What happened: La Parka beat Texano cleanly in the main event. Cage & Mesias, new Trump buddies who were justifiably upset about that ludicrous result, destroyed Texano and gave him a martinete. A new Bengala debuts, though we’re supposed to be under the impression it’s the same Bengala and a new Ricky Marvin (who really is supposed to be part of a maybe named Averno/Chessman faction.) Venum and Apache have issues, but they didn’t go anywhere.
What was good: First two matches had some good moments. Main event was an angle and not a well done one.
Where can I watch it: It’s on AAA’s channel.
Texano Jr. to crow about his Heavyweight title win at Rey de Reyes, declaring himself the best. Mesias quickly interrupts, telling Texano Jr. he got a lucky shot at Rey de Reyes. Mesias calls the Mexican people trash, and Mesias is Puerto Rican – from the United States. Mesias has found a leader that also doesn’t think much of the Mexican people, Donald Trump. Mesias throws it to the Donald Trump speech claiming the Mexican immigrants were bring all their problems with them. Mesias says Texano is one of the good Mexicans, unlike everyone here, and he brought someone here to Texano make an intelligent decision – Brian Cage. Cage has his Trump shirt, of course. He and Mesias hug and pose with an American flag. Again, Mesias says the only good thing about Mexico is Texano, so he wants Texano to join them to fight La Parka and all the técnicos. Mesias is rude and demanding of an answer, while Texano looks at the crowd. They’re not liking this idea. Cage also demands a yes or no to joining. Mesias tells Texano to use his head. Texano says – he’ll tell them when he’s ready to tell them, and leaves. Cage & Mesias declare this a victory.
Match 1: Atomic Boy, Ludxor, Niño Hamburguesa, Venum vs El Apache, Mamba, Soul Rocker, Súper Fly
Gimnasio Olímpico Juan de la Barrera, Ciudad de México, Distrito Federal, 04/08/2016
Video: Lucha Libre AAA
Winner: tecnicos (Nino Hamburguesa splash on Soul Rocker)
Match Time: 6:08
Notes: Ludxor and Venum appear to have their own shirts now. Apache attacks Venum before the bell. Ludxor is limping almost immediately. There must’ve been an edited, because he seems fine at the start of the match, sees no action, and then has the limp next time we see him. He keeps going, though he’s obviously hampered and can’t even stand at times.
Review: [good] maybe generous grade? Finishes sway me a lot and the finishing sequence was really good, including Ludxor – who’s right leg hurt so much he couldn’t even stand up while Hamburguesa was doing his corner smash – does a Brillo Dorada anyway. Crazy man. They briefly references the Venom/Apache thing, something I had forgotten was a thing and may forgot by the next time they meet, but it’s nice at least they didn’t forget. The técnicos big spots didn’t go perfectly (the headscissors of the apron comes to mind), but they got a couple really good bursts of them and the stuff in between wasn’t awful. This was fine for an opener.
Match 2: Bengala, Drago, El Elegido vs Averno, Chessman, Ricky Marvin
Gimnasio Olímpico Juan de la Barrera, Ciudad de México, Distrito Federal, 04/08/2016
Video: Lucha Libre AAA
Winner: rudos (Ricky Marvin cradle back suplex Bengala)
Match Time: 8:00
Notes: The Bengala in the matchup graphic is the new Bengala. Eleigdo is wearing a batman mask over his normal mask. There’s roughly 100 cuts to women during his entrance. There’s no overt mention of the Bengala/Marvin deal. The new Bengala has no obvious identifying marks. Averno and Chessman hug Ricky Marvin, and it appears like Marvin is now meant to be a member of their group, though it’s not clear exactly what’s going on with them.
Review: [good] like the opener, nothing extraordinary but some good action. I feel like Ricky’s better as a rudo and he seemed to do well in this simple trios match. The bit of sliding or dropping people out of the ring onto chairs at least came off as different than usual. New Bengala seemed like a guy with a some experience and some skill. His diving headscissors to the floor almost didn’t work but his near fall huracanrana before the finish was neat. This came off in the recap as if the write out to the character, but it feels more on TV like the opposite. Bengala’s not going big places off a loss, but he seemed like he’s be sticking around. Elegido is still very slow and not much good, but tried and was kind of over.
Noti AAA
- Those medals again
- Pentagon Jr. won Rey de Reyes, and was confronted by La Familia Fronteriza
- Averno stops by to talk about the #1 tag team contenders match in Leon. He’s pretty sure they’ll beat whoever wins. It’s pointed out they never actually beat Angelico and Jack, but Averno says he’ll send them both back to the hospital. Averno’s asked about the deal with Ricky Marvin. Averno says he and Chessman are great, but with international star Ricky Marvin, they’re unstoppable. (Averno actually says “imparables”, which might be the name of the group.)
- AAA social media plugs mention a new website is coming soon. They’ve mentioned it during the show as well.
Match 3: Garza Jr., La Parka, Octagón Jr. vs Brian Cage, El Mesías, Texano Jr.
Gimnasio Olímpico Juan de la Barrera, Ciudad de México, Distrito Federal, 04/08/2016
Video: RUDO VISION, Lucha Libre AAA
Winner: tecnicos (La Parka pin Texano)
Match Time: 6:17
Notes: Rudos attack the técnicos at the whistle. Mesias tries to scare Marisela Pena at ringside, who does not sell it at all and then throws a drink at him. Mesias and Texano disagree during the match, with Mesias trying to boss Texano around. Rudos mostly hold down the técnicos. Cage catches Garza on a dive and teases throwing him into the crowd on the Pena section – the people with Marisela lean in the way to block that from happening, though it appears to only be a tease. Parka randomly pins Texano cleanly while the rudos are destroying the técnicos (which may have taken two tries – they go right back to the pin after a kickout that looked odd.)
Mesias & Cage are beside themselves after the result. So am I. Mesias says Texano is one of the best luchadors in AAA, but he lost tonight and it’s their fault the team lost. Texano is trash, just like the rest of the Mexican trash there. Mesias says he’s got something great than a Mexican, he’s got American power. Cage attacks Texano and both beat up Texano. Mesias chokes Texano with the lasso. Cage hits Texano in the head with one of the few padded chairs in the building, which is nice of him. Texano rolls out, grabs something under the ring, they cut to the crowd, and Texano’s putting something back under the ring. Oh, look, he’s bleeding, what a surprise. Cage hits Texano in the head with a chair again. Mesias drops Texano with a martinete. Announcers argue about the hold – it’s not banned in the US, Zuniga notes. Texano is bloody and out of it as the rudos stomp him. The doctors return to call for the stretcher, though the rudos aren’t really letting up hitting Texano. Mesias and Cage rant to the camera as the medics get to Texano, then Mesias scares away the medics to hit Texano with the chair more. The medics finally get Texano away from the ring, while more medics are thrown at Mesias. (Marisela has to cover up to avoid being hit by them.) Texano’s shown taken all the way to the ambulance, with a very concerned woman in there with him as they pull away to end the show. Cage ends up with the lasso.
Review: [below average] not really a match, an angle. A good angle? Nah. This is pretty much as dumb as the Rey de Reyes final but I’m now not expected as much from them so I guess I’m not as upset. Parka pinning Texano cleanly when they’re clearly not going in that direction is self-harm. Octagon and Garza looking like non entities in this match is more self-harm; why even bother with those two. Texano was a passenger the whole way: he never rejects Mesias & Cage, never proves himself a loyal patriot who stands up to the foreign bullies. He loses, his teammates point out his losers, and he’s destroyed by them. I know – at least I think I know – this was meant to be part of a técnico turn, but they forgot the part where Texano does anything a técnico might do. He just was a chump.
