There was a battle royal.
Diamante bodyscissors on Cancerbero (2:58)
Durango Kid backdrop Angel Azteca Jr. (3:53)
Diamante headscissors Durango Kid (4:56)
Tiger Hispano is ref. Are the 3M adds on the ramp new? A lot of low speed brawling, which the crowd gets bored with. Cancerbero breaks out a leg DDT on Azteca, that's at least interesting. Rudos dominate, Diamante makes a comeback and sends Cancerbero out. Técnicos work over Durango Kid for a while, and you can see it falling apart before it happens. Diamante has Durango Kid, but Durango ducks down as Angel Azteca charges, and out goes Angel Azteca
Tiger Hispano, being Tiger Hispano, decides to let the guys just keep fighting, not trying to break up the match. The fans know the rules, because they whistle for a bit, and there's a confused murmur. Diamante and Durango Kid must know this, because they just go thru a whole bunch of planned looking spots, not all phased. Announcers don’t' seem to offer an answer. Anyway, diamante gets Durango Kid out with a headscissors over the ropes, and that's finally it.
Match 1: Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus © vs Ángel Azteca, Ángel de Plata ©, Guerrero Maya Jr. in the quarterfinals of a Mexican National Trios #1 Contenders Tournament
Arena Mexico, 12/26/2010
triple tapatía Angel Azteca (3:20+3:27)
triple cavernaria Guerrero Maya (3:20+4:06)
Winner: rudos
Match Time: 7:26
Rating: good
Notes: Rodolfo Ruiz is the referee. Angel Azteca still looking winded from the battle royal. Angels are acting as if they're best of friends and, oh, also Guerrero Maya is here (five steps ahead, posing on his own.) You know, showing the team photos of the Cancerbero when they're all wearing their pre-mask masks and look identical is probably not helping anyone at all. Just a guess on my part.
Maya and Raziel start. There's an epic movement where Maya loses his wristlock on a twisting armbar, except Raziel takes a flip bump anyway. Everyone just looks at themselves for a second. They're kind off here. Things are fin for a few posts, then they both go for leg trips at the same time, Maya armdrag, pose, maybe you should tag. Miguel says nerves. Sure, why not. Azteca and Cancerbero a strike battle, and Azteca wins via bouncing big boot. Whip, reversed, Azteca escape the tilt-a-whirl and actually knocks down the bigger man with a running shoulderblock. To be fair, Azteca appears to be getting close to Cancerbero’s size. He's wearing a shirt during this match. Azteca gets Cancerbero with a headscissors, sending Cancerbero out, and handspring poses. Virus and Plata are the last ones in. One person chants for Plata, and a lot of people boo. Chop fight ends with Virus kicking Plata dangerously low. Plata comes back with a shoulderblock and a springboard tope. Plata flipped to the apron, but kicks Virus away when he gets hung up in the ropes. Springboard dropkick sends Virus out. Plata sets up for a dive, and Cancerbero kills him with a clothesline. One two no. BREAK.
Cancerbero sandwiches Plata with a corner clothesline p, puts him on the top rope, and pulls him off with an inverted crucifix bomb. One two no. Plata tries to make it to his corner, Cancerbero tips him up, starts of the tapatía, but Azteca breaks it up with a springboard sunset flip. One two no. Azteca 'rana, one two NO. Cancerbero boots Azteca down, charges, and charges himself right out of the ring. Raziel in, and cutting off Azteca with an armdrag. Azteca swings and misses, Raziel hooks the arm and rolls him forward in a hammerlock cradle. One two no, but pretty. Pumphandle face first powerbomb, one two Maya has to make the save. Crowd boos when Maya stop to look at them. Northern Lights suplex one two NO. Maya wristlock roll up with bridge one two Virus makes the save. Crowd yells at Virus, so he yells back. Virus swats Maya down with a chest slap. Maya is still really skinny – from the bodybuilding contest? I can believe Virus' open hand slaps are completely laying them out, which they are. Whip, reversed, Virus grabs the ropes and Maya armdrags air. Virus trips him up, sets him on the middle rope, runs, and gets cuts off by a Plata plancha. Cancerbero pulls Plata down from the outside, Virus kicks Maya out, and slaps Azteca of the apron. Virus spinebuster on Plata, Cancerbero off the ropes, spinning senton. Raziel off the ropes, and spinning slam on top, and Virus adds a senton. Rudos stop to celebrate that series rather trey to get a pin from it. Face first slam for Azteca – and a triple tapatía! That will do!
Plata is the captain, so on this goes. Maya in, and spun around in a double faceslam. Rudos pull of a sort of triple cavernaria to finish him.
Match 2: Ángel de Oro, Diamante, Rush © vs Durango Kid, Puma King, Tiger Kid © in the quarterfinals of a Mexican National Trios #1 Contenders Tournament
Arena Mexico, 12/26/2010
Puma King powerbomb Angel de Oro (6:31)
Rush double stomp Puma King (7:15)
Rush senton Tiger Kid (8:23)
Winner: Técnicos
Match Time: 8:23 (3:58+4:25)
Rating: good better as it went on.
Notes: Angel de Oro is wearing a Diamante-style long sleeved shirt, only with his logo instead of the diamond. I guess he does wear that already, but it makes them look like a team. Rush wears no shirts in the ring. Tigre Hispano is back as referee.
Puma shoves rush then backs away. That's the way to go. This gets everyone else to leave so they can actually start the match. Lockup, Rush armdrag looks rough. Puma trip, but Rush armdrags him away again. Rush trip, zero count, Puma trip, double slap to the chest instead of the pin! Rush does not like that, and stands up to chop Puma in the chest. Puma chops back, but Rush chops harder. They agree to take it outside, and actually do chop out there. Puma's right shoulder is taped up. Rush and Puma are having a perfectly good fight, and then everyone else decides to run in and get involved. Rush may able to handle puma, but Diamante and Angel de Oro are easy prey for Durango and Tiger. Puma brings Rush back in so Tiger can kick him in the backside. Chop knocks Rush down and the fans sign the rudos song. Diamante avoids the rope kick as he comes in, but still gets kicked to the cornered. Whip, weak double clothesline, Diamante rolled to his feet, Diamante rolls under a double clothesline and takes a kick to the head. Tiger brings Angel de Oro in, and goes after his mask. Tiger Hispano warns him, not that ever helps. Corner whip, Angel de Oro flips to the apron, springboard back with a headscissors on Puma. Superkick to Durango, Off the ropes, just a nice casual handspring moonsaults to the floor! Rush and Tiger in. Circling. Tiger slaps Rush in the chest, and rush tells him to try harder. Tiger bounces off the ropes and delivers one, and still Rush wants more. Tiger off the ropes again, Spinning back chop is ducked, and Rush dropkicks Tiger down. Stomp to Tiger. Chop. Whip, leapfrog, Tiger over the roll, clothesline misses, Tiger puts his head down and Rush kicks it in. Stomp and out goes Tiger. Rush with the roll and dive tease. Crowd boos, Rush is totally unconcerned.
Puma and Angel de Oro in, evading until Puma lands a superkick and concentrates. Whips are reversed, until Puma takes one and just hops to the ramp. Angel de Oro charges, dives over the top rope in a roll, then comes back with a rebound headscissors in the ramp. Oro grabs Puma by his mask, but Puma begs off. Diamante and Durango in. Diamante gets in the first big shot with a quadruple springboard armdrag –up down up armdrag basically. That may have given him 40 extra lifts, I'm not sure. Durango goes right out, and they're done like that. Back to angel de Oro and Tiger Kid – until Puma sneaks in to kick Oro from behind. Chest slap, and Angel de Oro falls to the mat like a tree. All the rudos in now. Has Oro always had blond hair? Oro handsprings into a wheelbarrow front cracker, then Tiger hands him off to Puma for a powerbomb/backcracker., then a straight sit down powerbomb one two three!
Diamante knocks Durango Kid out of the ring, but the Cats get a hold of him and whip him – into a tope con giro onto Durango. Or, more accurate, a tope con giro that bounces off Durango's back as he bends over, then sends Diamante into the first row. Odd. Rush in alone against the cats, but Puma superkicks his brother mistake. Rush superkicks Puma, drops him with the fireman’s carry powerbomb, and adds a double stomp. One two three.
Tiger Kid back in, but Rush makes sure to stomp Puma as he's rolling out. Tiger Kid runs around waiving for support. Chest slap and chops have no effect on Rush. One Rush chop knocks Tiger down. Kick. Whip, Rush leapfrog, backward roll, right into Tiger Kid’s dropkick to the backside! Two hand press cover, one two NO. Tiger argues the count, not the time for that. Tiger grab Rush, Rush small package, one two three. Or, at least it's clearly three to me and Tiger Hispano hits the mat three times, but he signals to Rush that it's only two. Tiger Kid did not kickout, and is confused. Angel de Oro and Diamante help Rush up like that match is over, but Rush must have a clue, because he breaks away from Diamante's handshake to senton Tiger Kid, one two three.
Rush hears it from his anti-fans.
Match 3: Ángel de Oro, Diamante, Rush vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus in the semifinals of a Mexican National Trios #1 Contenders Tournament
Arena Mexico, 12/26/2010
Angel de Oro mecedora Virus
Winner: Angel de Oro
Match Time: 4:01
Rating: short but fine for the time.
Notes: Fight is already ongoing. Bestia Negra has taken over as referee.
The Cancerbero hold Oro for a dropkick to the face. Rush seems to be recovering on the outside. In comes Diamante. Cancerbero start a crowd chant I don't identify, but a double chop on diamante backfires, and gout goes Virus. Diamante and Rush dropkick the other two, struggle with a high five, then do not struggle with stereo tope con giros! I can't remember Rush doing too many of those, and maybe don’t do too many more the way he's grabbing his shoulder. Nothing seemed to happen to his shoulder on that dive so maybe it was earlier. Inside, Virus caps Oro with a dropkick to the knee and follows with a dropkick to the head, one two no. Virus powerbomb, one two no. Whip, reverse, Virus ducks under a leapfrog, 'rana, one two Raziel breaks it up. Those two roll out, Diamante charges in, Raziel moves and inside cradles him. One kickout. Cancerbero yells for a faster count, but that was totally fair. Corner whip, Rush backdrops his partner to safety and kicks Raziel away. Diamante off the top, landing a plancha. Slow casadora cradle, and Raziel crawls thru to escape. Cancerbero off the top, flatting Diamante with a splash. Rush breaks that up with a sharp kick to the face. Raziel avenges his partner by clotheslining Rush, but Diamante small packages him one two Cancerbero breaks it up. All four head to corners for chops. Whips, rudos knocked into each other. Rush boosts Diamante for a dropkick, but they're pointed the wrong way, and Diamante just lands in front of the rudos. They chop both técnicos and whip them into each other . Diamante kicked out, Rush dropkicked out, and the rudos follow with topes. Angel de Oro and Virus, who are probably the captains since they were in the previous matches. Virus powerslam, one two no. Small package by the rudo, one two no. Chop. Angel whip into the ropes, back, quick stop, casadora, Virus shoves him off, clotheslines moves, Angel de Oro casadora into a mercedora! Virus won't give – now he will.
Big celebration by Angel de Oro. Diamante’s thrilled. It's another day in the office for Rush.
