CMLL Arena México: 2016-04-26

Zeuxis wins!
Zeuxis wins!

Recapped: 04/26/2016

What happened: Mephisto defeated Mascara Dorada in a title match, and asked for another title match. Dorada agreed. Zeuxis won a 60th Anniversary cibernetico. The show went very long.

What was good: The main event turns into a fun Dorada exhibition in the third fall. The cibernetico had it’s moments, but was tedious at times.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s YouTube channel

Match 1: Aéreo & Stukita vs Mercurio & Pequeño Nitro
Arena México, 04/26/2016

  1. rudos
    • Pequeño Nitro powerbomb Aereo (6:54)
    • Mercurio powerbomb Stukita (7:18)
  2. tecnicos
    • Nudo Stukita on Pequeño Nitro (5:20)
    • Aereo arm trap half crab Mercurio (5:55)
  3. rudos
    • Pequeño Nitro cross armbreaker Aereo (4:10)
    • Mercurio package piledriver Stukita (4:50)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 18:03

Review: [ok] decent match that feels the same as every other minis match, despite having a couple of técnicos who aren’t as around as much. Stukita was the usual, but I don’t recall anything Aereo did himself was positive. I really liked the end of the first fall. Aereo seemed as if he was going to do a unconvincing headscisosors, but it turned out to be a very convincing Nitro powerbomb. I didn’t like the third fall finish, where it looked like they collapsed waiting for the submission call and Aereo might have hurt his arm.

Match 2: Leono & Sensei vs Akuma & Espíritu Negro
Arena México, 04/26/2016

  1. rudos
    • Espíritu Negro senton con giro Sensei (7:01)
    • Akuma powerbomb Leono (7:25)
  2. tecnicos
    • Leono springboard elbow drop Akuma (3:39)
    • Espíritu Negro kneebar Sensei (3:55)
  3. rudos
    • Espíritu Negro tapatia Sensei (2:04)
    • COR Leono (2:26)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 13:46

Review: [ok] this started out typically boring, but they actually started to do stuff later on and some of it looked good. The Akuma/Espiritu powerbomb looked strong and Espíritu did one of the two things I like, plus doing fake martial arts against Sensei is always a positive rudo move. Leono getting counted out on his own dive is bizarre and felt like they had to get out of the match quick – maybe a time cue, or maybe Sensei’s knee was acting up.

Match 3: Magnus ©, Oro Jr., Stigma vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Nitro ©, Sangre Azteca
Arena México, 04/26/2016

  1. técnicos
    • Stigma huracanrana Sangre Azteca (7:01)
    • Magnus senton con giro Arkangel (7:23)
  2. rudos
    • Arkangel middle rope elbow drop Stigma (6:15)
    • Nitro piledriver Oro (6:54)
  3. rudos
    • Nitro splash Magnus (3:28)
    • Arkangel over the shoulder backbreaker Oro Jr. (3:35)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 17:52

Review: [below average] Oro busting out a ringpost dive teased a much more interesting match than we got. The rudos took the life out of the match in fall two and never really gave it back. This was much too long of a match on a long show. There’s got to be a good matchup for Magnus, but CMLL seems dedicated to not finding it.

Match 4:LLuvia vs MarcelaPrincesa SugehitLa VaqueritaSkadiDalysZeuxisReyna IsisLa SeductoraLa Comandante in a cibernetico match

  1. Lluvia corner dropkick Isis (12:34)
  2. Comandante electric chair suplex Vaquerita (15:36)
  3. Princesa Sugehit casadora cradle Seductora (18:06)

  7. Dalys casita Princeas Sugehit. (23:57)
  8. Marcela tapatia Dalys (25:54)
  9. Zeuxis double knee smash Marcela (28:35)

Winner: Zeuxis
Match Time: 28:35
Notes: Silueta was listed in the lineup, but she’s still in Japan. Lluvia takes her place.

Review: [good] the mildest recommendation; they got to a good place by the end and there were good moments earlier. It still went way longer than it needed to and there were iffy moments. It was slow and sloppy at times (some bad headscissors early on and often involving Vaquerita), and the difference between most of the luchadoras and the final four was evident (and this wasn’t even the worst group.) Last couple of finishes looked like they were messed up; Dalys kicked out of the Michinoku Driver very late and Pompin seemed unclear if that was a three. He seemed to verbally ask Marcela if she was done for three on the finish finish, which was all sort of weird. Zeuxis just getting the win and no title program being set up about this was weird; it felt there was no purpose to this except all the women happened not be booked on the other shows so they might as well do something.

Match 5: Guerrero Maya Jr., Stuka Jr., Tritón vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Sagrado
Arena México, 04/26/2016

  1. rudos
    • Ephesto shoulderbreaker Stuka (3:46)
  2. técnicos
    • Stuka cradle counter Ephesto (2:48)
  3. rudos
    • Luciferno Hooligan Crash Maya (4:04)
    • Sagrado Buca Storm on Triton (4:04)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:38

Review: [ok] A competent professional match that probably would’ve been more enjoyable if not two hours into a overal long show. Sagrado meshed with the rudos to set up the técnicos and they worked a little bit of a Stuka/Ephesto issue, but the match otherwise didn’t stand out and it felt unnecessary at this point. There are undercard matches which would be my choice to have cut out first, but this just seemed like something delaying us from the main event.

Match 6: Máscara Dorada vs Mephisto
Arena México, 04/26/2016

  1. DQ Mephisto (1:47)
  2. Mephisto powerbomb (1:56)
  3. Mephisto Devil’s Wings (8:25)

Winner: Mephisto (2-1)
Match Time: 12:08

Mephisto requested a title match next week, and Dorada accepted.

Review: [good] Mascara Dorada – or at least the third fall – salvaged this show with crazy spots. This felt like a very long show, but Dorada jumping off the barricade to headscissors Mephisto felt like it was worth it. They mixed it up with Mephisto countering a few and not doing everything, and of course the surprise Mephisto won. Their previous match was better, but it was appreciated that they did experiment a bit more in this one. Hopefully they change it up again in their next match
