Lucha TV Report for July 31st, 2001

EMLL-

The first two matches I will just provide a summary for, because MS WORD took it’s asshole pills and deleted what I had typed without making any backup.

Both matches were from Arena Coliseo… first up we had Universo 2000 vs. Rayo de Jalisco in a non-title bout. The crowd was very hot for this matchup as they two are long time enemies that will likely meet in a mask match, plus EMLL has managed to keep the feud at least interesting while not making it the number one thing on TV. Rayo took the first fall cleanly, and was about to take the second fall. Universo managed to reverse a rollup though, and use the ropes to even things up. In the third Rayo used his “piano dropped out the window” plancha but both men beat the count. Universo tried the piledriver, but Rayo countered by lifting Universo into it. Both cornermen jumped on the apron, and Universo used a low blow behind the refs back. However, the ref still didn’t turn around, so Rayo recovered and used a foul of his own to win the match. It was an ok bout, with an overdone finish. The other match was Tinieblas Jr/Mr Niebla/Black Tiger vs. Scorpio Jr/Bestia Salvaje/Emilio Charles. It was an ok match, though nothing special. The crowd really doesn’t care about the Feos unless they are attacking Shocker… the rudos ended up winning cleanly 2-1.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming…

(Arena Mexico)Satanico, El Averno and Shocker vs. Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero, and Mascara Magica- In a promo before the match, Guerrero declares that El Mephisto has already been taken care of and that Tarzan Boy will be returning shortly… so Satanico wants to say a few words on the ramp. Of course, the young Infernales want to brawl, so they jump Satanico and beat on him for a while, until Shocker comes running in from the back. He then knocks Bucanero into the crowd, and proceeds to single handedly take care of the Infernales by himself. Guerrrero ends up being tossed over the top onto his partner Bucanero, then Mascara Magica gets sent up the aisle with a tope from Shocker. In the ring, Satanico catches Guerrero and uses the nudo pin to take the first fall. Satanicos Infernales continue to hold the ring for much of the second, until Bucanero ducks a Shocker clothesline. He then nails an assisted tope con giro taking Shocker out. Guerrero then puts Averno up top and uses a killer reverse superplex to put him down, as Magica locks on the double armbar for the win on Satanico. The young Infernales now control the ring in the third, but Shocker and Satanico prove the wiser by pulling them out one by one as they run the ropes. Guerrero takes a wicked looking face first bump on the floor. Averno uses a no-hands tope con giro on Bucanero. Shocker then goes one on one with Mascara Magica and locks him in the Reinera, while Satanico gets Ultimo Guerrero in a half crab to end the match cleanly. This was a great match. Tons of action and they had the rudo vs rudo formula down pat. This feud has gotten to the point where they know their match so well that it’s impossible to produce anything bad.

They show highlights of the Homage to Perro Aguayo. La Parka was on TV! Another skit shows the contract signing for Villano III vs. Signo hair vs. hair. The show is going to be sold on tape via www.CMLL.com. I’ll probably grab it and review it.

Dr Wagner Jr/Signo/Apollo Dantes vs. Rayo de Jalisco Jr/Villano III/Hijo del Lizmark- First fall is all rudos, who get DQed for being too violent. The tecnicos make their comeback in the second fall, with both Rayito and Lizmark looking good. Wagner and Apollo get taken out with dives, then the man in the black coat whacks Villano III with a chair, it looks like the match is over! But Villano IV runs in from the back, and embraces Signo… if you remember last week Signo’s friend used the mask to trick VIII. Well here, they embrace… then Villano IV lifts him up and does a Fuerza Punt! Villano III covers and gets the three! This was a very good match and the finish was excellent, especially in comparison to last week’s.

AAA(From Nogales)-

Hector Garza vs. Electro Shock(Middleweight Title)- This starts off with a beautiful mat wrestling exchange… what the hell? Since when did Elektro Shock become good on the mat? He even works the arm over with joint locks and slams, it’s like a new guy is under the gimmick. Segrada ends up taking out Maligna with a tope con giro(they were the cornerman), then Garza gets Shock counted out after a gorgeous tornillo to take the first fall. The ringside doctor seems concered with Garza’s arm… is this AAA? This can’t be. Elektro Shock takes the second fall quickly by evading a dropkick and using a cristo variation like an armbar/abdominal stretch, totally cranking back and looking like he is going to hurt Garza. This is not the same guy. Garza’s shoulder has to be nursed and padded for the final fall. Garza starts working over Elektro Shock’s leg now. Holy fuck this is unreal. It’s like AAA is in a time warp or something. Shock uses a cross amrbreaker and Garza is looking for the ropes instead of selling it like a resthold… Garza fights back and looks for a top rope frankensteiner as Abismo Negro runs in with his fire… Maligna takes off Segrada’s mask and tricks Garza… Elektro Shock uses a killer spinebuster slam and then a Delphin-clutch to end the match… wow I just saw the first very good AAA match of the year and it had friggin Elektro Shock in it. What is the world coming to? Garza starts beating on Segrada post match.

Cibernetico, Abismo Negro, Pirata Morgan vs. Latin Lover, Heavy Metal, La Parka Jr- The best thing here is of course Parka’s comedy. The guy is a riot. Hector Garza runs in for some reason and the rudos win. Well there goes the clouds to cover up the breif moment of sunshine, folks. I started fast forwarding after that. Someone else ran in and there was a fast count too. Rudos in straight falls. I guess we have returned to the good old AAA I love.
