These random trainee shows – with guys from Queretaro who almost never make video in this one – make me wish I was still finding a way to record AYM. Not that I want to pay $20/month for it, but not every show turns up on +LuchaTV.
On Konnan’s podcast, there’s a bit of info on the most recent AAA TV taping. I’m really interested in the TV situation but it never comes up. Konnan does mention he made a card, “and half of it was changed.” He explained the stuff with La Parka and his son as a way to build up sympathy for Hijo de La Parka, who may debut 1.5 to 2 years from now. Konnan versus Vampiro happening at TripleMania this year is said to be “50/50 at best”; Konnan mentions being in training for his own retirement tour so that doesn’t seem like the issue. Konnan was higher on the Kross match than most of us were on Twitter at the time. AroLucha this week is mentioned as Konnan working there “if/when they come back.”
Wrestling Observer Newsletter mentions two “top stars who’ve never worked Arena Mexico are debuting on 02/15.” I think I know who they are but I don’t have it confirmed, and it’s always a little bit of a question mark with CMLL until people are on a poster given the recent misadventures with Fenix & Penta. I don’t want to diminish the people because they fit as top stars, but “top stars and never in Arena Mexico” might accidentally inflate expectations that there are some big names based out of Mexico coming in and I don’t think that’s case. The CL4N are top stars in Mexico too.
Matches featuring Latigo & Tiago and Torito Negro from their OWE time are up on the promotion’s YouTube channel.
Heroes of Lucha Libre must still be trying to get someone to invest in their show concept because a video pitching the concept was uploaded on YouTube and tweeted out for some reason. I was view 2 on the video, that is my life. I did not see any clips of Dragon Lee or Mistico in it.
Today’s story of NJPW having trouble getting visas for Japanese wrestlers is reminiscent of the issues Lucha Underground had for Mexican wrestlers last year. It is also a reminder that, should Lucha Underground actually a go-ahead for a fifth season, expect a long time between when the season is announced and when it starts taping. They’re going to be trying to avoid the same timing issues. I also kind of wonder if this will play into whatever happens with AAA running in MSG, since getting LU visas for AAA wrestlers would make it a lot easier for AAA than AAA having to do that all by themselves.
Vampiro is advertised as signing autographs tonight in Tampico, which is probably part of promotion for the AAA TV taping in next door Ciudad Madero on Saturday.
02/09 The Crash in Tijuana

- Willie Mack (c) vs Austin Theory vs Barbaro Cavernario for The Crash Heavyweight Championship

Tuesday, The Crash put a poll on Facebook asking the fans who they’d like to see the Traumas face, Rebelion Amarilla or Lucha Brothers. Lucha Brothers won, and The Crash announced a match with Rebelion Amarillo and the Traumas. Don’t start a poll with wrestling fans unless you’re totally sure what the outcome is going to be.
The main event for the 02/16 Baja Stars USA show in San Diego had been Psycho Clown vs Pagano vs Mortiz. It is now Bandido & Flamita vs Puma King & Mortiz. Bandido & Flamita were previously in a three way with Xtreme Tiger, who is out with an injury. No idea on the story with the AAA guys; no other booking has turned up quite yet.

10) Niebla Roja © vs Luciferno [CMLL LH]
5th defense
Tournaments, CMLL tournaments especially, tend not to be good in lucha libre. On the other hand, most Puebla cards tend not to be interesting, andt his tournament is weridly interesting. I don’t think there’s an obvious favorite, though it seems like a bad idea to bet against Stigma in an imporatn match in Arena Puebla. We just have no idea if it’s important.
If Niebla Roja is in the first block of the Universal tournament, he’s retaining here. If he’s not, things are going to get interesting.
Siki Osama Jr. is a name not seen here since the TVC Deportes days. He was a regular from at least 2000-2014 (and maybe before, Puebla records aren’t close to complete.) He’s been working indies since; I think he might have been involved with promoting the La Liga de la Jusitica shows, though I may be getting that confused with a different group. His father was a wrestler and later referee as Siki Osama; this name predates any other Osamas you may be thinking of. He was good and tall when there was an entertaining batch of locals on these shows, but I haven’t seen any of his matches in a long time.
CMLL (TUE) 01/29/2019 Arena México
1) Bengala & Sonic vs Apocalipsis & Cholo
2) La Guerrera, Mystique, Sanely vs La Seductora, Metálica, Tiffany
3) Súper Astro Jr. vs El Coyote [lightning]
4) Fuego, Rey Cometa, Tritón vs Kawato San, Misterioso Jr., Sagrado
5) Blue Panther, Soberano Jr., Titán vs Hechicero, Rey Bucanero, Shocker
6) Ángel de Oro, Kráneo, Volcano vs Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón
Super Astro versus Coyote is a fresh lightning match. Other matches seem fine. I’d find something else to do with my time if I was traveling to Mexico City though.
FILLM (SAT) 02/02/2019 Arena San Juan Pantitlan, Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl, Estado de México
1) Deirus & Pumita De Oro vs Devil Boy & Shere Khan
2) Candy Swing & Felina Metálica vs Lady Cat & Quiemra
3) Atomic Star & Baby Star vs Rey Abadón & Toro
4) Fly Warrior & Gran Guerrero vs Fly Star & Mr. Águila
5) Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón vs Alas de Oro, Alas De Plata, Diamante
6) Romano García & Satánico vs Hijo del Fishman & Wotan
Not sure if FILLM should pass the imaginary line of lineups mentioned in the news updated but Satanico is here and my db is still confused about the Coacalco Forastero and the NGD one.
