CMLL CAN52 GdR - 11/24/07 (#105)
Recapped: 11/24/07
Intro: None! They show the Shocker/Monito promo presumably taped for that segment, but then jump directly to the first match without the usual announcers stand-up bit.
Outside the Ring: Damian 666 - where we learn footage of Halloween is still allowed to be shown. What is this rational thinking from a wrestling promotion? The footage soon is almost exclusive from recent trios titles matches. No makeup exposes all the freaky forehead scarring
Match 1: Ephesto, Mephisto (c), Misterioso II vs Sagrado, Valiente, Volador Jr.
(c)
Arena Mexico, 11/16/07
Winner: Tecnicos
Match Time: 9:53
Approx Rating: Fun enough
Other Match Notes: Entrances for this one get shown in the open, as
usual, but I don't write about the open so I've got to note Misterioso's
absurdly great Viking outfit here. Rudos are all in purple. I think, had
Mephisto known that the picture they were taking of him was going to be used to
introduce him for countless months, he probably wouldn't have worn a random gym
workout shirt. Let's pretend the last sentence had a discernible structure and
move onto the match.
1: No JIP! Valiente and Ephesto start with mat work, while we're distracted by the crowd and a loud alarm going off. Valiente seems like he's lost some weight. After they go to the ropes, and go thru a sunset of counter spot, Valiente get an armdrags, flips forward towards Ephesto, and Ephesto bails on this. Misterioso is tagged in, and immediately confronted by a flipping Sagrado. Misterioso is not pleased, and looks at the fans to indicate such. Misterioso waistlock takedown, Sagrado spins free from a facelock attempts, armdrags Misterioso, and flips towards him as Misterioso gets up. Lockup, no, Misterioso back heel trip, Sagrado counters from the ground and uses Misterioso to help kip up, Misterioso armdrags him down, Sagrado hands on, kips up, and armdrags him over cross ring. Look at the crowd. It's a decent crowd, from the parts we can actually see (just the lower section.) Sagrado headscissors Misterioso, whip stops short of the ropes. Zero leg trip counts, standoff, and they look at each other for a moment. I guess that's what a standoff is, but in case you weren't clear. Misterioso shoves Sagrado and talks, and Sagrado tries to dropkick him. Misterioso moves, corner whip, Misterioso strolls in to follow up, Sagrado kicks him, Misterioso rolls backwards, Sagrado sunset flip, Misterioso rolls backwards to his feet, then freezes for a half second - ah, Volador is in with a springboard headscissors. Volador off the ropes, ducking a Mephisto clothesline as he comes in, but eating a big flapjack. Mep looks at the crowd and yells. He turns back to Volador just in time to stomp him as he crawls for a tag. Mephisto starts at a tapatia, but Valiente cuts him off with a flying sunset flip, Mephisto rolls thru, Valiente reverses - you know, this is our THIRD sunset flip reversal bit in three minutes, right? It doesn't work, either. Valiente sends Mephisto out with a twisting headscissors, off the ropes, over Ephesto - Ephesto just ran in and dropped down, and Valiente is as stunned as I am, because he has to stop and take a look. Valiente starts running again, and ducks an Ephesto clothesline, leading him into a Sagrado superkick. Ephesto goes out, Sagrado and Valiente run to the ropes, Sagrado bounces off them but Valiente flies thru them, and luckily Ephesto was ready for that tope because he might have been the only one. I get the vague impression that Sagrado dived out the other side, but we lose track of him. It's Volador and Mephisto in as we look in the ring, Volador tries for a handspring and eats a dropkick to the back. Devil's Wings, one two three. Mephisto tracks down Misterioso (sitting in the front row) as we look at the fans and their disapproval of the finish. Thumbs down!
2: So they have new ring card signs with the fall word written small compared to "LUCHAS" and the CMLL logo. Why? Was there a survey that said people were forgetting what they were watching and needed reminders between falls? As the fall starts, we get a scroll advertisement for a home lending company in Mexico. This fall is already more preposterous than all the sunset flips counter spots last fall. Rudos are in beatdown mode - I guess since they were the only ones left standing last fall. Misterioso quickly ends up giving Volador the Gory Special, but instead of winning one of the fastest matches in history, his partners boot Volador out. DUMB. Sagrado gets tripped up and yanked the floor. This requires two men, so Valiente's got a one on one chance with Misterioso for a moment. Misterioso actually wins it by himself with a jumping enziguri. Don't need to jump that much to kick Valiente in the head, all considered. He gets the double rebound hiptoss, but also onto Ephesto's boots. Juan Carlos calls him "Mr. Ephesto", which makes me wonder if I'm ever in a formal setting with Mr. Aguila, am I supposed to call him "Mister Mr. Aguila"? Volador back in. He's whipped, and handsprings over a - uh, nothing, Misterioso and Ephesto were just kinda watching him. Anyway, he lands, they try to chop him, poor Mephisto get knocked out of the ring instead. Rudos courtesy get of Volador's way as he runs back and for on the ropes, into a tope con giro on Mephisto. Sagrado surprises Misterioso with a dropkick, and then tries a, uh, failed 'rana? failed up and over sunset flip? They go with Misterioso trying to counter it into a powerbomb, and Sagrado re-countering into a 'rana. It's not so good. Valiente does a better job of finishing off Ephesto with a springboard reverse tope, and that's the fall. The alarm goes off again.
3: Ad to start this fall too. Valiente on fire to start this fall. Springboard flip past Ephesto, ducking a clothesline, and a big monkey flip. Mephisto tries his luck, but his clothesline misses and he takes a backbreaker. Valiente turns to Misterioso, but he's not coming in. Corner whip for Misterioso, reverses, Sagrado backdrops his partner to safety. The third fall graphic transition appears here, right in the middle of the series of moves. We pick up with Sagrado enziguri kicking Mephisto into a slide out of the ring. Volador and Misterioso in, and Volador getting a double headscissors. Slow, but still cool. Volador off the ropes to attack Ephesto, and this time it's Mephisto who gets in the cheap shot from the outside. Both rudos celebrate, and Mephisto tries to get in the ring behind Volador, but eats a superkick. Volador off the ropes, under a clothesline, tossed by Ephesto, and down with a headscissors for Misterioso on the ramp. Sagrado in and missile dropkicking Ephesto out. Misterioso in, and he takes a rebound armdrags out. Volador climbs the top rope, and moonsaulting Misterioso. Mephisto charges Sagrado near the ropes, and get boosted up onto a springboard tope con giro onto both men on the outside. Sagrado with an Asai Moonsault, and Mephisto totally whiffs on catching him. That looked painful. Ephesto and Valiente in, Ephesto yelling at the crowd when Valiente charges. Ephesto ducks the clothesline, and ducks out of the ring, so Valiente shows no fear in hitting the double jump moonsault! That one was pretty incredible. Replay. We've cycled back to the captains, who about that. Volador goes for the up and over sunset flip but gets shoved off. Mephisto kicks him towards the corner, charges and ends up on the apron. Sagrado, standing there anyway, chops Mephisto down. Misterioso boots Volador, but gets taken down by a Sagrado plancha. Sagrado gives Misterioso a Wagner Driver, and adds a top rope moonsault as Volador is finishes off Misterioso with a top rope 'rana one two three. Valiente runs just in time to pose. There goes that alarm again.
El Diseno: Ultimo Guerrero - this one's longer than usual.
Match 2: el Hijo del Perro Aguayo (c), Terrible, Texano Jr. vs Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone,
Shocker (c)
Arena Coliseo, 11/18/07
Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: Usual.
Approx Rating: 9:21
Other Match Notes: Dubbed intros, including Perro music. I swear they
make Corelone cut promos for their own entertainment. Perro cuts a vaguely
serious promo. At some point, Shocker has appeared to kidnapped Monito. Mistico
must be devastated.
1: There may be a clip here. There probably is. We never do hear a whistle, but we get Perro taking off shirt to a strong reaction from his fans. He and Corelone face off, and Corelone does his hip swivel. Perro shoves him. Corelone leapfrogs him. And then leapfrogs him the other way. Let's look at a Teleton purple pig so the announcers can plug that. Perro sets up Corelone, and chops him. Corelone makes fun of him, and then gets on his knees to make it more even. Perro is not amused. Perro no longer sells anyone else's wacky bits, but still does plenty of his own. It's interesting. Chop, again, no effect. Corelone wants his turn, but Perro's got to do push ups, so Corelone's also got to pushes. Corelone sets up for the chop, and punches Perro in the face. He's down. Corelone hip swivel's over him. Corner whip, Corelone charges in, no one's home. Perro teases pulling Corelone's trunks down but doesn't. Corner whip, Corelone moves, Perro hits the corner, Corelone teases pulling his trunks, and the Perro s rush him. one one three, and Corelone lifts Perro up on his shoulders while he's pound him, which looks impressive if a bit random. Eventually, two men kicking him forces him to dump Perro, who falls to the outside and fools around wheel Corelone is finally taken down. The other tecnicos are just watching from the apron. Perro comes back in, holds Corelone, Terrible and Texano try a boot, Corelone moves, and Perro take sit. Rudos try a double whip on Corelone, but that just starts the usual Marco Corelone counter sequence. Terrible takes the springboard clothesline, Texano takes the punch. Dos in. Terrible misses a dropkick, Dos ducks under a Texano clothesline, Dos forces Texano down with an armbar and puts on a crossface for a pin. The onscreen graphics call the fall there, but we're still one short, and Shocker takes care of that by having Monito splash Terrible and helping cover.
Q: [Perro & Terrible] ?Que Cabelleras Ganaron?
A: Mascara Ano 2000 and Cien Caras, way back when they were both tecnicos
2: I'm now ignoring the ad. Both teams stall start the fall, and Perro kicks Dos down and runs away when we're not really looking. Perro goes back to work over the mask. There's that pig again! Dos bounces Perro around with armdrags and a backbreaker, but gets punked out by the other two Perros. Shocker comes over to help and gets punched and kicked out of the ring. Perro kinda got a low blow on Corelone on the outside, but Corelone doesn't actually sell it. Perro does batter Corelone around the ring, including headbutts and face bites. While Texano goes after Do's mask, Terrible gives Monito a giant swing - that's much better than Olimpico's. Shocker tries to crawl into help, but Perro trips him up and crotches him on the post. Just to remind us of better times, Terrible gives Monito a Martinete. It's like .3 Vampiro and Monito obviously wants no part of it. We get replays of the move while the rudos appear to be clearing up the tecnicos, and Monito is carried to the back by security. Shocker is tried up in camera cord on the outside and - wait, the fall ended? Well, okay. We don't get a replay of the finish either. That's wonderful.
Before one of the falls, we had the usual fan interview bit. and it was a young woman who was a fan of Marco Corelone. NOW, in the backstage interview room of floating CMLL logos, they introduce her to Marco Corelone. I'm thinking Marco didn't need any help here, but will not be turning it down. Maybe it was a tradeoff for doing his promo. Corelone kiss the woman and lifts her off her feet.
3: Dos immediately sidesteps a corner charge, gives Terrible a headscissors and superkicks Texano. Perro is hiding off on the apron as not not get involved in the ring, but Shocker takes him a tour of the ring posts. Corelone gets in a big punch on Perro as well, as the tecnicos trade off victims. Corelone takes about ten seconds to build up one punches, and it works. Inside the ring, Shocker yanks Terrible around by his hair. Dos gets to the do the same. Everyone heads to their corners, and we get Shocker and Texano in the ring. Crowd is catching for Shocker, but Texano chops him down. Texano tries to suplex Shocker, it fails, but he gets Shocker over on the second try - over on the apron, anyway. Shocker gets punched there, Texano backs up, charges, and takes a dropkick to the knee tot the floor. Shocker follows with a pescado. Dos and Terrible in, Dos misses a dropkick , Terrible chops him. Corner whip, Terrible charges in, Dos gets a corner sunset flip, Terrible rolls thru and charges, Dos moves, and gives Terrible a corner enziguri. Dos holds Terrible down as Perro and Corelone are the only two left. Perro with a sunset flip, Corelone fights it, hip swivels, pulls Perro up, and gives him one more big punch. Corelone puts on something resembling a camel clutch, and - Perro gives. Wow, Corelone beat Perro clean. That's sorta amazing.
Shocker does the post-match promo, thankfully. He challenges Perro. Perro responds, usual. Shocker tries to get back in the ring to get Perro, but Perro blocks him from coming in. This kills some time.
