a rollup after Violencia doesn't quit to his submission to even the fall count. The tecnicos continue to control the match in the third, and even get Veneno and Poder into submission holds, but Violencia runs to the back for a baseball bat and starts using it and gets them DQed. Hmm. EMLL is LLME? Pierroth even cuts a promo after match, aligning Leo Magadan(the rudo announcer) with himself. The crowd gets pissed off and starts throwing trash at him. I guess it was effective then but I don't think I could ever see any of the guys currently wrestling for the Boriquas main eventing Arena Mexico. They should have run an angle like this when Pierroth was still active.

Felino, Antifaz and Safari vs. Emilio Charles, Scorpio Jr. and Bestia Salvaje- Emilio Charles brings flowers with him to the ring. This will become important later. First fall is all boring Guapos offense. Tecnicos make a comeback in the second, with lots of flying moves. Antifaz looks just about the same as pre-roids. Safari hits a 8.0 Black Warrior tope almost taking Scorpio Jr. off his feet. The third looks to be going to same way, but after an Antifaz tornillo Charles half-fouls Felino and uses a boston crab to end the match cleanly. Post-match he presents the flowers to his girlfriend…

Dr. Wagner Jr., Shocker, Satanico, Cien Caras vs . Gigante Silva, Mr. Niebla, Olimpico- The standard Silva match really except this time Silva did two new moves, a spear and a sort of tilt a whirl slam into a rock bottom on Shocker. Shocker and Niebla, Satanico and Olimpico did get some small time to tear it up. Wagner stuck to comedy with Silva including offering a test of strength. I think this match was aired without one small edit. It was quite good too. Olimpico and Niebla had Satanico and Cien locked up in submissions, and Silva with Shocker overhead in press. But Wagner took the flowers from ringside and used them as a weapon(!) getting his team DQed. Shocker then picked up all the pieces, put them back together again, and gave them to Emilio's girlfriend "por yo ati" from him to her, and even gave her a kiss. Then Wagner, to make sure we don't stop laughing, grabbed the mic and said that he broke them to prove that he was the star, not the girl(lol).

Momentos Estelares-

Ricky Marvin with a springboard dropkick.
Los Hermanos Stone with a tope/tope con giro combo. Big props to Sangre Azteca for selling the tope with a running flip all the way up the Coliseo ramp.
Villano III rolls up Blue Panther s l o w l y.
Tony Rivera goes like ten feet in the air with an assisted tope con giro!
Rayo Jr. and Hijo del Santo combine the tope de cristo/cornerpost tope with a moonsault dive!

Hijo del Santo and Negro Casas vs. Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero[c](for the tag team titles)- We start with some really nice matwork from Bucanero and Santo, which goes on for a while. Santo gets him in two of his patented rocker dropper armbar things, one of which Bucanero can break via the ropes, the other which Santo uses his free leg to somehow also tie up Bucanero's other arm, creating a sticky situation. This causes Ultimo Guerrero to enter the ring to a chorus of boos, and start pounding on Santo. But Santo fights back and gets him in 'la de caballo while Casas does the same to Bucanero(I guess Casas forgot his own finisher LOL) to end the fall. The Casas/Santo duo retains control at the start of the second but Casas gets tripped up by Tarzan Boy. The commisioner tosses him out for that but the damage is done as the Infernales have taken the wind out of their sails so to speak. So they get a few nearfalls off of Casas before he hots tags to Santo, who nails the tope de cristo but can't get 'la de caballo on Bucanero. Santo slams him and goes for a moonsault, but Guerrero is right there to crotch him. He climbs up top and goes for the killer Reverse Superplex, but Casas knocks him off the top rope and to the floor! Santo still sees stars however, and Bucanero gets him in a crucifix, for a Splash Mountain… countered with a huracanrana by Santo!! 2 count! Casas hits a sommersault senton off the apron on Guerrero… both guys start brawling on the floor and their partners rush for stero topes… that hit the wrong guys! Santo and Guerero make it back in first, Santo with the over the shoulder rollup! Close two count! Toss up into a rana!!! Two count! Guerrero sits him up top, and Mascara Magica runs in? He pulls Guerrero off the top and hits Santo… DQ!

Now in Mexico titles can change hands on DQ but the commisioner holds it up because he thinks that something is fishy since Mascara Magica was at ringside the whole time and had on a different shirt and was smaller. Guerrero was sure it was Satanico. I thought this match up until the DQ was better than the one on the August 2000 PPV. I even like the fact that EMLL got the run in right and didn't have Satanico get the guys he hated the DQ victory win.
