Mexico results, next week’s lineups

CMLL (FRI) 07/10 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, ESTO, Ovaciones]
1) Metalico & Tigre BlancoCaligula & Messala
2) Dr. X, Hooligan, SkandaloAngel Azteca Jr., Angel de Oro, Astro Boy
3) Mascara Dorada, Maximo, ValienteMisterioso II, Shigeo Okumura, Virus
4) La MascaraEphesto [lightning]
5) Black Warrior, Naito, YujiroHector Garza, Sagrado, Toscano
6) Mistico, Shocker, Volador Jr.Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Ultimo Guerrero

Volador got Negro with a guillotine legdrop and Mistico got Niebla with La Mistica for win. ESTO points out, the last three weeks, the tecnicos (Volador & Mistico all 3 weeks, Shocker replacing Sombra this week) have a perfect record in the main event.

In the semimain, Naito fouled Garza, with Yujiro covering for the win.  Black Warrior revealed a previously unknown ability to translate Japanese and challenged Hector Garza to a hair match on behalf of – well, some say Yujiro, and Naito.  CMLL says Yujiro, so we’ll go with that. Anyway, all three rudos were cornering Garza before Toscano came back and made his own challenge to Black Warrior. Warrior told Garza not to trust Toscano, since he’s turned rudo before. Nothing was agreed to, but they’ll have a rematch next week.

Mascara beat Epehsto clean. The tercera was said to be the best match of the night, though no tease of a hair match in this one. There were a few comments about Astro Boy looking particularly good in his match. Vicky Palacios made an another appearance to give out calendars, again. Calendar’s in July are quite something.

Ovaciones also has a side note on Dos and Psicodelico in FCW, mentioning who they faced, but conventionally neglecting to mention how they fared. I guess Ovaciones loves WWE again?

While in Gomez Palacio, Ultimo Guerrero was honored for reaching 20 years in wrestling.

AAA notes Decnnis & Billy Boy back together as a team and discussed Tito Santana‘s background.

The Gladiatores talked to Juvi and Fuerza about their IWRG invasion.

People are working on a documentary and book about Solar.

LuchaWorld has Robert on CMLL 05/17/08,  C3 05/17/08, and AAA TV 05/19/08.

indy (SAT) 07/11 Gimnasio el Ranchero de Gomez Palacio [El Siglo de Torreon]
1) El Astro vs Camorra Jr.
2) Monarca & Rey Dragon vs Demonio Negro & Morbo
3) Principe Halcon Jr. & Rey Fobia vs Brillante & Halcon Suriano Jr.
4) Moro Jr. vs Cadete de la AtlantidaVikingoGalaxyZaracatan Jr.Super Punk [name]

The winner of the main event gets to be the new Diamante Negro. Dragon Rojo Jr. is going to be bummed out when he hears that.

CMLL (TUE) 07/14 Arena Mexico
1) Cholo & Ramstein vs Bengala & Trueno
2) Pequeno Nitro, Pequeno Violencia, Pequeno Warrior vs Bracito de Oro, Electrico, Fantasy
3) Angel Azteca Jr., Angel de Oro, Angel de Plata vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Shigeo Okumura, Vangelis
4) Atlantis, Felino, Negro Casas vs La Sombra, Stuka Jr., Volador Jr.
5) Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto vs Hector Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Mascara [CMLL TRIOS]

They did end up pulling a switch on the challengers for these trios titles. This one could go either way.

That’s Pequeno Nitro’s debut. In his Ras de Lona appearance, he struck me as more a kid instead of an actual mini, but I’m never good in figuring that out.

CMLL (FRI) 07/17 Arena Mexico
1) Puma King & Tiger Kid vs Molotov & Starman
2) Dr. X, Nosferatu, Skandalo vs Leono, Pegasso, Rey Cometa
3) Mascarita Dorada vs Pequeno Warrior [lightning]
4) Mascara Dorada, Metro, Sagrado vs Euforia, Misterioso II, Virus
5) Black Warrior, Naito, Yujiro vs Blue Panther, Maximo, Toscano
6) Hector Garza, Mistico, Shocker vs Averno, Terrible, Texano Jr.

Well, not so much a rematch in the semimain, though I guess this clinches they’re doing something with Toscano in here. Without La Mascara, the lightning match slips back down to third spot.

CMLL (SUN) 07/19 Arena Coliseo
1) Artillero & Super Comando vs Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II
2) Bronco, Inquisidor, Polvora vs Horus, Metalico, Tigre Blanco
3) La Nazi, La Seductora, Princesa Blanca vs Estrella Magica, Lluvia, Sahori
4) Mascara Dorada, Mictlan, Valiente vs Heavy Metal, Lizmark Jr., Sangre Azteca
5) Hector Garza, Mistico, Toscano vs Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Edit: Location corrected.

No sign of either Shocker or UG, so either they’re being added later in a title match, or they’re just dropping that feud after this week.

  1. No mention of Tito’s WWF IC Title run or Strike Force. Santana & Martel were a pretty fun team. Very disappointing.

  2. Cesar REALLY pimped last night’s show as being something special so I’m looking forward to it on TV although I may just blow up if the Dorada/Valiente match that got so much praise ends up being left in the dead spot in exchange for the Mascara/Efesto match. Since it didn’t go two falls it might not make the cut but the Lightning Match was shorter than last week’s…

“The winner of the main event gets to be the new Diamante Negro. Dragon Rojo Jr. is going to be bummed out when he hears that.”

Isn’t that just telling a guy he’ll never be anything? It’s not like CMLL will grab some new guy with potential and bring him in as a new Diamante Negro at any point in the near future.

CMLL.com has Fantasy instead of Bam Bam which works for me since Fantasy gets such few TV appearences as it is.

Looks like a really strong show on paper. Stuka Jr. seems to be receiving a push as his last two semi-mains were with guys he is normally facing but being mixed up with that rudo group is new for him and he’s teaming with legitimate main eventers. Good to see.

Title change? I’m gonna go with a yes. It might be a really busy couple of days for the Wiki and title change updates.

Another nice looking show! This is the first ever repeated Lightning Match, right? Perhaps this one can make TV unlike their original battle. Can you imagine how amazing Dorada will look with those rudos as bases? I smell an incredible spot upcoming! Segunda for FSE also looks great. Odd to see Euforia/Nosferatu split up instead of Skandalo just being elevated like you’d think they’d normally do.

You can pretty much forsee the angle CMLL is going to run here with the Japanese guys attacking Garza as he comes to the ring for his match or Garza coming out to save Toscano for a beatdown which leads directly into the main event guys running out. I really think they’re building to a Garza/Toscano vs No Limit double hair match for a July big show. Maybe Maximo/Okumura included? First three-on-three hair match in Arena Mexico in many years with Mexico vs Japan?

Sunday’s show looks pretty dull. Dorada getting in the TV spot rules but he’s opposite two of the worst wrestlers in the company so blah.

  3. @Alfredo: “No mention of Tito’s WWF IC Title run or Strike Force. Santana & Martel were a pretty fun team. Very disappointing.” They didn’t even mention when he did the gimmick El Matador in the early 90’s . :)

  4. CMLL advertising top 3 but they did that last week and aired four. Plus the intro was shortened so small chance tercera is airing…

  5. I putting lucha/wrestling aside today and just focus on UFC! Brock is going to make every wrestling fan proud tonight when he beats down on Mir! HERE COMES THE PAIN!!!

  6. Well then you’re definitely in the wrong place.:)

TV must be shortened today b/c they’re already starting the semi-main. On a typical show the first match is just nearing the end of the first fall right about now.

  7. Oh so clever! i think chuckled a lil. So no one is excited for Brock (fromer WWE champ, did put Eddie Guerrero over)beating down on Frank Mir?

  8. @czr87: You’re in a Lucha Libre blog – who gives a fuck about UFC? Even if there are people here who do care they certainly don’t bring it up here unless I missed the post where Cubs announced he was covering it.

Bonus points for trying to “win us over” by pointing out Lesnar put over a wrestler of Hispanic descent. That was very lame.

  9. How can last night show said to be “special” when it seems the crowd is seating on their hands?

The only noteworthy thing is Isela being back, but she’s lost “it” by becoming a fitness freak. Meh.

  10. Lesnar put Guerrero over when it took a ref bump, foreign object used, and Goldberg running in?

  11. @xuisaw: Yeah… I usually like reading Cesar’s reviews and his comments are really good but I pointed out to Cubs last week that Cesar might be showing way too much bias recently. Last week he said something ridiculous…

“Despúes de tres entradas de poco más de 9 mil personas se mantiene una audiencia entre 6 mil y 7 mil aficionados, el doble del que se venia registrando en los dos primeros bimestres del año manteniendose asi una cifra estable que crece paulatinamente.”

If attendance went down by more than 2,000 people in one week – what does that have anything to do with how much fans were coming earlier in the year?

In his review of last night’s show he says every match was really good but what has aired so far has been AWFUL and the crowd indeed appears to be sleeping. I wonder if he was just happy that his favorite edecan came back…

  12. And just as I posted that – Sagrado blew a spot as badly as some of his worst stuff from 2003…

  13. @Calabcd44: Not even sure what he was trying to do but he got tangled in the ropes and fell outside the ring. It was pretty embarassing.

(And that spot is curiously missing from Cesar’s PBP…)

  14. And Garza just fell on his ass trying a 360… also missing from Cesar’s PBP.

I don’t mean to be tearing Cesar’s review apart but he made it sound like an amazing show with all great matches and this is embarassing…

  15. Awesome – it’s just like the days of 2004 when you wait for Momentos to save the show!

The trivia question of the week is again using LuchaWiki. There is no way ANYONE would know the answer to what name Misterioso II used in his debut if LuchaWiki didn’t exist for an easy check.

  16. Only reactions were for Garza and Toscano stripping…

Match was so bad it was almost funny. I guess Cesar and Super Luchas’s crew think that CMLL stars going “head to head” with the NJPW superstars make it for a great match, even if the common fan doesn’t get into the match because they are not “conocedores”.

  17. And they didn’t even air the post match angle… I guess it is because CMLL is real lucha and they don’t do those “Telenovelas” AAA copies from WWE.

Or, in a positive light, maybe they dropped any plans for a stip match with No Limit.

  18. Maybe they’ll change it to a strippers in a cage match with Toscano, Garza, Mictlan, Fabian, Leono, etc.

  19. The news might only get worse as I fear LLN may be burnt out. He didn’t cap Puebla or IWRG and usually FSE is up by now.:(

  20. @xuisaw: That’s what I get for writing 5 seconds after waking up…

    It should be:

    Utah Fried Chicken

    *L*

@Rob: He might be out on vacation, though.

I just saw the first fall of the main event, “the return of CMLL’s Style” probably means Shocker doing the same stuff with UG they were doing 5 years ago… I rather had seen Sombra and they could have come up with something new.

  21. LATV is #109 (09/06/08)

Lady Apache, Luna Mágica, Marcela b (scary bald) Amapola, Medussa, Princesa Sujei
Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Volador Jr. DQ Ephesto, Villano IV, Villano V

I’m sure I can look to find a pattern, but for the moment, I’m going with “there’s a big box of unmarked tapes, and they’re just pulling one out.”

  22. I’m no expert on fashion and style so what is Amapola going for with the short white hair look?

  23. “””4) Moro Jr. vs Cadete de la Atlantida, Vikingo, Galaxy, Zaracatan Jr., Super Punk [name]”””

I’m picking Cadete since he uses a Atlantis Mask so he could use a different gimmick, although the old Diamante Negro used the Zaracatan gimmick… so…

  24. I think Dragon Rojo Jr. is having seperation issues since he’s using the Diamante Negro mask on C3 right now.

  25. Maybe the future Diamante Negro II can go to CMLL and feud w/ Dragon Rojo Jr. to see who is the ” real” Diamante Negro.

  26. C3 semi-main was average. Nothing memorable. Next week’s show looks much better overall.

  27. @dave: Don’t forget boxing(box y lucha).

So, does wrestling or lucha belong on a sports network, or basic entertainment?

  28. A UFC PPV and some boxer died, this is going to be a bad week for the WON. I’m pretty close to giving up my sub because there’s been little actual news in it and the audio shows lately have been uninteresting (how about that horrible Jerry Lynn interview and Buff? UGH!). Where’s the Dr. Lucha show without Kurt Brown? No offense to Kurt, but the he doesn’t seem to care much about Lucha outside of wacky gimmicks.

  29. Man it’d be funny if No Limit did not know that Black Warrior was making Apuestas challenges and they go into the match not knowing their/his hair is on the line. I see a No Limit face turn if that happens :)

  30. @Rob: I was in the US and without internet for the weekend. Glad to hear that Cometa and Pegasso aired. I’ll have to try to catch the replay this Wednesday assuming it actually airs.

Anyone know if there was anything worth catching on IWRG today?
