Mexico Preview, Mascara Sagrada, Mesias

Previews of tonight’s Arena Mexico show: Notimex, ESTO, Ovaciones, SuperLuchas, Fuego en el Ring.

Did the big preview earlier this week. I’m not sure how this poll will turn out (especially since this is going up so late), but it seems like most people expect Bracito de Plata to lose his mask and Delta & Volador to win. I’m still leaning towards Polvora getting the win. Delta doesn’t seem much more ready than Angel de Oro was last year and, as much as the alternative wasn’t much good either, it would’ve been a bad idea to give Angel de Oro the big push last year.

I’ll have live results for this show and the AAA taping on the site later tonight.

For reasons only know to them, AAA put out a press release saying Mascara Sagrada has not definitely won the rights to his name and the matter is still in front of the judicial system. The previous told story goes that Antonio Pena long ago held a contest to come up with a name for a new luchador, and a kid won with the name “Mascara Sagrada”. After Sagrada had his falling out with AAA, AAA said he couldn’t use the name, but Sagrada pointed out the kid created the name and was actually the one with the rights to it. We’ve been told since that a court case went in Mascara Sagrada’s benefit and he’s been using it since. When both were in CMLL, Mascara Sagrada seemed to have no issue using that name, while LA Park had changed his. AAA had their own Mascara Sagrada for a while, but his name (and look) was suddenly changed to Mascara Divina in 2006, which was believed to be related to the court case. (And now he appears to be the AAA Alebrije, but that’s a digression.)

AAA makes a point of saying they also own the name to Mascara Sagrada Jr. – they did have a character under that name, who may have been/is the new Alebrije – and maybe they’re just getting this out there because Mascara Sagrada’s son wants to use that name. (Though no one knows, since Mascara Sagrada barely turns up on cards lately.) This probably still is in the judicial system – an appeal would be enough, the whole statement sounds written by a lawyer who could be saying it’s not over until every appeal gets turned down. My best guess is this is about Histeria/Psicosis/Latin Lover/Alebrije trying to use Mascara Sagrada as a precedent to getting control of their own names. Even if the cases are nothing a lot, it’s easy to say “if he gets to take his name, why not us?”

Perros del Mal held a press conference for tomorrow’s show in Tijuana. Seems like the CMLL Invaders are still working these shows, though the article spelled Histeria’s name “Mysterva”. Grond XXX vowed not lost his mask in his home town.

Fuego en el Ring says TripleMania could be the last major AAA show Mesias works (if he’s healthy; if he actually was hurt?), because there are rumors of him going to the WWE. There are rumors of Mesias going to WWE? (Well, I guess there are NOW.)

AAA running a spot show tomorrow in Puebla. Main event is listed as Dr. Wagner & Ultimo Gladiador vs Alan Stone & Mesias.  Mesias either falsely advertised to wrestle or falsely advertised to have surgery is not the top amusing thing. They held a press conference for the show with the Psycho Circus, who proclaimed their match would be for win 596. Or maybe it is for win 597. Or maybe it is for win 598! By the time this match happens, it may be for win 738.

A post on el marintete notes Vampiro has joined punk band Garigoles.

El Signo talks to Record about his retriment show tommorow.

6000 people watched an early AAA Kid’s Day show in Boca del Rio.

Juventud Guerrera’s Twitter account.

DJ Spectro looks back at La Parka in the 90s and the first TripleMania.

Rob looks back to 08/13/09 IWRG and 09/14/09 CMLL.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

FELIX (FRI) 05/07 San Luis High Schoool, San Luis, Arizona
1) Espantito vs Sparkito [? MINI]
2) Super Kendo, Super Muñeco, Super Rino vs Chicano Power, Enfermero, Perro Ruso
3) Espectro Jr., Pirata Morgan, Tornado Negro vs El Hijo de Rey Misterio, Rubi Gardenia, Super Porky

They’re setting this show up for 3,000 people. SUGGESTION: do not set return matches. It probably won’t work out well.

  1. You can smell the bullshit of any Mesias-to-WWE rumors way on the northern side of the Rio Grande. The man is so jacked, he’d BREAK their wellness tests.

  2. Yeah they’ll NEVER hire huge roided up goons to work in the WW… ah man I couldn’t keep a straight face. If they could make money on him they’d hire him quicker than you could say “Batista”

  3. WWE WELLNESS TESTS! *LMAO*

It’s always hilarious when Bryan mouths off about those wellness tests. The mere fact he believes they are legit clearly demonstrates why it’s a complete farce that Meltzer has made the guy his understudy. Or maybe he just plays ignorant to keep up good connections with the company.

I’ll explain the Wellness Policy very quickly and easily…

    1. If you make money, you can do what you want.

    2. If you make money but are getting out of control with your habits, you will get a warning.

    3. If you make money but are so out of control that Vince fears the bad publicity if you die, you get fired.

4A. If you don’t make money and aren’t heavily juicing, you can be fired at any time for any violation Vince chooses whether it’s true or not.

4B. If you don’t make money and are heavily juicing, Vince will pick you out at random and make a big deal out of firing you so he can get a memo out there showing the stockholders that the WWE takes the Wellness Policy seriously!

Nobody will sue Vince. They want to be able to have jobs and legend deals down the road.

    The End.

Deep down I think Bryan really knows this to be true but has to play ignorant.

As for Mesias, he’ll never make it to the WWE and if he does he’ll do absolutely nothing. It’s all an illusion. HE’S SHORT. VERY SHORT by WWE standards. He just looks huge compared to the rest of the AAA roster. Also, HE CAN’T TALK. If you can’t talk you have no hope of making it in Vinceland.

Either way if Mesias ever did go looking for a WWE job I’m sure “will he pass the wellness test” wouldn’t even be an issue. There are much more important things in Vinceland like:

    – his height
    – his promo ability
    – his age
    – his long hair
    – his moveset

Sorry if this made any WWE or AAA fans cry.

  4. How long you been holding that rant in Rob?

Mesias should just stay in Puerto Rico. He’s still the main focus of the promotion even though he’s not there.

    Any Live chat tonight?

  5. From a credible source or at least he has been over the years.

6/4 – Arena Mexico (Infierno del Ring)
    1. ?
    2. ??
    3. ???
    4. Los Guerreros del Atlantida (Atlantis/Rey Bucanero/Ultimo Guerrero) vs. Los Vipers (Histeria/Maniaco/Psicosis)
    5. Steel Cage Match where the loser gets shaved or unmasked – Participants: Hector Garza/Hijo del Fantasma/Mistico/La Sombra/Volador Jr./Felino

  6. Maniaco seems outta place in that trios match… why not Albreje?
That cage match kinda seems like another attempt at delivering a big match, but not having enough confidence in the 1-on-1 (Garza v Fantasma) to just do that match.

I dont get why CMLL would do a multiman cage gimmick as a big event main event, after (perhaps) doing a series of them around the horn with midcarders…

  7. Well Maniaco is a Viper while Albreje is not.

I’m kinda surprised Porky isn’t booked in the cage.

  8. @KrisZ: That sounds very believable, though there are going to be riots in the streets if (when) Felino loses his hair.

Infierno en el Ring is designated as the big cage match of the year. I’m thinking more and more that whatever comes of the midcard stuff, it won’t be a cage match.

  9. I’m sure there will be a couple of more names added to the cage match as there always is. Garza is my early favorite to lose his hair probably to Fantasma.

  10. @KrisZ: I Think it is similar to how the Mistico/Volador/Sombra/Felino match came down to Sombra v Felino, which was the rumored matchup for a stip match before the Volador/Mistico stuff got hot n heavy. I said that night that CMLL must not have had confidence in doing a straight up Sombra/Felino stip match. To me, the cage reeks of the same thing – either they have no confidence in Garza/Fantasma to draw a good house (which is probably correct) or something else is going on here that we don’t know about.
It certainly sucks if we see Garza lose his hair yet again though. He hasn’t won a stip match since he cheated to beat Pierroth back in ’06 has he?
