(8:52 [1:28, 7:24], 1/2 DQ, ok, 01:53:35)

What happened:

here is an Oro highlight

Bestia was eliminated in the main event, then came back into hit Niebla Roja with a belt to break up his pin. He also almost hit Rush with the belt, thinking he was Angel de Oro coming in the ring.

Forastero replaced Shocker. Triton suffered a head/arm injury on a huracanrana late.

Thoughts:

This was an easily skippable show, no different than the Monday & Tuesdays shows often are. If you’re reading this to find out what you should go back and watch, you shouldn’t really go back and watch anything.

The main event didn’t have the intensity you’d expect out of the week leading into a big double hair match. Angel de Oro & Niebla Roja tried harder, but it never felt like a big deal. Terrible & La Bestia making a point of not reacting to Caristico’s handspring double back elbow was weird. Carístico was not really into this most of the way.

dives

Gilbert & Diamante was a plodding largely unimpressive match. They seemed to really struggle in the second fall finishing sequence. The rest of the match was the normal Diamante Azul moves at a slower pace than usual. It felt much longer than it was because of that slow pace, and because the crowd didn’t care about much of it. They got into reacting for the near falls and not much more. This would be a good feud to get away from but the finish suggests they want to do more.

The fourth match was probably just average on a normal day but had more life in the third fall than anything that happened earlier. Dragon Lee was fired up in the third fall and it brought the match to a higher level. Atlantis looked solid even if he doesn’t move an inch from the center of the ring most of the time, and the rudos were solid as opponents.

The tercera was about as good as it looked on paper, with the técnicos showing some offense but not at top speed because of what whom they were working against. Titan had the good sense to not try the tricky cradle with Bucanero, who would’ve struggled to go with it. Universo 2000 Jr. is not a noticeable improvement over Shocker.

The segunda had less energy than the usual CMLL midcard special. Rey Cometa seemed interested enough to break out a new Ghost look, but the speed and the level of the action weren’t much. And Cometa got pinned in the end, which is a lesson in not trying.

The opener was boring rather than actively bad in the first couple of falls. It found the expected level in the third fall, with mistimed bumps and Sangre Azteca either messing up his finish or choosing to do it wrong to harm Stigma. It was something to avoid either way.

  1. Normally I watch Friday shows, but after seeing the line-up, I passed. After reading this, it seems I was right. I’m beginning to dread what CMLL is about to become in the lead-up to the Anniversary show.
