AAA on Televisa #978 (02/19/2011)
Recapped: 02/15/11

Previously: Tirantes and Fabi Apache did not get along. Super Fly and Octagon did not get along. Alan Stone got a new mask! Cibernético had a manilla envelope.

Backstage, Zorro rants in black and white. He's champion. Wagner says AAA needs to be strong.

Four sided ring. Good Toluca crowd.

Match 1: Atomic Boy, Fenix, Gato vs Black Dragon, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana
Gimnasio Agustin Milian, 01/27/2011

Winner: Atomic Boy, Fenix, Gato
Match Time: 8:39
Rating: a fine debut
Notes: Gato Eveready is now just El Gato, though the graphic they use of him has the old logo. Atomic Boy is back from the Bermuda Triangle. Fenix & Black Dragon are debuting here; Black Dragon was Dark Dragon until the graphic they just put up. Announcers seem to waver back and forth on it. Tito Santana is not the Tito Santana from WWF. Tigre Cota is the Trauma I to Zayco's Trauma II. Pepe Casas is referee. I think we've got this all covered!

Atomic Boy and Black Dragon have a sedate opening exchange, though Atomic Boy has to do a handspring backflip dive tease just to remind us who he his. Gato's mask has slightly changed. Gato is too fast for Cota, but Tito surprises him with a missile dropkick. Gato is still to fast, leaping of Tito into a headscissors on Cota, rolling backwards under a Santana leapfrog, and dropkicking him out. Fenix cartwheels and rolls into the ring, and gets Dark Dragon. Fenix kicks Dark Dragon so he's bent over, backs up, and connects on a handspring backflip double spin kick to the back. That was unusual. Fenix asks the crowd if they want more – they always want more. Dark Dragon tries to backdrop Fenix into something else, loses him, then looks behind to see if Fenix is dead. He is not. Dragon picks him up and slaps him down, so he's been paying attention n class. Rudos all take turns slapping the new guy around. Fenix sat on the apron for the dropkicking into a powerbomb. Not as harsh as usual. Atomic Boy rushes in, just in time to miss a clothesline. He's powerbombed by the Militia duo, and Dark Dragon adds a low blow dropkick. Clip to a front suplex for Gato. Rudos try a running sit, but Dragon gets yanked out by the other técnicos, Cota's flipped and tripped off the apron, and Tito eats a inverted bridging chinlock/dropkick combo. Fenix drops Cota with a sort of death valley driver, and Atomic boy adds the reverse spin senton con giro. Gato takes care of Gato with a casadora spinning DDT and Fenix dropkicks the new rudo out. Dives? Técnicos just stay in the ring. This has already gotten more time that I figured.

Atomic Boy is evasive, then lands an extra spin headscissors. Atomic Boy tease the dive out by swinging thru the ropes, comes back to face Dark Dragon, and takes an enziguri. Corner whip, Atomic Boy flips to the apron, Dark Dragon hits the corner, Atomic Boy springboards in with a headscissors on Dragon. Atomic Boy waits for Dark Dragon to get up. Slow at that. Double rotation headscissors sends Dark Dragon out, Atomic Boy spins thru the ropes to the apron, and follows with a nice tope rope Asai moonsault. Cota gets tricked by Gato's rope stick move, and Gato wipes him out with his running tornillo. Fenix fights Santana off with a missile dropkick, and sets up for his dive – turning tope to the floor! That was like Fuego's dive, back to the rope as he flies over, but direct on like a tope. Atomic Boy and Dragon back in, Atomic Boy avoids, handsprings into a casadora into a casadora powerbomb, one two three.

Match 2: Billy Boy, Sexy Star, Yuriko vs Fabi Apache, Gran Apache, Pimpinela Escarlata
Gimnasio Agustin Milian, 01/27/2011

Winner: Billy Boy, Sexy Star, Yuriko
Match Time: 11:29
Rating: the usual
Notes: Tirantes is the referee. Where could this possibly be going? This actually the first Gran Apache/Billy Boy match since March 2009.

Billy Boy still can't get a handshake from Apache. He can get one from Tirantes. Billy kicks Apache around, and gets a light kiss from Sexi Star. I guess they stayed friends? Apache sends Billy rolling, but Tirantes makes a move like he's going to cut him off from diving, and they have words. Yuriko and Pimpi decide to just start slapping each other as hard as they can. Billy takes the rope walk armdrag. Are they editing out Pimpi's kisses now? There was a weird edit to the end of it, but then the replay showed it complete. Fabi headscissors Apache, but Tirantes trips her up when she goes for a dropkick, and that stops the beatdown. Rudos work well on the beatdown, though Sexi Star's offense is questionable.

Gran Apache sidesteps a Yuriko yelling corner charge to start the comeback, and slaps everyone. After the brawl ends, everyone gets a near fall, and Tirantes counts fair for both sides for no real reason. Fabi and Pimpi get time killing holds, Gran Apache rolls thru a 'rana for a pin on Billy, and Tirantes grabs his knee. Tirantes trips up Apache, Billy gets a casita, one two there.

Fabi shoves Tirantes, Tirantes slaps her, Apache shoves Tirantes and chases him, and Sexi Star blocks his path.

Rey de Reyes groups are shown here. They actually show all the luchadors in all the groups, the but the announcers are not particular attention to them or reading them off, just screaming about Rey de Reyes to fill time. It may just be random sound tacked onto a video package, now that I stop to think about it. The groups also listed in tiny letters on the screen.

Group 1: Joe Lider, Chessman, Extreme Tiger, Ozz
Group 2: Aerostar, Electroshock, Mesías, Super Fly
Group 3: Dr. Wagner, LA Park, Halloween, Nicho
Group 4: Jack Evans, Decnnis, Cuervo, Carlito

No video on Carlito. The text has Ozz & Cuervo switched blocks, but the video is correct.

La Milicia (and Super Fly) clear the way to the ring for Chessman and Konnan. Konnan introduces Zorro for his own entrance. Konnan points to they've got the Heavyweight Champion, the Rey de Reyes, and the future of lucha libre (the Milicia, the future for the better point of a decade.) Zorro has two prophecies for the people. These appear to be edited out to Konnan's reaction – Zorro sees a dictator going down, but that's not a concern for Konnan, because Konnan is a benevolent leader. Konnan goes back to talking about recent wins. Zorro brings seeing the return of the iron mask, and that one actually has the crew returned. Zorro walks off as Konnan says the catchphrase.

Match 3: Aerostar & Octagón vs Chris Stone & Súper Fly
Gimnasio Agustin Milian, 01/27/2011

Winner: Aerostar & Octagón (by DQ)
Match Time: 4:51
Rating: eh
Notes: Entrances. This is so Super Fly can walk out wearing a mock Octagon outfit – red belt around his mask, red belt around his waist, and needing a cane and Chris' assistance to walk to the ring. Super Fly seems to be stumbling around a bit too, whatever that might be about. We could really use a reaction shot from Octagon, but they take forever getting it. Piero is ref.

Octagon grabs the cane from Super Fly, decks Chris with it, and breaks the thin substance over his knee. Octagon chases Super Fly out of the ring, then Chris throws himself around the ring on Octagon's offense. Chris throws himself out of it too, spearing the post on a charge. Chris is the setup man versus Aerostar, going out after a casadora armdrag, so Super Fly can get in a cheap shot. Super Fly comes back with his own double rotation headscissors, seemingly a little better than the earlier one. Aero teases a dive, but just slides up and runs past everyone else up the aisle.

Very odd clip to Octagon down after being hit by Super Fly, apparently. Break with Octagon still recovering.

Super Fly bites at Octagon's mask for a bit. Chris Stone low blow headbutts Aerostar. After Super Fly flapjacks and dropkicks Aerostar, there's another weird edit to Aerostar coming in with a springboard dropkick on Chris Stone, with Octagon standing in the corner and Super Fly nowhere to be seen. Aero lands a springboard moonsault on Chris, and Octagon and Super Fly are left in together. Super Fly has trouble taking Octagon’s spinning armdrag, which is never good. Backbreaker, and Super Fly checks out. Octagon chases him and punches him around ringside. Super Fly keeps backing up, and La Milicia come to his rescue by attacking Octagon. Aero has Chris in a satellite armbar, but La Milicia rush in and break that up too. Piero calls for a DQ! Wow, you can be DQed for interference in AAA, who knew? Super Fly gets Octagon's mask again.

Charly Manson chats with someone on the phone – Cibernético? They're talking about the main event, anyway.

Match 4: Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Amadeus, Charly Manson, Escoria
Gimnasio Agustin Milian, 01/27/2011

Winner: Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown
Match Time: 9:20
Rating: ok
Notes: Charly and Escoria are now doing the dance on the way to the ring. Amadeus doesn’t dance? Huh. Monster Clown steals a small child. Lots of crowd shots, and then the Bizarros are beating up the Clowns before they’ve gotten to the ring.

Not only is Charly still wearing his Invasors pants, but Escoria appears to have recycled some red La Secta gear. They may be bizarre, but they're also thrifty! Triple teams on the clowns to start. Arturo seems to rave over their team work. Charly and Escoria grab Murder by the head and run and slide thru the ropes to drop Murder on the middle rope, and Amadeus adds the sit. That was a hard set up. Break as the beatdown goes on.

Murder Clown, confronted with a commercial break during a beatdown and a corner whip, has no choice but to start the comeback. Escoria charges in, but is thrown out of the ring. Chokes for Charly and Amadeus, but they dropkick free. Double dive – nope, other Clowns trip them up. Wheel kick and dropkick around. Murder Clown press Escoria on the outside, and Psycho dropkicks him off his shoulder. Beatdown goes the other way. Charly has a one man comeback, but gets leveled by a Monster clothesline. He takes the Murder flying sit for his trouble. Clowns peacefully go to their corner after that. Escoria and Monster are left in, with Monster being flipped to the apron on a corner charge. Escoria tries to springboard headscissors him, slips multiple times, and Monster sort of takes the bump on his own. Psycho throws himself out trying to boot Escoria, but blocks Escoria from his dive. Charly lays Psycho out with a tope of his own. That leaves Murder and Amadeus. Bad idea, Bizarros. Press slam. Murder goes to the apron, points up, and lands the huge flying elbow drop. One two three.

Zorro's music kicks in after the match. Charly asks Murder not to hit him while he tries to figure out what's going on. Zorro yells at the ring about losing his hair to Charly, and then apparently turns to leave. Charly gets the microphone to yell back. And that's it. Play the Bizarros music because they lost.

Konnan is happy to finally see Dorian – he still wants to know what happened with Dorian's “Friend” Cibernético turning on them. Dorian explains they just need it to give time – Parka and Cibernético's feud will drive Cibernético to their side. Konnan tells Dorian about Zorro's prophecy – it's not going to be him going down. Dorian shakes his head as Konnan leaves.

Match 5: Dr. Wagner Jr. & El Mesías vs Chessman & Zorro
Gimnasio Agustin Milian, 01/27/2011

Winner: Chessman & Zorro
Match Time: 11:29
Rating: usual
Notes: Staggered entrances. Zorro finds his fan section. Tirantes is ref. Konnan is out with the rudos. Mesías is not in his usual shape and is wearing long tights.

Crowd loud for Wagner, even after Zorro & Chessman punk the técnicos from the get go. More of a one-sided walking brawl. Mesías walked to the ring with a limp, and seems to be running the ropes with a limp. (Crowd is NOT chanting Mesías.) Mesías finally starts the comeback himself by putting Chessman out then clothesline Zorro. Both Wagner and Zorro do dives, though Mesías follows with a pescado and is limping. Tirantes takes the cane away from Wagner, so he can't use it on Zorro, so Wagner kicks Tirantes. Tirantes does not call the DQ. Técnicos screw around until the break.

Slow paced showcases. I'm not sure if the rudos get more offense in on Mesías, or if they just take so long with it that it seems like more. Crowd still chanting for Wagner. Mesías just doesn't look good. He takes care of Zorro with a backbreaker, but Chessman kills him dead with a simple kick to the head, and the fans finally get the Wagner they want. Wagner's sequence seems slow too. He and Chessman get lost on a backbreaker, and Chessman wins that battle by superkicking Wagner out on his head. Chessman pescados Wagner for good measure. Zorro and Mesías in, but Konnan walks in with a weapon to distract. Zorro tries to jump Mesías, but Mesías drops both guys with spinebuster. Konnan is punches and his bat flies across the ring. Mesías gets the bat, but Zorro superkicks him, one two three. That never actually gets a three. Oh well.

Charly Manson runs and punches Zorro a bit. Técnicos clothesline Zorro and Chessman out, then corner Konnan. Técnicos punch Konnan around, and Wagner and Charly make a wish with his leg. Charly is holding the Bizarro mask, not the iron mask. Charly is raises the arms of the técnicos and poses with the mask.

Wagner talks about defending AAA for the fifteen million time. Do something. Catchphrase.

Recap video and done.
