Recapped: 10/16/2015
What happened: Rey Escorpion cheated Atlantis to set up a title match next week. Dark Angel won her final match in Arena Puebla.
What was good: The Dark Angel match, maybe? The minis match had moments.
Where can I watch it: it’s on CMLL’s channel, and edited versions of the matches aired on 52MX already.

Review: [good] energetic opener with no big flaws, just lacking more time to make something of it. The ending really caught me by surprise, and felt like they lopped three minutes off the end. Espiritu and Asturiano had a really nice exchange to start the match and were really good against each other later on; they need to give one of those guys a lightweight championship if only to provide a context for them to fight for a long time. Asturiano smoother than his partners; Astral especially has to wait an extra beat to get set or needs to slow things down to pull off his agile moves. It’s not embarrassingly slow, but it’s noticeable. Pierrothito occasionally telegraphs the moves he’s taking just to get in a better position for them. Espiritu is just a crazy man, so it doesn’t look like he knows what’s coming much less giving it away.

Review: [OK] One of those matches I was actively wondering why I was watching as it occurred. There was nothing technically wrong and there was enough good to get it up to OK, but it was a completely disposable time filler match. Tiger Rojo looked the best of the tecnicos, up until his unconvincing submission to end the second fall. Couldn’t tell what he was supposed to be doing even in slow motion. His tope kind of redeemed him. There’s no sing here Molotov is about to turn his rudo and lose his mask in a few weeks, and he looks better as a tecnico.
Match 3: Dark Angel vs Princesa Sugehit in a lightning match
Arena Puebla, 09/14/2015
Video: thecubsfan, VideosOficialesCMLL
Winner: Dark Angel (reina)
Match Time: 9:26
Notes: Dark Angel’s final match in Arena Puebla. Dark Angel is given a flower in a glass case as a gift after the match ad seems touched by the gesture.
Review: [good] They did a lot more on the Anniversary show, but it’s the better experience in some ways. ) Crowd wasn’t reacting big to the spots in the match in this one either, but the Porra Fresa was at least making loud non-whistling noise and so it didn’t feel as much depressing to watch. The crowd does understand better than Sugehit is supposed to be the ruda, but it’s still weird when Dark Angel goes for the mask pull. It’s a different match because they don’t have as much time and they cut out the dives, but there are sequences which feel familiar. It’s also alike the match a few days later because it doesn’t really have much of a story – they just do moves, until they stop doing moves. And stop in time – both for the crowd’s patience, and the ref would’ve called the draw in a match where no one cared how long they went. This is not an extraordinary match, but it’s the preferable one to watch over the Anniversary show.
Match 4: Blue Panther, Rey Cometa, Stigma vs Misterioso Jr., Pierroth, Sagrado

- Rey Cometa inside cradle Pierroth (1:35)

- Pierroth senton Blue Panther (3:22)

- DQ Pierroth [foul to Stigma] (4:15)
Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 9:12
Review: [ok] Typical Boricuas match. No one’s dumber than these rudos (which is a good thing, it gives them some sort of identity in a very similar promotion), but the match dragged a bit after the energetic quick surprise ending to the first fall. Not a good match for Stigma, being slow at times, even his oversell was kind of annoying. Rey Cometa looked like a star while having a relatively easy match for him. Blue Panther was around. Finish was a disqualification for no particular reason, my least favorite kind of disqualification.
Match 5: Ángel de Oro, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Hechicero, Pólvora
Arena Puebla, 09/14/2015
Video: thecubsfan, VideosOficialesCMLL
- tecnicos
- Angel de Oro mecedora Pólvora (5:59)
- rudos
- Hechicero reverse monkey flip/Dragon Rojo kick Valiente (3:14)
- rudos
- Pólvora Super Pólvora Driver Angel de Oro (3:56)
- Dragon Rojo Jr. double stomp Stuka (5:11)
Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 14:24
Review: [ok] an ordinary midcard match. I guess this was on the road to Pólvora/Angel de Oro but that rivalry didn’t stand out much in this match. They have one big facedown near the end and Pólvora gets the win, but it’s not the end of the match and it’s downplayed earlier Stuka & Dragon Rojo blowing a spot while JCR was talking about the perfectly applied move was fun. Dragon Rojo’s top rope double stomp looked good, which is a rarity.
Match 6: Atlantis, Mistico, Titán vs Rey Bucanero, Rey Escorpión, Terrible
Arena Puebla, 09/14/2015
Video: thecubsfan, VideosOficialesCMLL
- rudos
- Rey Bucanero cradle Titan (3:51)
- Terrible giant swing, Rey Bucanero dropkick (4:16)
- tecnicos
- Titan torito into a huracanrana Terrible (2:19)
- Mistico huracanrna Rey Bucanero (2:19)
- rudos
- Rey Escorpion mask pull Atlantis (4:37)
Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:12
Notes: Rey Escorpion attacks Atlantis with his chain before they get to the ring. Escorpion cheated to win and challenged Atlantis to a title match.
Review: [ok] basic feud building match, with the attention only on Atlantis/Escorpion early on, then the other tecnicos getting their moves in the third fall before going back to them. Seemed shorter than it actually was, because there just wasn’t much to this. Rey Escorpion & Atlantis didn’t really do all that much, and the other guys were beside the point. Titan & Terrible have had chemistry in other matches, but not so much here. The huracanrana at the end of the second fall seemed so slow.
