CMLL (FRI) 07/22 Arena Mexico Results [O’Campo]
1) Neutron, Leono, StarMAN b Super Comando Jeque, Artillero, Flecha
2) Maximo, Metro, Virus b Sangre Azteca, Okumura, Taguchi
3) Tarzan Boy, Averno, Mephisto b Heavy Metal, Dos Caras Jr., Negro Casas
4) Universo 2000, Apolo Dantes, Mascara Magica b Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Hector Garza, Pierroth
Again, Pierroth didn’t get along with his teammates and again it cost him his match.
5) Atlantis b Dr. Wagner [NWA LH]
O’Campo says people cheered both, but booed Atlantis more. Atlantis dedicated this match to the kids, in attempt to help the situation.

In today’s Ovaciones, they confirmed the mask match is set. As far other anniversary matches, CMLL suggests Averno & Mephisto vs Negro Casas & Heavy Metal for the tag team titles, or something out of Pierroth/Perro/Universo.

The lesser big news out of Friday’s Arena Mexico show was the announcement about the G1 Tournament. The Leyenda de Azul tournament indeed was for the January G1 Tournament, so Lizmark gets one of the two Mexico spots. (Which means I was wrong, and it feels like they’re either making this up as they go, or just not telling us anything in advance so it seems like they’re making it up as they go.)

For the other spot, they’re doing a 16 person tournament over the next two weeks and a final (which makes this the 4th tournament CMLL has done this year already, but whatever). The names for this week are La Mascara, Virus, Maximo, Tigre Blanco, Tony Rivera, Sangre Azteca, Apocalipsis, and Loco Max, which makes you think it’s a junior tournament or something, but I’m figuring Dos Caras Jr. gets involved next week randomlly. For this week, they’ve got five matches on the card, so it wouldn’t surprise me if this randomlly turned into a cibernetico, even though it’s not listed that way now.

Third on the list is the quickie departure of Elektro and Lady Apache. There were problems between them and Brazo de Oro, who was once married to Lady Apache, and surely Elektro getting a bad reaction and being dropped on the card while Dark Angel seemed positioned as the top female of the group didn’t help things. They may end up back in AAA. I don’t think this is any big loss for CMLL.

They’re having another women’s match this week, but it’s quite shuffled around: Princesa Sujei makes her in-ring debut (she’s been in Hector’s corner since she showed up) teaming with Dark Angel to take on Amapola and La Nazi, making her (Mexico City?) official in-ring debut. I figure, if there’s money here, it’s in a Sujei/Angel feud, so it’s odd they’re on the same side. It’s kinda funny Sujei has probably moved from being the foil to Princesa Blanca’s to Dark Angel. Quite lateral.

AAA is running shows on 7/26 and 7/27, for ladies only, and they’re hyping exactly the guys you’d expect for a ladies show. Women who dig, say, Abismo Negro, might go home disappionted.

There’s more going on, but we’ll get to it in later in the day.
