Recap: 04/23/10

short Abismo Negro tribute

Rey de Reyes history: Octagon, Cibernético, Abismo Negro, La Parka, Vampiro, Zorro and Electroshock are mentioned as former winners. And that' all there is for this segment.

Match 1: Marco Corleone vs Jack EvansOzzDecnnis in AAA's Rey de Reyes Tournament semifinal match
Plaza de Toros Santa Maria, Queretaro, 03/12/2010

Winner: Marco Corleone
Match Time: 7:57
Notes: Listed as Group 3. I don't know why they're showing them out of order or making it clear they're showing them out of order, but it doesn't matter. Entrances. Decnnis has his money man and escaped lunatic. Guapito has a teddy bear for reasons unclear. Decnnis has new music, denying me of my chance to sing along. Ozz has a CROWN. Who needs a sword. Skull mask too. Non-Decnnis entrances are clipped. Pepe Casas is ref.

Match gets off to a quite start with a horrible Ozz superkick that doesn't come within a foot of Marco, but still causes him to fall down. They couldn't have made this stick out any more on TV. Match improves from there, and tends to be two guys in with two guys waiting to jump in on the outside. Jack is the only one who makes a point of breaking up falls, which doesn't make any sense in elimination format. He was saving Marco both times, and then proceeded to attack Marco directly after, so it was just dumb.

Marco went on a punching spree, even getting Hilario and Guapito. Everyone decided to team up to take out Marco, which lasted for a good twenty seconds before they turned on each other. Still, Marco ended up worked over for a while and spent a lot bigger chunk of the match in the ring than you'd expect for the guy who still has one more to go. Jack got Ozz clean, while Jack was slowed from a top rope 630 senton by Hilario grabbing him. Jack knocked him away, but Decnnis had time to get his knees up by the time Jack jumped, and Decnnis immediately finished him off after. Announcers were quick to give credit to Hilario. Hilario also jumped in to help cover after Decnnis dropped Marco with a dropkick to the knee – Pepe Casa allowed this, and Guapito helping cover, but Marco shoved them all off. Marco took care of the help again, tossing Guapito out into to Hilario, fed his head for a Decnnis knee, but still finished off Decnnis with his alternate finish for the win.

Backstage, Alex is getting tossed thongs and being kissed again, but isn't so happy when one of the thongs turns out to be from Pimpi. He doesn't realize until after the kiss! This has nothing to do with anything.

Backstage, Marco is happy to final have a big opportunity. He's going to win.

Match 2: El Elegido vs HernandezCrazy BoyKenzo Suzuki in AAA's Rey de Reyes Tournament semifinal match
Plaza de Toros Santa Maria, Queretaro, 03/12/2010

Winner: Hernandez
Match Time: 7:56
Notes: Group 2! It's a countdown. I'm supposed to put an accent over A in Hernandez, I see. Probably should get around to it. Crazy Boy has backup dancers, no new Mexican Powers. Considering how many Mexican Powers turned on him, I think that's actually the better way to go. Hernandez has an entrance, but no one has any idea who he is, though the announcers do go over his background after the match starts. Elegido is still dancing when the whistle blows. Piero is ref.

Rudos jump at the outset, but it turns in to one on ones with the outside guys waiting for tags or such. Hernandez matches up with Crazy Boy so the LAX guy can throw the smaller guy around, and Elegido and Kenzo are just the other two guys. Break is so sudden, it seems to cut off Arturo in mid-word.

Elegido's trunks are pulled down, and held down, for a bit. This week, he's blurred. Hernandez is pretty dominant over Crazy Boy before finishing him with the Gringo Killer. Rudo double team fails with one slap, and Elegido gives Kenzo a bad DDT to almost immediately eliminate him. Surprising it wasn’t it, given the usual rapid fire eliminations. Kenzo drops Elegido with a good suplex, but is way too smiley about it for this to end well. Sure enough, the second one is reversed into a small package to eliminate Kenzo. Crowd approves. Elegido slowly runs into a corner boot, Hernandez pulls himself up to the top rope, Elegido joins him after some chops, Hernandez fights him off, shoves him off, and follows with a tope rope splash for the match.

Hilario is freaking out in the parking lot, but Guapito tells him to calm down, and help him reach in to this trash can. I have no idea why. Did he pull foot out of the garbage for Hilario to eat? I have no idea why we're seeing this.

Hernandez, with Dorian standing next by, says he's bringing back the sword to TNA. No good can come of that! Hernandez SHOOTS with us by talking about “Mark Jindrak”. Swearing! I have no idea why. Also, since he's talking about only him and Marco moving on so far, did they do these promos after they figured out the matches were going to air out of order on TV (and then why didn't they just re-label the groups?) or did they have to change the order because Hernandez gave away a finish of a match that didn't happen yet? Dorian offers translation, so I get to hear this promo twice. HOORAY.

Match 3: La Parka Jr. vs ZorroChessmanOctagón in AAA's Rey de Reyes Tournament semifinal match
Plaza de Toros Santa Maria, Queretaro, 03/12/2010

Winner: Chessman
Match Time: 7:44
Notes: Full entrances, more of them than shown either. Hijo de Tirantes is ref. Zorro has a lengthy conversation with whoever he's handing his rob off to, and I'm just mesmerized by it for whatever reason. Octagon is wearing his all red outfit. Break at the whistle.

Worked almost as a straight tag match. Rudo beatdown to help, with plenty of help form Tirantes, técnicos make their comeback about 3 minutes in, showcase from there. Chessman does a great job of feeding himself for Octagons' offense. Octagon gets his tope in. Just like Parka, his great really hides his waist size until they show a quick shot. Rudos are able to take a control again after Chessman superkicks Parka out o the picture, and Zorro finishes Octagon with the cane flurry. Tirantes fast counts as both rudos cover.

Zorro bumbles his way into a quick loss. Zorro starts to swing, so he’ll miss Parka, hit the cane with the ropes, and it’ll bounce back to hit him, but Parka moves way too soon and Zorro just stops swinging. Zorro tries plan B: He misses a corner charge to be rolled up. It's actually very casual. Chessman patiently sits in the corner and watches his friend being pinned.

Crowd loud for Parka. Chessman sets up all his offense Tough day for Chessman. Tirantes refuses to count for Parka, and eventually breaks up that pin. Not sure why he didn't do the same for the last. Parka gets multiple pins, just to make this point clear. Chessman ducks a short clothesline, lands an even shorter spear, and covers for the three count. Parka is immediately up and complaining as if he wasn't hurt, and I guess he wasn't. Announcers are running down the final as if this was the last match, so I guess they did commentary later. It's all weird to me. Parka chases Tirantes around.

In a sort of return of Noti AAA, Jesus talks to us from a studio (and a Mac book.) He sets up a clip from after the women’s trios– where the Legion brutally stomped down the técnicas as they were walking backstage. Rain has a broom, which is apparently a plot point. Técnicas are destroyed, dropped under a curtain, and the brooms are dropped on them. OK.

Jesus next takes us to LA Park's return. This is actually not as clipped up as last week, for whatever reason, though still is clipped up a bunch. This is followed by a calm LA Park promo about being the authentic Parka and thanking Dorian for the chance to prove it.

Video package of the title match, and of Electroshock being tearful about the win after the show while talking about the win. And that's the end of this recap segment.

In random pointless Alex Koslov segment #2 of the night, Koslov tries out “Miiiiiiiiiiiiiister Koslov” for the camera. Mr. Anderson watches from behind a curtain, sneaks up behind Alex, and asks him what he was doing. Alex is fearful. Exciting conversation takes place, as Mr. Anderson lets us know he has no idea who Alex Koslov is. Hooray AAA. Mr. Anderson finally does his bit, and this is over.

Chessman's turn to talk – he has no friends, nothing will stand in front of Chessman winning. I guess that’s why he didn’t save Zorro?

Match 4: Marco Corleone vs Hernandez and Chessman in AAA's Rey de Reyes Tournament final match
Plaza de Toros Santa Maria, Queretaro, 03/12/2010

Winner: Marco Corleone
Match Time: 9:09
Notes: I'm a bit alarmed that there's 34 minutes left in the show when entrances start. Stretch! Chessman is wearing a Roman centurion outfit because – there is no because. I have no idea why Hijo de Tirantes is wearing a black shirt and red pants to referee this match. It looks very much like he was told he wasn’t refereeing this match (wait for it) and so he changed into his street clothes but then they told him to go back out there. While Hijo de Tirantes is stripping off some of his clothes (he doesn’t even have suspenders on!), Joaquin Roldan walks out to replace him with Pepe Casas for this match. Security has to drag Tirantes away. Break.

Hernandez is introduced as being from Los Angeles. Because he's LAX, you see. This match was worked as three-way, with Hernandez and Chessman working together, turning on each other, working together, turning on each other, working together, and so on. Chessman break up a pin because he doesn't know the rules of this match. Hernandez held Marco up a long time for a suplex, and Marco got in his leapfrog run for a nearfall. After yet another break up, Chessman throws himself over the top rope on a charge, and Hernandez follows with a impressive running over the top rope plancha. Marco tops that with his own, only getting Chessman. Break.

Shortly after the break, just as Hernandez come is back in, Marco works him over with punches, sends him shoulder first in the corner, kicks the shoulder, and comes out of the corner with a springboard clothesline for a pin.

Crowd behind Marco, despite Chessman trying to rally them. Marco absorbs a chop and decks Chessman, but chessman kicks out at two. Punch blocked, chessman kick, and an uppercut slap. One two no. Hernandez is still at ringside, climbing up on the apron as the two left in the match exchange strikes. Corleone blocks and punches Chessman. Off the ropes, right in front of Hernandez, so Hernandez easily knees him in the back. Marco turns around to look, then turns around into a superkick. One two three.

Chessman is THRILLED, as if he just won the biggest title right there. Big celebration. Dorian comes to the ring to present Chessman with the sword. Chessman gives him a big hug. Chessman continues to celebrate with his sword. Break.
