AAA on Televisa: 2016-02-13
taped Auditorio Bentio Juárez, Cuautitlán, Estado de México, 02/06/2016
Recapped: 02/13/2016

What happened: Blue Demon Jr. advanced to the Rey de Reyes final, thanks to Psycho Clown/Dr. Wagner issues. Daga & Taya earned a mixed tag title match. Pentagon Jr. wasn’t angry about his (so called) allies challenging for his titles, but he said he’d beat them. Daga also broke open Suicide’s head.

What was good: I liked the opener and the mixed tag.

Where can I watch it: It’s on my channel and AAA’s channel.

Previously: Suicide put Daga thru a table. Angelico gave up the tag titles. Averno & Chessman won them. Lider wants a title shot. Zorro, Cuerro and Daga and trios champions. Mesias and Texano are going to Rey de Reyes.

Taya and Daga (in a Taya t-shirt) walk to ring to start the show. Daga explains Fantasma has a back injury, so Daga will replace him as Taya’s partner tonight and they’ll become the next mixed tag champions. Pentagon interrupts to dispute that. Pentagon says they’re in the strongest faction, but he’s the champion and he’ll defeat anyone who comes after the championship. Pentagon Jr. says 2016 is the year is Pentagon Jr., and he’ll win Rey de Reyes too. Dr. Wagner walks out to take issue with that, though it takes him a while to get to saying he’s going to win Rey de Reyes. Pentagon and Daga get annoyed with his hand motions. Wagner moves onto hitting on Taya. Wagner hits his catchphrase, which leads into a Psycho Clown interruption. Psycho’s not so mad about his last match that he can’t still jump around like a crazy person. Psycho Clown wants a singles match with Dr. Wagner after Wagner turned on him at Guerra de Titanes. Wagner doesn’t get a chance to respond, because Daga and Pentagon attack both men as Psycho hits his own catchphrase. Security breaks it up. Wagner gets the microphone back to turn now down the challenge, because he’s got his Rey de Reyes group and he doesn’t respect Psycho Clown.

Match 1: Australian Suicide & Fireball vs Parka Negra & Súper Fly

Winner: tecnicos (DQ for interference Daga)
Match Time: 9:11
Notes: Suicide had Super Fly down and went for the finish, but Daga ran in and threw a chair at his head for the DQ. Daga choked out Suicide while the rudo stopped the tecnicos and held referee Copetes back. Daga pulled off Suicide’s mask, revealing significant bleeding from Suicide’s head off the chair shot.

Review: [good] not bad, but underwhelming compared to the Guerra de Titanes match. This felt like a slower pace. There’s a moment here where I thought they might actually be ending the match about 3 minutes in. That would’ve been a bigger disappointment, but these teams really clicked and it was missing the intensity of a feud. Fireball looked amazing at time, the cartwheel on the ropes was crazy, but also felt like this was a grade level beneath him. Parka Negra made the stacked up superplex worthwhile with his dance after. Good they used the Suicide blood as part of the angle, bad they had the blood in the first place.

Match 2: Daga & Taya vs Bengala & Faby Apache and Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Lady Shani for the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Number One Contenders Match

Faby Apache powerbomb Lady Shani (6:45)

Daga metaleon Bengala (10:39)

Winner: Daga & Taya
Match Time: 10:39
Notes: Taya has her Reina de Reinas championship. The rudo teams jump Bengala & Faby at the start and work together for a while, but then give it up and just fight among themselves. Bengala brings up a submission early, but no else does. After the first elimination, Faby caught Taya in her rolling armbar, Taya crawled towards the ropes, and Hijo del Tirantes put Taya’s foot on the ropes. It wasn’t clear if Faby saw it happen, but she definitely blamed Tirantes for it. Daga won clean.

Review: [good] Enjoyable match. There were some clunky parts early, especially a section which involved Bengala looking at people and waiting for them to do something, but the last half of this was really good. I think they even got more of the last two teams bit than either of the three ways from Guerra de Titanes. (Though, maybe cut out the three ways for a while now.) They gave the Pirata & Shani pair a little bit of offense so they didn’t come off as afterthoughts. I think Lady Shani’s finish might be a cross armbreaker – or they really wanted to set up that cross armbar reversed into a powerbomb spot. She and Faby did OK together, and we need the mythical AAA B-Show to get something like a lightning match between them. Faby and Taya had a big stare down before they fought at the end; it’s clear this is a big feud in their minds, but they crowd didn’t react that way. They made a good job of making the near falls seem like a big deal, though the crowd clearly thought this was a one fall match and was confused when it kept going.

Noti AAA

  • photos of the giant opening on Australian Suicide’s head, thanks to Daga’s chair toss

  • Taya says she can’t wait to face Pentagon and Sexy Star., billing as best vs best. This is weirdly edited and she doesn’t mention Daga. A shot of Sexy Star is shown, as if to reassure she’s still champ.

  • The four Rey de Reyes groups are shown, with a mystery man in group 4.

  • Mesias says he isn’t interested in La Sociedad, all he needs is himself. He wants his championship back. Mesias comes off as still a rudo here.

On YouTube/UTDN, the three way trios match is repeated (though joined after Fantasma’s appearance.)

Match 3: Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Blue Demon Jr.Garza Jr.Taurus in a AAA’s Rey de Reyes semifinal match
Auditorio Bentio Juárez, Cuautitlán, Estado de México, 02/06/2016

  • Taurus gutwrench piledriver Garza Jr. (4:56)

  • Dr. Wagner Michinoku Driver Taurus (5:54)

  • Blue Demon Jr. Devil’s Wings Dr. Wagner (9:45)

Winner: Blue Demon Jr.
Match Time: 9:45
Notes: Psycho Clown joins the announcers. He and Wagner have a faceoff after Wagner dos a dive near him. Wagner came out near Psycho Clown late, and surprised him with a chair shot to the head. Wagner brought Demon in and hit him with a chair in his back in full view of Hijo del Tirantes, but took his time before covering and only got two. The Wagner Driver also only got two. Psycho Clown came into argue, Tirantes cut him off, and Wagner hit Tirantes with a chair. Psycho got the hair and hit Wagner in the back and the font, and Demon added a Devil’s Wings. Copetes ran in to count three.

Review: [ok] Nothing match, just an angle with a couple of eliminations tacked onto the top. I think Garza realized what the deal was, got in his moonsault and got out, but Taurus was trying so hard. Taurus has a multitude of ways to fall out of the ring. Laughable but predictable how he was the only one of the three who bothered to catch the Garza moonsault to the outside. And so he got eliminated with a Wagner Driver. Crowd was less excited for Blue Demon & Dr. Wagner than you’d think, or at least some people would think. No reaction to the near falls either. It’s a little surprising Wagner allowed his move to be kicked out of when he was losing, but not surprising Demon to get in a move before the finish.
