What happened:

Dinastia and Suicide

The main event was made no disqualification. Juventud Guerrera interfered freely and pulled out Copetes at one point to stop a count. Copetes and Hijo del Tirantes (both seemingly rudo referees) later got into a fight, with Tirantes & Guerrera taking out Copetes to stop him from counting further. Fantamsa then Psycho using Jarrett’s guitar, and unmasked him after.

Golden Magic was the surprise partner of Texano & Rey Escorpión, which appeared to be a surprise to everyone. His rudo partners wanted nothing to do with him, shoved him around after he got in offense, eventually gave up the win to beat him up and unmask him.

Prior to the fourth match, a vignette showing Máximo hanging out with Pimpi and Mamba. La Mascara was upset with Maximo over their results. Mascara was again upset after a Maximo friendly fire kiss led to the loss here, but he and Maximo made peace for now. Jack Evans made his return to the promotion as the surprise rudo, wearing an ELITE shirt.

Shani has a minotaur problem

Faby Apache tried attacking Shani after taking the loss. Shani fought her off until Taurus appeared and speared her. Apache took Shani’s mask.

In a midshow in-ring promo, MAD (Konnan, Juventud Guerrera, Jeff Jarrett) riled up the crowd until La Parka interrupted. Dr. Wagner was brought up by MAD but also mocked for quitting. Parka challenged Konnan to a fight, which led to Jarrett & Guerrea and Hijo del Tirantes attacking with Konnan really never touching him. The OGTs ran off MAD, and explain they’re there to defend AAA and the people. This really didn’t have to do with anything the rest of the show.

In a later promo (with lots of video issues), Jeff Jarrett challenged Vampiro to a hair match. This also didn’t go anywhere. The one Vampiro on the show was an inset interview where he was interrupted by a mystery phone call, and said someone was coming to avenge him. This wasn’t explained on this show.

Thoughts:

staring Jack Evans as confused onlooker

Main event felt long in the way AAA main events brawls usually can be. Jarrett did more than I thought when I watched it, but he was really a background figure to Fantasma. Fantasma really came off a star in the finish, humiliating Psycho Clown at the end. Juventud was a lot of help as a Jarrett standing in at times, but the feuding referee thing didn’t make much sense. This is worth seeing for the finish and not a lot more.

The semimain was too weird for me. The subplot of Golden Magic’s teammates not wanting him on their team and giving up the match to attack him made the whole thing feel pointless. A quick match is preferable if the match outcome is going to be irrelevant. Texano & Escorpión are a good rudo team, and the OGT are good rudos, but both of them being rudos made this an odd fit. OGT are going to need to change something up if they’re going to be feuding with MAD.

this is still very impressive

I watched the fourth match twice and somehow neglected to write down a review either time. I recall this as being significantly better than the other Mascara/Maximo of late, because the other four were working hard and didn’t allow them to fall back into their CMLL B-level material. Jack seemed motivated in his return, and Aerostar had lot of wacky idea to try out with all the rudos. There was a lot of chaos in this match, but the end came across well.

The Apache/Shani match was challenged by the previous two matches being pretty good. It was still enjoyable action, with some new Suicide/Dinastia sequences. They’re trying to make Shani a threat by actually giving her a win and fighting off Apache post-match. It feels a little too late, and their exchanges surprisingly more had charges than the Niño Hamburguesa ones. Taurus’ spear on Shani looked brutal. Him accidentally hitting Faby for a near fall is going to get a big reaction at TripleMania, though their relationship still seems random.

Dragon Bane sault

The segunda was not far off from the opener. I have the different grades only because there were parts of this that weren’t as smooth, and even the announcers couldn’t make sense of the chair spot and slow count in the ending sequence. Copetes being a rudo referee when he was playing a tecnico referee later in the night didn’t make much sense. The rest was good. This was a strong performances for Poder del Norte as rudo opponents for upcoming flyers. Hijo del Vikingo continues to improve and felt ahead of Arkangel Divino in this match. He took bigger bumps and had more creative flying moves without Último Maldito around. (To be fair to Arkangel, AAA totally whiffed on showing one his last big spot.) Joe Lider tried hard and didn’t get in the way, though this was still an odd use for him.

The strong openers continue despite every changing group of people. The bigger challenge here was the not greatest camera work, which seemed to miss some moves. These continue to be fast paced matches with lots of action, just missing a little bit character work. I don’t blame them for it when AAA’s still figuring out who’s técnico or rudo from week to week. Dragon Bane is an elegant flyer, and it’s amazing he was getting no attention until now even with an IWRG stint. The Triton-like moonsault he pulled off was amazing. Starfire continues to impress, a little helped out by facing men here for bases, but still pulling of spectacular offense with whoever. Arez didn’t get as much showcase as other but was obviously helping keep the match together. Chik Tormenta always seems to have just OK matches when I see her, but she fit in well with the speed and the impact of this match, and took the Spanish Fly at the end well. Everyone did well and this is another one to check out.

shouldn’t have left those chairs there
