CMLL CAN52 GdR - 03/22/08 (#122)
Recap: 03/28/08
Welcome to the show: Dr. Wagner Jr.
Outside the Ring: MONITO. UNMASKED. (From behind, but it's still very strange.) Even out of his gear, Monito doesn't as much walk as waddle.
Intro: promos by valet & Olimpico and Sagrado & valet
Match 1: Euforia, Nosferatu, Virus (c) vs Máscara Púrpura,
Máximo (c), Mictlán
Arena Coliseo, 03/16/08
Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 9:44
Approx Rating: Sad to see Purpura's Days With Out An Accident meter slip
back to zero.
Other Match Notes: Dubbed entrances. Maximo does the promo for his side.
Virus does his promo while wearing his half face paint/half mask deal. Monito is
out with Maximo and wearing a Maximo-like pink tunic.
1: Virus and Purpura start, and then we get Euforia falling for Maximo's antics. Euforia's mask seems to have added a white cross, stretching all the way round the sides. Maximo managed to take care of both the Infernales, but gets cut off by a Virus back elbow. Virus slaps him in the fast many times, but ends up corner whipping him towards the tecnicos to start a run. Purpura gets Virus with a springboard armdrags, then dive fakes Virus into a Maximo silla and a Monito apron splash. Purpura superkicks Euforia, Mictlan sets up Nosferatu for him, and Purpura lands the running SSP. Mictlan takes care of the other Infernal with a 'rana for the fall. Crowd chants for Maximo. Euforia runs back in after the fall is over, and is held in the corner. Maximo starts setting up for his running butt bump, but Maximo cuts him off and does his imitation of a running but bmp. (Tecnicos had to drop Euforia to a seated position to make it work, but it did.)
2: Purpura gets worked over by Purpura much but comes back with a flying headscissors to send him out. Virus tags in to deal with Maximo and immediately regrets it. Rudos quickly have enough of that after Matt takes a comical bump off ac hest slap, and the beatdown starts that here. Maximo nearly gets defeated by mass stomping. Mictlan takes the full nelson stretch and Purpura eats Virus' face first powerbomb, Nosferatu's spear, and Euforia's pumphandle face first powerbomb. I didn't even know he had that. Monito got beat up somewhere in here.
Inmortales: Rayo de Jalisco Sr. vs Blue Demon, May 30, 1989 - this is lifted directly from the Mascaras y Cabellaras documentary, as indicated by the logo.
3: Clipping causes us to come in just as the comeback has started. Mictlan ducks a double chop that takes out Virus instead, Infernales boot Mictlan, Purpura gets both of them with a tope rope plancha, and Maximo boosts Purpura into a double dropkick to knock them all out. Purpura and Mictlan high ten, but Purpura has to walk completely around Mictlan to get to his spot. Purpura runs, and jumps INTO the ropes, hitting the top rope with his belt on the way up. Purpura flips over the ropes head first, but grabs the top rope to steady his spin and kinda land on the apron. Purpura boinks his head on the bottom rope when doing this, and kicks Nosferatu in the head as he rushes over for the save. Nosferatu ends seemingly not hurt from the leg to the head, but because he lost his balance when he got hit and turned his ankle in the process. That's bad luck! Purpura grabs his head and tumbles off the apron as Mictlan hits his tope con guiro to the outside. One ref sprints outside to check Nosferatu and Purpura while Virus and Maximo gesture to get the crowd back watching them before starting their sequence. Maximo gets the double springboard butt bump and bodyscissors cradle for the clean pin.
Very short celebration before everyone stops to check on the hurt guys. Nosferatu is sitting up and his left ankle is being checked on. Purpura is down on the ground holding his head. We don't see them again, just replays. Maximo and Mictlan get to talk to Magadan after the match. One of those conversation is a bit more interesting.
El Diseno: POLVORA. This segment got a gigantic new graphic for whatever reason. I can't wait for the week where they do Rayo Tapatio I, and then follow it up the next week by doing Rayo Tapatio II.
Match 2: Mascara Ano 2000, Olímpico (c), Sangre Azteca vs Sagrado
(c), Último Dragón, Valiente
Arena Coliseo, 03/16/08
Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 8:34
Approx Rating: Fine by the numbers stuff.
Other Match Notes: Dubbed entrances. It will never stop being weird to
watch Dragon do his whole pose to set up a music/fireworks cue that's never ever
coming. Valiente does the promo for his team. Sagrado's entrance appears to be
cut. Sangre does NOT have his belt. We get even more Olimpico promo time. Sangre
had nothing to say? To be fair, Olimpico does seem to be getting better at them.
He may also be losing his mind, but that works too.
1: JIP as Sangre/Sagrado are finished up. Editors don't like Sagrado today, I guess. We get Dragon/Mascara working shoulderblock spots instead, which is cruel. Dragon slips while giving Mascara the running stomps, not a good sign. Dragon sends out the rudo with an enziguri, Sangre ambushes him with chops, Dragon lands on his feet off a backdrop and steals Alex's Stop Sign to sneak in a heel kick. Alex did give him his start here, I think he's okay with it. Dragon dropkicks Olimpico the floor and teases the Asai Moonsault before hitting it. I guess he's now done for this match. Sagrado's way too fired up to face Sangre, and Sangre kicks trips him down and stomps him into the mat. So great. Valiente gets Sangre with a flying armdrags, and finishes him with a diamond cutter. That seems to be a bit easier than the other stuff. Sagrado gets Mascara Ano 2000 and that's the fall.
2: Valiente gets chopped by Mascara Ano 200, evades him with flips, repeat. This diminishes as it goes on, not because Valiente starts using offensive moves, but because they're working at two different speeds and neither guy can adjust. Olimpico and Sangre fail at double teaming Valiente, Valiente does more escape flips, Sangre stands around a lot, and Valiente headscissors him out. Olimpico gets annoyed with this and starts the beatdown one on three! He's a man, he can do that. Olimpico blows the good will by grabbing Ultimo's leg and running in a circle around him before dropping an elbow, but it was a nice run. Corner charges for Valiente set up Sanger's low blow missile dropkick stomp, and that's good enough to get rid of him. Sagrado is draped over Sangre's knees for Olimpico's springboard splash, and that's it. Mascara leads a beatdown on Dragon for good measure.
3: Again, clipped to the comeback. Mascara and Olimpico try to double suplex Valiente with Sangre adding something form the top rope, but Sangre's knocked off and the tecnicos all come together for a 3 on 2 suplex. Rudos are pounded out of the ring, Sagrado and Mascara and ending up inside for nothing else to do. Sagrado goes for Mascara's mask, notices he doesn't have one, and settles for punches. They continue brawling as everyone les ends up in the corners, and Sagrado ends up dropkicking him out and following with a tope. Valiente pounds Sangre around. Sangre is easily taller than Valiente and yet probably weighs less. Sangre knocks Valiente away with chest slaps enough to get a tope rope plancha on Sagrado. That's there as much for the dive as the positioning. Valiente Special! Olimpico and Ultimo back in. One stop sign later, Dragon barely gets the Asai DDT for the match. Or maybe Olimpico was purposely holding him not complete over to make it the reverse of a half hour suplex? Not sure.
Replays, and Miguel talks to the tecnicos. Olimpico tries to block the camera from shooting it, then grabs the cable to try and hit the rudos. Sangre steals the microphone to rant at the camera. Olimpico tries to do the same, and the tecnico beat him up. Well okay.
