AAA Mini Line - 03/07/09 (#875)
Recap: 03/25/09
Open: Dr. Morales complains about not getting paid, while Arturo retorts: “KONNAN! KONNAN!” Konnan is the answer to all.
Previously: Gran Apace was killed, dead. Konnan paid Nicho & Lider to kill the guys in the opening match – no wonder they're going broke! I bet Vampiro pawned the belt he took from Chessman, just to keep the lights on. Chessman added to the cost over runs by destroying some finisher.
Today: You won't believe it, but there's a promo with Konnan and Roldan.
Vignette: BUCKET HAT. Konnan rants, but both Zorro and I find Zorro's finger more interesting. Anyway, Zorro's not worried about the money problem, he'll take care of it. Arturo shows up to inform Konnan than Roldan is here. Like pretty much every week. Also, Arturo suddenly hates him. That surely wont' be a plot point. Arturo leaves, and Konnan redirects Zorro into taking care of X-Pac for the Legion tonight. Again, Zorro's more interested in the back of his hand than Konnan, though this time he goes more completely crazy.
Arena Note: Four sided ring, because of the small floor space. Barely any room on the sides of the ring.
Match 1: Mini Chessman © , Mini Histeria, Mini Psicosis II vs Mascara Divina, Octagoncito, Mini Charly Manson ©
Palenque de la Feria de Tlaxcala, 02/07/09
Winner: tecnicos
Match Time: 8:45 (6:44+2:01)
Notes:
Why is Mini Chessman dressing like a monk? Copetes is ref. Tecnicos showcase for the first couple minutes, rudo take over from there. Octagon looked good, Divina suffered from a big clip, and Manson barely got time before the beatdown started. Highlight off the beatdown is Octagon totally bailing on taking the press slam into upraised feet spot. Charly teased the comeback after a couple minutes, Histeria accidentally tossing him into a dropkick on the other two, but the rudo took back control with a tight spinning headscissors. He then promptly lost it with a blocked clothesline and a thrust kick, so I don't know what that was about. There's no comeback flurry, Charly just punches Histeria around, then battles back off interference from the outside. Back to one ones anyway. Divina/Histeria is not so good, flashy armdrag, and then there's an in match break.
Octagoncito looks good, despite one slip, and does a top flip moonsault onto Psicosis, Divina follows with a plancha onto Histeria, which seemed to hurt him more than his opponent. This leaves the former friends and current captains. Charly gives a super armdrag, a fireman's carry drop, and a springboard legdrop that mostly overshoots him. You'd think be enough, but Charly adds a Northern lights suplex to for the win – Copetes looks around and the crowd, and counts very slowly – one, two three. Per usual, Copetes is sad about counting down the rudo but does it anyway.
Rudos and tecnicos huddle in teams quick enough that another angle must be coming down, but there's actually time for replays before Hermandad and Konnan turn up. I appreciate the crowd shot of people looking bored. Three regular sized guys (well, two regular sized guy and one guy walking around) can beat up 3 minis who've already fought, good to know. This goes on a while so we can get lots of reaction shots from Joaquin Roldan, with his weekly front row seat. I thought AAA was selling lots of tickets, how come that one is always available to him? Octagoncito takes a flying stomp the head while being stuck headfirst in a chair for the big blow. The usual run of promos is broken up by Nicho deciding to do his in English (so they can make fun of everyone for no knowing English.) The point, such as there is one, is yelling at Joaquin and Marciela about how they can't take the company back for him mismanaging the money, because – they can't. Konnan gets too close and says too much, so Roldan throws a drink in his face. Konnan vows someone will turn on AAA later.
5 straight weeks of openers ending with people not in the match getting beat up!
Promo: the tecnico minis! So they're just here to talk about how evil Konnan and the Hermandad is and look goofy because they're taking instead of getting Octagoncito the urgent medical care he needs (as shown by him nearly passing out during this bit), but I believe this is the first promo time they've got since the minis tournament. Must've been short on time.
Recap: Billy Boy & Gran Apache – well, just everything since Billy Boy's rudo turn. The big angle in the Apaches/Morenos match looks even better in clips.
Match 2: Cinthia Moreno, Oriental, Billy Boy © vs Gran Apache (c), Fabi Apache, Mari Apache
Palenque de la Feria de Tlaxcala, 02/07/09
Winner: tecnicos via DQ
Match Time: 14:28 (4:56+6:45+2:47)
Notes: Piero is referee. Apaches wont' let the Morenos in the ring when they enter. Gran Apache jumps in the aisle (as much as it is) to confront Billy as he enters, but – well, I don't know, the camera showed Oriental, and then Billy was in the ring and getting double dropkicked by the women.
Billy gets out of the ring at the first opportunity, leaving the Morenos to take the punishment. Apaches play a game of 'catch Cinthia Moreno' – Mari almost loses, then Fabi drops her and Cinthia really is the loser. Fabi actually goes for a pin in the first moment, how odd. After Oriental's taken care of, Billy's finally stuck coming in, but before they can do more than hold him, the Apaches break it up with kicks and clotheslines. Billy does mostly yelling, but Fabi takes a double stomp from Cinthia. Mari gets hold in a bridging inverted facelock for dropkicks from the men. Billy crotches Gran Apache as he comes in and stomps him, pausing to stare angrily at the crowd. Break.
Oriental gives Apache a bottom rope moonsault, a middle rope moonsault, and a tope rope headstand splash, and his sister adds a top rope stomp. Back to Fabi, who's thrown around by her hair. Double headbutt by the Morenos, who stop to mock a Fabi chant (which of course starts it. Fabi's held for Billy to pat on the check. Fabi tries to fight back, so Billy shakes her head around a lot. Moreno hold her on her knees for a big kick to the chest from Billy. Rudos break out the electric tape – Fabi's tied up in one corner, Mari's worked over some more (including something by Oriental clipped out) before being dragged over by Fabi to taunt her. Rudos tie up Mari in another corner. Gran Apache returns from the dead, and with a chair, but Billy ducks it and kicks him down. Billy pounds Gran Apache, and the Morenos pull him off to stop him from killing the man. Billy shoves them for stomping him, and it looks like the rudos are going to fall apart for a second, but they all hug. Gran Apache actually makes a comeback off some badly timed chops, then slaps the Morenos down. Piero warns him that's more of a corner then the tape, I guess) and there's a sudden cut to a second break.
Back just in time to see Billy end Gran Apache's run with a solid chair shot to the head. Gran Apache is quickly bleeding and Billy works at the cut to make him bleed more. Gran Apache is worked over, and worked over, the Apache girls not around to help. Gran Apache take a double flapjack, though Billy actually moves the chair out of his way or his aim is really bad. Billy sit the chair on Grab Apache's head, and sits on top for the pin. One – why is Piero stalling? - two – more of a stall, and Piero comes to a sudden realization of all the illegality of the last ten minutes, I guess, because he stops counting, push Billy off the pin, and gives the match to Gran Apache.
Billy confronts Piero about that, but not for long – Fabi's broken lose and she's after him. The tussle, , Billy getting the better of it and throwing her out of the ring by her hair. Piero works at untying Mari Apache as the rudos stomp Gran Apache more. Rudos seem to be gone after the replays, but Gran Apache is too woozy to actually stand.
Promo: D-Mex (and RAW's chain metal fence!) I like how Alex speaks and Rocky speaks English. X-Pac gets bleeped taking about Zorro. Like the last promo, promo turns into a discussion about Konnan promising a turn.
Match 3: KENTA & Extreme Tiger vs Alex Koslov & Rocky Romero
Palenque de la Feria de Tlaxcala, 02/07/09
Winner: KENTA & Extreme Tiger
Match Time: 9:51 (4:05+5:46)
Other Match Notes:
Copetes is ref. Tiger and KENTA are rudos this week.
Not really much story points in this one; it's laid out to show off Alex & Rocky and does an okay job of doing that. KENTA and Tiger get their moments but are more here to show off the other guys. I really like the tope Rocky did here, turning to get more impact (and not go over the barrier with the small ringside room.)
Both Alex (crossface) & Rocky (anklelock) got submission on, but were distracted by Zorro walking out, counting his rosary beads. Zorro did no more than that, but it allowed the rudos to avoid tecnico charges and finish them off GTS on Rocky, guillotine double stomp on Alex. (Surprising Tiger could pull that off so quick when he needed to.) Stereo pins for the win.
After the first break, there's a oddly inserted Hermanad promo, re: Mesias.
Promo: La Parka starts in his promo, but he's got to stop and ask Silver King – who do you think is turning? Silver King thinks X-Pac – he's an international wrestler who' already had ties with the group. Parka isn't so sure, given what went down before, but they vow to protect each other.
Match 4: Nicho el Millionario, Joe Lider, Zorro © vs Silver King (c), X-Pac, La Parka Jr.
Palenque de la Feria de Tlaxcala, 02/07/09
Winner: Rudos
Match Time: 6:11 (1:40+4:31)
Other Match Notes: Zorro has quite the fireworks. X-Pac chases him out of the ring, and Zorro taunts him while backing away. Fight breaks out in the ring until then. Copetes is ref.
Rudos control off the early fight, Parka quickly makes a comeback, and Silver King and Parka chase Hermandad out of the ring, allowing X-Pac at Zorro. Before it can happen, Nicho & Lider are back in the ring, and Silver King and Parka are just wandering around on the outside, watching. Break.
Post break segment features an X-Pac comeback where he finally gets to beat up Zorro some, a Parka tope and a X-Pac top con giro. Nicho and Silver King get an extended stretch alone in the ring, Silver King picking up some near falls but Nicho crotching him on the top rope, pulling him off with a hanging DDT and pinning him with his feet on the ropes. That's clean for this group.
Alex Koslov and Rocky Romero sneak out an springboard dropkick Lider and Nicho out, then chase after Zorro for X-Pac. X-Pac gets away into the crowd, but is pulled back over and into the ring by the tecnicos. X-Pac's got the cane and sets up for a swing, but Silver King steals it away, clocks X-Pac, clocks Rock, and clocks Alex. It's a good thing X-Mex ran out, or Silver King would've have been able able to turn. Silver King presents the cane back to Zorro as Nicho salaams the new member of the group. Parka comes back in the ring, which is just the dumbest possible idea. He's immediately punched down and Silver King rips up his mask. Lider must've got his belt, because he puts it back on to wear during the beatdown. He's also got his light tube, because they break it on Parka's head. Konnan shows up to talk more, imagine that. Roldan is taunted, and Silver King is welcomed to the Legion.
Promo: back behind the chain fence, Parka loses his mind (hitting yourself with a chair isn't going to help, showing me you're gaping wound isn't going to help either.) X-Pac yells revenge at Zorro some – I guess he's not as broke up about Silver King as Parka is. Parka's totally in hysterics. ZOOM on the forehead scars.
Video package: Mesias, Chessman and that annoying Vampiro.
Match 5: Chessman vs Mesias
Palenque de la Feria de Tlaxcala, 02/07/09
Winner: DCO
Match Time: 11:15 (2:05+7:02+2:08)
Other Match Notes: Referee is Piero. Announcers talking more about Charly Manson than this match early on.
Chessman tries to start the match on the outside – might as well! - but Mesias chases him inside. Strangely, Chessman appears to have a plan in this match. He attacks Mesias' right ankle (though Mesias prefers to grab his shin) with dropkicks and chair shots. Piero and Chessman generously let Mesias stumble around on the outside for a while without either one following up. I guess it might be weird if Piero did it, but not really too weird. This goes on for long enough where I start to believe Mesias might actually sell this for the whole match, and not just give up on it after his first offense move. Naturally, he's fine at the point, spinning around like there's no problem. Big Spinning DDT gets two, big chairshot to Chessman gets almost no sold, with the speed Chessman has to get up to take a headscissors. Mesias remembers to hobble here, which just makes it funnier. Clothesline counters end up with a Chessman superkick. He's also perfectly fine after taking that chair shot. Commercial break.
Chessman opts not to hit Mesias with a chair and tries a kick instead, but he's caught, spun and dropkicked out. Mesias is back to hopping one one foot, but has enough to tope Chessman into the crowd. Piero is being very loud with his countout, as if wanting to draw extra attention to it for some reason. Meanwhile, Chessman and Mesias brawl over the barricaded and up a couple rows. This arena is a bowl, so they're immediately going up the stairs - and quickly counted out.
Not that it matters, as Chessman and Mesias fight their way to the top of the building, including the empty section running around the top of the arena. They end battling on an over hang over an entrance way. It's probably like a nine, ten feet drop to the floor from here (table set up in an odd place), but they tease falling as if it's going to be a gigantic drop for a bit, then go back on the safe side of the rail. Chessman tries to throw Mesias over, but Mesias grabs him and throws him off to the table. There's two tables set up, and Chessman goes thru one while bouncing off the other (so better than usual!) In the best move ever, the ringside doctor just happens to be right there to check on Chessman. Mesias poses while fans crowd around him.
Replays. Mesias makes his way to the ring, and stops to pose among the fans for the nice ending image, though he doesn't like it when they get a bit too grabby. Both angles they have of the ending spot aren't the best at actually showing Chessman go thru the table, but they do show the fall pretty well.
