Ultimo Dragon defends his mask, Gronda vs Gronda, lineups

This should’ve posted last night. Sorry!

Toryumon Mexico (SAT) 08/22 Arena Mexico [EdR, PY]
1) Hiroka & Mima Shimoda b Ayumi Kurihara & Marcela
2) Mascarita Dorada b Pequeno Boricua, Pequeno Nitro, Pequeño Damian 666
3) Angelico b Brazo de Oro and Máximo and Skándalo and Azteca and Durango Kid and Azteca and Trueno
4) Solar I b Negro Navarro [SALVADOR AMERICAS]
5) Místico, Shocker, Tiger Mask IV b Arkangel de la Muerte, Atlantis, Último Guerrero
6) Último Dragón b Ohara [mask, hair]

Third match surely does not have the correct lineup. That’s Solar winning the title back. Arkangel replaced Bucanero; kinda surprising Arkangel wasn’t on the card to start with, becuase he always makes these DragonMania shows. Ohara ripped up Dragon’s mask but wasn’t able to take it.

Corrections from the Verano de Escandalo recap: Luchando Libre says Esther Moreno saved Fabi Apache from the evil foreign women, instead of joining in like I had. Also, his read of the pictures is the clowns are the same. Zombie/Monster Clown’s outfit looks the same for sure.

AAA does a good history piece explaining the Gronda vs Gronda angle. I like when they do this explaining thing, though I would like to never agian read an article which starts with a dictionary defintion or a wikipedia article. Anyway, I hope they explain this angle this clearly on TV, because those who just watch AAA casually may not even be aware there are two Grondas. Meanwhile, Cesar points out Gronda I has absolutely no business in the ring, seeing as he was told to stay out of it for a year after his health issues. Gronda I’s whole career appears to have been about not caring about his health, but AAA just sees him as a way to make some money and Gronda I sees the ame.

Cesar also previews Tuesday’s show and Friday’s Arena Mexico show (high on Maya/Caligula)

LuchaWorld has Robert on AAA 07/13/08 and KrisZ’s news report.

SuperLuchas #328 has a special section on Mistico winning the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title.

Box Y Lucha #2936 has Dr. Wagner and results from Verano de Escandalo.

El Hijo del Santo wrestled at a retirement community. They drew over 600 people, the article proclaims.

CMLL (SUN) 08/23 Cancha de Fut-Rap [El Manana]
1) Casandro, Intocable, Sangre Chicana Jr. vs Emo, Punker, Rock Steel
2) Histeria, Maniaco, Psicosis II vs Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, Hijo del Cien Caras, Máscara Año 2000 Jr. [cage]
3) Flash, Máximo, Mictlán vs Misterioso II, Shigeo Okumura, Virus
4) Naito, Último Guerrero, Yujiro vs Blue Panther, Shocker, Toscano

The only thing quicker than Usain Bolt is time the Bizarros spent in AAA. Wrestling on the undercard of a CMLL show with other Pena refugees surely means they were one and done in AAA.

IWRG (THU) 08/27 Arena Naucalpan
1) Fly Star vs Talisman Jr.
2) Carta Brava Jr. & Vampiro Metálico vs Miss Gaviota & Star Boy
3) Bushi, Chico Che, Freelance vs Avisman, Fantasma de la Ópera, Gringo Loco
4) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro vs Barba Roja, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr. [EdM Trios]
5) Scorpio Jr. & Villano III vs Head Hunter I & Sangre Chicana

Mascara Magica was the first Talisman Jr., over a decade ago. This is surely not him. There appears to have been an indy Talisman Jr. on the indies in ’05-’06, no idea if this is him. Talisman Sr. is better known as Hijo del Gladiator. If this is his son, it’d be odd for him not to be wrestling in CMLL, though plenty have used IWRG as a prelude to CMLL.

Champions have to be the strong favorites because they’re regulars and the Jr. Pirates seem to just have a couple month long runs here a year, but IWRG’s shown it has little problem giving titles to people who aren’t going to be back any time soon.

Main event is listed as a 25th anniversray celebration for Scorpio Jr. Luchawiki has his debut as August 30, 1985. Maybe they mean the start of the 25th year?

IWRG (SUN) 08/30 Arena Naucalpan
1) Espada de Plata vs Keshin Black
2) Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II vs Carta Brava Jr. & Vampiro Metálico
3) Freelance, Jack, Pendulo vs Avisman, Gringo Loco, Xibalba
4) Bushi, Chico Che, Suicida vs Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
5) Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Sangre Chicana, Sangre Chicana Jr. vs Bobby Lee Jr., Mano Negra, Pantera

This is Espada de Plata’s first appearance, outside the all trainee show. Surely they’re running some program on top, but I have no idea of what it is at the moment. Meanwhile, there’s no sign of the Super X/IWRG feud. Such is the way of IWRG.

CMLL (SUN) 08/30 Arena Coliseo
1) Bengala & Principe vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Metálico, Tony Rivera, Venom vs Bronco, Durango Kid, Méssala
3) Fabián el Gitano, Leono, Rey Cometa vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Nosferatu, Skándalo
4) La Máscara, Metro, Sagrado vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Hijo de Lizmark, Sangre Azteca
5) La Sombra, Shocker, Volador Jr. vs Atlantis, Black Warrior, Mr. Niebla

Venom debuts on the second match. No info on him yet. There was a Venom wrestling the opening match on IWRG last year, so perhaps it’s him. Good to see Rey Cometa making the tercera. Doesn’t seem like there are any big fueds going on here.

CMLL (SUN) 08/30 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Astaroth & Nube Roja vs Fraile de la Muerte & Titanio
2) Casanova & Hierro vs Asesino Negro & Leon Blanco
3) Flash & Stuka Jr. vs Misterioso II & Vangelis
4) Blue Panther, Héctor Garza, Toscano vs Averno, Terrible, Texano Jr.

Titanio appears to be another debut. One match to be added.

  1. Supposedly there was some hubub about anti-homosexual comments made towards Cassandro by someone with power, and Cassandro decided it wasn’t the type of place he’d like to work in

  2. Konnan most likely said it but than again it wouldn’t surprise me if someone in the Roldan camp said it as well. He not going to last long in CMLL unless………..

What is exactly this revolution thing AAA suppose to be doing?

  3. @Tim: Not in CMLL. Local promoter brought in CMLL guys for the top and the ex-AAA guys for the midcard.

  4. AAA’s site provides a link to the Gronda leg break incident. But my burning question is this: Why would AAA’s official website provide a YouTube link that is in horrible video quality, when they could have used their own archives to provide a good quality video?

    I have two theories:

    1. AAA is in fact contracting out their website to a fan who works on it in his basement

    or

    2. They were too lazy to upload their own video so they took the easy way out and provided a youtube link regardless of how bad the quality is.

    I’m leaning towards theory #1.

  5. @Anonymous:

I’m not sure I believe the “anti-homosexual” comment story, as there is an Executive in the promotion that is also homosexual. I think TNA sat back and re-watched the Cassandro/Petey Williams dark match and realized two things:

1.) The “Exoticos”/Gay gimmick would NEVER work in an American promotion.

2.) They released just how bad Cassandro is as a performer and in the ring, and saved themselves the embarrassment of actually putting him on their show.

  6. @CJK: No idea on the mystery woman. Was wondering that last night – maybe the AAA recap lost track of how many anonymous-to-their-audience woman were coming in at the same time?

Cassandro’s always been good when I’ve seen him. Wasn’t Goldust essentially an exotico act when he first got over? I know he started as a crazed movie star type thing, but it got modified over time.

  7. @Anonymous: Maybe? I had to Google to find out who that was, but her working against Rain in EAW and then being brought in with Rain here would make sense.

  8. @CJK: That’s a very sweaty looking faction.LOL!

Cassandro’s real good in the ring. He’d easily be one of the better performers in TNA. Why exactly wouldn’t the gimmick get over, when its been done numerous times over the years in the US. What with Adrian Street, Adrian Adonis, Goldust, etc. I am kind of curious as to why TNA brought him, came up with a name and he hasn’t shown up since, but I believe they’ve done this with other wrestlers as well.

@Daniel: Its a little bit of both. I’d assume they don’t want to put in their own videos because of the time it would take to do it and I would assume there are bandwidth issues due to video. I don’t know if they could just upload a video of their own onto the streaming service site they’re using or if it would cost more.

I totally agree with Cesar, Gronda I shouldn’t be anywhere near a ring. He’s a big liability and I would think AAA wouldn’t want to take any risks now. What money are they going to make in a Gronda I vs. Gronda II? Even if they made money, what if Gronda I gets hurt again or something worse happens? It could cost AAA more than they would have made. Sure, you could say that about other wrestlers, but Gronda I already has had numerous health scares and still doesn’t seem to get that his body, no matter how much he’d like to cosmetically change it, wasn’t made for wrestling. Common sense is rarely used in the world of lucha libre.:)

  9. yeah, totally agree on the cassandro thing, he’s a great worker, definetly one of the best around, gay gimmick or not!!!

  10. Has Gronda I wrestled anywhere regularly since his CMLL stint in 2005 ? If not, oof this is going to be a trainwreck waiting to happen.

  11. I’ve been looking at different pics on Jennifer Blake’s myspace and I think it is her.

  12. @Alfredo: They’re actually linking to the videos off YouTube; they could easily get a director’s account or whatever it’s called and set up their own video channel.

Those running the AAA site surely just don’t have easy access to video – I can’t imagine what Televisa or AAA has for archives, but I bet it’s not too pretty.

  13. @CJK: There’re so nice lookin’ women in that picture. It’s a shame we had to see Sasquatch-looking Konnan with them.

  14. @Daniel: I can verify #1 for you. The AAA webmaster actually contacted me saying AAA owns their footage from 2005 onwards but can’t get their hands on anything from 1992 – 2004 even though according to him they still own the copyright to those shows too. I’m sure he’s right but it’s still funny to read “we own the footage, we just don’t have it.”

Anyways, his idea was I should spend my free time upgrading all my equipment and then begin transfering my entire AAA collection to my computer, editing the videos myself making sure to include the new AAA logo, cut all the clips down to <10:00 so they can go on youtube, then uploading them to the AAA official youtube page and send the original super HQ files to the webmaster himself.

But I would be rewarded IMMENSELY! Not with cash or a private visit from Esther Moreno or even my own footage of all the dark matches AAA doesn't put on TV these days. No no! My reward would be…

A mention of my real name (RobViper3) on the AAA website.

Oh, and my other reward was a reminder once again that any video I'm uploading to youtube really belongs to AAA anyways.

It was a tempting offer but I was forced to turn it down and wonder why AAA would ask a random fan to do this type of work instead of just filing a lawsuit against the people who are stealing this lost footage from '92 – '05? If the footage is under your copyright, is that not a case for a lawsuit? Wouldn't you want the best quality footage instead of 2nd or 3rd gen footage from an ex-tape trader? Why would the Killer Clown become Murder Clown in an announcement on the AAA website 30 minutes before a major event?

So many questions, so many unimportant answers.

I bet Cubsfan stole the footage since he has a huge vendetta against AAA.com. He's not acreditado you know.

This is a good free plug for AAA though. If there is some super mark out there who thinks it'd be cool to see his name on the AAA website, all you have to do is convert random AAA footage from your collection into watchable quality youtube footage and allow AAA.com to take full credit.

  15. Oh no… does this mean the TNA Divas division stalkers are going to be around here too?:/

(goes to check LuchaWiki and wonders how many pictures of the random blonde are up by now)

  16. Would it’ve been better if I said I want to curl up beside a fire with Konnan and rest my head on his mat of manly fur while he tells me why he’s the greatest and everyone else sucks?

  17. I am no stalker. Hell, I couldn’t have told you who Jennifer Blake was until she worked for EAW.

  18. He would but he is too busy refreshing facebooks/myspaces/twitters of several female wrestlers.

  19. @thecubsfan: Has it finally gotten to the point where Meltzer can I.D. that random blonde bimbo but would have no idea who La Sombra was if we put his picture up beside Aero Star’s?
